I found the concept of this story quite intriguing, and was excited to get started when I was approved for a copy of it in exchange for a review.

However, I couldn't easily get into the story, and I wasn't the biggest fan of Nic. It does pick up after a bit though, and Nic started to grow on me. Her quest endeared her to me, and the mystery of her background was intriguing and kept me invested in the story.

This book involved a mix of a lot of different lore, borrowing stories and tales from Greek and Norse mythology, with a touch of Fae lore. I like all these things individually, and I felt like this story did a decent job of bridging all these stories from various backgrounds into a cohesive setting for this novel. It added a layer of complexity to the story that I enjoyed. I can see myself reading, and enjoying, latter installments in this series as well.

"When 16-year-old Nic Rutherford heads out for a night on the town, she brings a full arsenal. Her best weapon? A deadly kiss that can take down the biggest game around—humans. Two-legged predators don’t stand a chance once she makes lip to skin contact. But her blessing is also a curse, one that Nic fears will inadvertently harm anyone who gets too close—her aunts, her best friend, or the mysterious new boy who possesses strange abilities of his own. "

Steamy, fun and all things magical! I really liked this one!

Big thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for sending me a copy of this book to read and review.

I absolutely loved this book. I couldn't put it down. It had so many twists and turns and I never saw them coming. I can't wait to continue with the series next month (I wrote it on my tbr so it has to happen... right? haha).

The world building in this book is so good I loved it. Every chapter just built more and more of the world and it was just executed so well. I also loved the array of characters we have in this book especially Nic and Adrian and the relationship between them.

This book intrigued me as soon as I read the sentence 'Teenage serial killer who kills with a kiss'. It did not disappoint and I will be continuing the series as soon as possible.

This is a fast-paced, action-pack YA novel. The first in a series, it has everything I love in a good book. Well developed characters, a good story arc, superb writing, and no cliffhanger. This is part fantasy part mythology that will have you reading well past your bedtime because you’ll want to know everything you can about Nic. The writing is strong and the entire story unfolds and drags you into it. I can’t wait to read book two in this series and see what happens next.

Rating 4.75/5

When I read the blurb about this being a Faerie book, I absolutely had to get it! The depth of Nic's character and her curse was so well developed and thoughtful. I couldn't imagine living with a curse like that, and she used it for good instead of just feeling sorry for herself. I greatly appreciated how human these paranormal characters were despite their uniqueness and it just made it so much more relatable. The adventure of the plot was fantastic - I was addicted so bad! Definitely pick up a copy because you will love it!

I love stories of the fae and the courts. I liked the main character, the heroine, less than the other characters. That said, I immediately grabbed book2 so I could know what happened! Hoping this is a long series and that the heroine grows on me!

The Goodnight Kiss was an outstanding tale filled with Norse legends, faeries, giants, a wolf, and a girl whose kiss has the power to kill.  From the very first line, the book held me in its thrall and I simply could not put it down.  The world building was stunning with its portrayal of the fae alongside Norse mythology.  The characters that inhabited the world were just as phenomenal and I found myself thirsting to know more about them.
Overall, I completely adored The Goodnight Kiss and cannot wait for the second book.  I would highly recommend this story as a must read for all book lovers into mythology, the fae, and a girl whose kiss is as deadly as the past.

Thank you Net galley and Jennifer L Hart.
If I had to give any stars for the first half of the book, It would probably have been a 2 star rating as I struggled with the story but I carried on and I'm glad that I did. Love the mix of the Lore and will definitely carry on with the series.

I am absolutely mad about The Goodnight Kiss! I can't believe how fantastic this whole experience was for me. From the very first page I was beyond addicted. I could honestly not get enough of the story and characters. I just had to know EVERYTHING!!! I couldn't stop reading!

The Goodnight Kiss is the first book in the Unseelie Court series. This marvelous book follows Nic, a 16 year old young woman with a rather remarkably terrible gift or curse. She literally has the kiss of death and uses it to target sexual predators, which made my life! When she runs into a green eyed wolf she finds herself feeling weirded out. Follow that weird encounter with a new guy at school who everyone insists isn't in fact "new'. As startling as that is alone, Nic finds Aiden pushing himself into her life and forcing her to confront things about herself that she just may not be ready for.

What I loved most about the story:
-The characters and how in depth and original they were. Also how perfectly human they were!
-The incorporation of the myths and legends! I was blown away by how seamlessly they were able to be implemented and interwoven together to bring some oomph to the history of the story.
- The fantastical details
- The entire engaging plot!

I sincerely can't wait for the next book!

I received an ARC copy from Jennifer through Netgalley and have voluntarily left this review.

Nic Rutherford is a 16-year-old girl with a secret: her kiss will lead to death in whoever she comes close to. She uses it to kill sexual predators that think she's an easy target in alleys outside of nightclubs and keeps herself emotionally distant from others. Aiden Jaeger is the new boy in town that others seem to believe had always been there, and he slid seamlessly into all of her classes at school. The boy has mysterious abilities of his own, and after her best friend Sarah dies in an accident, seems to be the only one that can not only explain Nic's powers but discuss a way to bring Sarah back.

The mystery of who Nic really is and why she has this power is slowly revealed over the course of the book. It's a mix of Greek, Gaelic and Norse mythologies, and that isn't as odd sounding as you may think. There are references to rape, murder, and all kinds of violence, as well as explicit language and underage drinking. Nic and Sarah are sixteen, after all, though Nic has a long history that is only coming back in flashes. It's loosely based on Sleeping Beauty by its description, but it has more to do with the Seelie and Unseelie courts of Faerie.

Nic is hard to get a handle of initially because she deliberately keeps herself emotionally closed off. That's different from the fact that she outright states she's asexual; as much as she plays up her sexual appearance to be bait to lure in predators, she abhors the idea of actual intercourse. She has emotional ties to Aiden that we discover the source of as the novel progresses, which sometimes leads to almost sexual thoughts, too. Still, I do like that we have an asexual character in a novel and this is accepted by Aiden without being told she's broken or strange because of that. She has other reasons for being odd, and her ability to kill predators is only the start of it.

As the novel progresses, we learn more about Nic as she does, and she certainly grows up a lot. She's very different as a result of what she's experienced, and the losses force her to make difficult decisions. She does so and has the strength of will to follow through, even when it's more difficult than she thought it would be. For this reason, I was really impressed with her, and I look forward to future novels in the Unseelie Court series to see what she does next.

So this book touches on a lot of triggers and is not for the faint of heart. That being said I loved this book. It was different and you don't get 'different' a lot anymore.

I really enjoyed The Goodnight Kiss; it totally managed to engage and hold my attention and I was hooked from the minute I opened this and started reading.
I initially was bouncing between a four or a five-star rating as there were some very slight issues here for me, but this did such a great job of entertaining me and was also glued to my hand throughout that I went with my initial gut feeling and awarded it its full five stars.
The plotline here revolves around sixteen-year-old Nic Rutherford a human with a strange ability to deliver a deadly death sentence with her kiss.
Adopted by her mysterious aunts and with no memories of her time before they entered her life Nic lives her life hidden in plain sight.
Covering up her inner nature with the help of teenage camouflage Nic embraces her inner killer all with a little help from her adopted family.
When a strange boy joins her school that only she recognises as out of place; Nic knows life as she knows it is about to take a huge side-step and Nic along with her new but strangely familiar friend is about to embark on a journey that she may or may not ultimately survive.
So this was a cool read that I found so easy to get lost in; it had great characters alongside a fantastic backdrop of mythology blended with fantasy.
I have a huge soft spot for anything that dabbles in the mythology ballpark and this went one step better blending into the mix Mythology, fantasy and the Fae so I was in heaven.
I found the fact that Nic herself claimed herself as A-Sexual; (a first for me in fiction) to be such a fascinating prospect, especially considering the backdrop of events here that later come to light.
Maybe that past even contributing to her current state of affairs.
I also loved Aiden Jager as well but did think that some past events could have been avoided if he had just stepped up to the plate and dealt.
He was not just a victim of others manipulations he also played a main role and the martyr mantle, in my opinion, is very overrated.
I understand the manipulations he was up against but he went in with his eyes wide open so totally new the score so to speak.
I guess what I'm trying to say is "The Goodnight Kiss" for me deals with imperfect individuals and nobody here was exactly blameless.
Trying to be vague here folks but it was the above that really made me consider dropping this a star.
So this was quite different to what I was initially expecting but in a totally positive way.
It had just the correct balance of ingredients to appeal and I'm really looking forward to the next instalment and seeing where this may actually go next especially in regards to the new tentative romance that is slowly blossoming between Nic and Aiden.
I was ecstatic this didn't conclude on a massive cliffhanger, we are just left with such anticipation for the next instalment.
This was for me a fantastic start to what looks to be a great new series.
So I was provided with an ARC of "The Goodnight Kiss (The Unseelie Court #1)" By Netgalley of which I have reviewed voluntary.
All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

I went into this book with no expectations and was happily surprised. Really fun urban fantasy with a great voice-y character and interesting world building. I would definitely read more!

This book would be excellent for the very young adult market or pre-teen reader, however it is not for adults that like YA fiction. It has a great story, but the interactions and dialogue are very juvenile and somewhat repetitive. The main characters show almost no growth or maturity despite serious situations that should have matured them within the context. It is especially surprising given the storyline in which repressed memories are recovered during the "adventures" and the actual age of some of the participants. I think that marturing the dialogue and editing for repetitive information, plus speeding up the pacing a bit, could make this a much more marketable series (e.g. of interest to a wider market) since the actual story telling is good.

I had such a great time reading the first book, that I’m certain I want to read book two of this series as soon as possible. The way that mythology was woven into a new and interesting spin on the original, was enticing. I could not stop reading.

The main protagonist, Nic, was flawed and beautiful as such. In young adult stories, we often find perfection, but we are never perfect – this was a refreshing character to read about just for that reason.

The romance was odd, not at all what I am used to, since Nic, and her other half, Aiden, had such an interesting history (not saying more for fear of spoilers).

The Norns (Fates for Greek myth fans), was so well portrayed in this story, I thoroughly enjoyed the banter and how they were integrated into Nic’s life.

The plot was incredible. I could not see the ending coming, even guessing what could be the outcome, loved it! I cannot wait to dive into the second instalment and seeing where Jennifer takes Nic’s story next…
