This is the kind of rigorous review of Black Panther Party history that's been missing from my shelves. It goes in the inter=personal politics without being too much of a bio and gives a great overview of the complicated relationship the BPP had with many of the new communities it entered.

Though this is the third volume in a series exploring the Black Panthers, it can be read as a stand alone. The picture Jeffries paints in this book goes beyond the political movement most people associate with the group and offers a more philanthropic side. As a Puerto Rican, these actions--feeding and clothing those in need, and even providing health care--reminded me of the Young Lords movement. Both groups went beyond just being a civil rights movement and became through its humanitarian efforts became about human rights.
