Henry Garrison’s life has gone to hell in a handbasket courtesy of his A-List actress wife. The king of the courtroom loses his crown and is forced to start from scratch to salvage what’s left of his legal career.

Taylor Winston Hughes is the poor little rich girl. A reality show star who dumbs herself down for the camera until it almost kills her.

These two – they both have junk to hide. Strangers using each other’s bodies to momentarily forget their personal pain. A beautiful girl and a Sexy older man, what can possibly go wrong? An easy breezy affair and then they can each go their own way.

Except for a little problem called murder. Taylor’s best friend is dead and the prime suspect? You guessed it! Taylor. Only lawyer that can get her out of life in prison apparently is Henry.

Order of Protection dragged for me until almost halfway into it. The sexual chemistry between these two is on point. At times, I did find myself thinking that certain aspects of the story didn’t make sense to me. Yet the murder mystery of it was well written which kept me reading until the end.

Fans of Lexi’s previous series (Masters / Lawless) will get a big kick out of the character cameos sprinkled throughout. Being a fan of Lexi Ryan’s writing, I have high hopes for Book #2.

Another amazing book from Lexi Blake! You will recognize a lot of her other series characters that make appearances like the Lawless family for one. I love when authors have multiple series' out and find a way to tie them all or at least have characters appear in the other series. It helps me with the world building. Plus a new Lexi Blake series?? I'm SO there!!!

I love Win and her personality. She was done being a reality TV star with her friends and what it meant to be, especially since that wasn't her at all. When she met Henry, he didn't know who she was and she loved that. She liked being anonymous (sorta) and not living in the spotlight and as fodder for the tabloids.

This story has all the Lexi Blake goodness you've come to expect but also is different because it's delving into the world of reality TV, which I know can be daunting. I can't wait to read more of this series!!!

I have to admit I kind of though Henry was a bit of a jerk at first, then I loved him, then I thought he was a jerk again but when Taylor (Win) is accused of murder he steps up and made me fall in love with him. This story has everything we want in romance and it has lots of twist that will make you fly through those pages. I loved this story and since it’s book on of the series I am excited to read more about these characters.

Order of Protection pairs together a recovering alcoholic and an heiress/reality tv star who was also recovering from anorexia. That in itself really sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. These two seems more aware that they are at a point in their lives that getting involved in a relationship is a bad idea. But attraction wins all the time. In Order of Protection, readers get to know Henry and Win, they met while they were both recovering from the devastating effects of wrong decisions made. Henry lost everything when he got a divorce and turned to alcohol to make things appear better. A successful criminal lawyer in New York prior to his marriage to a Hollywood actress, he lost it all when his personal life imploded. Now divorced, broke and selling his childhood home to start up his career again, he wasn't ready for anything much less for Win. Win isn't just a graduate student on a break. She happens to also be known as Taylor Winston Hughes, billion-dollar heiress and former tv reality star whose brush with fame was more than her body could take. Now she's determined than ever to finish her degree and concentrate on what she does best charity work and living life the way she wants to without expectations from the public. But she never bargained for the sexy lawyer next door. What results is a romance that is poignant, at times lighthearted, extremely erotic and heartfelt. I quite liked how easy it was to read despite the gravity of the situation the protagonists were dealing with. A suspense-mystery subplot just added to the thrill of the romance, it was a great plot device to make sure Henry realizes how important Win is to him. Order of Protection is definitely worthwhile reading plus the secondary characters sound so intriguing you want to read on to the next book.

In typical Lexi Blake fashion, Order of Protection takes you on a rollercoaster of both action and feels. Just when you think you have things and people figured out, something happens to make you realize that you were only seeing what Lexi wanted you to see at that time. I love that about her books.

Henry and Win meet and form a connection while both pretending to be someone else. It's not a blatant lie on either part - Win is a former reality TV star who's bad girl persona and unhealthy environment contributed to a very painful downfall. Now, she's just trying to be normal, and to do that, she doesn't exactly tell Henry any of that, or that she's ridiculously rich.

Henry is a recovering alcoholic whose ex-wife all but destroyed his career as a criminal lawyer. He's taking some time away from his high-stress life to settle the affairs of his late grandfather and to pretend his career isn't almost in the toilet. When Win stumbles onto his stretch of beach on Martha's Vineyard, he's not The Monster of Manhattan, but just plain Henry - a neighbor who thinks she's fun and pretty.

But, then Win needs Henry's legal expertise and their true identities come to the surface. This was where the first surprise hit me. The Henry I loved in the first part of the book was nowhere to be found. The man in his place - the one who didn't appreciate being lied to, no matter what the reason - was horrible to Win. And I sort of hated him for a bit.

Lexi Blake is a master at tying her various series together in plausible ways. It was delightful to see characters from both her Lawless series and her Masters & Mercenaries series showing up in this book. McKay Taggart supplies bodyguards for Win when it becomes clear that her safety was in jeopardy. Henry's law firm partner is one Noah Lawless who is not the young teen as we last saw him. He's now a cocky, brilliant lawyer who is not afraid to use his family connections when it can provide helpful.

Lexi Blake excels at suspense, mystery and intrigue. The murder of Win's childhood best friend is only the tip of the iceberg as it appears that perhaps Win's life is also in danger. People who were once friends look to be enemies and people who were enemies become allies. It's a crazy awesome journey with plenty of heat on the side (after Win puts Henry in his place and he gets over his hang-ups like a grown-up). I'm looking forward to David, and especially Noah's, stories coming up in this awesome new series.

Yet another fantastic read from Lexi Blake, full of mystery, drama, suspense, romance, danger, and hot sex.

Order Of Protection is the first book in a new series by Lexi Blake and let me tell you, what a great way to start a new series. At the heart of this story is second chances, and I absolutely love the powerful message the story sends. Both Henry and Win are people struggling to not let their demons win, and they are so strong. I absolutely love the way they each talked about their struggles, Win with anorexia, and Henry with alcoholism. They each deserve better, they each are fighting for their lives, they each are fighting to make their lives better. I absolutely loved them.

Win is a young woman struggling to see her own worth and accept her own beauty. Life in Hollywood destroyed her, and while she managed to get out of it, she is still struggling with her need to please everyone. I loved her sass and her take-no-bullshit attitude towards Henry. There was a really powerful scene when she talked about her issues with self image and her eating disorder, and I am so glad it was there, because it showed just how far Win really got from the popular girl on the reality show that she was before the story started

Henry was an angry, defeated man when he is introduced to us. He's been sober for six months, but there's so much anger inside him, most of it aimed at himself. He might be angry at his ex, but he really is angry with himself. And not just angry, he's ashamed. I can imagine that losing control the way he did must have been really scary once he managed to realize what was going on. I wasn't really happy with how he dealt with finding out who Win was, but I understood it. He wasn't just angry at her, he was also scared he would fall off the wagon, and I kind of got his need to lash out. He also talks a little bit about his addiction, and again it was a really powerful scene.

The story is really fast paced and there's a lot of mystery and intrigue weaved in the story-line. A lot of questions are asked, and a lot of them find answers towards the end of the book. The villain turns out to be someone I didn't expect. I was shocked by the ending, though I guess I probably should have expected something like that from Blake. The sex was hot, the romance was sweet, and the pacing was just perfect.

I had a lot of fun reading this book, and being introduced to Henry, David, Noah and Margarita. I cannot wait to see what happens next in the series. All in all, Order Of Protection is a great series starter and I am excited for more.

“When you spread your legs for me, I’ll make a meal of you until you scream”

Well ladies and gents, I mean for any guys out there who’s a fan/reader of Lexi Blake, she has done it again. Every single time I read on of her books it seems like it’s the first time I’ , being introduced to her work because this woman delivers A+ writing with every single story that she tells. She introduces us to characters that you can’t help but to fall in love with. You will have no other choice but to be enthralled with the journey that she takes these individuals on. That was the case with Henry and Win.

“I don’t intend to get you off, sweetheart. That’s too juvenile a word for what I’m going to do to you”

Trust me when I say that sparks most definitely fly when it comes to Win and Henry. The chemistry between these two is more than electric, it’s like instant fireworks. Not only that but the funny banter that goes on between them brings such and awesome lightness to the story, because trust me when I say there are some dark parts. Of course Henry is every single I love in a male lead, all alpha male I will protect what is mine, attitude without coming off as being a jerk. This story also have some parts that will leave you choking back the tears but in the end Lexi Blake wraps it all up in a beautiful package with a lovely bow.

I know this will be one series that I look forward to, which means i will sit and wait for the next book in the series.

The first few pages of this story almost made me put the book aside because I thought it was going to be some snooze-fest about people with too much money and out of control actors acting out, but surprisingly it was not. It was more about two people who had hit rock bottom after rising so high and were trying to find their feet after the fall. When you combine that with decades-old secrets and murder, what you get is a really enjoyable story with lots of surprising twists and turns. Once I got into the story, it was kind of hard to put down and I finished it within a day!

Both Taylor and Henry understood each other so well because in their own way, they had scrapped the bottom of the barrel and the only way out was up, one day at a time.

Taylor was a really sweet character, very far from the demanding diva I expected when I started reading this book and it was quite refreshing. Henry on the other hand, was quite annoying and it's easy to see how much of a douche he was when he was at the top of his career. His quick assumptions and tantrums did not me very much a fan of his.

One of my favorite parts of this story is the growing friendship among the three guys and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. Overall, it was a really interesting story and a new tone from Ms. Blake.

One thing I'll say is that it's hard to not measure this book (and others) against the Masters & Mercenaries series, against which it falls short obviously, but on its own, it's still a really enjoyable story and for me, the budding friendship among the characters here reminds me of the M&M series, so I am excited about what the author has in store for David and Noah.

Confession? When I first started reading this story, and for the first few chapters I struggled to connect to the story. Not because it was badly written (I mean, come on, it’s Lexi Blake) but because it felt obvious.

I was wrong about that. Yes, there was some pretty unsubtle foreshadowing. But after the set up, this story really found its feet.

I enjoyed Henry’s turmoil. Win’s strength of character was unexpected. And together, you just want them to overcome their challenges.

There are some fictional liberties taken for the sake of the progression of the story, notably around the lack of addiction support for both Win and Henry.

But overall? A decent story, with an engrossing plot and engaging characters.

Order of Protection is the first book in Lexi Blake’s new Courting Justice series. She has woven together a page turning story filled with enough characters in play and plot twists that keep you guessing all the way to the end to figure out who the guilty party is.
Her main characters, Henry and Win, are both battling back from mistakes of their past. A surprise encounter brings them together and they agree their time together is only temporary, but fate has a different plan and they find themselves thrown together again for much longer.
This story takes you through a murder investigation as Henry, David and Noah along with a few of Lexi’s past characters, work on finding who really killed Win’s friend after she is arrested as the prime suspect.

Review:
This was an exciting start to this new series. Loved the whole mystery going on here. Crap! I want to let some plot points out, but I am going to try not to because I think the Author did a great job of throwing in some great surprises into the mystery surrounding Winnie. I will say that the mystery was very well-done, lots of misdirections. The story does have a resolution for Henry and Win. I did enjoy seeing characters from previous series in this book. I am not sure where the series is going, but I cannot wait to find out

Henry and Win....they are super sexy and really are great together. They do have a multitude of problems and obstacles to overcome on their way to a HEA. It was quite the ride though. Ms. Blake has a way with writing that really draws you in and makes you want to lose yourself in the story. Plus, she can write sexy like nobody's business.

Wonderful, wonderful start to this series!

It is always such an incredible treat to read a new Lexi Blake book. I know I'm going on an adventure each and every time.

Winnie ( Win) is trying to live her life as her true self. She wants out of the public eye and to be "normal". She's been to hell and back struggling with Anorexia. She's healthy and ready to be happy.

Henry Garrison is a recovering alcoholic and his career as the best and most ruthless lawyer in Manhattan is in shambles. He wants nothing more than to stay out of the limelight and get his career back on track.

I fell hard for Henry right from the start. I loved his open vulnerability at the beginning of the book. When he and Win get together he is so genuine with her. He messes up a little, but Win is too stubborn to be pushed away!

Lexi writes amazing heroines. They're full of sass and spunk. They're also incredibly smart and can take care of themselves. Win is no exception. I love how she teases Henry. She softens him.

When Win is accused of murdering her best friend she looks to Henry to help her. Here's where it gets sticky. Henry is pissed. Like, really REALLY pissed because of something he feels that Win lied about. He treats her like crap, but of course he still wants to bump and grind. The emotions that Lexi's writing pulled out of me during the scene in the police interrogation room was awesome! I was angry and heartbroken on Win's behalf. I could also understand Henry's crappy behaviour, even if it wasn't right.

I swear, nobody writes romantic suspense like Lexi Blake. I start to consider myself a bit of an amateur sleuth whenever I get immersed in one of her books. There's so many twists and turns. The clues keep coming, and I'm waiting on the edge of my seat to find out who the bad guy is!

This book is an amazing start to this brand spanking new series! David's story is next and I can hardly wait.

I liked this book! This is a standalone but does have characters from Lexi Blake's other series Lawless and Master and Mercenaries. The first part of the story moved rather slowly, but then the pace picked up around 45%. The characters were intriguing. There was a nice balance of failed relationships and successful ones to nuance the characters. The story line was suspenseful enough to keep you turning pages.

I have to admit that Henry Garrison was not a very likeable hero. He is a golden boy who fell from grace because of his alcohol addiction and his divorce. He is a famous criminal lawyer who takes on high profile cases and gets dragged through the mud along with some of his clients. He is ruthless, cold and single-minded. Only money and power matter to him.

Win Hughes, aka Billion-dollar baby, is a reality TV star. She was orphaned before she turned 2 and has inherited her family’s vast fortune. But money didn’t bring her happiness and she suffered from anorexia. Win is an endearing character, and has used her money and reputation to do a lot of good through her foundation.

Henry and Win don’t really like one another at first, they spend some vacation time together but neither is interested in a relationship. When Win is arrested and accused of killing her friend, Henry steps up to the plate. This book was a journey for both Henry and Win. It was amazing how they worked around the many obstacles that were in their way and got past them when the villain was exposed. It is what makes them stronger.

This was a great suspense story and I enjoyed seeing it unfold.

3.5 stars for - Order of Protection - book one in the Courting Justice series by one of my favorite authors - Lexi Blake. While I freely admit I had some in the beginning trying to get into this one but rest assured it did eventually pick up. Then when you add in LB's signature style of a lot of sexy, some dangerous bad guys, and members of M+M it turns out to be a good start to this brand new series.
Taylor Winston-Hughes better known as Win is a reality tv actress . Having lost her parents in an accident she inherited their corporation and money along with the stresses of losing them so young. Her coping mechanism just so happens to be something that could kill her but she hides her pain as best she can all while trying to maintain the façade people expect.
Henry Garrison is an attorney in Manhattan and is quite literally known as a monster - taking even the most dire of cases knowing his ruthlessness will suffice. Being married to an actress and in the spotlight was something he never minded actually even using those times to bring his law firm more business until it backfired on him spectacularly. While professionally Henry is at the top of his game, personally he was obliterated by his ex-wife in a messy, public divorce. Leaving Henry very bitter of many things and wanting no part of those spotlights again.
Can't wait to see what kind of trouble the other partners in this law firm are gonna get into next! Who knows maybe Ian can show up and save the day too :)

What a brilliant and exciting start to Lexi Blake's new Courting Justice series. This steamy romance had me on edge, nail-biting my way through several cleverly written plot twists and off-the-charts passion. A tumultuous relationship that began during a thunderstorm, Henry and Win's angst-filled journey set my kindle ablaze. Chock full of suspense, thrills, deceits and a couple with intense sexual chemistry, Order of Protection was a fantastic read.

Defense attorney Henry Garrison was quite the complex hero that had my head spinning with his broody hot-and-cold temperament. Known as "The Monster of Manhattan" this tough as nails lawyer's life was in a tailspin. A recovering alcoholic and recently divorced, he was struggling to piece himself and career back together. To top it off, Henry was riddled with relationship trust issues. Meeting the sexy Win during a terrible storm and agreeing to a short no-string-attached fling, led to an inexplicable instant attraction that he was frustratingly determined to avoid. Swoon-worthy and dominating in the bedroom, yet stubborn when it came to commitment, Henry was a challenging character - I both adored and disliked him throughout this read. In the end through Win's love and devotion, Henry managed to win me over.

Feisty, brazen and sassy, Taylor Winston "Win" Hughes was a perfect match for this hard-headed counselor. Looking for an escape, this uber-wealthy heiress was fresh out of rehab for anorexia and avoiding pressure from her disingenuous friends to return to a reality TV show. Trying to restart her life, she decided to shed her celebrity persona and introduced the real "Win" when first meeting Henry. However, when framed for her best friend's murder, there's no escaping her past. Representing her case, Henry discovers exactly who Win is, and the real monster came out as he treated her terribly at times. To say he had some difficulty with forgiveness and dealing with the revelation of all her secrets is an understatement. But through Win's compassion and dedication, Henry slowly evolved into an understanding and loving hero that I grew to adore.

This couple was explosive in every way. I loved their combativeness, their banter, and over the top heated passion. These two ignited inside and out of the bedroom making this salacious romance truly enjoyable. Blake is a crafty writer, weaving mind-blowing plot twists and mysteries within her novels that have me consistently anxious and on edge. Once again, I found myself lost in her gripping love story. This read had it all ~ lust, intensity, humor, lovable characters, treacherous villains, emotional moments and old friends from other favored series popping into the story-line. For fans of romantic suspense, this first in a new series is a must-read.

If you have read any of Lexi Blake's books you know you're in for a treat, not only does she give you likable characters with a great story line and the sexy times really can melt your kindle, she gives you great secondary characters that keeps you interested in wanting more and more from the series. Well, that is exactly what she has done with her new series Courting Justice, with this first book Order of Protection.

Win and Henry are each trying to overcome the damage they have done to their lives and they find solace in one another, but then something goes terribly wrong and Win is arrested for the murder of her best friend. As if that isn't bad enough, the secret that Win has been keeping from Henry comes out and wow does he take it bad....and that's putting it mildly.

This story held my interest from the first page right until the last, there was not skimming or skipping at any point. I cannot wait to see what happens next in the series when David, a former football star turned lawyer, gets his HEA. If you enjoy Lexi Blake I am sure you will enjoy this book, and if you haven't read any of her work before this is a great place to start. Happy Reading!

I'm a huge fan of Lexi Blake and exited to read this suspense filled romance.

The beginning of the book focused on Henry and Win's relationship. They spent a few weeks together but were able to go their own way at the end. It wasn't until Win ended up in the wrong place that they were able to reconnect.
Despite her situation Win was excited to see Henry. Henry however was a bit of a jerk. There were a few times that I wanted to slap him upside the head.
The romance was light in the second half of this book but I think the suspense more than made up for it. Three were plot twists that I didn't see coming! I loved the element of surprise.

Lexi Blake has done it again with her latest release, Order of Protection as she treats readers to a sexy blend of suspense, mystery, secrets, lies, deceit, and passion. With her sophisticated writing, she lures readers to be spellbound with her characters as showcases the strong connection and need they have for each other. With the strong chemistry of Win and Henry, Blake has readers like myself engrossed with the story as we discover who is behind the death of Win’s best friend’s murder and if Henry will be able to help Win out with the charges. So if you are looking for a book that deviously blends passion, romance, and suspense then this is the book for you.

3.75 stars--ORDER OF PROTECTION is the first installment in Lexi Blake’s contemporary, adult COURTING JUSTICE romantic, suspense series, a spin-off from the author’s LAWLESS series. This is thirty-seven year old, high-powered, defense attorney aka The Monster of Manhattan, Henry Garrison, and twenty-nine year old, former reality TV star/heiress Taylor Winston-Hughes aka Win Hughes’ story line. There is a slight cross-over with the author’s Masters and Mercenaries series with the inclusion of several security experts from McKay-Taggart.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Win and Henry) ORDER OF PROTECTION follows the acrimonious relationship between thirty-seven year old, high-powered, defense attorney Henry Garrison, and twenty-nine year old, former reality TV star/heiress Win Hughes, and the search for the truth. A month earlier, hiding from scandals that had become their lives, Henry Garrison and Win Hughes would spend several glorious weeks together on Chappaquiddick with the knowledge that their relationship was only temporary, and no-strings attached. Never having revealed to Henry the true identity about her past and reality TV, Win would return to civilization, only to be charged with the murder of her co-star Brie while attending a fund-raiser set up by her Uncle Bel. Enter Henry Garrison, who has been hired to defend our story –line heroine. What ensues is the caustic relationship between our leading couple as everyone struggles to uncover the truth.

Approximately twenty-seven years earlier, an infant Taylor Winston-Hughes was the lone survivor of an explosion at sea wherein her billionaire parents were killed leaving their only child the heir to a fortune but her personal life would become fodder for the news media naming her the Billion-Dollar Baby, that followed her the rest of her life. Quiet, shy, determined and beautiful Win is a recovering anorexic whose time spent on the gossip beleaguered, reality television show brought with it the demands of perfection and more. Working with Henry to solve the murder meant working with a spiteful, angry, and demeaning man whose inability to forgive and forget found our heroine on the receiving end of acidic barbs and accusations of murder from the man hired to work on her defense.

From the outset, recovering alcoholic and scandal plagued Henry Garrison finds himself attracted to his temporary neighbour, and his relationship and sexual attraction is palpable and sweet, but murder charges against, and the revelation of our heroine’s true identity turn Henry into a caustic, monster of epic proportions. Cynical and untrusting Henry is unable to move beyond the scandal that plagued his marriage to actress Alicia Kingman, a disastrous and fraudulent marriage that has blinded our hero to love and a happily ever after. For all intents and purposes Henry became the nightmare our heroine was trying to avoid.

The relationship between Henry and Win is plagued by Henry’s intolerance of the lies of omission, and secrets about our heroine’s past. Henry’s bitter comments and scathing treatment of Win Hughes borders on mental and emotional abuse for a woman already haunted by the events of the past. Win is a sweet, sassy and intelligent heroine whose reactions to our hero’s abusive treatment are rather calm and emotionless under the circumstances. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and impassioned.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and dynamic secondary and supporting characters including several cast members of the reality TV show Kendalmire’s Way-Brie Westerhaven, Hoover Kendalmire, and Kipton Keever; Win’s uncle Bellamy Hughes, her cousin Trevor, and nanny Mary Hannigan; an assortment of security and investigation specialists from McKay-Taggart; attorney Margarita Reyes, and Henry’s legal partners David Cormack, and Noah Lawless of Garrison, Cormack and Lawless.

ORDER OF PROTECTION is a detailed and complex story line with a couple of twists revealed at the very end. The premise is engaging, entertaining and edgy; the romance is dramatic and provocative; the characters are spirited, startling and animated but saying that Henry’s abrasive, antagonizing and ill-tempered treatment of our story line heroine is offensive until the very end; the character portrayal of Henry is questionable-he is not a likeable hero but more of an anti-hero; redemption is difficult. ORDER OF PROTECTION is a well written, thought-out story of suspense with an energetic cast of characters.
