Softhearted is the second in the series of the Bluebonnet women. The series deals with three women who became foster daughters of Aunt Blu: Jill, Heather, and Trenton. This book was a lot better than the first book. Not that the first book was bad, but Softhearted took me on a journey between Waylon and Heather’s relationship and just sucked me in.

Heather is in charge of creating all the landscaping for Jill and Cal’s wedding (from Hardheaded). Heather is at somewhat of at a lose with her life after the merger of the construction companies due to the TV show. She is happy to be creating the dream landscape that she once drew up with her mother, but is unsettled as to what she really wants to do in life.

Waylon is the ranch manager and has his own troubled past. There are many rumors running around about Waylon cheating people out of money and being wild.

Heather has a thing for “gingers,” especially ones that look like Prince Harry and Waylon fits the bill. Heather is notorious for choosing users and tries to avoid Waylon at all costs. Heather sees that there is more to Waylon than a good nature fun loving guy. When she finds out he has a daughter and is trying to get full custody back from her grandparents, she falls a little harder. Waylon is trying to be the best father he can be despite mistakes he has made in the past that may interfere with the custody hearing.

One scene in particular brought me to tears and it had nothing to do with Heather and Wayon. A couple of days before the wedding, the three women along with Aunt Blu gather in the Jill’s she-shed. Their conversation revolves about how things are changing.

Softhearted just pulled me into the story where I really felt for the characters and cared about what happened.

A great addition to this series! The story line is well written and grabs you from the start. The characters have great interactions throughout as Heather and Waylon journey to find their place in life and true happiness. The road is not always smooth but love is worth every bump you encounter along the way. Great read, don't miss out.

Softhearted is the second book in the Deep in the Heart series. Heather has a bad track record with men. She falls in love easily, but it never works out. Now she is concentrating on her career and the large project she agreed to. Even though she occasionally doubts herself, she knows what she is doing. She just has to believe in herself. Waylon is the new guy on the farm. He seems to have some secrets, and Heather can't help but be curious even as she tries to steer clear of him. When they find themselves working together, each of them can't help but be drawn to the other. Is what they have been looking for right in front of them? I really enjoyed reading Heather's story. I definitely recommend this book.

Kim Law is a wonderful author! I love her characters and the traces of humor in them. The characters and storylines are well developed! And who can resist a Prince Harry look a like! Any time a child is added to the plot it just brings even more delight! I always look forward to her new books! This is a great weekend read!

This is a fantastic addition to the Deep in the Heart series. It's the second book in the series but it's easily read standalone. Heather are Waylon are great characters and their story will definitely leave you smiling. The book is wonderfully written and definitely one for the must read list.

Heather has had it with romance. She may love to be in love but her track record proves she never gets it right. She may be attracted to the new ranch manager but no. Just no! Waylon Peterson may be nice, swoon worthy and possess those Prince Harry good looks (Heather's kryptonite) but she has to stay strong and resist him. Yet the more she gets to know him the more she wants him and it's clear Waylon feels the same way. Is he worth taking a chance on??

I highly recommend this one.

I am loving this series and can't wait to hear Trenton's story. I love Waylon and Rose. For someone who guards her heart, Heather falls in love rather quickly. This time will be different. Waylon may be just about the sexiest guy she has ever met, but he has a past that worries her. So, she puts up her guard and refuses to become involved with him. However, Waylon has another idea. He wants a home and family and he thinks Heather might be the one to help him with it. She even loves Rose. Will he be able to talk her into it and will she be able to overlook his past?

I have to say that I am really enjoying this series and while this is the second book it can be read on a stand alone basis, although I would recommend reading the series in order.

Softhearted is Heather's book and she has her head turned by the new rancher, Waylon. Their chemistry and connection is immediate and electric but what I loved about this book was that the this is a slow building romance and for me, I loved watching this couple develop their relationship over a period of time.

This was a really sweet and touching romance with minimal angst. For me, I really felt this couple and their story and I look forward to the next one.

3 1/2 Star Review......

Softhearted is a great sequel to the first of this series, Hardheaded, however it doesn’t pack quite the punch as book one. This book was a little slower moving, and I didn’t read it quite as fast as the previous book.

I did enjoy it though, and getting reacquainted with some of our favourites is always fun; plus Heather deserves her HEA.

This is the second book, Softharded, in a series by Kim Law that takes place in Red Oak Falls, TX.

The story starts off where the first story left off. Heather Lindsay, who is one of the three foster sisters who run a construction company called Bluebonnet Construction, and her attraction/non-attraction to Waylon Peterson who has moved to Red oak Falls to help Cal run the ranch. Both construction companies have merged is now known as Bluebonnets Nail It. The company is now renovating the ranch for Cal and Jill's wedding. Heather's job is changing the ranch's backyard into an outdoor picture perfect postcard.
Waylon has secrets as well as Heather. Neither one can trust but there is attraction that builds to the end of the story. The story weaves through the ups and downs of them fighting their attraction to one another.

BOOK BLURB

Heather Lindsay loves falling in love—even though her blueprint for romance has failed her time and time (and time) again. But now that she’s signed on to design an outdoor-wedding venue for her friend’s home renovation show, Heather’s found a new focus: her career. Only it’s not long before she’s being distracted—by the hunkiest man who ever swaggered down the streets of Red Oak Falls.

The show’s new ranch manager, Waylon Peterson, a.k.a. Prince Harry in a cowboy hat, has every woman swooning. He’s also got a bad-boy rep that’s made him the hottest mess in town. In other words, he’s catnip for Heather, the Texan queen of bad choices. That’s why she’s steering clear—even with Waylon’s charm going full throttle.

Waylon is determined to trade one night stands for true love, but convincing Heather may be an impossible task. He’s ready to settle down, but can she get past her fear of settling and give love one more shot?

My Thoughts

In the past Heather Lindsay has found herself in situations where the man she thought she would spend the rest of her life with did not share that sentiment. Instead each time he would instead show that being faithful to only one woman was just not going to happen and each time Heather died a little more inside.

Now totally wary of following her heart Heather fights to keep from becoming smitten with Waylon Peterson because his reputation as a player overshadows his apparent resemblance to Prince Harry.

In Heathers mind this of course means she will more than likely succumb to the man if they ever cross paths.

Being that Red Oak Falls is a small town and they both work on the same ranch the inevitable finally happens and to no ones surprise the pair do strike sparks.

The plot only thickens when Heather finds out the secret behind Waylon's weekends spent away from the ranch and town. A pint-sized secret that soon has her wishing for things that she had almost given up on forever and opening her eyes to the fact she really wants a chance for those dreams to come true with Waylon.

As per usual those dreams get put away when things from Waylon's past rear their ugly head, causing Heather to rethink not only her relationship with him but also the direction her future holds.

However remember this is a love story at heart and the heart wants what it wants, no matter how many obstacles are in the way there will be lasting happiness in Heather and Waylon's future. Happiness together, the kind that lasts forever because they both know that is what they have wanted from the very beginning.

Small town Texas and romance, what more does one need?

I really enjoyed the first book in this series and was eager to read the next book. I found myself having to push through the middle part of the book but I was so very glad to get to the end - and not because it was over! I loved the way that Kim Law wrapped up the story and created that happily ever after that I was afraid the readers wouldn’t get with Heather and Waylon.

Bring on Trenton’s story or even Aunt Blu’s - I am ready for another book by Kim Law! Don’t limit yourself to just this series - I got hooked with the Wilde’s of Birch Bay series and quickly devoured the Turtle Island and Sugar Springs series as well.

I received a complimentary arc from NG for review.
I really enjoyed the first book but this one not as much. I felt that the book took too long to get there and it really took me a while to plod thru to the main story. That said once I got there I was more into it but I felt disconnected from the characters while it took time to get to the main story.

This story is Heathers and she had a very sad history. I loved how well she knows herself and that she never gives up and is a fighter. Waylon is the new ranch foreman and I loved how cute these two were when they flirted. Once the story got going I really enjoyed it and that is because the writing really picked up speed.

Back to Red Oak Falls and the building gang. I love the Blubonnets in book one and even more so in Softhearted.

Heather is the sensitive, loving one of the gang and her heart deserves happiness. Her backstory of love and loss, not only with her parents, but with the jerks she has previously dated, lead the reader to become invested in her happiness. Heather should have the world and a man willing to give it to her.

Designing the lavish garden for Jill and Cal's wedding, Heather is forced to face her past and memories are dredged up leaving her in a reflective and vulnerable state. Enter Waylon Peterson, the sexy red headed cowboy who is embodies everything Heather desires and everything her friends want her to steer clear of.

Waylon has one heck of a reputation- ladies man is mild to what is told of his ways. Rumors of gambling dealings and money issues further create a man that Jill and Trenton want as far away from Heather as possible. Heather sees more to Waylon than what he is known for. Once she learns a tid bit about Waylon no one else seems to know- Heather is certain he is more than the reputation but a man that she is not only attracted to but likes,

I enjoyed their chemistry and the struggles that they each faced. While Heather's struggle is internally with her emotions of her childhood and the loss of her parents, Waylon is struggling with a fight he not only wants to win- BUT HE HAS TO!

I loved how Heather and Waylon come together, share a bond, and holy hotness for one another. Their struggles, both together and separately, lead them on a journey to not only forgive themselves, but the most influential people in their lives. I loved that their true healing comes after that and they find their way to one another.

I loved the first book in this series, and was looking forward to book 2. Though it was still entertaining, for me, it wasn’t as engaging as book one.
The series centers around three gals that became foster sisters, when “Aunt” Blu took them in. When as adults they all returned home, they formed a construction company. In book one, you find out how they ended up merging with another construction company. You would benefit from reading it to get all the details of this group.
This time, it’s Heather’s story and the man she is attracted to , Waylon.
Heather has not been lucky in either choosing men or in love. When she hears the new ranch manager in town is a redheaded Prince Harry lookalike, she makes it a point of staying far away from him, since he is definitely her type.
Both have a history of losses, and bad choices .
Will they give a relationship and love a chance, or will their past experiences inhibit them from searching happiness?
My issues were with the push and pull going on with Heather, whom I never felt a connection to and it seemed to be a story geared for the late 20s crowd. For me, it’s a 3.5 star. Still, Ms Law is a talented author and my personal opinions should not detract from her writing.
I was gifted a copy by Netgalley and Montlake Romance. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Really enjoyed this book. Although it is the second in the series, I don't think you need to have read the first to understand what is happening.
Heather always falls for the wrong type of guys, and she knows it. So when she hears the rumours about Waylon she knows she should stay away from him. But as soon as she meets him she wants to know more.
As the books progresses secrets from their past are uncovered, but it is the final secret from Waylon that sends Heather running.

Wow! I love Red Oak Falls, TX! And all the wonderful characters who reside there. This book continues the story of three adult, former foster kids and the woman who fostered them. It is a sweet romance between people who have had a rough childhood, each in their own way. The repercussions from past bad decisions haunt Waylon and Heather and impact their fledgling romance. Surround ed by supportive friends and family, they work their way to their HEA. I was cheering them on all throughout the story!

ARC Kindle Copy for Review

I received a free, advance copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.

The Bluebonnet Construction girls are back and this time we are focus on Heather Lindsay as she helps Jill with her wedding plans. She lost both her parents during a fire in a barn when she was young as she has some guilt feelings despite it was not her fault. She idolizes her parents’ marriage and does not trust men and gambling.

Waylon Peterson is the new ranch manager of the show. He has his own secrets including a young daughter whom he is trying to regain custody after a stay in the hospital which his deceased wife parents are trying to keep permanent custody.

Flirting comes naturally to the both of them but each are weary. Can they take their flirting to the next level without getting burned? Willthey be able to move on together and build a new family? Feisty fun read.

4.5 Stars

Jill, Heather and Trenton are three foster sister taken in by “Aunt” Blu when they were teens. They formed a construction company, Bluebonnet Construction, specializing in she-sheds. They first book in the series had their company in an competition on a home improvement show, and told Jill and Cal’s story. This book is Heather and Waylon’s story. Heather came to live with “Aunt” Blu after her parents died in a barn fire when she was 14. She is now working on the home improvement show as the landscape designer for Cal’s ranch. Waylon is working on Cal’s ranch as the foreman. Heather has chosen poorly and been hurt in past relationships and is wary of Waylon. Waylon has made poor choices in his past that he is trying to make right. Both of them have baggage that they have to get past before they can find their way to their HEA. What I loved about this book, Waylon. He is a great guy, handsome and sweet. What kept this from being a 5 star was Heather. In the first part of the book, she acted like she was in high school (she is 29). As their relationship started to take off, the character improved. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to Trenton’s story. I was given an ARC of this book for my honest review.
