When Felicity Monroe wakes from a nightmare to find a red rose and a note in her house, she knows that Boyd Sullivan, the Red Rose Killer, has her in his sights along with the other members of her K-9 training class. When she learns that two of her co-workers had been murdered during the overnight hours, and every one of the dogs in the facility has been turned loose, she doesn't have time to grieve the loss. She starts helping to gather as many of the dogs as she can, but is she safe anywhere on base?

Felicity's boss, Master Sergeant Westley James, has been a tough taskmaster, mostly to cover his attraction to the beautiful K-9 handler. When he learns of the danger she is in, he takes it up the chain of command and is stunned to be assigned, along with his K-9 Dakota, as her personal protection detail. As the attempts on her life mount, will he and Dakota be enough to keep her out of harm's way? And, is the Red Rose Killer really behind these attempts or is something else behind the danger that dogs her steps?

Terri Reed's books are ALWAYS worth the read, and Mission to Protect kept me engaged from start to finish. This is the first in the Military K-9 unit series, and the action barely gives the characters time for a breather. I look forward to reading the next one!

I have enjoyed reading Love Inspired Suspense for many years. More recently I am glad to have discovered the K-9 unit books from the same imprint. Mission to Protect, book one of four in the Military K-9 Unit Series, is action filled.

The main characters Felicity and Westly are so likable. Their faith is evident throughout their ordeals. The large cast of characters gave me a little trouble trying to keep up everyone. This may also be from not being familiar with the titles of those in the Air Force and most of the characters were addressed by their military titles. None of this stopped me from enjoying the story though. The ending doesn’t give a full resolution since this book is part of a series. I was happy with this book’s ending still.

Terri Reed has done it again. This book kept me reading until the very end, I couldn't even sleep till i finished it and will be looking for the rest of the series.

✦Review: MISSION TO PROTECT (Military K-9 Unit, Book 1) by Terri Reed https://wp.me/p3d0RZ-aG9

Genre: Romantic Suspense

This is book one in a 4-book series, each installment written by a different author. I enjoyed the mystery and suspense in this light romance. Although there was an aspect that was specific to Felicity, the underlying intrigue will follow the series. The story is set on an Air Force base. I liked that it wasn’t bogged down in acronyms and jargon that most wouldn’t understand, yet you knew where you were. Felicity and Westley were a nice couple who clung to their religious beliefs to get them through the tough times. I don’t normally read faith-based books, but it was not the central focus of the novel. I liked quick read and look forward to reading the next book.

This is book one in the Military K-9 Unit, so what a great place to start. This book is full of mystery, suspense, sparks, surprises, romance and more. If you like books to come to a complete ending, you will not be happy with this one, however if you can hang in there for the next book you will love it. This book ties up some loose ends but not all.

Staff Sergeant Felicity Monroe loves her job working with the K-9 unit, however her handsome boss, Master Sergeant Westley James, can certainly get on her nerves. When the Red Rose killer makes her a target, Westley must protect her at all cost.

I love the sparks that fly between Felicity and Westley, they both have things they need to work though, but their chemistry is great. I look forward to reading more in this series.

The first in a new series about Military K-9's, set at Canyon Air Force Base.

The Red Rose Killer from prison and breaks onto the secure Air Force base, letting all the dogs loose, and to leaving roses for his former basic training classmates. Felicity escapes death when she unknowingly switches shifts, and is missed when the killer comes after her.

Sergeant Westley James puts himself and his dog, Dakota, in charge of protecting Felicity. Wes has always been gruff and tough on Felicity, so she is surprised when he volunteers to keep her safe. Wes has always been aware of Felicity and tried to keep his distance from her because of the military's no fraternization policy.

Can Wes and Dakota help to keep Felicity safe before it's too late?

Felicity is still grieving her father's mysterious death, her father's friend is unofficially investigating, and strange things have been have been happening even before Red Rose escaped. Felicity is given a position as a military photographer in hopes that something will turn up in her pictures and to draw out the killer. Felicity was raised in a military family, she's smart and capable, but feels like she has to prove herself everyday as a woman in her father's shadow.

Wesley is an excellent dog trainer, he understands the work you have to put in before you can rely on a dog. He is good at his job and is committed to the Air Force. He struggles to trust, due to his rough growing up, but Felicity brings out the best in him, and draws out his softer side.

Suspenseful, with three ongoing mysteries throughout the book. There's a lot going on and it sets up the future books in the series well, I like how this book explores the discipline of the military K-9s. Felicity and Wes book are strong characters, who can come off like they have a chip on their shoulders, but they bring out the best in each other. A great start to a new K-9 series!

As a huge fan of Terri Reed's writing, I have been looking forward to reading this book. And it definitely didn't disappoint. It has the perfect mix of romance, suspense, and Christian faith-based elements. The story is intense, riveting, humorous, scary, and inspiring.
The K-9 stories have always had a special spot in my heart, and this story made me appreciate and respect them even more. The dogs play an important role in the story, and Dakota is a hero on his own rights.
Staff Sergeant Felicity Monroe and Master Sergeant Westley James are both strong, capable characters who have deep pain and sorrow in their hearts from their past. Both of them have struggled with their relationships with their parents, both of them have overcome obstacles and made a good life for themselves, lives where they are comfortable in, where they thrive and are successful. All this could come to an end if they would act upon the attraction they feel for each other.
I loved the frenemies to romance theme that was going on here. It gave the story a dash of a thrill, angst, and humor to see Felicity and Westley find a way over the walls they had built around themselves to protect their hearts, and thus their future lives in the air force.
The danger surrounding the base with the serial killer on the loose is constant, the intensity is high, and the attacks and crimes keep piling up, creating confusion and distraction. The series continues with the hunt for the serial killer, thus a little cliffhanger at the end, but the crimes in this story were satisfactorily solved.
A captivating and intriguing story that was easy to get lost in. The characters were alluring, their faith in God inspiring, their strength and willingness to serve was heartening, their connection to each other was true, honest and fervent. The scare and terror the killer created was a constant factor yet the military staff handled the cases with cool, calm, professionalism that was impossible not to admire.
I enjoyed the story immensely, looking forward to more in the series.

A Mission to Protect is part of the series in for those who read one of the previous books you’ll be excited to see that void the serial killer has escaped prison. He is a serious threat and several people are murdered within the first few chapters of the book. Felicity was in basic training with him and his on his list of people to kill. Felicity is a very relatable character. She has lost her father and is now The target of a serial killer. She is in the canine training program. She happens to be the youngest in the new with so she feels like her boss Wesley gives her a very hard time. She has a great balance of strength but also dealing with her grief that makes her very human and relatable. And still strong. Wesley is her boss at the canine training facility in the military. I really liked his character and how his feelings for her or revealed. And he explains to us why he’s treated her so totally because he was concerned that people will think he showed her favoritism because he was attracted to her. Their attraction is way more than physical. The author shares the character traits of each of them and one of the other is attracted to them. There are several secondary characters and I have suspected several of them of being involved. It has created for a very suspenseful story.

Sorry but I couldn't get into the book at all. I tried though, I'm so sorry for my ADD brain.

The Red Rose killer broke loose and set loose the units K-9's. Now it seems that he is going after those who he see has wronged him and Sargent Felicity is one of those people. Now its up to her boss Sargent Westly and K-9 Dakota to watch out for her safety.

I loved that this book had plenty of mystery and suspense. There was so much going on in this book to keep things interesting. I loved watching that connection between Westly and Felicity and although the attraction was obvious I loved that it didn't overpower the book. The romance in this book was subtle and it was clean to if you love a bit of romance that is clean then this book might be for you. I loved that there was plenty of things to follow and leave the readers some what guessing about what is going on. I loved the aspect of having a K-9 and how it worked out in this book I thought it was pretty interesting. Overall a really great book I enjoyed it.

This is the first story in a new series concerning a serial killer who is known as the Red Rose Killer, set at Canyon Air Force Base and concerning the Military K-9 Unit that trains and is based there. One of the trainers there is Felicity Monroe who is striving to cope with the recent untimely death of her father, nightmares and the lack of positive feedback she gets from her superior officer, Master Sergeant Westley James. When all the dogs in training are let loose and the two officers on duty that night are killed it becomes clear that an escaped ex-military, convicted serial killer is targeting other military personnel. Felicity is believed to be one of his targets as she is left a red rose - the killer’s calling card…..

Westley insists on being assigned to guard Felicity, along with the K-9 German Shepherd, Dakota. The reasons for Westley’s lack of positive feedback becomes clear as he struggles to resist his attraction to Felicity, especially as she feels the same! I hadn’t realised the problems this would cause for military personnel and I appreciated how the author helped make the situation, restrictions and procedures clear without dwelling on them.

This is a fast paced romantic suspense and murder mystery that I thoroughly enjoyed. The characters and setting are brought to life in the story, including the K-9 ones, especially Dakota. There are plenty of twists and turns in the story that kept me intrigued and I really can’t wait to read the other books in this superb series.

I requested and was lucky enough to be given a copy of this novel, via NetGalley, with no obligation. This is my honest review of the book after choosing to read it.

Thank you Net-Galley, Author and Harlequin for the chance to read this story. No form of payment was received and this is my thoughts and only my thoughts on this story.

This is a Love-Inspired Suspense book 1 in the Military K-9 Unite. Each book in this series is a continuation brought to you from another author, one book a month from April to December I believe. I believe this is the first book I have read by this author or it has been a long time since I have read her.

I loved the characters in this story. Felicity is a strong leading character whose life is so not going great, she is in the sights of a serial killer, she is grieving the death of her dad, having nightmares. She never gets any positive feedback from her boss. Westley is the other leading character, he is Alpha. He runs the K9 unit and he expects the best from his crew. He is also Felicity's supervisor. Yes, he harder on her then the others it seems.

This story gripped me from the get go and I didn't want to put it down. I loved the chemistry between the characters and I loved the dogs! I haven't read a military book in a long time that involved the K9 unit and I am glad I took this opportunity to do so at this time.

One of the mysteries in this story I did figure it out pretty early on. I can't wait to read the next book in the series to see what happens next.

Set at the fictional Canyon Air Force Base, the overarching mystery is a serial killer known as the Red Rose Killer. This is a series of books that will publish each month from April to December from different authors. Some I have read and others are unfamiliar to me, but I'm looking forward to each!

Reed, the author, describes main characters Felicity and Westley as "strong, honorable, and brave, but vulnerable enough to let down the walls around their hearts and fall in love." One thing I appreciated about this story is that the actions and concerns of these two characters seemed like something that could happen in real life. There were no larger-than-life muscles, male posturing, arrogance,  crazy shooting scenes with millions of bullets flying, movie-like seduction scenes, or scared-female-acting-irresponsibly scenes. Instead, I felt like I saw how two people would respond in intense and dangerous situations, with genuine feelings growing between them.

I rated this five stars - it's an excellent start to the series. The full review will publish in April at my review site: www.ReadingObsession.com

I love the stories about K-9s and their partners/handlers. Felicity's life is in upheaval. Her father recently passed away, her boss rarely gives her positive feedback, she is having nightmares, and there is a serial killer who has named her as a target. Westley is Felicity's superior. He runs the K-9 program for the army and expects the best of everyone under his command.

Westley may be a bit harder on Felicity than the others but that isn't because he doesn't like her. It is quite the opposite. He doesn't want anyone to realize he may just have a crush on a certain lady under his command. When her life is threatened, from multiple sources, he is determined to keep her safe. His problem may be keeping his heart from becoming involved. I really like how the two of them are concious of their positions but love will find a way. I did figure out who the bad guy was before the 'reveal' but I still enjoyed the story!

It was a 4/5 for me. I look forward to the next book and some answers to lingering questions!
