Third in Galen's new series "The Survivors" this book is set in England shortly after the Napoleonic War. As there are twelve members of this club, may we hope for twelve books? No spoilers. A well-written, historical romance with great detail and character building. 3 out of 5 stars.

***ARC received for an honest review***

I’ve heard such good things about this author, and I was excited to break away from the Sarina Bowen and dive into an historical with an exciting plot.

Rafe is a slutty boy spy who sleeps with women to get info. Collette is trying to rescue her father through a convoluted plan of getting some kind of cipher from Rafe’s boss. I didn’t necessarily understand that. Rafe is super gorgeous. Collette is so shy around him she seems disinterested. They’re both secretly trying to get info from one another and lying to each other.

I didn’t love Rafe. Just not my kind of hero. Also - collette made bad decisions. Repeatedly. And I couldn’t work out the nuances of what they were trying to do. Plus I dislike lying as a plot device.

It wasn’t poorly written. I could see how this book could be fun - if you’re not me.

<b>”Here he was saying everything he vowed he would never say to a woman, and she didn’t even believe him. The irony was poetic.”</b>

I love Rafe story. Rafe is the seducer in Survivors club. His job during the war was to seduce influence woman whose husbands worked for the enemy.

This is the third installment of Shana Galen’s Survivor series. The plot centres on Rafe, a spy for the English government and Collette a spy for the French but working under duress. Collette is expected to find a code that will help her father who is being held in prison. This was a sweet regency romance and a quick read.

This was a delightful Regency intrigue with characters involved in a relationship all the while spying on each other.

Rafe Beaumont has been a spy for the English government for some time, using his charms to persuade women to give up their secrets. But he isn't sure of his ethics when he is told to spy on the daughter of one of the most notorious French assassins that plagued England during the war with France. For her part, Collette Fortier is being forced to spy for the French regime that holds her father hostage. She is seeking the code needed to translate a letter that may exonerate her father and realizes that Rafe may be just the person she needs to find the code.

Rafe is unexpectedly charmed by the unprepossessing Collette, who tends to quote from a book on the love life of hedgehogs when she gets nervous. This adds the lift of humor to the drama about two spies who find themselves attracted to each other at a time when such attraction can be incredibly dangerous. Can they find a way to avoid the gallows and still have a relationship?

The plot twists and turns keep the story captivating and the characters are both likable and believable. The setting feels authentic for the time period and it was refreshing to find a heroine who is not a ravishing beauty, but who's attraction grows on her hero.

This is the third instalment in Shana Galen’s Survivor series. I have read the previous instalments in this series but each one can be read as a standalone.
The men in this series served together during the Napoleonic Wars under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Draven in a unit that was given dangerous and most often suicidal missions. What was once a company of thirty ended with twelve, nicknamed ‘Draven’s Dozen’. The focus of this book is Rafe Beaumont, fifth son of an earl.
Rafe is the forgotten child in his family. He learned from a young age he could charm women and he could never turn a woman down, even if he wanted to. His role in Draven’s company was to seduce the woman in his enemies lives to reveal their secrets. When he is tasked to discover more on the mysterious Colette he is shocked to find a woman immune to his charms.
Collette Fortier, has been tasked by the French to discover the secret codes the British used in the war. Her aim is to get close to anyone connected to Draven. Rafe is a distraction she does not need if she wants to save her father’s life. Will she be able to resist Rafe and will he turn against her when he discovers her secrets?
While I have been greatly impressed with the previous books in this series, this book was a let down for me. While there is nothing I can say was wrong with the book, it just didn’t have the same magic as the others. I would still recommend it as a good book but start with the previous books. The author is capable of so much more.

Doesnt it tell you everyting that I went through this book in one day? I loved 95% of it and I wont talk about the other 5% .
Rafe is the perfect seducer but the one he wants to seduce is immune towards all his avances. It's a game they start to play, quite a Shakespearean play.

Just lovely! I really enjoyed watching Rafe's confusion when his regular methods don't work and he has to find a new way. Full of humor and emotion and also very sweet. I'm impressed with how different each of the stories in this series has been.

3.5 stars

I read this book a couple weeks ago and honestly not much of it stuck with me other than how amusing it was that whenever Collette would get nervous she would start spouting random facts about the mating habits of hedgehogs. I also liked Rafe's friends and seeing the banter amongst them. It does make me want to go back and read the first two books in the series.

It was by no means a bad book but it's not likely to be one I would read again.

I thoroughly enjoy this series and this book didn't not disappoint. Rafe Beaumont, fifth son of an earl, is charged with a new mission: capture an elusive assassin by seducing his daughter. It shouldn't be too hard because Rafe had used his seduction skills well in the war. However, Collette Fortier seems immune to his flattery. Against everything he knows, Rafe must try to earn Colette's trust by becoming her friend, something that has never happened to Rafe before.

Ms. Galen leads the reader on another exciting and intriguing adventure between Rafe and Collette. Their chemistry is palpable although neither one of them wants to succumb to the other for reasons entirely their own. Collette must retrieve the mysterious English code to trade for her father's life and Rafe must guard his heart against falling in love. Can he have the woman he wants and not betray his country? That's the dilemma facing Rafe. The story doesn't wrap up until the last page--no spoilers here. I can't wait to read the next story in the series.

I received a copy from NetGalley; this is my honest review.
-This is a story with lots of adventure and suspense up until the very end.
-There are also many LOL moments and sadder parts too.
-The chemistry between Rafe and Collette is palpable and reflects in the love/sex scenes.
-It also shows, painfully, that what happens in our youth often marks how we behave later in life.
-It was good to see The Survivors working together yet again.
-Don't miss out, buy the book! This one was really hard to put down.

This book has made me cry, because of a children's story, then I would burst out laughing, when Colette would become nervous, and out would come her knowledge of mating hedgehogs! Shana Galen is at the top of her Genre! Rafe, one of Colonel Draven's men, is not your typical hero, compared to the other men, he cannot fight his way out of the Proverbial wet bag! However, he stands 10 feet tall, the way he truly saves Colette, and himself, is what we all truly want, he sacrificed everything for the woman he loved! I appreciate Shana Galen and Netgalley for allowing me to read this early, I have bought it on pre order, as usual!
I highly Recommend! Thank you! Enjoy!

I loved reading Rafe's story! He is too funny when he wonders what the heck is happening to him! I admire Collette for doing what has to be done to survive. I always enjoy reading about a strong heroine. I can always count on a good read from Shana Galen and I look forward to the next in this series. I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
