This was a fun book to read with some fabulous images that are nice and bright!
The story was easy to follow and there are some great characters and I loved the ending too!
A good, fun read – 4 stars!

A simple moral, easily told in cartoonish, graphic novel-styled design, but not really the greatest book out there. I liked the lesson in being happy with your lot, and not having grand designs when you don't need them, but I couldn't swear at the book's success at getting it across. Also, the characterisation, where the fisherman is definitely French and the tourist assuredly American, is a bit dodgy.

Lovely, hilarious book! Heinrich Boll is a genius! No one ever wants to see any one content with their life, the constant rush, rush, rush to get ahead and have more, more more! Why do we need so much?
Great read! Kiddos may not understand it, but the adults reading it will! Solid 5 star. If I could rate it high I would.

I'm not sure that a younger child will quite understand the moral of this story, but as a parent I appreciated it. The story line was also interesting and we really enjoyed the pictures. The comic book-feel to many of the pages was a nice touch too.

An enjoyable read. I loved the simplicity of this story, and the vibrant colors the illustration choose to work with. What a wonderful book!

I instantly feel the nostalgia of my childhood, sitting on the library floor, reading the Adventures of Tintin. The Fishing Lesson has vibrant colored illustrations. It is organized like a graphic novel, with panels and borders. A clever use of text, dialogue, motion lines, and onomatopoeia expressions to keep the reader present in this small moment story. There is tourist humor that feels genuine (living in Maine, I have an understanding first hand) that still gives the tourist some slack. The tourist in this story has many big ideas of how the fisherman could spend his time, and how the new time commitment (all of his time) would lead to an increased bounty...and an excess of resources....and then. While the fisherman seems to have it already figured out, the tourist might have the same ending goal in mind all along. You could pair this with a book like More for some critical conversations about wants and needs and resources like time and happiness.

A, colorful cartoony tale told in comic-book-style panels. Tourist with clicking camera in fishing village disturbs a resting fisherman in his rowboat. The fisherman gives the well-meaing but insensitive tourist an account of his recent, magnificent catch--leading to the tourist's grand musings of how successful and rich the fisherman could become if he only went out to fish again. Cute.

This is just an old joke, but a good one and I enjoyed reading it.

A tourist sees a sleeping fisherman and wonders why he’s not out fishing. Taking him for lazy, he builds an elaborate fantasy of wealth. I knew where this was going, as this is a story I’ve heard before, albeit much simpler. That being said, most kids probably haven’t, and the illustrations of course add to it. The first one looks like something out of Escher, with orange fish, but after that they’re brightly colored.
In this world the click of a camera is a hostile sound, so as a photographer I take offense to that, but it’s still well done.

I loved the simplicity of “The Fishing Lesson” and I hope the tourist understood the message!

I really enjoyed this title. It's a wonderful book to read to elementary and preschool children. It's imaginative and perfect for young storytellers. When the tourist interrupts the fisherman taking a nap, I had no idea the journey I would embark on, but it was a fun ride and I loved the way it ended. The illustrations were perfection and it was fun to see the fisherman in each new environment. It is sure to delight young readers and listeners.

First off, the illustrations remind me of the Simpsons. And I love them. A local fisherman is napping in his boat when a tourist interrupts with the snapping of photos. The Tourist starts telling the fisherman how to grow his business. But in the end it will be the Fisherman who has the last word. I loved this book. I think a few more adults need to read this title. Simply wonderful.

There is an old joke about a tourist trying to persuade a fisherman to work harder.

The punch line, is, that if he works hard, all his life, he can retire and going fishing in the very village that the tourist is visiting.

It is a good joke, and the book plays on it.

And a good lesson for kids, I suppose, that perhaps life isn't all about unbridled ambition, to get to their final goal.

Not sure how tis would play with most industrialized countries.

Cute enough presentation.
