A good little novel, quite short and fast paced with an engaging if a little unbelievable storyline. Kept me hooked and read in one day

This book was just an okay read. Although there were a few twists in it the story overall was quite predictable and did not keep me interested.

Excellent psychological thriller! It moved at a fast pace with twists and turns throughout! Well-developed characters and plot. Highly recommend!

When Sophie Weeks has an officer at her door late at night she knows its not good news. Her brother, his wife and young daughter has been murdered. Her parents had died years before so she is all by herself. The police think her brother killed his family and then killed himself. She doesn't think he would do this and she wants to write a book to prove his innocents.
The main character has a lot of soul searching .It makes you think how would you handle this situation. I enjoyed the book.

Final Goodbyes was a fun read. I read this story several months ago and must have forgotten to review it. Sophie's love for her brother does not allow her to believe that he would have ever killed his family. Sophie moves to her brother and sister-in-laws home close out their estate after their deaths. There seems to be someone or something that will not let her rest and the longer she stays the more convinced she is that her brother is innocent of the horrible crime he is accused of.

I'll admit to taking a while to finish this book. I kept putting it down to read something else. But it's really short, so it seemed a shame not to finish it to see how it ended. I was expecting a ghost story based on the synopsis. It's not even a thrilling thriller. The ending was a bit predictable. It wasn't a badly written story, it just wasn't what I was hoping for.

It has potential, and some twists. The shortcomings of this book lie in some dialog that needs a bit of tweaking. If you put that aside the story is pretty good. I'm pretty sure I have an ARC - so I'm not going to be harsh on the grammar or editing in hopes that it will have a good bit of tweaking coming up. I like a good "who done it" mystery and this book lived up to that part.

My copy came from Net Galley. My thoughts and opinions are my own. This review is left of my own free volition.

A good story but the grammar is quite bad and needs tightening up. The characters were likable and it was a good storyline but unfortunately, the bad grammar was just too much for me. Otherwise, I would have credited this book with more stars.

Description
Sophie Weeks is trying to come to terms with the horrifying murders of her brother and his family. In an attempt to find closure Sophie moves into her brother's old home. Little did she expect the nightly horrors she is about to encounter.

My Thoughts
The police bring Sophie some tragic news. Her brother Ben, his wife Lisa and their daughter Susie are dead and the preliminary evidence suggests that Ben murdered his family before committing suicide. Thought not recently close to Ben, Sophie cannot fathom any event where Ben would hurt his family, so she knows someone else must be responsible.
Sophie wasn't in a particularly good place emotionally before this event. Her job isn't fulfilling and she spends way too much time in bed, only rising when she knows her boyfriend Alan is coming over. Some cruel words overheard at work make her decide to move into Ben's house so she can monitor the police investigation, do some sleuthing of her own and find the real killer(s). An ambitious plan and one that quickly goes awry when strange noises and occurrences start happening in the house. Could the house be possessed or is the real killer not yet done? There was a good amount of suspense surrounding the crime and ultimately Sophie does discover the truth. Not a book that had me furiously flipping pages to find out whodunit, but a quick read that held my interest.
Thank you Signe Christensen, BookBuzz.net and NetGalley for the digital copy to read and review. 3.5 stars

I could not get into this. The 'story' just didn't seem to flow. It felt more like point form paragraphs than an actual story. It began sort of strange and just threw me off right away. Hopefully others will enjoy this but I did not. A positive though, I do like the cover.

Final Goodbyes by Signe Christensen is a crime story about a Sophie, who loses her brother and his family to a devastating crime.
She gets the news late at night, with police believing that her brother murdered his wife and child and then killed himself.
Sophie refuses to believe that this is what happened and is determined to uncover the truth and prove that her brother was not a murderer.
With her personal relationship with boyfriend Alan breaking down, the devastation Sophie feels pushes her away from him more.. After overhearingsome horrific gossip at her job, Sopie quits her job, and moves to her brother’s home, to sift through her thoughts, and write the longed for book she has been wanting to write, with the topic her brother and proving his innocence.
Not long after arriving, she starts hearing strange noises at night, and strange things begin happening. After finding a handprint, Sophie convinced the local police to help, and the mysterious intruder does come out.
I did enjoy this book, felt that the writing was a little novice, but the a great storyline kept you wanting to continue reading. This book does not look like it was proofread, quite a lot of errors, but if that’s fine tuned, it is overall a good read and I encourage the author to write more and soon.

I found the book very slow in the 1st half. So much so i could easily have given up and walked away. Thankfully I didnt and it did pick up. It picked up speed and was very good read but had to mark down due to 1st half

This book had so much potential. I was interested with the premise ever since I read about the synopsis. A woman finds out her brother and his family died in a gruesome attack. His wife and daughter were murdered brutally (though it wasn't very described the exact nature of their deaths) and the man hung himself alongside them. Or so it seems...

I tried my best to like this book, but I just couldn't. The main problem I had with the book was its writing. No offence, but it genuinely didn't feel like a real book. The writing felt like a random 100-something page novel a teenager made up on some midnight just to complete an English assignment, and then never editing it afterwards. The author did too much telling and not enough showing, which is the number one mistake that was immediately noticeable by the reader, me. I also could feel the repetition, the unnecessary description of things that shouldn't even be mentioned, yet leaving out other important things that should be mentioned. The main character's thoughts would suddenly drift off during an action. There was a scene early in the book when the main character punched a table and hurt herself. She felt pain, and then took a frozen pizza package to cool down her apparently broken hand. Then she proceeded to think about how on movies they would usually use a package of frozen peas. And then a few hours later, she went to the hospital and had to go through a bunch of tests and x-rays and it turns out she had fractured bones and she went home the next day with a cast on her palm. Was it important to the story? Necessary to be even discussed for more than one page? No, but it was in the book anyway.

There wasn't enough of anything for me to keep going. On thrillers and mysteries, I expect an intriguing mystery, something that always keeps you on the edge. I want a story to develop, clues to be revealed to the character and therefore to the reader, one by one, slowly. In here there wasn't much going on, added to the fact that none of the characters were very interesting or dimensional. I gave up reading it after trying for around a quarter of the book.

Added to that was the misspelling, wrong grammar and punctuation, and many other little things that just bug me as a reader. So unfortunately, this was not a good book for me, and I'm sad to say that I had to DNF it.

#FinalGoodbyes by Signe Christensen

Oh what a shame! This is a book with so much promise that unfortunately goes all wrong in the end. Even with 95% read I thought it still would end with one of those surprise endings and unfortunately I was proven wrong. The story is very interesting with Sophie as the main character and her boyfriend Alan who is not portrayed as more than reliable and Sophie thinks that his job as an accountant is very boring. Not that she has such a glamorous job being a secretary in an engineering company with nowhere to go. The main story is Sophie trying to find out who killed her brother and his wife and little daughter. The daughter and her mom have been stabbed and had their throats slashed while the brother is found hanging from a beam in the garage. The police right away rules it suicide/murder and are about ready to close the case when Sophie decides to move into their house and try to clear her brother’s name. Things are going well with creepy neighbors and other people who could be involved. Strange things are happening around the house particularly in the garage. As the story comes to a close, all of a sudden someone from one of the earlier chapters appears on the scene (I had to do a word search on Kindle to refresh my memory). Well I am sure I don’t need to say anything further. In a few pages the deaths are solved and the book done. It had the chance to become great but it seems like the writer got tired of writing and just ended it there. I can’t recommend this book. I received it from #NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review.

I found this book to be a little disappointing. The story line was good but the characters lacked depth. The story is about a woman called Sophie Weeks. She finds out that her brother is found dead and his wife and daughter murdered in their garage. The story follows her struggle to prove that her brother didn't kill his wife and daughter and then hang himself. The author didn't describe their appearance, personality etc The story was fairly predictable and I didn't get a real sense of grief from the main character. There was a lot of potential but the book failed to fully deliver. I received this book as free to review. #finalgoodbyes #netgalley

Thank you to Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review "Final Goodbyes" by Signe Christensen. While I liked the general idea behind this story, nothing about it was truly memorable. There were small grammatical error throughout the book that continued to distract me from the story. The story centers around Sophie Weeks who must deal with finding out news about her brother being hung and his family being murdered. Sophie decides to stay in his home and find clues to prove his innocence. Sophie experiences odd events while staying in her brother's home.

Sophie is devastated to hear that her brother and his family have been found dead. What's worse is that her sister-in-law and 5 year old niece have been brutally murdered and the police believe her brother is their killer and that he took his own life to escape the consequences of his crimes.
Sophie feels strongly that the killer is still out there and she will not rest until she uncovers the truth with or without the help of police.
This was a suspenseful mystery/thriller. I enjoyed it although I felt the dialogue could benefit from a bit of editing and an occasional use of contractions to make it more natural sounding.

This book was just barely a passable read. It had a strong start but unfortunately went downhill. Sophie began to annoy me the more I read. It's highly unlikely that I will read other books by this author.
