A good book on how to become more sustainable without becoming too “crunchy” as my mom likes to call it. I enjoyed how the author made the information accessible and easy to read. Sometimes eco-themed books can come off as preachy but this one didn’t. If you’re looking for a quick, easy read on making your lifestyle more sustainable, than this book is a good place to start.

I didn't even get past the first few chapters of this book, but boy do I have a lot to say about it.

What really drew me to this book was the gorgeous cover. When I read the synopsis, I thought that I would be the perfect audience for this book. I was absolutely wrong. From the start, the book comes off as pretentious, and has a very "I did it before it was cool" vibe.

This author name drops like crazy, and she even has a small section that gives a shout out to Beyoncé...why? Because apparently Beyoncé encourages people to recycle, use public transit, and other "green" things that I am sure she does not do herself.

I was also thoroughly disappointed that there were not more pictures inside the book. Because the cover is so gorgeous, I assumed that the rest of the book would have equally artistic gems spread throughout. Instead, the pictures were few and far between. Most are portraits of the author in various sensual poses showing off her Ecoconscience attire.

The author makes it abundantly clear that she coined the term "ECOrenaissance" and uses the word as much as possible. I kept hearing Regina George on a loop in my head saying, "STOP trying to make ECOrenaissance happen. It's NOT going to happen." The word is just too mouthy and difficult to spell, and I doubt that it is going to catch on.

I will say that I admire what the author is trying to do, and fundamentally I agree with most of the contents of this book, however, I thought it was too much of a vanity piece, at least at the start, and I quickly became bored reading it. Perhaps the content gets better later in the book, but I just could not bring myself to finish it.

This is okay at best. I'm not a fan of books that utilize brand names to try to encourage certain lifestyle choices, especially when it's supposed to lead to an overall greener outlook. I also felt that this is for a specific audience and not every reader will be able to use the advice.

I wasn't super impressed with this book. It is a lot of ideas centered on mindfulness, awareness, and solutions that cost a lot of money. These don't seem very accessible for the average person.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

As someone who is trying hard to lessen my eco footprint, and that of my family's this was a great book with ideas and history on it without sacrificing our current ways of living.

First look: the cover absolutely drew me in. I felt that it was absolutely gorgeous and simple. A perfect reflection of what is to be found inside ECOrenaissance.

This book shares six key sections that are touched upon and encouraged in this book: art, food, wellness, beauty, fashion, and business and how they each tie into each other. Essentially, while you may begin in being more eco-friendly in one "spoke" it will eventually lead to being more eco-friendly in another. This line of thinking absolutely made sense to me because I have found it to be true myself. Along with those topics there are bits and bobs from inspirational individuals as well as manifestos, quotes, pillars, and sources. The goal is to be more aware of what goes into each of those and ensure that it is not harmful to the environment. For the most part, I feel that the author did a decent job of research. The style of writing was easy to follow and understand. While I did find a lot of neat and encouraging information, I also felt a little pressured to buy from certain businesses or visit certain websites.

All in all, I do feel that I sort of felt this book was helpful. The key takeaways were great and I did write quite a few notes down in my journal!

Zaroff's ECOrenaissance: A Lifestyle Guide for Cocreating a Stylish, Sexy, and Sustainable World is a nice primer on greenliving for the beginner and those interested in learning more about a more eco-friendly way of life. The author observes that we are in the midst of an ECOrenaissance in the six modalities of art, food, wellness, beauty, fashion, business, and beyond. Society is becoming more conscious of our carbon footprint and how we impact the world. Though this book may be more geared for a GOOP afficionado, it is a solid effort full of resources to help us on our path towards reaching the ECOrenaissance. I especially enjoyed the interviews from the ECOpreneurs and Zaroff's suggestions.

Unoriginal information and definitely biased. While some of the info she provides is true and useful, it felt like an ongoing list of her favorite brands mixed with flat interviews. Definitely better books out there about eco driven lifestyle adoption.

ECO Renaissance by Marci Zaroff

This book is a game changer. I was given a review copy by Simon & Shuster, and am now a huge fan of Marci Zaroff. This lifestyle guide focuses on creating a world that is not only sustainable but also stylish and sexy all at the same time. From vacation spots to Eco-friendly clothing labels and food, this book has it all. Short interviews with notable people leading the way in this revolution include Amber Valetta, Rosario Dawson and Stella McCartney.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced review copy.

ECOrenaissance is advice on greenwashing your life, which is a highly popular topic with very little actual concerns for the environment. The uncomfortable aspects of leading an eco-friendly life (reduce travel, shop hyper-local, use less, buy less) are left out of this book, in fact the author suggests traveling more, shopping online, using more, and buying more. Just another capitalist approach to "eco" living.

This book was one I picked up because I was truly curious as to the environmental aspects of fashion. As a fashion lover, I already try to be conscious of the environment by buying my clothes from second-hand stores most of the time. I really enjoyed this book because it presented detail environmental information as well as strategies that anyone can use to keep the environment in mind in the beauty portion of their life. It is really important for these types of texts to exist, especially in the times we live in. With the president pulling the United States out of the Paris Agreement and denying that climate change exists, it is important for citizens to be informed and making decisions that benefit the environment. The cover of this book is beautiful as well and I would definitely purchase it as a gift for my friends.
