Rochelle Weinstein has written a book that gave me the chills, purely parental & mom of three children chills that I last had when reading 13 Reasons Why. It made me cringe and some parts were hard to read, but that is what I appreciated about the book because raising children during this time of social media, peer pressure, adolescence, and the consequences of particular actions is a messy. Bravo and applause for a book that I have been recommending to parents at my job because of the harsh reality presented in this book and overall raising awareness of what I believe is a current social crisis. Thank you Netgalley and Lake Union Publishing for an e-copy arc in exchange for an honest review.

Two twin girls and one mistake. A mistake that forever marks one twins life and changes the lives of everyone around her. Very emotional and thought provoking. Makes you wonder what you would do if it happened to your teenager. Great characters and a good story.

4 timely stars to Somebody’s Daughter! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

The Ross family has it all; loving parents, almost-15-year-old twin daughters, Zoe and Lily, a strong community, and a home in Miami Beach.

On the night of the girls’ 15th birthday party, a cyber scandal involving Zoe is revealed. What ensues is a family left judged, humiliated, and heartbroken by something that could happen to anyone’s daughter. Adding another layer, Emma, the mom, is affected by her own secrets brought out by what happens to her daughter.

The Rosses are a lovely family, and I enjoyed getting to know them and their community. I found both daughters likable and really admired their individual strength. I kept thinking, how does a family heal from something like this? How do you start over living in the same community? Overall, Somebody’s Daughter made me feel deeply, and it made me think.

Thank you to Rochelle Weinstein, Lake Union Publishing, and Netgalley, for the ARC. Somebody’s Daughter is available now!

This is a story on social media and how one picture, one text, one video can change the life of not only the person/people in the video but the family of that person also. I found this story so realistic to the teenage world today. One video was take of sweet 15 year old Zoe and her whole world was changed. Her school life was extremely tough with all the peer judgment. Her home life was hard due to her parents, father especially, not know how to deal with it. Everything she did or thought was called into question. At the end of this drama it was amazing to see the family and their friends come together stronger than they started.

The characters in this story are so real. The mother trying to be understanding, the father wanting to control the situation, the sister just wanting to protect, and the person videoed (I want to say victim but she wasn’t portrayed as such) not knowing who to trust. I could see this happening to many families and having the same reactions as this family. The mother is the hero. She doesn’t give up on anyone, she doesn’t accept that there is no way back from this, and she never stops loving her family.

The side story didn’t seem to add as much to the story as I thought it might. The secret the mother holds onto adds a small twist but doesn’t change my feelings towards the book. With or without the side story this is an eye-opening, conversation starting, and heart breaking/heartwarming story. I think it is a great read for a young adult as it can teach a life lesson and a good read for parents so their eyes are opened as to the world of teenage texting and videoing.

Somebody’s Daughter is not a WOW book, but it is a book that will make you take stock of your life, appreciate the little things, and maybe understand your children a little better.

The Ross family are a close knit one, Bobby and Emma are teenage sweethearts and their twin daughters Zoe and Lily are approaching their 15th birthday. At their birthday party everything changes, Zoe is caught on video in a compromising position and it is circulated. Bobby is devastated and when things get worse he tries to take legal action.....but Emma has her own secrets and this family could be totally blown apart!

A good novel that is very current with the problems teenagers have with things going viral that they have no control over. Good characters and an emotional story that is worth reading.

Bobby and Emma Ross have been married nineteen years and have dated since childhood. They own and live in a luxurious hotel in Miami Beach. They are parents to identical twin daughters, Zoe and Lily. The girls have just turned fifteen and have stellar reputations. Suddenly their dream world becomes a nightmare. Zoe has a consensual sexual encounter with a male classmate at a party and there is a video circulating to prove it. Bobby can not deal with Zoe's behavior and withdraws from his family. He has problems of his own to deal with. Emma comforts and helps Zoe as much as she can, but Zoe's lapse reminds her of her own mistake. Bobby hires a lawyer and promises Zoe he will find the creator of the video and bring that person to justice. Weinstein's topic is timely and very thought provoking.

I have to admit that I hesitated to read this book because our kids are grown but am so very glad that I did. The fact that it's a teenager whose indiscretion is posted online is a mute point. This has occurred to adults as well. The author has written a book that is so relevant to our society right now. I applaud her for handling a sensitive topic so well.
The writing is done so well in this book. Moments of high emotion fairly leap off from the page and stay with the reader. Frustration, sadness, anger, compassion, empathy, love and forgiveness all make appearances in such profound ways. Characters are well developed and the plot doesn't lag at all.
This book is my introduction to this author and what a grand first meeting it was! She has entered my list of 'don't miss a new release' authors.
I received an Advance Review Copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Somebody’s Daughter by Rochelle Weinstein has delivered to us a poignant and gut wrenching tale that should be a must read for every teenage parent. The subject matter of teen promiscuity is difficult and Weinstein masters it with an educated, non-apologetic approach that focuses us inward on the heart and mind of a 15 year old twin caught in a technological web of betrayal. What lengths would you go to protect your child? Will one night destroy their family?
I received an ARC of this book and all views are my own.

Somebody's Daughter should be read by parents of preteens and teens. It is a compelling, emotionally suspenseful cautionary tale about the dangers of modern technology -- dangers that adolescents must understand, appreciate, and guard against. Rochelle B. Weinstein tells the story of the happy Ross family of Miami, Florida, who reside in and operate the hotel left to Bobby and his brother, Jonny, by their parents. Their identical twin 15-year-old daughters are very different -- one excelled at lacrosse while the other is a standout on the high school debate team. Emma assists Bobby with running the hotel while focusing on raising their daughters. Emma and Bobby met and fell in love as kids and there has never been anyone else for either of them. They have enjoyed a happy marriage even while Emma has harbored a potentially destructive secret for many years. A bad judgement call by Zoe has devastating consequences, threatens to fracture the family, and causes feelings and fears that Emma has actively squelched for years back to the surface. The family learns how technology can be used as a weapon to damage Zoe's reputation and future, each reacting to and navigating through the crisis in her/her own manner. Somebody's Daughter is an eye-opening and emotionally moving look at the harm that can be wrought when technology is employed, as well as how a loving family can be threatened in the aftermath.

A very relevant book, regarding the easy access to the digital world, and the repercussions as well as the power of the internet. Felt like important read, as a mom of teen agers, as our children have much power in their fingertips, yet, still the judgment of teenagers... Astounding how one small mistake can tear families and friendships apart. A well written and relatable book, with a beautiful message of accepting imperfections, and the power and difficulty of forgiveness: "Forgiveness is a gift. Not everyone can give it." I loved it, and highly recommend this book. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the early reader edition- all opinions are my own.

Somebody’s Daughter – Rochelle B. Weinstein

I was fortunate to receive this novel as an Advance Reader Copy, in exchange for an objective review.

I don’t know where to start – this book was wonderful!!

Bobby & Emma Ross are the parents of two teenaged twin daughters, Lily & Zoe. Living in a luxury hotel that they own, they are considered one of Miami’s premier families. A deep and abiding love for one another, a secure business, a hotel staff that adores them, a magazine article and cover photos in the works, and a big birthday party planned for the twins 15h birthday - life has never been better.

Then, as a bunch of teens gather for an overnight stay to celebrate the twins 15th birthday, Emma overhears a gasp of horror, and teens murmuring as they glance at a cell phone. She hears the words, “That’s not Lily, it’s Zoe”.

Thus begins a nightmare for the Ross family, as they learn of, and begin to deal with the aftermath of a bad decision and a video gone viral. As Emma struggles to understand and support her daughter, she is haunted by memories of her own youth, and a decision she made that continues to impact her world today.

This is a novel about family, love, shame, revenge, humility acceptance, and forgiveness. It was an amazing read and I could not put it down! It will resonate with you long after the final page is turned! My next to-do is to read the rest of Rochelle B. Weinstein’s work! Fabulous!!

The entire plot of Somebody’s Daughter focuses on the Ross family and how a risqué scandal involving the daughter, Zoe impacts their family. The effects are devastating and have serious repercussions, Zoe’s sister, Lily has to deal with gossip and rumors at school and online and her parents marriage begins to find itself on shaky ground as well as Zoe’s actions stir up old memories for Emma. The characterization is fantastic and felt so true to life, many times while I was reading this I felt like I was witnessing private family moments not meant for public consumption, that’s how accurate Weinstein’s portrayal was. I felt their emotions right alongside them, their pain, confusion, anger and disappointment among many others, this was a highly emotional read.

This book totally wrecked me, it took some of my worst fears as a parent to girls and magnified them in a wholly realistic and believable manner. As much as this was an emotional read, I think it’s such a timely one and covers an important subject that impacts not only parents, but the youth of today. Social media is here to stay, every single day new apps are hitting the market that appeal to young men and women and as teenagers, they’re not capable of always making good choices which makes the fact that they literally have thousands of apps available at their fingertips so, so scary. Forget apps and just think about the phones themselves, everyone has one and that isn’t changing either, but do kids today really know the power technology has? How one mistake, one wrong decision, can seriously impact their life, possibly forever? One picture, one video can have huge implications. This book explores these questions and many more, I could go on and on, its times like this that I wish I had read this one with a book club!

Highly recommended for parents of both girls and boys, it was written in such a smooth way and ended up being a super quick read for me because I just had to know what would happen to each member of the Ross family, I was totally invested and cared for these people.

Somebody’s Daughter in three words: Timely, Touching and Fluid.

I was given an early release copy of this book for an honest review.
For fans of Defending Jacob and Reconstructing Amelia comes a novel of a innocent young girl and what happens at a party one night. I could not tear myself away from this novel! Emma's daughter, Zoe, has made a mistake that threatens to break their family to pieces. Zoe's indiscretion is a stark reminder of a secret that Emma has tried to bury from her own past. The stories of this mother and daughter run parallel and threaten to tear apart everything this family has ever known. When the truth begins to bubble to the surface and secrets are revealed, this family is thrown into turmoil. Emma, her husband and her daughter must examine what justice, strength, and character really mean. Unforgettable gut-wrenching, and impossible to put down, this story will stay with you long after the last page has been turned.

Somebody's Daughter by Rochelle Weinstein is a powerful story about the love, loss, growth, and family. I think I may be in the minority on this one but I felt like I was watching a Lifetime movie. And... I love lifetime movies! But, this one fell pretty flat for me.

I did enjoy the impact and the lesson that Rochelle leaves her readers with on this one. The danger of social media and the internet. I've always been afraid of posting things online and know it can follow you for the rest of your life. Example Catfish.... yikes! Now.. that's another story but I've been catfished once or twice in the dating world. EEEEK.

Anywho... I felt like the story was repeating itself a little bit and I got the message about the loss and heart-ache from the families involved. But, I just feel like it was a little bit of a record going round and round. I caught myself rolling my eyes multiple times and sadly... I saw the story play out in my mind before I read it. It felt just a tad bit too cheesy for my taste.

Overall, I was expecting an awesome story based on the high 4 and 5 reviews but it just wasn't there for me.

3 stars

Well done tale of a family dealing with the fallout of a bad decision and the perils of the internet. Oh Zoe. I don't care what anyone says, 15 is too young to do what you did. Zoe's parents, Emma and Bobby, want to present (and seem to others) that everything in their world is perfect, which we all know is not the case for any family. How they react is what drives this novel. Nicely written. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. I wish more young teens could understand that nothing is private anymore.

This book centres around a family in Miami. Emma and Bobby are celebrating the fifteenth birthday of their twin daughters Zoe and Lily. During the birthday party Emma overhears that there is something involving Zoe being sent via text to the girls at the party. That night their world shatters when it is revealed that Zoe was in a compromising position at a party and it is now being seen by all their friends and school mates. Emma and Bobby have to try and come to terms with Zoe’s actions at the party and the fact that it was videoed and now they have no control over who sees this. Bobby especially can’t come to accept what Zoe has done and he builds up a wall between himself and his family as he seeks to exact revenge on who has sent this video. Just when they think things may be settling down the video goes up on YouTube. Bobby and Emma seek legal help to get the video taken down and to find out who is behind this. We all know in this day and age this could happen to anyone. The book does a good job discussing what happens when things are put on social media sites and what if any control and legal rights we have to stop it. I was totally immersed in this story. You could feel the anguish of this family. There are so many questions raised throughout the story such as cyber harassment, sexual consent, the need for acceptance via likes etc on social media, as well as gender bias in these situations. This is a powerful book in many ways. I was so impressed with Zoe and her ownership of this situation. Throughout this, Emma also revisits mistakes and secrets she kept as a young woman and this now comes back to affect her marriage. As this comes to light Bobby now can’t accept what either Emma or Zoe have done. It was heartbreaking to see how he continued to feel about Zoe. As I said earlier, Zoe is the character who shows amazing growth and maturity amongst this nightmare. This is an important book for anyone and in particular parents of teens. Once I started reading I couldn’t put this book down.

This is an amazing book that is so relevant today in this digital age that we live in. Since it deals with the issue of social media and how easy it is to share pretty much anything online, even things one thinks are done privately, I feel it is a very important read for those with teenage daughters AND sons. Rochelle Weinstein is a wonderful storyteller and her writing in this book is fantastic. This one kept me up reading late at night from the first night I started reading. It was so very hard to put down. I liked the characters in the book, parents Bobby and Emma and their twin 15-year-old daughters, Zoe and Lily, and could really feel their sadness and torment. Such a gut-wrenching story that was very well done. This is a book that I will be highly recommending!

I received an advance review copy of this book via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Picture perfect family (Bobby, Emma, Lily, and Zoe) torn asunder when daughter (Zoe's) private indiscretion was videotaped and went viral. With technology so present in today's society, this is a must read, cautionary tale for all parents and teenagers!

The Ross family—father Bobby, mother Emma, and 15 year old twins, Lily and Zoe—was living a picture perfect life as owners of the prominent Ross hotel and were even dubbed "Miami's First Family" by a local magazine. That perfect life, however, was ripped apart when Zoe's indiscretion with a boy (Price) was videotaped and shared on YouTube for the whole world to see.

Further complicating matters, Zoe's indiscretion causes a secret from Emma's past to come barreling back into the forefront of her thoughts. Can both she and Zoe forgive themselves for their transgressions and learn to move on? Will facing this public scandal help the family heal? Or, will they be forever scarred by their mistakes?

This was a story about consequences, secrets, trust, love (parental and marital), forgiveness, and moving on after hardship.

"She's not that one single mistake. There's so much more to her than a single mistake." - Emma to Bobby about Zoe

Lastly, the dedication of this book was absolutely spot on: "For anyone who has ever made a mistake. And for those who have judged and been judged." I was surprised by the intense emotion at the end of this book and would recommend it to parents of teens, and the teens themselves. This was my first book by this author, and it definitely won't be my last!

If you enjoyed this one as much as I did, then I would highly recommend Young Jane Young (4 stars) by Gabrielle Zevin!

Thank you to the author and the publisher for a free advance copy of this book! All opinions are my own.

This book was about an important issue that is plaguing our children today. Social media and what happens when it is used for things other than good. Zoe and Lily are twins that are wealthy and popular. When Zoe attends a party - that her parents do not know about - she gets involved in a scandal due to a bad decision. This not only affects her family, but others that are involved - it also bring back horrible memories for her mother, who also has a secret of her own.

Thought provoking and well written; this story makes you wonder what lengths would you go to, to protect your child?
