This book is designed to facilitate talking to God about your brokenness and sin. I read and reviewed "Prayers for Difficult Times for Kids" last year, and I thought it was very well written and organized for young kids. The same can be said for this edition, but this book is more in depth and targeted at men. Every sin, trial, and tribulation you can think of is included in this book. As a bonus, the topics are presented in alphabetical order.

The first sentence of this book summarizes it perfectly: "Men tend to set prayer aside". This is so true, especially for men that have jobs and families and other things that are set as a priority above prayer. Whether it's because we think we are too busy in life, too lazy and unfocused, or just want to appear more macho than we really are, men tend to put off prayer as much as possible.

In his letter to the Thessalonians, Paul tells us to "pray without ceasing". Jesus shares a parable in Luke 18:1 that illustrates that "men always ought to pray and not lose heart". Praying without ceasing doesn't necessarily mean to constantly be praying. Instead it means to always be in prayer or have a spirit of prayer about you. John 16:33 is a lasting reminder that "Jesus has overcome the world". Paul also urges us in Philippians 4:6-7 to “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus”. Turn your worries over to God and He will guide you through the trials. He has overcome the world.

This book covers various trials and tribulations many believers face. Each topic starts off with a relevant Bible verse. This is followed by a short discussion of the topic, and then you are given sample prayers and prompts that will help engage you to talk with God more regularly. A healthy prayer life is essential to being a healthy Christian. This book will help you to get back on the right track to a closer relationship with our Heavenly Father.

I recommend this book to all Christians, whether they be faithful servants, new believers, or wayward drifters. I received this as a free ARC from Barbour Books on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
