I was provided an ARC copy from Netgalley and publisher in exchange for an honest review.

At first I found it hard to connect with the story itself, I pushed on for a few chapters and was then completely hooked. Having not read the first book in the series, I didn’t feel like I was lost or overly unaware that I was missing information. I loved that this book didn’t dwell on lengthy summaries of the first book, it was a story in and of itself. I felt completely engaged as I read on, and fell in love with the voice of the author, the characters, the twisted plot and the setting of the story, High River, AB, which is practically in my backyard.

I’ve definitely been hooked by this author to continue on and follow her writing journey, what I’m sure to be massive success. I’m off now to pick up the first book in the series, Still Mine.

Many thanks to Simon and Schuster and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book. It introduced me to a new author. I regret not being familair with the first book in the series which I intend to read very soon. Frequent mention was made to Clare's first case searching for a missing woman for Malcolm Boone. I want to learn more about the state of their relationship then and the circumstances where both sustained their wounds. I felt a disadvantage not reading Still Mine, but did enjoy this book.

Clare is in a small town where women have fled for refuge. This is a mystery story of a place where women in distress and danger go to hide in safety, and then hopefully move on with new identities. Sally and her young son, Matthew have vanished and Malcolm has sent Clare undercover to High River to investigate their disappearance.

Everyone has secrets or lies of commission or omission. No one fully trusts others, even family members and friends.I found the story suspenseful, but its so many unreliable characters the sense of urgency became diluted.

Am looking forward to the next book in the series as Clare seems to have found her life's work and am anxious to see what happens next.

Thank you netgalley and Simon Schuster for an advanced eARC in exchange for my honest review.
When I first picked this one I did not realize it was sort of a sequel to author's STILL MINE (Which i have now added to my TBR!) - I say "sort of a sequel" because it's more of a standalone with some of the same characters from her first book.
I really enjoyed this book and it definitely kept my interest all the way through. The main character, Clare did a great job of holding my interest and attention with her mysterious nature; I found her a bit confusing but this kept me intrigued until i began catching on to her purpose.
Tensions are high among the characters and for the most part I found everyone somewhat unlikable. Lots of twists and turns and the ending really threw me off my sleuth game. Never saw THAT coming.
I highly recommend this one and look forward to the possibility of a third installment by Amy Stuart (in the meantime, I'm going to read the first installment, STILL MINE)

I will admit that I read Still Mine and didn't really understand the hype. I felt the story was muddled and felt disjointed.

And yet I still requested a copy of Still Water from Netgalley and Simon & Schuster Canada and am really happy I gave Amy Stuart a second chance.

This book takes place shortly after the events of Blackmore, Clare and Malcolm arrive in High River to solve the case of a missing woman and her son. The woman, Sally, had left her abusive husband and was staying in a home for abused woman. Clare arrives and tries to convince police and the other women at High River that she is Sally's long lost friend, arrived to help find her.

Where "Still Mine" felt disjointed, this one really came together. Clare, still fighting her demons, comes into her own, finding strength while also trying to solve the case of Sally and her son William. Although her relationship with Malcolm is still shrouded in mystery, you finish this book knowing that book 3 in this trilogy will shed light on Malcolm's past and bring closure to Clare's marriage.

A well written and well developed mystery. I'm looking forward to reading book 3. If you read and enjoyed The Roanoke Girls, then I think you'll enjoy this.

Thank you Netgalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for providing me with an advanced copy in return for an honest review.

Still Water by Amy Stuart is the 2nd in the Still mystery series.

First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Simon and Schuster Canada, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Series Background:
Clare had been running from an abusive husband for a while when she met the private investigator that Jason had hired to find her. Instead of turning her in, Malcolm hired Clare to work with him to find other missing persons. Although Malcolm assures her that Jason is out of the picture, Clare knows that is not true.

My Synopsis:
Clare is still recovering from the bullet wound that she suffered while solving her first missing persons case with Malcolm. She is now undercover at a private women’s shelter, looking for a missing woman called Sally, and her two-year old boy Will. By all accounts, the two have drowned. But she’s not so sure. The house and family that Sally had been living with seems to have its own share of tragedy. The owner, Helen Haines, offers a safe haven to women who are hiding from abusive relationships. Women, and their children, are welcome to stay in her home as long as they need to. Helen inherited the house after her parents died. She was fifteen when her father shot her mother in front of her, and Markus, her younger brother shot their father. Baby Jordan slept through it all.

When Clare arrives with the story that she is looking for her friend Sally, she finds an odd assortment of people with ties to this house. Jordan became a lawyer and sees to all legal matters for the women that Helen takes in. Markus and his wife live on the other side of the river with their son. Ginny, Helen’s daughter travels between the house and college. Clare also questions the motives of the police who are investigating Sally’s disappearance. Something’s not right. It seems that everyone is hiding something, everyone is lying, and everyone has a hidden agenda.

Meanwhile, Clare is also starting to question Malcolm’s credibility. He hasn’t told her anything about his past, and although Clare knows he looked after her while she recovered from the shooting, that time is very foggy in her mind. She fears there is something serious that Malcolm is not telling her.

My Opinions:
Although I don’t actually like Clare much more than I did in the first book, this book definitely kept me entertained. Actually, I didn’t really like any of the characters other than Somers and Malcolm. I’m hoping that Clare will grow on me soon. I’m trying to find some redeeming qualities, and other than the fact that she does seem to care for the downtrodden, I still find her weak, needy, and selfish. Not good characters for the protagonist.

The book is a fast read, and it flowed smoothly, but I think there were a few “holes” in the storyline. Clare’s cover story was too fragile, and should not (for obvious reasons to the readers), have worked at all. As well, talking to someone on your cell and meeting friends in a town where you are hiding, and supposedly don’t know anyone….seems like questionable behaviour.

3.5 stars

After all that, I am still looking forward to the next book….hoping to find more about Malcom.

It was a pleasure to read the story of Clare's search for a missing woman and her young son. It was nice to see that Clare has learned from her past mistakes and has grown stronger as a result. Malcolm's secrets were brought to light which made the story even more intriguing. I look forward to reading book #3!

Still water is a novel based around a woman on the run named Clare and her quest to solve cases of other missing women. On this case Clare is working to find Sally and her son William who mysteriously disappeared in the little town of High River. When she arrives in High River to a women’s shelter of sorts run by a woman named Helen, Clare realizes that this little town is holding many more secrets then where Sally and William have gone.

I’m going to preface this review by saying, like many others, I didn’t realize this was a sequel and perhaps if I had I would have liked it more. That being said I did not like this book. I felt like I was being taken on a really slow car drive around the country and kept waiting for the car chase to break out but it never did.

Clare herself isn’t unlikable but also isn’t likeable. She was whiny and terrible at her job. I know, I know it was her second case give her a break blah blah I don’t care. Her “questioning” wasn’t subtle she my as well have said “I’m undercover and don’t know sally but could you answer my questions?”. Her “sneaking” should have been obvious to anyone in the story but apparently not.

Helen, although doing this amazing selfless thing of taking in battered women was awful. She was cold, rude, and most of all a terrible mother.

Seriously what the hell was with Malcolm? I'm assuming that when this author releases her third book it will be Clare trying to find Malcolm and uncover his secrets but my god he was such a cardboard cut out of the mysterious private investigator it was ridiculous. I didn't find Malcolm interesting, I didn't care about his life and honestly don't care if he comes back.

The "twist" if that's what we want to call it was not that interesting. Did I see it coming? no. Did it make any difference to the book that it happened? no.

Overall I wasn't overly impressed and I probably won't bother to read the third book in this series. ( but never say never right? )

The follow up to Amy Stuart's debut novel, Still Mine, this book shows a tremendous amount of growth in the author's writing and was a much more captivating storyline for our main protagonist, Clare. Taking place in High River, Alberta, Clare is masquerading as a missing woman's friend and is seeking to find out what happened to Sally and her son William. Did the local waters sweep them away ? Did they flee a domestic situation? Or were they both the victims of foul play?

The story did keep me hooked, but I felt I needed to suspend a certain level of disbelief at Clare's story and some other aspects of the storyline. However, I am even more intrigued as to what will happen next as more and more of both Clare and Malcolm's back stories were exposed in this installment.

Publication is set for May 8th

This story was excellent! A real page turner! I do feel like I missed out on a bit of the story where I have not read the first one, but it didn't keep me from enjoying it. It just makes me want to read the first book.
The Haines were a very interesting family to dig into and discover. A caring altruistic family set on saving troubled women on the outside, but full of pain, family feuds, and their own crazy drama on the inside. Which I suppose you would expect given their tragic family past. This book was more about them really, than about Sally. The disappearance of Sally was a side note almost, to both the Haines family drama and Roarke's personal side quest/vendetta. So many interesting storylines.
I can't comment too much on Clare as I am missing out on a lot of her characters background by having not read the first book. She came across as a little slow though. She was constantly asking questions, almost like the story was trying to clarify something for the reader that really didn't need clarifying. E.G. Ginny said to her "you're the first person to ask me that" and Clare asked "First person to ask you what?" Well probably the question that you literally JUST asked her. There were quite a few moments like that. It didn't take away from the story at all really, just a minor annoyance. It felt like the author thought maybe you didn't get it the first time so I'll repeat it for you.
There's some kind of love/hate thing going on with Clare and Malcolm that confuses me, but again, I haven't read the first book. I will be though. I want to read more about her and Jason, how Malcolm found her, how he started to fall for her, and how she started to realize he wasn't who he said he was.
I'm assuming there will be a third novel where we get to dig into and solve Malcolm's mystery and I am looking forward to it!
This book is definitely worth a read.

This book was really good however I did find out after I started reading it that it was a sequel so that made it a little confusing at some parts. The story is all about a woman running from her abusive husband and then she is hired to find another missing woman. Lots of twists and turns in this book but there was just something that made it difficult for me to follow and I think that getting the information from the first book would be the missing pieces that I need in order to full grasp what is going on. Pretty good read but I do suggest reading the first one "Still Mine" before you read this one. While I thought that the first half of the book was a little slow the last half just flew by and before I knew it I was finished. Not a bad book but not my favourite.

Thanks (?) to Netgalley and Simon and Schuster for the ARC copy. It was the first and possibly the last that I will get to review.

I was bored stupid by this book and had to push my way through to finish it in order to give it an "unbiased" review. I could have given up mid-way and I don't think anything would be different.

Cardboard cut-out characters that never interested me. A plot that was, at the same time, incomprehensible and unbelievable. And no one of interest to carry me through. I almost considered giving this one star but I thought that might be cruel.

And the inconsistencies! My lord. She's supposed to be "undercover" yet she goes unquestioned to meet a friend in town and gets a phone call on her cell from another friend? Please. One of her friends/readers should have pointed out the illogic of it all. And who cares anyway?

Sorry, but I haven't hated a book I've read to completion like this in a number of years.

I really enjoyed this book and the way it linked back to the river. There is something about the flow of water that is mesmerizing and that worked well with the language and flow of words.. The characters were interesting and well developed. They all had fully fleshed out personalities and you could tell who was who easily based on mannerisms and language used. I'd definitely look into reading other books by this author

Still Water is the second book in the series Still.

I enjoyed this book very much, more than the first in the series though that was good too.

In Still Water you learn more about Claire and Malcolm . You realize although Claire has not made the best decisions , how strong of a person she really is.

Claire and Malcolm have come to town, well everyone knows Claire is in town to investigate the disappearance of Sally and her son.

There are a lot of secrets in this town. Can Clare make her way through them

I am hoping for a third book in the series so I know what happens to Clare and Malcolm.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy.

Twists and turns you dont see coming!! Put this on your to read list.

A suspenseful story about a woman searching for a missing woman and her child, while running away from her husband. I wasn’t aware this was a sequel so it left me confused in a few places. It was still an intriguing story with lots of odd characters that left you guessing the outcome until the very end. * I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review *

This book was about a woman running away from her abusive husband, then hired to find other run away abused women by the man hired to find her, he has a past and hidden agenda. There was lots of lies and corruption going on all around her. I really enjoyed this book, I thought it was well written and can't wait to read more from this author.

Another great thriller from the author of Still Mine. Read it in two days. Highly recommend reading it. Helps to read Still Mine first but not necessary. Keep up the great writing, Amy!!

Not a bad story, would have made more sense if I'd realized it was a sequel!

Clare is a lady with a very odd job, she was hired in place of being ratted out to her abusive ex husband, by the detective that was hired to find her. She searches for missing women, by trying to blend into their lives, as before they went missing.

In Still Water, Clare has been put on the job to find Sally and her son William, vanished without a trace from a sort of halfway house for abused women. The people she meets there, and around the whole area, are kind of strange, but you have to love them, in their oddness. Sort of.

There's plenty of twists and turns, with double crossings and things I never saw coming (I'm not much of a mystery reader, so I probably had that against me, oops.) but all in all, it was a good ride! I'm pretty sure there's another book coming out after this, but I felt like it was a well contained book on its own, especially since it took me getting halfway through to find out that it was a sequel! Good stuff!
