I was so very hopeful with this story by Sarah Cradit.
New Orleans. Power. Magic. Mayhem. Love of all varieties.

I was disappointed that it fell rather flat. To me.
It didn't grip me. I found it rather slow. And anticlimactic is many ways. And then very rushed in the last couple chapters. Which of course leaves you on a cliffhanger.

Nicholas Deschanel is the one character that gave this story 3 stars for me.

I found this book to be rather dull. It's very slow. It has very little plot. I'm surprised I even managed to read all of it when it was so boring.

Perhaps it's because I haven't read any of this author's work before but I found this book confusing and too dull to finish. The plot was convoluted and the characters dull. Sorry.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an eARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Slow. Achingly slow. A lot of world building, a lot of great fill in work, and good character development, but it was almost nothing else. There was vague plot there, but it was probably 15-20% alone with the rest being world building. Not very balanced at all. I didn't hate it, and the twist at the end certainly makes me want to read book 2, but I did find myself skipping and skim reading trying to find some actual "action" or event.
