I thoroughly enjoyed this latest installment in the Tracey Crosswhite series. Crosswhite is struggling with the idea of having a baby and possibly not coming back to the force, while also investigating a missing person's case. Her partners, Del and Faz are investigating the murder of an activist, and there is also a new comer to the A-team. The stories all wove together beautifully, and made for a fast-paced novel that delved into the idea of arranged marriages in the Indian culture, and how that relates to some American-born women in this day and age, drugs, murder, and Faz faces some personal issues at home. Fans of the Crosswhite series will not be disappointed. Dugoni has once again done an excellent job.

As always, Robert Dugoni never disappoints. The latest in the Tracy Crosswhite series combines several storylines into one fast-paced novel. Tracy has just become pregnant, an Indian-American college student has disappeared, and her colleagues Del and Faz are dealing with a shooting that involves a gang. I've become fond of all the characters in this series, and am always glad to read another adventure. You won't want to put this one down!

“A Steep Price” is Robert Dugoni’s sixth installment in his Tracy Crosswhite’s series, and number six is filled with more suspense than any of the others in this series because of the added dimension of two pressing cases that have the whole A team in action. Tracy Crosswhite finds herself waiting for a verdict in an ongoing trial when a community activist is gunned down in cold blood, so it is up to her teammates Vic Fazzio and Del Castigliano to investigate and find out who is responsible. While Tracy is awaiting a decision she is contacted by a colleague regarding a missing college student that puts her once again at odds with her superior, but she will not be dissuaded in finding out the truth. Robert Dugoni is a consummate storyteller who weaves an engaging story that pulls the reader in from beginning to end. I was given an advanced copy of this book, and all of the opinions expressed in this review are my own.

A Steep Price is Dugoni at his best, cinematic and informative on so many levels. Dugoni shows us how easily choices and desires can lead one astray from all that is good and right. His keen sense of story-telling allows us to see inside the lives of those most affected by the crimes Tracy Crosswaite and the rest of A-team must solve before its too late. Added to that are the problems of daily living and surviving that Tracy and the others face. I am already looking forward to the next book so I never have to say goodbye to my favorite police squad!

This is the sixth book in the Tracy Crosswhite series. I've read them all and love them!
Tracy is called in to help on a missing persons case. When she and the missing persons detective find the young woman's body Tracy and her partner Kins begin investigating the murder.
While Tracy & Kins work this murder, Del and Faz (another homicide team) work the murder of a young wife & mother who lived in a rough neighborhood. She was killed because she spoke out against illegal drugs.
The author does a great job with both stories and all the characters. Complicated, but not confusing.
I highly recommend this book and this series.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for an advance copy of A Steep Price, the sixth novel to feature Detective Tracy Crosswhite of the Seattle Major Crime Unit.

Detectives Fazzio and Castiglione or Faz and Del as they are known are called out to South Park to the shooting of Monique Rogers, a local activist fighting the gun and drug culture in the area while Tracy is asked for help by Katie Pryor of the Missing Persons Unit in locating Kavita Mukherjee.

I thoroughly enjoyed A Steep Price which is another great addition to an excellent series. It is exactly the kind of novel I like to read and it held my attention throughout as I read it in one sitting. There is a simple elegance and logic to the plotting which is balanced nicely with the characters' personal life and, quite frankly, nothing not to like.

Faz and Del share centre stage with Tracy in this novel as the action switches between them. Their cases quickly gather momentum as they rely on technology to find answers but it is their ability and experience to interpret this information that is the pleasure of the read. In the meantime Faz has troubles at home in some very moving scenes and Tracy is worried about the appearance of Detective Andrea Gonzalez and the chances of returning to work after her maternity leave. I love these "everyday" worries that intrude into the detectives' lives without being overly intrusive in terms of the investigation as they bring a humanity to what can be distressing investigations.

Faz and Del are wonderful creations. They have a great relationship with a cynical humour which makes me chortle, hard won experience and suspicious minds and yet they have an infectious zest for life and a dogged determination to get the job done to their satisfaction. Tracy and her partner Kins Rowe are more understated but equally dedicated and smart. What I really love about the characters is their strong friendship and loyalty. It shines through and seems very realistic.

A Steep Price is a very readable novel which I have no hesitation in recommending.

Our favorite detective, Tracy Crosswhite, gets called in to consult after a young woman disappears and she has a bad feeling that this isn't just a simple missing person's case. Her suspicions are confirmed when the body turns up in an abandoned well in an isolated area of the state park. The victim had been estranged from her family because she wanted to attend medical school instead of consenting to an arranged marriage. Solving this murder isn't Tracy's only challenge, she's also trying to keep her pregnancy a secret, at least for now, because it looks like her superior officer is already grooming her replacement.

Meanwhile, Tracy's colleage, "Faz" may possibly take the fall when his investigation into the murder of a local community activist takes a violent turn and leaves a valuable witness dead. There are two careers on the line and as more secrets are discovered, their jobs may not be the only things in jeopardy.

A Steep Price is the sixth book in Robert Dugoni's Tracy Crosswhite series. One of the things that I really enjoy is that all of his characters are incredibly relatable. They are also very consistent, but they do evolve and grow with their experiences. I love that they really are a team, almost like a family and work together well. Of course, there are disagreements but they always back each other up. Another thing that I really enjoy about this book and series is the amount of research that Dugoni puts into his writing. You can see it in the details he includes and this book was definitely not an exception! The book was action packed but really did a great job incorporating the relationships into the storyline without distracting from the action. All in all, this is an amazing series and A Steep Price definitely fits in with the rest of the series!

I'm a big fan of this series. It is similar to the Scarpetta series, before it went downhill. Great characters, mixed with interesting mysteries and strong relationships. This installment sees the team a bit more split and we focus on two separate cases.. I enjoyed the stories and the additional time given to Faz. Overall, a strong book. While I like to read them in order, it would stand fine on its own.

I have never read a Robert Dugoni's book before this, but I will say that it won't be my lat. A Steep Price, Robert Dungoni's newest book in the Tracy Crosswhite series, was very similar to other detective novels I have read in that most of the characters seem to play a little outside the rules. While this story type definitely makes things interesting, it isn't necessarily something new. However, what Robert Dugoni brought to this book is more dynamic than other "cookie cutter" detective novels. The characters seem to play their own agendas, but also feed off each other. I liked how there were multiple storylines involved in one book, and it wasn't one drawn out mystery to be solved. I think at times the book dove a little too much into their personnel lives, but for these long series, i understand where it comes from. Building the connection with all the characters is what gets the reader to continue reading book after book in the series. Overall I would recommend this book and I am intrigued to read the other books in this series!

Thanks to Thomas & Mercer and Robert Dugoni for providing me with an advanced reading copy.

Detective Tracy Crosswhite returns for her sixth outing when she’s tasked with finding out what happened to a missing person after her body is found in an old well. The victim had refused an arranged marriage, wanting to further her education instead. As a result, she was estranged from her family. It would also seem that her family may have had a motive to kill her. As Tracy tries to solve the murder, she also tries to conceal her pregnancy, worried it will effect her job and other’s perception of her ability to do it. Dugoni presents a fascinating mystery and an accurate portrayal of a woman trying to be both a mother and a cop

A Steep Price – Robert Dugoni

Detective Tracy Crosswhite and crew are back in this fabulous new novel by Robert Dugoni

Asked by a colleague to assist in the investigation of a missing young college student, Tracy Crosswhite is only too happy to help. As she begins her investigation, Tracy quickly gets a sense that this is not just a co-ed on sabbatical – but a very driven student who has seemingly disappeared, and enlists partner Kins’s help. Meanwhile, Tracy is hiding a secret of her own – she’s pregnant. While returning to the station, Tracy unexpectedly meets Andrea Gonzalez, a new detective hired by Captain Nolasco to act as the ‘fifth wheel’, and Tracy fears is meant to replace her.

At the same time, Detectives Vic Fazzio & Del Castligiano catch a homicide involving the shooting of a young advocate, Monique Rodgers, in the South Park area of Seattle. While on the scene, a young drug dealer, ‘Little Jimmy’ does a drive by and mimes shooting a gun at Faz – Faz was the detective responsible for the incarceration of his father years ago. Coincidence? Or related? Faz has also just received devastating news from the home front – his wife Vera has just been diagnosed with invasive breast cancer.

As these investigations continue, newly hired Andrea shoots an unarmed suspect, and Faz finds himself sidelined as stories don’t mesh, and he finds himself implicated in the shooting. Determined to continue investigating on his own, Faz finds more than he bargains for and disappears. Will his team get to him in time?
Nothing is at it seems, lives are on the line, and secrets are revealed, as both of these cases roll to stunning conclusions!

Another fabulous read by Robert Dugoni! I first discovered him, and the Tracy Crosswhite series last spring on a discounted book site. Liking what I read, I immediately bought the remaining books in the series, and was fortunate enough to receive this as an advanced reader copy. If you love mysteries and police procedural type books, the Tracy Crosswhite series is a must!!

This was another winner from the author. He did a good job of intertwining a number of different story lines. The person who was the killer was pretty predictable but did not take away from the fun of the book. A book I would recommend to all.
