Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this book. Unfortunately it’s not the book for me. DNF @ 9%.

I felt sad and frustrated with Merissa' s circumstance. I wanted to yell, no don't do that and run to your grandfather's. I enjoy shifter stories and felt so sorry for her. Can't wait to read the next in the series.

This is a fair and honest opinion of this book given to me by the publisher.

This story didn't catch my attention. The writing was fine, but the characters didn't have a lot of depth.
Not bad for a YA, though it felt like the writing was aimed for middle schoolers versus high schoolers. This was written in the classic background revelation of reveling as you go, which is nice for introducing a new world with a different style werewolf.
I think, that being said, I would have liked a more classic approach, but that is just my opinion.
Merissa is just trying to get through her life, clumsy and with a need to run wild, hating what she is and having no friends. Then Bree shows up.
If you adore YA with werewolves, this could be your cup of tea. I found it a bit boring.

Collars and Curses is the story of Merissa, who is a wolf shifter. She lives with her parents and goes to high school. No one else is like her and she has to hide who she is. One day she meets a girl named Bree that smells different than these other humans. When Bree tells her that she knows who she is and that Bree herself is a witch, Merissa's little bubble is burst. Bree uses her magic and kinda blackmails Merissa. The book was enjoyable.

This book was fast-paced and decently written, but it just really didn't hold my attention.

I liked Marissa, the non-human werewolf freshman in a town full of norms. Not only has she to fight with a bully in school, but the new girl in town - a witch with her own secret plan for Marissa's home town. Interesting and funny, Collars & Curses, was a good read. I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thanks to NetGalley and Brick Cave Books!

I thought the character building in this book was good, I liked the main character but did find a lot of the others didn't engage me at all. Definitely interested if there are further books in the series.
