Stateline is the first book in the Dan Reno Private Detective series. To date there are six books in the series, I've read them all, this initial entry is not quite as good as some of the later ones but still not bad.

When private detective Dan Reno (pronounced wren-o) gets invited to the wedding of his ex-wife's niece in South Lake Tahoe his first instinct is not to go... then he starts thinking about the prospect of a day of skiing in Tahoe and decides to reconsider.

When the groom-to-be is brutally murdered his wealthy father wants to hire Reno to find the killer. The P. I. doesn't think it's a good idea to get mixed up in an ongoing police investigation... until the grieving father offers a six-figure payday.

Suffice it to say that Dan Reno is not so much a white knight on a steed as he is an old West bounty hunter out to get ahead. This is a hard-boiled novel, not for the easily offended or faint of heart. Our hero (actually closer to an anti-hero) is a hard drinking, two fisted brawler who lives by his own code and does what it takes to get the job done.

Drugs, hookers, crooked cops, violence, alcohol abuse, foul language, sex, and likely several other potentially offensive subjects that I'm forgetting are present in this book.

Even though it takes a little while to get going (lots of backstory) and I'm not a big fan of all the detailed description it contains I still think this is a pretty decent crime novel.

***Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a hard core private investigator story. There is many un-savory characters through out the book, both good guys and bad guys. When a tycoon's son is murdered the night before his wedding, the father puts up a hefty junk of change as a reward to anyone who finds the killer. This is just what Reno needs, but now he has to fight a group dirty cops just to stay alive and continue investigating. The book is filled with action, violence, sex, all those things and much, much swearing. If that isn't your cup of tea....neither is this book. I voluntarily read a copy of this book.

Thanks to netgalley for the ARC of this great read.
Stateline is the first book in the series featuring Dan Reno, a private investigator come bounty hunter. This first book sets the tone of a thrilling new series, that I can't wait to get my hands in future. Great read, thrilling from beginning to end.

Great action packed story! Many twists and turns. I read this in one day, I could not put this book down. Can't wait to read more by Dave Stanton.

A fun, easy read. Don't take it too seriously - witty one liners, characters we've seen before. Wrapped itself up too quickly. Decent page turner for a wet afternoon

Absolutely loved this book and can't wait for the next book in the series. I could barely put the book down. Had no idea who did what in this thriller (which is the idea) but really well written. I particularly liked the epilogue that tied up all the little ends and finished the story perfectly. Now just to get my husband to read it too.

I enjoyed this book which is the first in the Dan Reno series.

I thought Reno was a great character and I am looking forward to see how his character develops over the upcoming books. This was a great start to the series. the writing style was great and the pace and plot were spot on.

It was a fairly quick read for me and I was really taken with the plot line and the punchy nature of the book as soon as I settled in to the story, which I will admit too me a little while longer than normal but as soon as I was in to it I wanted to carry on reading where I could.

I thought that everything worked really well in the book and I have given it four stars and looking forward to reading the rest of the books later this year!

Stateline is such an interesting story with an equally intriguing main character in Dan Reno. He isn't perfect and definitely has his flaws but I guess this just makes the story all the more entertaining. Reno is trying to sort his life out and when he is offered the chance to earn some serious money looking for a murderer he decides to take it. However this just sets him on a very dangerous and twisty path. Reno is reckless at times but this definitely helps ramp up the tension.

There is a lot going on in this story such a corruption, murder and drugs but it all unfolds in a way that provides some pretty tense moments too. The story takes place in a few different locations but I felt this helped keep the momentum of the story up. I'm looking forward to seeing what is in store for Dan Reno in the next book.

Gritty and dark from start to finish!

Four stars from me!

With thanks to Sarah at Bloodhound Books & Netgalley for my copy. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.

This is the first introduction to Dan Reno, a likeable private detective. He is swept up in an investigation after the death of a billionaire son on the eve of his wedding.
The book takes us on a journey including murder, drugs, corrupt cops and prostitution.
I really enjoyed getting to know Dan Reno and hope to read more of his antics in the future. I also loved the billionaires assistant, who really came into his own towards the end of the book.
There are lots of twists and turns and the book travels at a non-stop pace. If you are after a fast paced crime novel with a bit of everything then this is the book for you.

This is a debut novel and the first in a series, which is always good to get in at the beginning of a series.

The book follows the main character Dan Reno, who is a Private Investigator who is offered the big money job of a lifetime.

The book really gets into Reno's back story and history, which I thoroughly enjoyed reading about as it brings the characters to life more and really engaged me as a reader.

The book is a brilliant read with lots of danger and intrigue, I liked how the author has made Reno more realistic with his life problems and through this makes you really care about him and want him to survive.

There is lots of adventure in the book, which I am hoping the author carries on through the rest of the series.

Overall I felt this was a brilliant read, and can't wait for the rest of the series.

Stateline is book number one in the Dan Reno series and I enjoyed it, a great start to the series. I found it an easy read but more of a crime/detective/investigation story than a thriller.

This story has it all! Fights, drugs, hookers, alcohol, crooked cops, gambling… You name it this book has it. It is action packed! However, I did find some of the chapters very long. I liked the PI (private investigator) Dan, he doesn’t mess around. I cannot wait to see what lies ahead for Dan in this series. I awarded four stars and would recommend to you all. Keep your eyes peeled for book number 2 shortly called Blind Luck.

This one wasn’t for me I’m afraid. I couldn’t get on with the characters and I didn’t enjoy the way the story went to be honest.

Stateline is the first book in the series featuring Dan Reno, a private investigator come bounty hunter. There was no way I could not read this book with the eye catching cover and the very intriguing blurb.

I have to admit to start with it took me a little while to get into the book than I normally would expect. Once I was fully into it though I was well and truly hooked.

Being offered a lot of money, there was no way Dan Reno can refuse, even though he is chasing after a killer and could put himself into serious danger. Dan finds himself in some very seedy places trying to uncover the killers identity. They certainly are not the sort of places that most people would frequent.

I really enjoyed the friendship between Dan and Cody in the story. Am not quite sure if Cody is going to be Dan's side kick in the series but I hope so as I really enjoyed the banter between the both and can see them becoming a much loved duo.

The author takes us on a dark and sometimes violent journey into a criminal world. I enjoyed seeing Dan's investigative skills and he could certainly do a better job than the state police.

Stateline is a solid start into a new crime series. Once the story grabs hold, I was totally absorbed in the investigation which certainly makes for some toe curling reading in parts. Looking forward to reading more in the series.
