This is an amazing book that is so relevant today in this digital age that we live in. Since it deals with the issue of social media and how easy it is to share pretty much anything online, even things one thinks are done privately, I feel it is a very important read for those with teenage daughters AND sons. Rochelle Weinstein is a wonderful storyteller and her writing in this book is fantastic. This one kept me up reading late at night from the first night I started reading. It was so very hard to put down. I liked the characters in the book, parents Bobby and Emma and their twin 15-year-old daughters, Zoe and Lily, and could really feel their sadness and torment. Such a gut-wrenching story that was very well done. This is a book that I will be highly recommending!

I received an advance review copy of this book via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Somebody’s Daughter by Rochelle B. Weinstein

Brief Summary: Emma and Bobby Ross, owners of the Ross Hotel on Miami Beach, lead a picture perfect life as the unofficial first family in town. On the night of their twins’ fifteenth birthday, they learn that one of their daughter’s made an embarrassing indiscretion that was caught on video and soon goes viral.

Highlights: I thought the Ross’s response to their daughter’s behavior was quite steeped in denial. I actually thought the daughter’s behavior was quite typical for a teenager. This is a very emotionally charged novel and at times a bit extreme. It got very interesting once they started investigating the cybercrime, which the SVU fan in me loved. Also the themes of mistakes, lies, and forgiveness are timeless!

Explanation of Rating: 4/5; this book with it’s inclusion of mental health a midst drama won me over by the end.

Psychology Factors: It was music to my clinical psychologist’s ears when their attorney told them their biggest priority was their daughter’s psychological health and the hardest part would be her emotional well-being. I LOVED the recommendation that they pursue professional help for her and I wish more authors made that part of their writing!

Favorite Quotes: “She is more than this mistake!” “Every parent wants to believe they know their child.”

Great pick for parents and book clubs!

Thank you to Net Galley and Lake Union Publishing for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review

One of my favorite authors is Jodi Picoult because she writes novels about topical issues that don't have black and white answers. Thanks to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing, I have discovered a similar author. In Somebody's Daughter, Rochelle B. Weinstein has created a situation that far too many families are facing thanks to our modern technology. It is far too easy for our young sons and daughters to unwittingly get caught up in cybercrime. How do we as parents react? How can we best support them? There are no easy answers.

Somebody's Daughter struck a chord with me as a teacher and a mother. Rochelle B. Weinstein focuses on the mistakes of children and their parents, and her overall message is one that needs to be heard. I particularly gravitated towards the relationship between Emma and her daughter, Zoe. Overall, a thought-provoking read.

This was like reading a lifetime movie. You didn't loose any of that powerful feeling in the writing which means Rochelle Weinstein did her job! Most teens can relate to this today as bullying online happens a lot and how everyone makes mistakes,

I really enjoyed this book. It tackled all sides of the story quite well. I could empathize with each of them.
I loved the way the hotel was “one of the girls.”

This book is about things that happen today. More than we may like to think. Anyone with teenagers should read this book. Social media plays a big role in this story. The ending was not expected. Most of the characters you can empathize with, but not the father. Nice read. This is a book that I would recommend. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the ARC of this book. Although I received the book in this manner, it did not affect my opinion of this book nor my review.

Thanks to Lake Union Publishing and Net Galley for a copy of this book. I found it to be a timely story of raising teenagers in a digital world. The writing style was good but at times the story felt repetitive. The story focuses on the Ross family which have includes parents, Emma and Bobby and their identical twin teenage daughters. Initially, the family seems flawless but one mistake by one of the girls changes everything and the parents need to reevaluate many aspects of their lives.
The author does an excellent job of illustrating the dangers of the internet as once something is out in cyberspace it’s not so easy to pull it back.
I think this story was well done but I had a hard time relating to this family as they were clearly quite privileged.

I read this book for my enjoyment. I won't be recommending it to my 4th graders. I loved this book! The characters were easy to like and root for. The main issue in the book is something many parents are going to have to deal with. I wasn't expecting the book to end the way it did, but I loved the ending! I'm going shopping for more books by this author!

Subject is very relevant today, unfortunately. I enjoyed the story very much and read the entire book in an afternoon. I ordered this book for my sister who has daughters and I know she can relate to the subject. Really well written with believable characters

I received a digital ARC of #Somebody'sDaughter from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the premise of this book. The problem and the message are very real 21st century problems, and definitely ones to be addressed. The author did this very well and the implications of one stupid mistake are clearly explained. I don't think you realise how one mistake can alter so many lives in as deep a way as they did here. But this is not just fiction; it happens in daily life to people.

I didn't find myself hooked with this book but I did enjoy it. It sets out a clear message for people and gives the reader things to think about and reflect upon.

Thank you Lake UniOn Publishing and Netgalley for a complimentary copy of this book in return for my honest review.

I had never heard of Rochelle Weinstein prior to seeing her book on Netgalley so I am very glad that I had the opportunity to read this book and find a new, to me, author to read more books from.

The themes in this book are important and timely in our world today. I encourage anyone with tweens amd teens to read this book and understand the severe implications that run through many many lives when cyber crimes occur. This book shows the destruction and devastation that powerful emotions such as jealousy can evoke and how one decision can potentially change the directions and futures of so many people.

I took a little while to get into the book but once I was in I was hooked. I really connected.with Emma, the mum. I felt so much for her throughout the book and batted for her when she felt so alone and torn, to me this shows great character development.

I look forward to reading more from this author, thank you Lake Union and Netgalley.

The Ross family may seem like the perfect family to others, but a series of events with their teenage daughter causes other secrets to come out.

In a world of social media, this book really hit home with me since I have a few preteens in my house. I hope that my children are never put into such a compromising position where an act that should have been between two people is posted for others to see on social media.

This book was a great read and I could not put it down.

This is a five star modern fiction story. Emma and Bobby are happily married and have twin teenage daughters, Zoe and Lily. A scandal breaks out involving Zoe and the details are sent to all her friends by text and then put on the internet. The who!e family are badly affected by the scandal, causing Emma to reveal a secret, she has had for many years, to Bobby. I found the story very moving and was amazed at how easy photos or videos can be sent by phone and on the internet. Will the family be able to come together and survive? Read on!

Emma and Bobby Ross have the perfect loving family with twin daughters, Lily and Zoe. They all live in a ritzy hotel in Miami that is owned by their family. This idyllic life is shattered after Zoe attends a party with her high school friends. A week later while celebrating the twins fifteenth birthday Emma learns of a shocking video that has gone viral of Zoe. The aftermath stresses the entire Ross family with embarrassing scandalous attention and unknown ramifications.

Each family member has a different reaction to the scandal. Bobby seeks revenge against the person who posted the video. He is angry and unable to provide emotional support to his family in the midst of the investigation. Emma is concerned for her daughters’ emotional state and how she will cope at school. This event also becomes the catalyst to address problems that she has kept buried for years. This instability wreaks havoc on the family dynamics and they need to make major changes to move forward.

Somebody’s Daughter highlights an important topic which explores the growing use of technology by teens. The use of computers, phones, and social media can be greatly beneficial but when used improperly there is the potential for abuse. This was the first book that I read by Rochelle B. Weinstein and I look forward to more novels by this author.

As a mother of 3 children in a social media world, this story hit close to home. This book was a page turner for sure! A family filled with mistakes, lies, and heartbreak. Will their love hold them together?

This is a book that I feel parents with teens need to read. It will certainly touch your heart in so many ways.

I never thought about how technology can and does touch us all. Especially young teens. They are so innocent and have no idea that they things they do today can and will affect them forever.

The Ross family have it all. Looks, love and an ideal place to live. What teen would not love living in a nice hotel on the beach. Going to a nice school and having many friends. What parent would not want to give their child the best life they can. But what do you do when a child makes a mistake that can cost them so much. What if one parent is not standing up for that child. Not taking up for them the way they should. Emma and Bobby are good parents but Bobby is not stepping up like he should when young Zoe gets in trouble. It causes a rift between him and Emma. Can they heal? Will things work out? This is a very touching story of twins. Different but the same. They are so close and love each other so much. One video from a cell phone has the ability of ruining three lives. The two teens in the video and the one who took it. This book certainly teaches much forgiveness. I would hope to have that much forgivenessin my heart if faced with the same adversity.

This is a very emotional book that will leave you feeling so hopeful. It will certainly bring many tears to your eyes too. I loved it. It was well written and researched. One that I think any parent with a teen should read. Thank you NetGalley for this wonderful touching book of love and forgiveness.

5 stars.....

Ripped straight from the headlines, Somebody’s Daughter is a topical, hard-hitting and believable read written with compassion, sensitivity and heart from a writer who deftly and cleverly explores the ties that bind a family together and the crises that threaten to tear them apart.

Life for the Ross family is as close to perfect as it is possible to get. Emma and Bobby Ross have a great life on the shores of Miami Beach with a successful business, no financial worries, a perfect marriage and a great circle of friends. Their twin daughters Zoe and Lily are their pride and joy and Emma and Bobby are sure that their girls will navigate the trials and tribulations of adolescence with dignity and grace and make a seamless transition into being successful adults. Although the girls are not yet fifteen, Bobby and Emma have brought the girls up to know right from wrong, but not even in their worst nightmares could they imagine how one impulsive decision and a shocking error of judgement could change their lives forever and threaten the domestic idyll which they used to take for granted.

When Zoe goes to a party, Bobby and Emma give her the usual parental warnings and ask her to be careful and to not do anything she might regret. But an inexperienced teenager who has led a rather sheltered life and who is in a hurry to grow up never did pay much heed to her parents’ warnings. As she meets a boy and consumes one alcoholic drink too many, Zoe ends up doing something with a boy which she might be a little too immature for. But this is not a youthful mistake that can be easily brushed under the carpet and consigned to the past for Zoe’s indiscretion is caught on camera and it goes viral sending shock-waves rippling across the community. The community her parents are considered to be pillars of.

As the Ross family find themselves thrust under the unforgiving spotlight of a very public scandal, shame, disgrace, judgment and retribution are emotions which they find themselves contemplating as they struggle to rebuild the shattered fragments of their life. But for Emma this scandal runs deeper than mere embarrassment for Zoe’s mistake triggers off memories from her past she has tried her utmost to forget. Memories that could jeopardize everything which she holds dear to her heart.

With their marriage hanging by a gossamer thread and their daughters desperate for a way out of this sordid mess they have found themselves in, will there be light at the end of the tunnel for the family who had once had it all? Or should the Ross family resign themselves to spending the rest of their lives haunted by old mistakes and past secrets?

Somebody’s Daughter is a terrific read that grabs you by the throat from the very first page and keeps you riveted to the page until the final breath-taking conclusion. Rochelle B. Weinsten is a terrific talent who pulls no punches and writes with unflinching honesty about a family in tatters trying desperately to survive in the wake of a shocking scandal. Affecting, searingly emotional, unforgettable and so compelling that your entire life will be put on hold once you start reading this book, Somebody’s Daughter explores pertinent issues such as cyber-bullying, internet sexual harassment and teenage angst in a way that is sure to strike a chord with parents the world over.

Believable, engrossing and wonderfully compelling, Somebody’s Daughter is a compulsively readable book that will stay with you for a very long time.

This was an enjoyable books, about how the seemingly "perfect" family - Emma, Bobby and their twins Zoe and Lily - can be a façade and hide mistakes and secrets from the past. Zoe makes a mistake and ends up having an inappropriate situation with a boy posted for all the world to see. How her parents navigate this and how today's society of 24/7 social media can impact an entire family is at the core of this story. It was a good, although forgettable, book.
Thank you to Lake Union Publishing, Rochelle Weinstein and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
