Okay, I'm going to be completely honest and Kylie Scott, if she's reading this, may or may not like it, but...it was Joanna Wylde who introduced me (via her Facebook page) to Kylie Scott's work and I loved Joanna's books enough to give Kylie Scott a try and I very soon found myself addicted. I read her complete Stage Dive series in under a week and was so excited when she announced that she was writing the Dive Bar series. This series, so far, has been captivating, compelling, with both emotional highs and lows and the third book in the series, Chaser definitely doesn't disappoint. Eric Vail, was a character who I didn't really think that I would like after being portrayed in previous books as an immature, self-absorbed, manwhore douchebag but the growth and depths of his character shown throughout the course of the book and his love for Jean and Ada compltely changed my mind and he now may be giving Mal a run for his money in my Kylie Scott book boyfriend affections. A tremendous book that I highly recommend. |
My Review: Kylie Scott is one of my all-time favorite authors. An insta-buy, every time she releases something new. I loved the first two dive bar books, and figured the trend would continue... but then I learned Eric was the hero. And I'll admit, I was nervous. I haven't really liked him much throughout the series. He's had his good moments, but there was a lot of growing up he needed to do. But I'll read anything this woman writes, so read it I did. And guys... I'm a convert. I love him now. She made me fall for the big jerk, who's not as big of a jerk as I thought. Like everything this author writes, this book was pretty much perfect. Really, my biggest complaint was that I wish it could have been longer so I didn't have to finish it so quickly. I loved seeing the dive bar crew again, and watching our hero and heroine fall in love just made me.. well, I got all sentimental and just wanted to gush about how much I loved it. Highly recommended, for sure! Cover Lovin': Look at that hair! So dreamy. Recommendation: Each can be a stand alone, but to get the full affect of this tight group of friends, you'll want to read the previous books. Final Rating: FIVE out of FIVE stars (5/5)!! Loved every second of this! |
I sort of became an instant fan of Kylie Scott after reading Trust and I was super stoked to see what else she had to offer. Chaser was definitely not a disappointment, though to be honest, it was pretty much a home run when I saw that the heroine was pregnant when she meets the hero. I'm basically trash for stories where the male lead is an unapologetic man slut (but not in a bad way), then fights tooth and nail when confronted with the one woman that makes him actually FEEL, and proceeds to fall head over heels for her. That's definitely the case with Eric and Jean and it has the added bonus of him falling in love with her baby as well! The tension that was created because of the contentious relationship between Eric and Nell (which totally made me want/need to read the first two books in the series to get the background on all of that) and between Jean and her parents elevated the book above standard romance fluff. I loved Jean and Eric as characters and their chemistry was just delicious! I can't wait to devour more from Kylie Scott and I hope we get more in the Dive Bar series. 4 out of 5 wine glasses. |
Do you know how long I've been waiting for Chaser? A long time for sure! The time I spent waiting only made the trip back into the Dive Bar world that much sweeter. It was established previously in Twist how much of a player Eric is and it didn't look like he was in any hurry to change what was working for him. In walks Jean who knocks him sideways. He does the usual flirting but none of that will make a difference because ... she's pregnant! It feels like the world's cruelest joke that this really cool woman would be off limits in the ultimate way. Worse still is everyone's belief that he has and always will be a selfish womanizer. The amount of grief he's been receiving lately from his friends has him rethinking his lifestyle and now he's motivated to prove every single one of them wrong. He can be friends with a woman and not hit on her - he'll show them! With sex out of the equation Eric finds himself in one of the strangest but most fulfilling friendships that he has ever had. I'd describe Eric as Mal-lite. Funny and at times childish but without the need to be the center of attention. (By the way, I love Mal but this was the first thought that came to my mind.) Eric's quite charming in his self-reflection and he had me chuckling at some of his observations especially when he was confused by his new behaviour. The change in his attitude from the beginning to the end is astonishing, even to his close circle of friends. A lot of the credit goes to Jean who while not completely immune to him also doesn't lead him on during the early days of their friendship. She's a steadying force and because she's new to the group, and doesn't have any previous history them, she has the distinct advantage to see Eric differently. That's the lightbulb moment that struck me: sometimes when you're so close to the situation or have dealt repeatedly with the same behaviour, you just kind of shut off and accept that things will never change. That's where his friends were at with him but not Jean. She saw the effort he was making and she encouraged his self-improvement, and I love them both all the more for it. When things do heat up between them they're both adults about it. These two with their subtle flirting and their growing bond make them my favourite couple of this series. Kylie Scott is one of my absolute favourites. (I may have mentioned before that she ruined me for most other rockstar romances.) The unconventional romance along with her signature humour and witty dialogue makes Chaser a blast to read and you should definitely add it to your reading list! ~ Bel |
It’s Eric’s turn in Kylie Scott’s third installment in the Dive Bar series. Eric’s womanizing, bad boy reputation comes to a head when he realizes just what everyone thinks of him, and most importantly, when he meets Jean, a pregnant newcomer who catches his interest. He’s caught up in a storm of self-doubt, trying to figure out who he is and who he wants to be. Jean strikes his fancy from the very beginning, but finding out she’s pregnant is a punch to the gut. That’s a no-go for a guy like him, but unlike him, he can’t seem to stay away from her. And once the baby is born, he finds himself a new happy place with her and her baby girl. But Jean and Eric are just friends, and despite feelings deepening every moment they spend together, it’s a much more complicated situation that it seems. He doesn’t want to ruin what they have with taking it further. When an unexpected conversation changes the game, however, they wade into uncharted waters, putting it all on the line. This is a friends-to-lovers story that’s both sweet and refreshing. The narrative has a sort of redemptive quality to it, with Eric finding his way, his happy, where and with whom he least expects. I would have loved to hear Jean’s point-of-view to deepen our understanding of who they were as individuals, and who they are (and hoped to be) together, but overall, with a fast pace and so many sweet moments, it was such a fun book in which to escape. |
I love a good redemption story, and Chaser by Kylie Scott provided exactly what I needed. We've known Eric from the beginning of the series and he has always had a bit of a bad rep. We get to see a different side of him in this book when he helps out a single mother, Jean. Jean is someone who is down on her luck and she finds help in the person she least expects it. It's good that she's an outsider because she is able to see a different side those who he grew up with weren't able to. The scenes with the baby were heartwarming, and we really saw the growth of Eric in this book. I'm glad I picked this up, and I definitely recommend it for anyone who loves a single parent romance. |
I received a copy of this book for an honest review. Chaser is the first book in the Dive Bar series I have ever read. While this book states it can be read as a stand-alone, I wouldn't recommend it. Some of the aspects of the book just felt confusing because I hadn't read the other books. Anyway, that did not stop me from enjoying Chaser. Eric has been told he's an unreliable playboy. Now he's trying to show his friends and family that he isn't. I really felt for Eric at times. Other times though I wanted him to get it together. I liked Eric's character though. I felt that during the story he made a lot of growth. When Eric met Jean, he thought she had a nice butt. Then she turned around. Finding out she was pregnant was a big surprise for Eric. He didn't want anything to do with the pregnant chick, no matter how sexy he found her. I enjoyed how quickly their relationship changed after he helped her have a baby. Chaser is a very cute story with a lot of character growth and an enjoyable plot. I wouldn't suggest reading it as a stand-alone. |
You can’t go wrong when picking up a book by Kylie Scott. First she gave us the Stage Dive boys and now we are hooked on the Dive Bar series, this time with Eric being the main attraction. Eric Collins is a manwhore. Sick of constantly being put down by his friends and family, who see him as a love ‘em and leave ‘em kinda guy, he decides to change his ways and try his hand at something a little more serious with an actual girlfriend. Jean walks into the bar, and Eric thinks all his Christmases have come at once. Instantly attracted to the red headed beauty, Eric starts up a conversation with her, giving it all the charm, until he sees that Jean is VERY pregnant. Eric wants a serious relationship, but perhaps not that serious, and decides to just be Jean’s friend. But after baby Ada is born, things change for Eric and before he knows it, he can’t seem to stay away from the single mother and her new born. Feeling protective of the two and still hurting from losing a baby last year, Eric’s life becomes less manwhore and more family man. Will this couple get their happily ever after? You’ll gonna have to read it to find out. Like with all Kylie Scott’s books, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and did not want it to end. I devour these books like they are my last meal. Kylie is hugely talented and her writing is so incredibly addictive. The Dive Bar series gets better with each book released, and I will be devastated when it reaches it’s finale. |
Love Kylie Scott and absolutely love the Dive Bar series!! If you’ve read this series then you have to remember Eric, always up for a good time with the ladies and never been in a committed relationship. I loved Eric, even if he did act a little immature at times. Sometimes it takes a special kind of person to make you see the light. Jean moves to a new a new town to start over fresh for her and her baby. Can she get past her insecurities and see something more with Eric? Absolutely loved being able to see Eric turn into the sweet and caring man I knew he could be. This is definitely a slow burn kinda romance and omg is it ever good! Eric is definitely my favorite out of this series and will be yours too when you read those oh so sweet moments with baby Ada, and if you haven’t read this series yet no worries because it can be read as a stand-alone. Loved this slow burn/friends to lovers romance! This book will definitely give you all sorts of feels! |
Chaser is the third book in Kylie Scott’s Dive Bar Series. It is a stand-alone. Chaser is Eric’s story. Each book in the series has had its own flow. This story has a much laid back feeling. Eric, Nell & Lydia own The “Dive” Bar. Eric is a manwhore. He lives life as it comes. He is carefree and lacks responsibilities. Eric has never had a serious relationship. He has become the recent topic of conversation among the owners of the Dive Bar. His co-workers are teasing him about being irresponsible, immature, and only into himself. After all of this ribbing and teasing, Eric decides to “take a break” from women & one night stands, trying to be more responsible. “Seriously, Eric. One day you’re going to wish there was more to your life than the next piece of ass.” “Do you think I’m a manwhore with no concept of responsibility, incapable of having a meaningful relationship, who just uses women because I wouldn’t know real commitment if it bit me on the ass?” Along comes Jean. She & Nell developed an online friendship. She wanted to relocate, needing a change. Nell suggested that Jean take the available apartment above the Dive Bar and she accepts. Upon Jean’s arrival she stops into the Dive Bar for a bite to eat. Eric is drawn to her immediately until she stands up and is clearly pregnant (it was so funny!). I don’t want to spoil the story, so I won’t tell why that is an issue for Eric. Pregnant or not, Eric and Jean do run into one another, a lot because they are neighbors. There is definite chemistry and attraction between them. Eric is lonely while trying to kick his bad ways and Jean is just alone. As they continue to run into each other they begin to talk and become friends. Everyone is coming down on Eric about his friendship with Jean. They don’t want her hurt. When Jean goes into labor on a snowy night, Eric is the only one around. He is panicked, but comes through. Eric & Jean’s friendship only deepens after baby Ada is born. And you will find out what happens next when you read the book! Eric & Jean developed a great friendship which builds up slowly throughout the story. Both of their characters are well written. The story has a slow burn to it. You understand their fears and insecurities. There are many layers to Eric and Jean. They are peeled away, one by one. I loved seeing Eric’s transformation! Eric’s interactions and inner thoughts with baby Ada are hilarious. As well as when he talks about his love of breasts. Just so funny! And lastly, I love the small town of Coeur d’Alene where the story is set. Sounds like a place I’d love to live in! I’ll leave you with one of the many quotes that made me laugh….. Having not properly read the how-to-not-be-a-dick manual that everyone else in the world seemed to have a copy of, I’d open my mouth and screwed the whole thing up. PS: We also get a visit from the Stage Dive crew! It was fun seeing how their lives are changing…. |
Another Dive Bar novel? Sign me up. When this series began I was convinced Eric was a character that just wasn't for me. Boy was I wrong. Eric and Jean were one of my favorite couples. The book is about them but also about Eric growing up. I loved watching him grow and the tow of them come together. This was definitely one of the best in the series. Plus who wouldn't be excited for a few small cameos from Jimmy and Mal. 4.5 Smooches |
CHASER is book three in the Dive Bar series. It's a complete standalone though there's recurring characters. Eric is part owner of the bar and a serious player. He has a few misgivings about his wandering eye though and is thinking about maybe finding a girlfriend when Jean walks into his bar (no joke). For Eric, it's lust at first sight...until he realizes that Jean is pregnant! So for the most part, romance has a basicality (is that a word?) to it, a general outline that a story follows: boy meets girl, boy is a manwh@re, girl captures boy's heart, they live happily ever after. And I like this predictability, obviously right, since I LOVE reading about LOVE! But every once in awhile I come across a character that just shocks the hell outta me and Eric did just that!! How does a thirty year old man go through life so incredibly DENSE when it comes to women? LOL! Honestly, in the beginning, I didn't think I'd like him but the little stinker really grew on me! Oh my goodness, Eric's thought process literally had me laughing out loud. I loved the crazy back and forth between characters, the crystal clear journey that has Eric going from immature jerk to loving and thoughtful boyfriend and surprisingly, I enjoyed reading it completely from Eric's POV. Overall, this was a light, totally enjoyable read. I received, read and voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. |
** 4 Stars ** While this book is part of a series, it can be read as a complete standalone, although previous characters may make an appearance or two... or more. I'm completely new to the series despite my love for Kylie Scott's books so the author has always been my contemporary romance go-to. Feel bored and needed a read? Kylie. Feel the need for a bad boy hero with a hero complex? Kylie. And this time, she has made me go gaga over a certain player who is lost and confused with his own self - Eric Collins. There's something so freaking hot about bartenders that I can't resist getting drunk on their charms and Eric swept me off my feet without even me realizing! I'm not going to rehash the plot as it's always best if you read it for yourself, but I do have to say that this is one of the best Kylie book I've read yet! The only thing was I find the book to be a little too fast-paced at the start, but hell, it was one helluva ride! I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. |
Another great opening scene by Ms. Scott. We know the hero, Eric, from the previous books as a manwhore who can be carefree when it comes to money and work. So, when he hits on Jean the new girl in town it’s fun to watch his reaction when he discovers she’s pregnant. *gasp* His gal pal, Nell, is especially hard on him about how immature he is with his life choices. She has her reasons which we know from the 2 previous books. Even though she thinks she is protecting Jean from Eric it did annoy me that Nell was constantly rubbing his face in his past life choices. “You’re just not boyfriend material.” Chaser is told from Eric’s pov and we get to take the journey with him as he becomes a better version of his himself. He realizes he has the power within himself to change even if his friends weren’t quite sure he’d be able to do it. Jean was the one person who wasn’t judging Eric on his past and gave him the benefit of doubt. “You’re the whole package . . . funny, charming, handsome.” I really enjoyed watching Eric and Jean’s relationship grow from friendship to lovers. The addition of Ada, Jean’s baby, was so sweet. Nothing is more adorable than a man playing with a baby. Those moments between Eric and Ada melted my heart. (view spoiler) CHASER is set in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. It’s set in the same universe as Dive & Twist. Fans of Kylie Scott are going to love continuing on in the Dive Bar series. You even get to see the guys from the Stage Dive series. On a side note… there was a mention of a beer that is local to my town (Ninaski beer). That was fun to read in a book. ✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦ RELEASE DATE: April 17, 2018 Pre-order | order: https://amzn.to/2v2js7Y **Complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.** |
After all the craziness that went on during Twist, it’s impossible not to want to find out exactly what goes on in Eric’s head. Lucky us, Chaser is nothing but all kinds of Eric-goodness. Since we first met him in Dirty, Eric has had a rough go of it in Coeur d’Alene. Don’t get me wrong, he loves his hometown and is beyond loyal to his crew, but life has thrown him a curve ball or two. Now, as Nell has made up with Pat and is pregnant with his baby, but she still has a lot of animosity toward our favorite bartender. First of all, I want to say that I love how the Dive Bar series is tied into the Stage Dive universe. The tight restaurant family in Coeur d’Alene exists all on its own, but our old favorites can feel free to stop in and wreak a little havoc occasionally, especially when Mal’s involved. Plus, it’s nice to see that Stage Dive does have a place of respite when the world might be demanding a little more out of the guys than they have to give. Okay, now for all things Eric and Jean. Eric is one of those characters that I had a hard time relating to in previous books, so I’m really glad that we got an entire story from his point-of-view. One, he’s hysterical, and the way he processes things is so incredibly relatable, I found myself chuckling at his innate honesty on more than one occasion. Two, while I had little sympathy for him and the situations that his dick got him into, this book proved that Eric is more than just another manwhore. He’s a sensitive guy who really believes what people say about him. So much so, that it informs his self worth. When Nell continues to berate him and bring him down, Eric just sinks lower and lower into a pit of self-loathing. For most of this book, I was waiting and hoping that Eric would finally have enough of her interference and just tell her off in some huge blow up in the bar, but it turns out Kylie knows what I want even more than I do. Eric stayed the course and tried to better himself, hoping that others would see the changes he was making and support him. The only other person that gets any credit for helping Eric to be his best self is Jean. Not because she demands that he be one way or another, but because she gives him opportunities to be better. She trusts him with her daughter. She trusts him with her dirty apartment and unkempt appearance as a new mother. And, after some time, she trusts him with her body and her heart. Jean walks into Eric’s life at the perfect moment. He needed fresh eyes to see him without the map of his mistakes etched onto his skin. He needed someone who could hear people say things, but look at him differently. Thanks to a past that includes at least a few of the same mistakes that Eric has made, Jean definitely understands him better than anyone. She gives him space to be whichever version of himself he wants to be, and ultimately, he gives all that trust back to her in love. I adored watching Eric tangle himself into Jean’s life. I love how bonded he is to Ada. It’s not just a ploy to get into Jean’s pants. He sees her struggling with the single parent life, and he insinuates himself into the situation. He just wants someone to need him, someone to want his help, someone to depend on him so he can prove just how much love he has to give. Kylie Scott always seems to get it right. I never doubt that when I open up one of her books, I’m going to be challenged in heart, mind, and soul. Chaser is the perfect example of that. Eric’s story of redemption pulled at my heart, his dedication to bettering himself played with my mind, and his devotion to Ada bound him to my soul. I would never have thought that Eric could be one of my favorite Kylie Scott characters, but he’s definitely risen dramatically from where he ranked before. Thus, the power of Kylie. |
Eric is one of the co-owners of the Dive Bar. He is known as the charming man-whore, something that has really started to bother him. He wants to show everyone that he can be serious and boyfriend material, not the irresponsible player everyone paints him out to be. One day when on the job bartending, he notices a very beautiful woman entering the bar. He decides to approach her and flirt a little. After talking to Jean for a while, Eric thinks things are going well between them. However, Eric becomes shocked when he realizes that Jean is very pregnant. It seems like their romantic story is over Jean has recently moved to Couer d’ Alene, leaving Florida and her family behind. They were unsupportive of her unplanned pregnancy and the fact that she would be doing it on her own. The people of the Dive Bar are actually a pleasant surprise for her. Everyone has been so friendly and helpful that she appreciates it so much. But the person that has surprised her the most is Eric, especially after hearing only negative things from Nell–co-owner of Dive Bar. ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● “You’ve filled my heart and my life, and I can’t imagine being without you both.” ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● With each passing day, Eric and Jean become closer and it just made my heart skip a beat each time. I loved the slow development of their relationship. I didn’t know how Kylie was going to get me to like Eric, especially after reading about him in Joe’s book. I am happy to report that Eric stole my heart. Jean and Eric were so damn perfect. But when I read all the parts of Eric taking care of baby Ada…my heart turned into complete goo. Seriously, LOVED those moments. It was totally cuteness overload. Chaser was such a great book. The pace and slow burn were really good. The characters really grew, especially Eric. Eric proved to be so much more than what I originally thought about him. I thought Jean was a great match for him, as was Ada. While I enjoyed Nell in her book, I will admit I was not a real fan of hers in this one, just because she kept trying to put Eric down no matter what he did to prove his worth to her. It was actually quite irritating. Nonetheless, I really liked the book. If you love “friends to lovers “storyline with a baby added to the mix, then you will absolutely love this one. I mean c’mon….a sexy guy taking care of a baby…enough said. |
Chaser proves that fate has a sense of humor. Why does the right thing, happen at the wrong time? That's the irony we call life. Chaser though not always funny is good for a few laughs. Ms. Scott delivers wisdom with a wry sense of humor and a hearty dose of reality. She prides herself on not being too serious, but always being right on time. |
I love Kylie’s writing and I have been patiently waiting for Eric’s Book since we saw and heard of him in Twist, I wanted to know a little more about the arrogant, hotheaded rogue who seemed to love the women too much ! There had to be something else ! Eric is everything I said above, but when his friends continuously berate him, knock him down, tell him he will never have a serious relationship, he listens he fires back and his attitude changes ! He tries to change to quickly at first making bad decisions and even worse ones ! But he doesn’t give up and watching his journey is adorable, funny and at times damn right annoying ! Jean, is everything he needs and he is everything she does they have a bond like no other, but seem to live in a world of do they know ?!? Denial in its greatest art form and Kylie delivers ! The supporting cast as always are fabulous although there was a few times I wanted to reach in my kindle and shake Nell for being such a bitch ! There’s only so many times you can knock a man down ! And oh the Cameo for the Stage Dive boys perfection ! Another great read from Kylie 4 Stars Donna 4TLOReading |
Eric’s story. I wanted it and I didn’t. I could not see how the author could make him likable. Book 3 in the series, you finally get some character development for Eric. Previously a one-dimensional douche, he falls for Jean. Pregnant Jean. Selfish Eric. I think I fell in love with him when he fell in love with Jean’s baby. He showed a considerate and compassionate side, and lost his jerk nozzle status. He become so much more, it just clicked. Jean, I didn’t like her as much but the story is told from Eric’s POV. I’m think I’m being judgy because I wasn’t in her head and had to wait with Eric to figure out what she was feeling and thinking. She was really sweet but his relationship with the baby trumps his romance with Jean. This book is so funny and low drama. A slow build or maybe a slow burn? It’s worth it! Tons of chemistry. A really sweet story. And you have cameos from Stage Dive guys. Gold! |
I've loved each Dive Bar book so far but Chaser... just rocked my world! From the first page I was sucked in and glued to the very end, I just devoured this book. Kylie Scott = brilliance. You can read this as a standalone but I do recommend picking up Dirty & Twist so you can get to know the ins and outs of all the characters making appearances in each book. This book is a fun, sweet and very addictive love story. If you haven't met Eric yet, then you are missing out!! Do I recommend this book? Yes! Go "One-click" now! |
