This book would make a great book for young children learning about different careers. It would especially be a great book for kids of Police officers.

The title of this book quite clearly explains the story. The child's mum is a police officer and the books talks about some of the tasks that their mum has to do on a regular basis in their job - this includes managing traffic (to be honest I am in the UK where the book is set and this rarely happens! I did feel that some of the tasks are a little old fashioned and they do get involved in exactly the same tasks as men - my husband works for the Police Service). It is nice that it does have the main character for the book as the mum to show that women can be police officers as well as men and the images are nice enough but I felt it lacked a little bit of story/content for me - 3 stars

Children fear that their parents, when they leave, will never come back. Imagine what that must be like for young children, whose parents do dangerous jobs? In this very simple picture book, the child of a female police officer, explains what her mother does at work every day.

Here is a picture explaining that police officers help lost children.

Good for children with both fear of parents not returning, as well as children that might be afraid of the police. Very reassuring and calm.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

A good book for a young child, to explain the role of the police officer. I think sometimes police officers can be seen by young children as being 'scary', so this book may help with that viewpoint. It shows that the role of a police officer is varied, however I was a bit surprised to see that police officers apparently tidy up a lot of mess?! I understand this is a children's book but that idea couldn't be further from the truth!

I liked that the text was bold and clear and made use of all of the white space on the page facing the images, and the illustrations were quite different to what I've seen before.

The title is pretty clear on what this is about.
I like that the kid says “The sun is still asleep.” Adorable. Also adorbs is grandma plays cops and robbers with him, and when the boy looks incredibly happy when Mom—I mean, Mum—calls, and I can’t help but notice it’s not on a cell phone.
Very diverse police force; even the K-9 unit is represented. Mom is shown doing traffic duty, and there’s a pigeon at her feet mimicking her arm motions. There’s a list of jobs police do, although I’m sure they’d rather not include paperwork. Even more so, the last job shown is cleaning the street with a broom; the union’s gonna have something to say about that. . .
The artwork is almost modern Impressionistic, with thick brush strokes. Beautiful in its own way.

Amazing!! We need books about females and mums. We are not just our job and we are not just a mum. We can be anything!!

A really lovely book, both in terms of writing and illustrations, about the role a mother (or indeed a father) plays to inspire their child. It does a fantastic job of describing the varied work that a police officer carries out, and celebrates how proud children can be of their parents for the good work they do.

Would happily recommend this one!

My Mum the Police Officer by Isabel Girgis is lovely book and brilliant for Pre-school children. This book offered great Illustrations and they went well with the story. Plus, can make a good discussions between other children in the classroom about where their parents work and do for a living etc.

This is a cute title for preschoolers. Through a young boy, we learn all the jobs his mother does as a uniformed police officer. The illustrations are good and support the story.

I loved this story! It does an excellent job showing how a sweet and loving mum is a police officer. It shows the helpful and kind moments often overlooked in our law enforcement's days! Great read for early readers.

Mother is a uniformed police officer. She works on a team and does various things. It’s a nice introduction. Personally I did not like that the first thing a lady cop was doing is directing traffic, but there were other examples that I thought were better. At first I didn’t like the illustrations, but they grew on my as I turned the pages. They are not typical children’s book illustrations. They have more depth and scope. And this quality… Over all a nice book that show a woman can be a police officer.

My Mum the Police Officer is a cute book about a child's perspective of what his mother does at work. I like that it is his mum and not his dad. This book was written in Britain, so you might have to explain some of the phrases to children in North America. There is also a teddy bear dressed as an English Bobby that makes several appearances in the story. It might be fun to look for him on every page, even though he might not be there. The only thing I wondered about was when it talked about police officers cleaning up after accidents. I do not believe that is part of their job here, it is usually fire fighters or city workers that clean up depending on what the mess is. This would make a good book to use when learning about Community Helpers or when discussing types of jobs children might like when they are older.
