Whew, what a journey from Jess and Derek in the prologue to when Jess comes come and they meet up again. After escaping the masked man, Jess stayed away from her parents and town until her mom is in the hospital.

Derek had to deal with his being held captive and forced to watch Jess be tortured and raped. That had to have done crazy things to his mind.

There is so many emotional parts as Jess deals with the memories when she returns, her mom in the hospital, then Chuck in the hospital, Derek writing a tell all book about their capture, and then a second time with the masked man.

I loved Derek except when he let Jess get blindsided with his tell all book, I know he had a good reason for doing the book but he really should have prepared her.

Loved all the intrigue, suspense, and the great ending with Jess saving herself! The epilogue was great as we see that everyone has moved on and they are all in a good place. Loved that Pam and Eliot ended up together.

Threat of Danger by Dana Marton, book two in the Mission Recovery series. A possible second chance at love with some suspense. I enjoyed the character development between Jess/Derek in this book. Dana Marton knows how to give you a great story. This book is a sure Win. I look forward to reading more books in the Mission Recovery series and more by this author.

Jess Taylor and Derek Daley share a long history: childhood neighbors, first loves, and three horrific days held captive by a killer who was never caught. Neither of them stayed in their small Vermont town after their escape from the killer ten years ago and neither of them has fully dealt with the emotional fallout of their ordeal. Derek joined the Navy, became a SEAL, and is now a bestselling author of crime thrillers while Jess moved cross-country and is now one of Hollywood's top stuntwomen. They have not kept in touch but they have never forgotten.

When a family emergency calls Jess back to her hometown she's stunned to discover Derek living in his family home nextdoor. When the emergency necessitates a longer stay than the few days Jess had planned, the feelings she and Derek shared as teens begin to flicker back to life and, gradually, a happy ending for the two becomes a possibility. But someone with unfinished business from ten years ago is determined to write a different ending.

Once again, Dana Marton has penned a fast-paced, pulse-pounding romantic thriller that had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. From the first few pages of the prologue, I knew I was in for a wild ride and even though I was almost certain I knew the villain's identity mid-way through the book it didn't take anything away from the intensity of the story. Marton's hero and heroine are vividly portrayed and their stories related in such a way that I felt as though I was there with them every step of the way. The emotions - fear, guilt, resentment, love - that have battered both Jess and Derek over the years have affected them in different ways but have molded them into the strong, complex people who come together again to take back their lives from the person who changed them so fundamentally ten years ago and waits to finish the job today.

Derek is a likable character who evokes empathy almost immediately while Jess is a bit more difficult to warm to. As her backstory unfolds, however, and what she endured following the abduction is revealed, she becomes a much more sympathetic character. And as she reconnects with friends and family she left behind, I began to warm to her more and more until I was actively cheering for her and her happiness. The secondary cast that surrounds Derek and Jess is vital to the story and to the journey of the past ten years, especially for Jess. Familial relationships are at the center of critical decisions she made when she was eighteen as well as those she faces in the present and forgiveness necessary to her future happiness. And then there's the truly vile villain. Let's just say I was supremely satisfied when justice was served in that corner too.

Threat of Danger is the second book in Marton's Mission Recovery series but is a standalone story. If you enjoy a breath-stealing, romantic suspense thriller with a solid mystery and a second-chance romance at its heart, this is a book that's sure to appeal.

A great second chance story. Jess and Derek are great together, if they would only be in the same state at the same time. After a tragedy 10 years earlier, Jess hadn't been home. She has barely talked to her family. Now her mother has a broken hip and she goes home to see what she can do. Her life is on the other side of the US and she really didn't want to go home. Derek has come home after the Navy and is a writer. Now isn't the time for Jess to be there. He wants her just as much now as he did 10 years ago, but now isn't the time for her to be there. As Derek is trying to draw out the man who made their life hell, Jess is trying to just keep it together and not remember all that had happened to her. Can Derek keep her safe this time? He wasn't able to the last time. I really would like to see Kaylee get her own story.

Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) provided by the Author and Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an fair and honest review.

I am not a fan of the prickly heroine and Jess starts out not only prickly but with a giant maple tree on her shoulder. In this case, she has every right and I truly emphasize. Jess's character faced and overcame a tragedy and the readers got to experience how she did that along with defeating the baddie and finding true love. Great book.

When a place you love becomes your worst nightmare what do you do? Do you buck up, stay and suffer the torture of the unknown, or, do you run? Jess ran. Derek ran too, but he came back. Now, after 10 years, Jess, a successful Hollywood stuntwoman, is back, but only for a few days, okay, maybe a few weeks, but she is NOT staying. The psycho madman was never found and even looking at the maple forest makes her shake and facing down her fear is not on her agenda. She wants to make the old farmhouse livable for her mom who suffered a broken hip and then get the heck back to her life in LA. So much for best laid plans.

Derek became a kick a** Navy SEAL and vowed never to be as helpless as he was while Jess suffered those three days. His career ended early with a permanent disability, but his second career as a best selling author is just as rewarding. Since his return he has never stopped looking for the masked man. His latest book was written specifically to call out him out and provoke him. He didn't figure on Jess being in the crosshairs and how much he still loved and wanted to protect her. 4 1/2-Stars

Threat of Danger is book 2 in the Mission Recovery series and a great continuation of the series. These books can be read as standalones as the only real connection is the main characters being in the same unit. A thrilling suspense and a well written second chance romance. The characters are well thought out and the storying engaging throughout. I would definitely recommend this book and series.

Dana Marton comes out of the gate at a full run with the second novel in her Mission Recovery Series, THREAT OF DANGER. I’m not going to lie, y’all, this is a rough, intense book that follows Jess Taylor, who reluctantly returns home after a decade to help her mother, who fell and broke her hip. There’s no run-of-the-mill family drama that romanced Jess away from the family maple syrup business to that of a successful (and strong) Hollywood stuntwoman. Nope … Taylorville, Vermont, is where the devil lived. “On this land she’d been kidnapped. On this land she’d been tortured. On this land she’d been raped.” If you have triggers, take heed, Dana Marton has other great romantic suspenses that may better suit you.

And she’d had to be forged, remade, because that old, sweet, innocent Jess had been broken.

As a young teenager, Jess was in love with Derek Daley, the boy next door. At two years older than she, Derek was athletic, handsome and her dreamboat. When he finally notices her and asks her on a date, he suggests they go out to the “old cabin” after a movie. If you’re a child of the ’80s, like I am, you know that all the bad things happen at night in an old abandoned cabin. It’s not a sexy place to make out with your dream boy. But no matter how much I shouted at my Kindle, Jess didn’t listen. And bad things happened to Jess and Derek. Over the course of three days, they were held captive in a POS trailer in the woods where she was tortured and raped, and Derek was tied down and forced to watch. It had broken him and forged him into something new, too, and his path led him to the Navy and the SEAL program.

One of the reasons Jess left Taylorville was because people in town theorized she and Derek had made up the event to cover up their own sexy games gone awry. No body had ever been found of their captor, thereby proving that they were lying. They were told to just get over it — her mother included. So she moved to L.A. to live with an aunt who made regular therapy sessions mandatory. Therapy strengthened her mind. Becoming a stuntwoman strengthened her body and gave her focus. Her mentor taught her to “restate and reframe” stunts, which turns out to be good advice for life.

After Derek’s military career ended with a helicopter crash and six months as a POW, he started writing as a form of therapy. It turned out to be an effective venture for him, because he’s now a successful, bestselling author of thrillers. He also came home to Taylorville and has been helping Jess’ family with odd jobs. When he realized Jess had come home, he scrambles to make sure the plans he’d set in motion won’t hurt the woman he still loves.

But all these years later, teenage girls are still disappearing, and both Derek and Jess feel the urgency of danger … they are confident the same man who’d been their captor is still up to his torturous nightmares.

Jess and Derek are both wonderfully robust, rich characters, with tragic and compelling backstories — and fierce forward momentum. Those three days that forged new individuals made them strong enough to face their demon and come out the victors. Marton’s pulse-pounding romantic suspense not only paints a disturbing picture inside the mind of a psychopath, it tells the story of strength and survival and perseverance. And in the end, it also offers a glimpse of happiness and hope. Bam! Romance.

This was a really good read, that grabbed me from the prologue and never really let go. And I enjoyed how this story developed, and that you are slowly fed details of what really happened to Jess and Derek ten years ago when they decided to spend some time alone together in a cabin in the woods.

And as the story built so did the tension. Especially towards the end when everything started to unravel, and by that point I was on the edge of my seat, a d had literally no idea who the kidnapper was until they were revealed.

Plus, I liked that even though this story dealt with some tough subjects including kidnap and rape there was still moments of humour. Not to mention a sweet and subtle romance, that I really enjoyed reading.

And I would happily recommend Threat of Danger to others.

Threat of Danger is a fast paced thrill ride that captivated me from the beginning and kept me flipping pages. I liked the significance of Jess and Derek's chosen professions as they tried to overcome the horrific events of their past and find the serial killer that was lurking. I loved Jess and Derek's second chance love story, and I look forward to Dana Marton's next release. She is one of my favorite authors!

Book 2 of Ms Marton’s series, Mission Recovery, is a stand alone book .
The main characters are Jess Taylor and Derek Daley. Ten years ago they were kidnapped and had a horrific experience. Both left town and went their separate ways. One became a stuntwoman, and the other a Navy SEAL and currently a bestseller author.
They are back in town for different reasons and their first meeting is one filled with mixed feelings .
It’s a story filled with mystery, edge of your seat moments and second chances. It’s also a story on how our past experiences, mold our present. At times heartbreaking but also heartwarming.
Another engaging story with complex characters by this talented author.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

An exciting romantic suspense tale. Ten years ago a horrible event in the lives of the two major characters sent them both off in different directions. Now both have returned home. Will they be able to move beyond the past? An intriguing mystery because they need to discover who caused all their misery before they can move on. I laughed. I cried. I needed to read faster. While I am not a fan of coarse language (not that there is much) or intimate sexual details (there is some), I was so enthralled with the characters and their stories that it was easy to overlook. The ancillary characters added much to the enjoyment.

On the most romantic night of her teenaged life, Jess and long-time crush Derek are kidnapped and held captive for three torture-filled days before they are able to escape. Fleeing her memories and her family for ten years, Jess has rebuilt herself into a sought-after movie stuntwoman. But when her mother is hospitalized, she reluctantly returns home, briefly, to help with the family business. The last thing she expects is to once again meet Derek, nor does she want any more reminders of her experience, especially when news stories report another girl missing, possibly as a result of a serial killer. Jess has already overcome her past by becoming strong and independent, not just despite her experience but because of it. Can she now learn that facing the past does not need to be done alone, but can also be more effective with the help and support of others. And what can she make of her renewed feelings for Derek. This mystery had an interesting twist, and the redeveloping relationship between Jess and Derek was enjoyable. Note that there are some explicit sexual scenes in this book. Disclosure: I am voluntarily reviewing an advance reading copy of this story.

4.5 stars.
Dana Marton’s talent in delivering a cleverly plotted story with two engaging characters never ceases to amaze me. For me, “Threat of Danger” was all about the pleasure of reading and getting to know these incredible main characters: Derek, a wounded warrior with a sense of humor, and Jess, a stuntwoman who made herself stronger after the horror in her past. And what a cast of great secondary characters and the strong bonds they develop.
Jess and Derek are the epitome of the old-lovers-reunited trope, therefore the chemistry is somehow replaced by a sense of familiarity that is so soothing and relaxing. It’s like they have been apart for ten days instead of ten years.
Derek, the former SEAL turned thriller writer, is such an alluring hero, wounded, yet strong, and so tender and passionate about Jess. So quietly sure about how they belong together. I loved Derek and his alphaness, tempered by a softness that is equally striking.
The small town, Taylorville, that can be cozy, safe and friendly, but also mean and evil, is wonderfully displayed. I enjoyed the Vermont setting and the depiction of the maple syrup operation too.
I'm grateful to the publisher,

This is the second book in the Mission Recovery series. It can be read as a stand alone book though. Jess and Derek were kidnapped and Jess was tortured 10 years ago. Fast forward 10 years and Derek is a best selling novelist and Jess is a stunt woman in Hollywood. Jess left Taylorsville and never returned until her mother fell and needed her. Derek has been hunting for clues to the kidnapper since his return from the Navy. This book is full of stories of their extended families also. The stories are integrated into the book so well you feel a part of the family. I didn't figure out who the kidnapper was until just before it was revealed. This is the story I like - it keeps you guessing about "who" is it.

Threat of Danger is book 2 in a series, Called MIssion Recovery. It can definitely be read as a stand a lone.. This is dark, suspenseful romantic second chance. There is an implied rape, torture, abuse but the strong independent women who comes out of this is a survivor. She is also a wildly successful stunt women.. When her mother is hospitalized she comes back home, back where it took place. Derek, who was with her on that fateful night became a Navy Seal. He was captured, wounded and is also back home. Explosive chemistry., painful memories to work through and another girl is missing! I wasn't sure who the predator was till almost the end. This book is a true "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" story with suspense a HEA. and wonderful secondary characters; I would recommend this book to anyone who likes suspenseful thriller, romance, hot male and a strong independent women. All thoughts and opinions are my own, Thank you Montlake and NetGalley!

I am loving this series! This is one of my favorite tropes mixed with another; second chance romance and romantic suspense; just sucks me right in. This is such a good story that will have you shaking in your boots one minute and laughing the next all while keeping it real. Loved Jess & Derek and the second chance they get! These are wonderful, well developed characters that make you want to go on their journey with them. Female lead is so strong! Love that! I am really looking forward to Book 3.

Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC of this book.

I really like this series. I really like this book and the characters. This book is full of angst, mystery and love.

Jess and Derek have something besides a teenage crush tying them together and it's not good. When Jess returns home after mother has broken her hip the last person she thought she would see again was Derek.

Derek is a famous thriller author now, after leaving the Navy - as a SEAL, and he has moved back home. He is in need of making things right, but first he has to get Jess to leave town. Now!

Find out all the drama, good and bad, in this book.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Four and a half stars.

10 years ago Jess Taylor and Derek Daley were abducted in the Vermont woods and held for three days by their sadistic captor.

These days Jess is a successful stuntwoman in LA and Derek, former Navy SEAL, is a thriller writer. After Jess and Derek were accused of making the whole thing up and villified as attention-seekers Jess left Taylorville and didn't even come back for her father's funeral but now her mother has fallen over and broken her hip Jess can't stay away any longer from the small town that left her high and dry.

Jess returns to Taylor's Sugar, the maple sugar farm her parents and grandparents before them ran to find life pretty much the same, even, she is horrified to find out, Derek Daley living next door and not in New York or some other glamorous city. Returning to Taylorville and seeing Derek brings back all the old memories, but also a sneaking suspicion that their abductor didn't die 10 years ago.

I read the previous book in this new series, I enjoyed it but there was a little too much woo-woo for my tastes. Nevertheless the plot was engaging and I really liked the characters and the way that the heroine's therapy didn't 'Abracadabra' make the hero better, just gradually helped to ease the problems, to see the wood for the trees ( that would be a joke if you have read the first book). The woo-woo in this book is restricted to a group of locals who have a Sasquatch Society - basically they look for evidence of Sasquatch in the Vermont countryside.

I really liked this book despite not really reading much romantic suspense anymore - otherwise I'd never go for a walk in the woods anymore :). About halfway through this book I turned to my husband and précised the plot and said "I think the abductor is X or Y" - well I was wrong! So great misdirection, especially considering I read the entire book in less than one day so I didn't lose any threads.

Jess was, literally, a kick-ass heroine and thank the lord she stayed that way throughout the book. Derek was - can you have a Beta Alpha male? - he was wonderful, clever, handsome, successful, brave, yet caring and considerate. I'd say he was my new book boyfriend but I think Jess would kick my butt if I looked at him wrong. Ivy Deluca introduced me to the idea of a BGF (book girlfriend) and if I thought Jess would hang out with someone who can't run more than 50 yards without fear of a heart attack, she'd definitely be my very first BGF!

Loved the way this series has gone, linked but wholly separate (I'm not gonna think on that long before I see the flaw in my logic). Can't wait for the next one.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Loved the storey. The killer's identity was unknown for most of the book. Jess and Derek escaped from a madman a decade ago, thanks to Derek's courage. The killer, was creepy to say the least a madman. The storey involved all my emotions. In the end the hero's win.
