The Spook in the Stacks is the fourth installment in the Lighthouse Library Mystery series set in the Outer Banks of North Carolina featuring Lucy Richardson, librarian at the Bodie island Lighthouse Library. Halloween is quickly approaching and Lucy has her hands full organizing all of the upcoming library events including the several talks scheduled to be presented by rival Louise Jane.

Former resident, now wealthy businessman, Jay Ruddle is looking to donate his vast collection of North Carolina historical documents and the Bodie Island Lighthouse Library is being considered as a recipient along with neighboring Blacklock College. Jay has come to town along with his granddaughter Julia and collection curator Greg Summers, and Lucy, Bertie, Charlene and Ronald are doing their best to encourage him the Lighthouse should be his top pick. Unfortunately during one of the Halloween events Lucy discovers the strangled body of Jay and sets out to catch a killer.

A fast paced plot with well developed characters. In this addition to the series we get to know Theodore "Teddy" Kowalski, the rare book collector with the fake British accent, a lot better as he falls head over heels and into a love triangle for the attentions of my fair Julia. Strange things are happening around the library, figures are appearing in the mist and Julia is wondering if the events are stemming from the Rebecca MacPherson, the model ship that Louise Jane has donated to the library for Halloween, whose toy sailors and cat seem to have a life of their own.

When I heard that Crooked Lane Books would be picking up this series after the previous publisher had opted out, I was overjoyed. After all, doesn't a library, a lighthouse and a cat make for a great premise? I received an advanced copy of The Spook in the Stacks from NetGalley via Crooked Lane Books and while not required to write a review I am more than happy to offer my honest opinion.

I've been reading this series from the beginning & it keeps getting better. I was enchanted by the Halloween events, I really would like to hear Louise Janes stories. I love the character development, it felt as though I knew all of them. The mystery of whodn't kept me guessing til the end & we're still left with the mystery of the horse! I was given the opportunity to review an ARC of this book for NetGalley and the publisher.

I was so excited when I found out that this series was continuing, and the book definitely did not disappoint.

While I still had issues with parts of the book, I loved it. I wasn't able to guess whodunnit and it totally took me by surprise. Lucy still lets Louise Jane get to her, and sadly no one has killed off Diane yet. Someone being on the library board but hating the library? (Two someone's actually.) What does Bertie do? Everytime we see her she says "I'll be in my office."

I loved the addition of the Julia love triangle. (We've never seen Teddy act so human before!) I enjoyed the byplay of watching Greg and Teddy fight for the fair Julia's affection. When Julia's estranged mother came on the scene, she was a hoot! I definitely enjoyed the character development.

Charles is still my favorite character in the book!! That cat is such a character!

"Whenever I wish I'd won the lottery, I always remember that no one loves me for my money," Bertie said. "And it's better that way."

I heard a lot about this series so I was really curious when I was approved for this ARC. A library in a lighthouse is really an unusual setting.
It's really enjoyable and entertaining mystery with a touch of (maybe) paranormal.
I appreciated the style of writing, the characters and the plot. No plot hole was present and all the was solved by the end of the books.
Even if it 's the third book in this series there were no problems in understanding the characters and their relationships.
I surely will get the previous instalments and look forward to the next one.
Many thanks to Crooked Lane Books and Netgalley

Great cozy mystery, especially since it's set on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where I vacation once or twice a year. Also, I love that she is a librarian in a lighthouse. How cool is that. This is the first Lucy story I have read, but I'll definitely look for more.

All I can say that the book from the first page to the last was a thrilling read,I read it in a few hours as I couldn't put it down.
To many suspicious people to guess who the killer was.
I loved the library setting in the story and the. Magic of having it in a lighthouse..
Looking forward for her next book .

Another mystery falls into librarian Lucy's lap, just as she and Conner are navigating their growing relationship as well his mayoral race. Filled with wonderfully drawn supporting cast, as well as evolving main characters, this is another winner to the series.

It’s Halloween on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and librarian Lucy Richardson finds herself in the running to acquire one of the biggest private collections of North Carolina historical documents. Plenty of libraries and archives want to add Jay Ruddie’s collection to their holdings, Lucy can only hope that the Bodie Island Lighthouse Library will be the lucky recipient. But during a night of ghost stories at the library, Lucy finds Ruddie’s body in the stacks of her rare books collection. It’s up to Lucy and her library staff to track down the killer…and if they happen to get Ruddie’s collection in the mean time, well, that will be okay too. Add in sightings of ghostly horses in the marsh, things that go bump in the night at the library, and fearless librarians and you have a book that cozy readers will love
