Fans of dark, twisty suspense will ADORE this novel. I loved Emily Carpenter's first book, BURYING THE HONEYSUCKLE GIRLS, and it seems like with each subsequent book she continues to take things up a notch. Other reviewers have mentioned the interesting structure of EVERY SINGLE SECRET so I won't repeat it, but I will say that the structure works and keeps the reader's interest. We get to see how the past has impacted the present. The pacing is good and the ending payoff does not disappoint. I especially appreciated the creepy atmosphere and all the secrets!

I will always have a soft spot for Emily Carpenter and her novels because Burying the Honeysuckle Girls was one of the first books I read when I decided to create this blog. Her second book, The Weight of Lies remains a favorite of mine because of its amazing setting, and Every Single Secret was another great read by her.

This is the story of Daphne Amos, a young woman who believes she has found her soulmate in Heath, a mysterious man with whom she has a lot in common. Both Daphne and Heath are mysterious individuals who keep their secrets hidden from each other. And that has worked pretty well for them until Heath decides to work on his issues while spending a week in an isolated house in the woods, being treated by psychologist Dr. Cerny.

Every Single Secret was a slow-paced book at first, especially during the first half. However, I was captivated by the creepy setting, as Emily is a truly great writer and she creates the most wonderful atmospheres. You know there’s clearly something wrong going on, but you don’t know exactly what. How I love that feeling!

Despite the slower first half, the last 30% of the book was super thrilling and engaging, and the reveals turned the story into a gothic psychological thriller with a modern twist. I won’t spoil anything here, but the concept behind the novel was so smart and fascinating that I have been thinking about it since then. Still, I have to admit I kind of wanted something else to happen, but I will keep it to myself…

Every Single Secret is perfect for fans of modern gothic literature and psychology. Don’t miss my interview with the lovely Emily Carpenter that will be published later this week 💜

P.S THAT cover!

Every Single Secret is a thriller that begs the question “How long can you hide secrets from the one you love?”
Daphne and Heath are a couple who have secrets and until this point in the relationship they were ok keeping their secrets from one another. But when Heath starts having nightmares and knows he must reveal his secrets to move on and release his inner demons can Daphne handle the secrets that Heath has to share, and more importantly can Heath handler Daphne’s? This story was filled with plot twists that I, a seasoned reader, didn’t see coming. It was a fast enjoyable read! This is the second book that I have read by this author and I will keep checking her out!

4 Shhh, it’s a secret, stars to Every Single Secret! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Daphne has always been hard to get to know, but she let her guard down when she fell in love with the also guarded Heath. When Heath begins to have terrible nightmares, their relationship is put to the test.

They attend a retreat together where a psychologist claims to help people uncover repressed memories from their past, which is not something Daphne wants to confront.

There are too many rules at the retreat, and Daphne is instantly uncomfortable. What ensues is Daphne’s discovery of what the institute is really all about, and it’s not healing!

Overall, I found Every Single Secret to be an original, dark, twisty delight!

Thank you to Emily Carpenter, Lake Union, and Netgalley for the ARC. Every Single Secret is available now!

Every Single Secret by Emily Carpenter is a thriller that poses the questions of just how far one would go for love and should some secrets just stay buried. Daphne Amos has thought she’d found the love of her life in her fiance Heath but when Heath begins to have violent nightmares Daphne knows something is wrong.

Daphne and Heath were very alike in the fact they didn’t like to talk about their past and were very private people which was some of what brought them together. After Heath begins to have more and more episodes he approaches Daphne with the idea of joining him at a retreat run by Dr. Matthew Cerny.

Dr. Cerny is psychologist specializing in treating repressed memories which is just what Heath seems to need but the methods of treatment are what gives Daphne pause. The retreat is not only in a very remote location but they must turn over all electronics and will have cameras on them at all times. It isn’t long that Daphne realizes that things are not what they seem on the outside of the retreat.

Every Single Secret is one of those books that I feel if I try to explain the format in this one I will probably make it more complicated than it reads. There are time changes in the story that are clearly marked and not really hard to follow though starting on one day then jumping back a week with memories bringing up things further in the past and a back and forth between the present/past…. see, I’m confusing myself but it really wasn’t while reading.

Anyway…. this one wasn’t a bad read really but I found for me that starting off I didn’t quite connect with Daphne to really draw me into her story to really love this book as much as some seem to. The story isn’t a bad one but it wasn’t one that overly shocked me either along the way but it is one of those situations that you want to know the outcome making this one an alright read for me in the end.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

The concept of this book was very original. I've read a LOT of books but none like this. It kept me coming back to see what was gonna happen next. Turning pages while yelling at the characters to do what I felt they should. The way I yell during movies at home NOT to open that door or run into those DARK woods at night when everyone knows a killer is there! Duh lol.

Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this.

Emily, Emily, Emily Carpenter. You are a master at the fast-paced thriller. I loved "The Weight of Lies" and "Every Single Secret" was....beyond.

Daphne is a guarded and cautions women who has found a match with Heath. They are private people with dark pasts that they've hidden from everyone, including each other. Heath starts having increasingly disturbing nightmares that put a strain on their relationship.... Enter: Dr. Matthew Cerny.

I...I don't know how to even talk about the things that happen once Daphne and Heath arrive to the hidden manor. Keys are taken away, they are given instructions not to speak to the other guests, they are ON CAMERA the entire time they are there.....

Daphne wanders around after dark one night and realizes that this 'relationship retreat' is far from what is actually going on. Heath's past isn't just dark - it's psychologically disturbing.

Thanks to NetGalley, the publishers and Emily Carpenter for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Heath hasn't shared his past with his fiancee. Daphne hasn't shared her part with her fiance. Heath is having nightmares and decides they need to seek couple therapy at an out of the way mansion. Daphne doesn't want to have anything to do with any type of therapy but is willing to go to help Heath. Can you hear the scary music in the background? I did. It was there. Most of the book was heavy with a grave sense of foreboding, done well through a series of 3 timelines: the past, the final night, and the week progressing up to the last night. Sadly, I think one of Ms. Carpenter's key points regarding why people pick others as their victims got lost in the action of the story. I wish she had been able to spread out the final night a bit more to let each bit sink in before revealing the next bit of treachery, but still leaving the reader shell shocked at the end.

Fast paced, thrilling and twisty. This was a unique and creepy story that I enjoyed. Emily Carpenter is definitely one to watch!

Fast paced and suspenseful. I found the structure and reveals slightly strange, especially towards the end, but overall it was good. I much prefer Carpenter's other books.

Every Single Secret by Emily Carpenter is about Daphne and her fiancé Heath who go on a weeks retreat for couples. Both of them have had troubled childhoods and are keeping secrets from each other about their past. The house where the retreat is being held is old and creepy and the psychologist giving the therapy is not what he seems. There are a few twists and turns in the book and I read it in one day because I did not want to put it down. This is the first book I have read by this author and I will be looking out for more.
I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

Wow. This is the first book in a very long time that I somewhat literally couldn’t put down! (Thanks kindle app!)

10 hours, from start to finish. That includes all of the typical daily stuff a person has to do as well. Total reading time was probably around 4 hours.

This book is an addicting, all consuming, life altering, bar raising, work of freaking art. Can I give it more stars? Seriously? Five stars is insufficient.

This story of Daphne and Heath doesn’t follow your traditional thriller, or suspense novel... but it does both so well! I wouldn’t say there’s a lot of action in this book, but at the same time you’re completely drawn in, addicted to the pieces of information you’re hand fed.

I don’t know if Emily has more books out, but I’m hoping she does, because I need them all. And if she doesn’t, well.. watch out world. This one is a force to reckoned with.

What a marvelous dark gothic read! Trust me, you won't see the twist coming! Honestly, I would have never guessed! A must read this summer while camping or at the beach by the bond fire!

Daphne and Heath think they know one another- even though they also both know they are hiding secrets from each other. If they thought couples therapy at a creepy retreat was going to help them and HEath's nightmares, well they should have reflected a little longer before going. No spoilers but this does move back and forth in time to reveal the issues and it's just twisty enough that it kept me guessing. Thanks to Netgalley for the fast, entertaining read. Good one.

Daphne and Heath are engaged to be married. Both of them have dark histories that they prefer not to talk about. For Daphne this makes it a perfect relationship. No questions asked means not having to lie but how long can you keep your secrets buried?

Heath begins having terrible night terrors where he has broken things and has even harmed Daphne. He decides that in an effort to heal himself he has signed them up for a week long couples retreat held by Dr. Cerny. Daphne reluctantly agrees to attend against her better judgement. She loves this man and wants to help him anyway she can.

When they arrive at the crumbling mansion Daphne begins to get the feeling that not everything is as it seems. Not only are they high in the mountains and far from any civilization but Dr. Cerny has also confiscated their keys, phones, and monitors their every move by camera's placed through out their private quarters.

This book went in a direction I did not see coming. So chilling.

I enjoyed Every Single Secret from first page until last. Emily Carpenter is a new author to me but you better believe I'll be reading her other books after this one. This had just enough tension and suspense that keeps you completely engaged. 4.5 Stars!

I've mentioned to a few friends about how beautiful this cover is and once you read the book you'll see just how perfect it really is.

Thank you to NetGalley, Lake Union Publishing, and Emily Carpenter for providing me with a digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Daphne and Heath are to be married, but lately, Heath’s nightmares have been becoming so frequent and so violent, she wonders if she should go through with the marriage. Determined to find an answer, a reason for the nightmares, Heath finds a psychologist, Matthew Cerny, who says he can help Heath. Both Heath and Daphne will need to travel to a remote retreat with the doctor for some intense therapy in order to resolve Heath’s problems. Once at the retreat, any sign of civilization, or help, is cut off, as the doctor demands they hand over their phones and their keys. It becomes increasingly obvious that the good doctor is anything but, and that he will do anything to keep Heath from remembering.
