I’ve realized that this author just isn’t for me. I know she is loved by many. DNF at 23% because it just felt blah

I started reading this book in early 2018, and I was excited to be given the opportunity to read it through Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review. I typically love Nancy Thayer's books, so my expectations were high. I got about 8 chapters in, then life happened, and I ended up not finishing it until December 2019. In hindsight, I think it was partially because I really wasn't connecting with the characters in the book.

I didn't find any of the male characters particularly likeable, nor was David's daughter Poppy. This is a story centered around the joining of 2 families through marriage, after the deaths of 2 spouses. The majority of the story takes place during summer weekends on Nantucket. The children are all grown and Alison and David are planning their wedding and trying to merge their families. Alison has 2 daughters, Felicity and Jane, and David has a son and a daughter, Poppy and Ethan. This book splits into different stories, following Felicity, Jane, Poppy, and Alison through the summer.

I think maybe there were too many stories going on at the same time for me to connect with this one.

Nancy Thayer never disappoints and this book is no exception. She makes you feel as if you are there, takes you to a world that I can only dream of. Love her books!

Another great beach read. This is the first book I've read about a marriage between two adults with grown children.
Even though their children are adults, they are still in need of their parents. Bringing together two families is a challenge. Marriages in trouble, babies, Casanova future step brother, controll, distance, business, all woven into an intriguing entertaining story.

Nancy Thayer’s books are strongest in their sense of place. They immediately transport you and your senses to Nantucket. I have never been there but she expertly brings the you to every sight, sound and smell. Nantucket is as much a character as Felicity, Jane and Alice.

I have read other Nancy Thayer books and I’ve come to expect interesting characters and a deeper emotional level than most books with such flashy, perfect for the beach cover reads. And this was no exception but as a reader, I had a hard time in the first few chapters remembering who was who. I don’t know if I was having a hard time focusing but it took me awhile to feel comfortable with the changing of the narrative. Once it clicked, I could enjoy the story more.

Although not my favorite Nancy Thayer novel, it was still very good and enjoyable. Will recommend to my readers who enjoy meatier women’s fiction.

I love Nancy Thayer and look forward to her annual Nantucket novel. This was one of her best with a nice backstory and array of characters. Don't start to read it if you need to get anything done since it is absolutely impossible put down. Her novels never disappoint and this was so enjoyable!

A second wedding in Nantucket. Too bad the step daughter thinks the bride is out to steal her inheritance. The daughter seems interested in the step son who is not what he appears to be. Summer chaos ensues! Love Nancy Thayer, love the beach, love weddings and love when all come together in a perfect summer book.

Unexpectedly finding love later in life, Allison is excited to spend the summer before her wedding to fiancé David, with her two adult daughters Jane and Felicity, while getting to know David’s children Poppy and Ethan better. Everyone we meet along the way has problems and they all surface in this short time frame. Whether it’s insecurity, infidelity, work, or jealousy, emotions run high and feelings get hurt in A Nantucket Wedding. However, this is a summer beach read, so the issues get addressed and resolved without too much chaos along the way. As other reviewers have commented upon, all is tied up neatly by the end and though a little predictable, there were a few moments where I was pleasantly surprised by the dialogue. If you are looking for an escape into another family’s problems and want the happy ending, this is the book for you.

Alison Jones and her fiancé, David are in the middle of planning their wedding but for the middle-aged couple, blending their families will take some persistence and understanding. They have their work cut out for them but there’s nothing like a summer on the beach that won’t help smooth the course.

Alison’s daughters, Felicity and Jane, may be worlds apart in temperament but both are happy that their mom has found love again after the death of their father. If only they could also lean on one another to help deal with their current life situations.

Felicity could enjoy the summer helping her mom plan the wedding but she can’t stop thinking about the state of her own marriage. She’s tired of not connecting with a husband who seems more interested in work. Similarly, Jane is going through a rough patch with her husband because now she realizes she could easily trade-in her high power career and jet-setting lifestyle for being a mom but her husband isn’t on the same page.

Enter into the picture, David’s grown children. Ethan, who is separated from his wife, but loves to flirt with both Felicity and Jane. And, Poppy who David had decided would soon be running his successful company but now isn’t too sure she’s quite ready for the job.

I initially thought this novel was going to be more about Alison and David finding love later in life but the adult children are the ones that take center stage. I thought all four had some serious growing up to do and let their parents enjoy their new life. Very light read and not surprised by the quick resolution to all the crises created by the children. Best part of the novel was the setting and thinking how wonderful it would be to spend every weekend of the summer in Nantucket.

Looking for a beach read? Well, here you go! I have seen author, Nancy Thayer's books displayed in stores for years, but I'll be honest, I've never read one until now, and boy, it's obvious I've been missing out!

Alison and David are preparing their wedding at the end of the summer in Nantucket. Both of them have grown children and grandchildren and their families lead very busy lives. Alison and David invite the families to their home in an attempt to bond their blended family.

Alison's relationship with her daughters has been strained but throughout the summer they learn they are strong and can deal with whatever comes their way. David's daughter and son were raised in a privileged household and they are learning to deal with their father's decision to marry again. While his son supports his father's decision to marry Alison, he also seems to have set his sights on Alison's daughter, adding to all of the chaos. David's daughter wants to take over her father's company, is very headstrong and is not agreeable to being in the number two slot in her father's life. 

The scenes of Nantucket were absolutely beautifully described by Ms. Thayer to the extent that I felt like I could actually imagine being right there.  This story line is written very well - it's fast paced and it touches on lots of real life issues like relationships, siblings, parents and blended families. The only disappointment I can share is the fact that the book ended and there was no more to read! LOL!

I enjoyed the characters and the setting of this book. I love the stories about Nantucket and liked the interaction between Alison and her grown daughters, Jane and Felicity, and how they got to know David, Allison's fiance, and his grown children Ethan and Poppy. I like a story that deals with problems that happen regularly in real life and enjoy seeing how they resolve them. This was a wonderful beach read.

I have read many books written by Nancy Thayer and thoroughly enjoyed each one and this book will join a place on my favorites shelf. Alison and David, a couple in their mid fifties, have fallen in love and decided to marry. Alison worked so hard to blend their two families together over the summer leading up to their fairytale we’. I loved the way her own daughters experienced life-changing adjustments in their own marriages over the summer. I also enjoyed watching David’s daughter, Poppy, evolve through the story. Ethan...I will let you decide for yourself, although I am sure we will all have the same opinion! Love the way Nantucket is portrayed in the book, especially David’s house. Wish I could spend time in that seemingly piece of heaven! I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. I thoroughly enjoyed A Nantucket Wedding by Nancy Thayer. I found the relationships between the sisters, Jane and Felicity, to be of utmost interest. There was romance, there was some suspense, there was the beautiful setting of Nantucket, but most of all, this book did very well giving backstory on each character and really exploring the rapport between all of the characters. This book held my attention, made me want to keep reading late into the night just a bit longer, which turned into me not getting enough sleep for work! I also feel this book gave a good picture of the many facets of different marriages, it's most definitely not a simple chicklit book. Still, I think this would be a great long weekend/vacation read.

I enjoyed this fun, summer read. It’s the story of a mature woman remarrying on Nantucket. It’s a story of blending adult children. I like how we also heard the daughters voices too. It was a fun read. And makes me want to move to Nantucket!

Alison is planning her second wedding on Nantucket Island and wants her daughters, Felicity and Jane, to spend as much time there as possible this summer to bond and connect and to get to know her fiancée's family as well. Relationships can be complicated and messy and beautiful and those forged on Nantucket Island are all of that and more. I really enjoyed this story as a summer read!<

Loved reading this book! It was light but genuine, fun and real. The characters were well drawn and relatable. Though each of the series of conflicts were too easily solved or decided, I still enjoyed spending time with each of the characters. Best for a summer or light read when you need an intellectual break!

The title of Nancy Thayer's A Nantucket Wedding (Ballantine, digital galley) is a bit of a misnomer, not that it doesn't take place on Nantucket, and not that there isn't a wedding. But the warmhearted story of blended families is mostly about the summer before the planned fall wedding between Alison and David, both of whom have been married before. They also have grown children and young grandchildren meeting for the first time. Alison's daughters Jane and Felicity are chalk and cheese, although both have workaholic husbands. Jane is just as absorbed in her legal career as Scott but has started to regret their mutual decision not to have kids. Easy-going Felicity wishes Noah paid as much attention to her and their two kids as his start-up business and efficient "work wife.'' Stirring the pot is David's handsome son Ethan, who can't help being a playboy flirt. His sister Pamela is intent on taking over her father's business but being pregnant again wasn't in her plans. Although Alison tries to ease  tensions by being the perfect hostess and preparing delicious meals at David's luxurious island home, she's feeling overwhelmed while still getting to know her husband-to-be. Thayer understands the way families work -- and don't work -- and if her resolutions tend toward the optimistic, that's ok. It's summer. On Nantucket. Go with it.

Another winner by Nancy Thayer! She never disappoints. A story about family life and the intricacies and complications of it. I'll remember this story for a long time.

I had to keep checking to see if this was a book that I had already read. The plot and characters are similar to another low country beachy read but the characters did not stay with their cheating spouses. Very disappointed in this most recent title by Thayer.
