Unfortunately, this book wasn't for me. The plot and characters didn't keep me interested. I really wanted to like the book but just couldn't get into it.

I liked how the book included several magical creatures. For instance, elves, gnomes, dragons, and others could be found throughout its pages. The themes of destiny, transformation, discovery, and mentoring are portrayed fairly well here.

However, I did find that the secondary characters were forgettable with no distinguishable traits; the plot was choppy and jumped around quite a bit; the dragon transformation, though part of the title, doesn’t happen until about two-thirds into the book; and the uncommon and inventive names/words were frustrating and hard to keep track of (i.e. -names: Grok, Grchok, Gmar, Glik, etc.; inventive words: bozl, settage, mrowns, troglomp, etc.)

Perhaps those who don’t mind plot jumpiness and inventive language would enjoy this one, but I had difficulty in doing so.

Just finished reading "Becoming the Dragon". I love fantasy books and I really enjoyed this book. The story is about a teenage boy, Andy, who was struck by lightning. He ends up being transported into another world. There he discovers new abilities, first as a prisoner and then taken in by an elf and a dragon, who help him transform and develop his newfound abilities. Enjoyed the storyline and am interested to see where it goes in the next book. If you enjoy fantasy, give it a try. I think you'll like it!

Loved this fast paced and action packed book. It kept my 13 yo daughter entertained, which has become increasingly difficult. She is waiting for more, so that is a good sign. She had nothing but good things to say when she was done.

I didn't finish this. I couldn't get into the story something was missing but can't put my finger on it. It was not meant for me. Something for someone out there. Based on the reviews it ranged from 3 to 5 stars so someone out there is loving it!

Let’s get to the point first and ramblings second- this was an imaginative read. There are dragons, gryphons, Cheshire cats, and other fantasy creatures and beings. Andy gets caught in the middle of an experiment, transported to another world, and has to decide if he can live life as a dragon. This book was full of action, adventure, and turns I didn’t see coming. There are so many characters in the story that make it very unique. And honestly difficult to keep up with sometimes, but I enjoyed the read. Now for some ramblings...
I’d definitely describe this as a boy book. There were several references to his “sacred” place and “crotch” and his “fly growing”. And that’s all in the first bit of the book. The second thing that got me was how much the main character, Andy, speaks to himself. The author simply italicizes these in the middle of a paragraph and keeps going. There is a lot of internal dialogue so it’s jarring to keep moving back and forth. And finally, I’m in the US and the author is not. That makes for some slightly different habits and expressions... slightly awkward but not something to take away any ratings. Just worth mentioning.
Overall, not entirely suited for me personally, but still a unique read!

I feel awful when an author or publisher gives me a book for a review, and my review is unfavorable. But I guess you can't connect with every book.

Becoming the Dragon has one of the most creative narratives; a very well constructed setting and interesting characters. However, as I mentioned before, I couldn't connect with the book. It took me days to read the first couple of chapters, and lamentably, in the end, I wasn't even capable of doing it.

The book narrates the story of Andy, a teen who survived being hit by lightning when he was younger and has been experimenting some strange reactions around electronics since then. After accidentally stumbling into a laboratory and mistakenly being transported to another planet whose inhabitants are mystical creatures, Andy needs to decide if he wants to die or live as a dragon.

I think my problem with the story was the many subplots. They made it difficult to connect with the main plot, and it was confusing to keep on with the story.

I really wish I had liked this book. There is nothing better than a mystical world with dragons, orc, elves. Nevertheless, no matter how many times I tried to finish it, I just couldn't.

I received a copy of Becoming the Dragon by Alex Sapegin from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was intrigued by the summary and really wanted to like this novel, but the storyline could have been pulled together better and the characters developed more (less flat). It was a struggle to continue reading several times.

Unfortunately, this book just missed the mark for me.

Its a fast paced action book, with portal traveling and how you suddenly become a dragon. Its the first book in a series and I’m eager to learn what is going to happen next,

The begining of what promises to be an interesting series. the "Dragon Inside" series promises to be one full of magic, war, and the return of dragons.
Andy is transport from Earth to a world similar to medieval times. The only difference? There be Dragons!!! and magic. As Andy tries to navigate this strange world, he is captured and put on display. There he befriends a dragon and together they escape. Andy is given a gift that changes him into a dragon and he has to learn how to "Become the Dragon".

A great start to "The Dragon Inside" series. I really liked the pacing of the story and how personable Andy is for YA readers. The glossary at the end was also a great reference!

I had some trouble following the story for a while but overall it was a decent book with characters that came to life. The young man that ends up having so many adventures seems a bit too reluctant and broods too much. The descriptions of the areas and events that take place are entertaining and the inventiveness of the author when designing new creatures for him to deal with kept me reading.
