A book full of twists that I didn’t see coming! A gripping read about the abduction of a 4 year old girl and the frantic weeks that follow and the unravelling lives of those involved.

While Harriet attended a bookkeeping course and her husband Brian went fishing, 4 year old Alice was left with Harriets friend Charlotte and her 3 kids to attend the local school fete. It’s while Charlotte scans emails and Facebook while the kids play on a ride that Alice goes missing without a trace.

Set in both the now and the before, the intricate storyline keeps the reader guessing for most of the book about who did what and why.

A great book, fast paced with a very real storyline. Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I can't even explain how drawn into this book I was! The story is terrifyingly plausible, the characters are raw and real and emotions run high. I adored the speed at which the book moved and was left gripping the book in shock as I turned the last pages. Such an awesome storyteller!!

The book was a slow start for me, and strangely enough, I had little sympathy for the poor mother Harriet. She was portrayed as a very weak woman, and I don't like characters like that. Meanwhile, she turned out to be a very strong woman, with a will of her own, and towards the end she surprised me endlessly with the actions she takes. Halfway through the book I thought I had the plot figured out, and just kept reading to prove myself wrong.... I really didn't see the twist coming, and thoroughly enjoyed the book.
Recommended.

Excellent read.
This was shoved to the back of my shelf and I am so glad I pulled it out again!
When Harriett’s daughter Alice goes missing at a school fete, everyone blames good her friend Charlotte, who was clearly not paying attention at the time!
Told by both Harriet and Charlotte, this book is clever, chilling, heart breaking and exciting!
Can’t recommend it enough! ❤️

This was an enjoyable psychological thriller, it was quite an emotional book and it had several twists that I really didn't see coming. The characters were good and well drawn, I would recommend this book.

Now You See Her (Her One Mistake) by Heidi Perks is an addictive domestic noir novel with a twist I did not see coming!

What would you do if you lost your best friends’ child? It’s a terrifying thought and I cannot imagine which is worse - being the friend losing someone’s child or being the parent whose child is lost! Guilt, distress, shock – it all dripped off the pages and the reactions of both Charlotte and Harriet are so believable. These are complex characters that have been well developed.

The story is told in alternating viewpoints, before and after the main event, and as the secrets, lies and manipulations are revealed, the story gains a momentum that lasts until the very last page. I thought the whole scenario would be an accurate description of what would happen in this situation.

It’s a compelling read that moves quickly and keeps you guessing. Nothing is what is seems, and no-one is to be trusted.

Definitely recommended reading!

Now you see her is full of emotion and deceit, and kept me on my toes throughout.

The book begins with Harriet making the big decision to finally leave her young daughter Alice with friend Charlotte for the day whilst she attends an accounting course. Harriet has never left Alice with anyone before as she has been a stay at home mum since Alice was born. Harriet's husband Brain likes it that way too so it suits everyone. However Alice can see that Brain is struggling with the bills and wants to be able to bring in a little more cash.

Everything goes wrong for Harriet that afternoon when Alice is abducted from the local fair where Charlotte has taken her along with her own 3 children. Charlotte is instantly taken in for questioning, Harriett refuses to talk to her and Brain can not get his head around why his wife would leave their daughter.

I loved the characterisation in Now You See Her. Harriet, Charlotte are Brain are all main characters and we instantly begin to put theories together and gravitate towards some over others, but at the same time, ideas and suggestions are planted into our minds in order to manipulate the way we think. Heidi has built the characters up in a way that even we question who is right and who is wrong.

I really felt for Harriet because she seemed to have to deal with so much, but I also felt for Charlotte because even if she was the reason Alice went missing, none of it had been neglectful, malicious or purposeful.

I usually enjoy books that flip between timelines, and although I thought the idea of this was perfect for the plot, I don't feel like it was done very well at all, which caused a bit of confusion.

I did however, really enjoy how fast paced Now You See Her was. The chapters seemed to fly by and I found myself wanting to keep reading until I had the answers I was so desperate for.

I had to drop a couple of stars because I was pretty disappointed with the ending. I cant go into much detail because it would spoil the book for you but lets just say I think so much was wasted and a lot more could have been done using the plot of the book.

Thank you to Net Galley and Random House UK, Cornerstone for approving me to read this in advance of the release date, I thoroughly enjoyed getting stuck in.

I actually really loved the start of this story. It was a great storyline to begin with, I know my own heart was in my throat with the disappearance of a child. And I felt so awful for poor Charlotte. I felt the writing was great, it flowed nicely, nothing felt rushed, there wasn't an info dump, and surprisingly I actually enjoyed the first two chapters where it can usually go wrong. However, there was a change in the feel of the story. Without revealing any of the storyline, I'll just say that there was a change with the twist. I can't say I can put my finger on what exactly it was, but it changed how I read the book after that and I didn't enjoy it quite as much. I think that adding the DV into the story was great because it's something that is talked about/experienced quite a lot. But the twist... I wasn't a fan of it and it really changed the story for me from then on.

Overall, it was a great read. Thank you so much for allowing me a copy and I look forward to more from this author in the future.

Twists galore!

This book engaged me from the first page. The characters were well defined and revealed more and more of themselves as the story unfolded. I found myself wondering what would happen next whenever I put it down - consequently I read it in two days to find out how it would be resolved.

Now greatly looking forward to Heidi Perks’ next book.

Wow! What a book!
This has been on my TBR list for quite some time and I'm just sorry I didn't get around to reading it sooner.
The story starts with Charlotte agreeing to take care if Harriet's doughter Alice for the day. She takes Alice along with her own children to their school fete, where Alice vanishes without a trace.
Questions and accusations start to fly around the small village they live in and Charlotte's seemingly perfect life suddenly feels like it's been yanked away from her by whoever took her friends little girl.
This book almost felt like 2 completely different stories starting initially with Alice going missing then suddenly to the secrets, lies and manipulations behind the kidnapping.
What felt quite light to start with turned very very dark with expert story telling and amazing mood setting by the author. I really enjoyed the narrative switching between past and present and also Charlotte and Harriet. This was also done very well without becoming too confusing like some books of this nature do!
Overall a very good, well written, compelling page turner of a book!

I really like the idea behind this novel. Charlotte is looking after Alice for her friend – something Harriet never usually allows. Alice is nervous, timid, shy, a bit like her mum. Charlotte, on the other hand, seems confident, sociable, the opposite of Harriet.

She takes her eyes off Alice for a few minutes – and Alice is gone.

This is the part of the novel that really interested me – Charlotte’s reaction, her guilt and distress. We can all imagine how dreadful we would feel, and the way Charlotte reacts is portrayed really well. And Harriet’s reaction too is really convincing. It would be so hard to forgive someone in those circumstances. That’s the stuff of a really gripping tale.

But that’s not what this story is. There’s more to Alice’s disappearance than meets the eye. And that’s where, for me, the story fell down. Without giving too much away, when the ‘twist’ was revealed, I was left feeling a bit confused, because the character’s story up until then, her reactions and emotions, hadn’t led to this. And while it’s the mark of a good twist that you’re shocked and surprised, then there’s the dawning realisation when you think back on what you’ve read and remember little things that pointed to this all along. For me, that was lacking, and so the twist didn’t work.

It’s well-written, and the author can obviously write. It’s just a bit disappointing.
