Emily Carpenter, Wow! This book really did leave me breathless. A fast paced psychological thriller of epic proportions. I was white knuckled and page turning like crazy while reading this stunning novel very late into the night. My eyes would start to close about 3 AM and I would force myself to stay awake for that “one more chapter”. I did not want to put it down nor want it to end, but raced for the ending because it was an addictive, thrilling and heart racing story.
Talk about a psychological mind <expletive>! Just the way I like it. The ending was AMAZING. I was shocked, out of breath and happy all at once.
I don't even know what say except WOW WOW WOW. I'm rarely speechless and I still have goosebumps when I think about it. If you love psychological thrillers this should be #1 on your list. 5/5

I have read Emily Carpenters two previous books, Burying the Honeysuckle Girls and The Weight of Lies, and loved them. So, it's with a heavy heart I have to confess that this book just didn't pull me in, in the same way as the previous two books did. It's not a bad story, with two main characters with secrets and a mysterious retreat where strange things happen. It's just that I failed to connect with the characters and the story never got really intense nor truly surprising.

I just feel that I would have preferred if the story hadn't the interludes from the future with Daphne Amos running away from the retreat and some man. That just gives the reader too much information about what will happen. And, the flashbacks to when Daphne was young never drawn me in either. The last part of the book was better, with a faster pace. Here finally I started to get the really interested in the story of the book.

I sound awfully negative, but I just had to explain why this book just didn't rock my boat as the previous two books did. On the plus side is the writing good (as usual), and there are good moments, especially towards the end when the truth is revealed. And I love the cover, it suits the book very well.

There is something compulsively readable about Emily Carpenter’s books, once I start them I have a difficult time putting them down. She creates the creepiest, most eerily atmospheric settings and she writes so well you find yourself completely immersed in the story, it’s as if you’re actually inside it yourself and experiencing it with the characters. It’s an unsettling experience to say the least, but one I wholeheartedly enjoy.

The whole idea of a couples retreat that focuses on therapy is unappealing to me and then when you throw in a weird atmosphere with uneasiness oozing from the pages? That’s a hard no from me, and Daphne had similar feelings but she went despite her reservations. You see, no one has ever understood her quite like Heath does, they have a hard and fast rule where they don’t discuss their pasts, ever, and this works for both of them. Until now. Until Daphne decides maybe it’s time to share her secrets with Heath and in turn he may share his as well. I loved knowing that they both had skeletons in their closets but not knowing what they were, it kept me extremely engaged and doubtful of the pair of them. I never could decide if I actually liked either of them, but they were both interesting, mysterious and highly complex.

Another thing that Carpenter excels at is the way the structures her books. The Weight of Lies had a book within a book, SO cool, and this time around she worked with flashbacks. You know how oftentimes flashbacks read as disjointed or confusing? Not the case here, it starts with a prologue that immediately reels you in and then skips back to a week earlier. It flips back and forth until the days catch up to each other and everything culminates in a shocking ending. Interspersed between these time jumps you slowly find out about Daphne’s past, Carpenter gives you a little tasty morsel to whet your appetite and then she cuts you off again, WHY does that work so well for me?! It just does, it has me hanging onto over single word, dying to know what will be revealed next.

I said Carpenter was the queen of southern gothic fiction in my review of her last book and that still stands here, she is immensely talented and she has a firm fan in me. I haven’t read any recent others that write quite like and I mean that as a huge compliment, she stands out from the crowd.

Every Single Secret in three words: Unsettling, Surprising and Absorbing.

Have you ever read a novel that from the beginning you feel like something is off, but you can’t figure out exactly what? That was me this entire novel. The author hooked me from the first page and it was a wild ride. The ending came barreling at me and left me reeling. I finished it late at night and had to refrain from the exclamations running through my head! It kept me up much later my thoughts churning long after I read the last word. This was definitely a psychological thriller that you don’t want to miss!

Yikes, this was a bit creepy and on the edge of the seat story. I don't read a lot of scary stories but this one kept me wanting more. All I can say is that Daphne is a very brave and curious person to be doing all the sleuthing in the mountain home they were staying in. The ending caught me by surprise and I was routing for her to safety the whole way. Phew....

I have to thank NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for letting me have a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

WOW!! This book blew me away. It had so many twists that I started thinking everyone was guilty of something. It’s an edge of your seat thriller for sure. It will make you cringe and cry in parts. It will hold your attention to the very last word on the very last page. It was that good.

Daphne started out life hard. He mother was a drug addict and would just up and leave her alone when she was just a little girl. When she grows up she meets Heath and they get engaged. He has a past that causes him much distress also. He wants to take her away for a week couple retreat and although she does not believe in therapy she agrees to go.

Once settled she becomes very suspicious of the place. The cameras that are on them most all the time. The secrets she finds. It’s all a bit much and she wants and needs to get away.

Heath has many secrets that he has kept from Daphne and she has secrets of her own. But she does not want to share her life secrets and thinks if they can just go home all will be ok. But will it. Can Heath get over the things he went through and make a life with Daphne? Or will he choose another way?

This book will hook you from the very first page and won’t let go even after you read the very last word. It’s one that you will truly enjoy reading and won’t want to skip a word. It’s wonderfully written with believable characters. Believable story. It’s definitely one of my favorites this year.

I loved The Honeysuckle Girls by the same author and this one. Now I can’t wait to read more by this awesome author. You have to read this book. It’s wonderful. It will dig down into your deepest recesses. It won’t let go.

A big 5 stars for this awesome book. Loved it.

This was a very creepy, edge of your seat thriller about couples therapy. It takes place in a very remote location for
an entire week with cameras watching their every move. They have no communication with the outside world, so the time seemed to go by even more slowly. There were lots of "surprises" along the way that had me on the edge of my seat!
Great writing, suspenseful drama and many twists and turns make this an awesome read. Congratulations Emily Carpenter on a 5 star winner!

I loved this creepy fast paced book!!! I read it in one day as I couldn't put it down! The characters were amazing! Daphne and Heath have so many dimensions and surprised me several times! There are so many secrets and as they are revealed it's shocking! I did not see the ending coming at all! This was a suspenseful creepy book that was just an exciting ride! I received an advanced readers copy from NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing. All opinions are my own.

Dark, disturbing and a wow ride. Ms. Carpenter has gained a new follower with Every Single Secret.

There are so many places in this book where I held my breath just waiting for a discovery of someone's acts or for something terrible to happen that the tension just built like crazy.

When something big did happen, I was not let down. This one will leave you guessing and also, if you're like me, yelling HELLO - what made this seem like a good idea????

The ending wasn't anything I'd been geared up to expect which made this story all that much better.

Thanks very much to Netgalley for an early copy.

Interesting, intriguing and twisted. I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley.
This was my first time reading a book by this author. The cover and title pulled me to read this story. I had not read the blurb before jumping in.
This story kept me on the edge of my seat, wanting to know what would happen next. By the time I finished reading this story I was contented with the ending. After reading Every Single Secret I feel inclined to pick up the author’s other books to see what other stories she’s written. #EverySingleSecret #NetGalley

“You are both damaged. Both beyond repair. But together, you make something whole.”
Daphne Amos and Heath Beck by all appearances seem to be soul mates who live with an unspoken agreement not to discuss their pasts. Heath has nightmares that cause him to do destructive things, such as breaking windows, and decides to seek the help of therapist, Dr. Cerny, in a remote location in the mountains for a week-long couples retreat. Daphne agrees to accompany him but not participate in the therapy sessions. Will the things that Daphne learns about Heath from an ex-girlfriend effect their relationship? Has Heath told her the truth in the few things that he did share with her? Is anything really the way it seems? Will the secrets of Heath’s past destroy Daphne’s idyllic notion of “always us”?

I like Daphne, she has a spunk to her that draws me in though she takes chances that make me anxious for her.

Every Little Secret is a creepy thriller that draws you in and holds on tight to the last page. I read it one day it was that captivating. If you enjoyed Best Day Ever by Kaira Rouda, then you’ll want to read this book!

This has been posted on my website: http://www.steenaholmes.com/steena-reads-emily-carpenter/

You know when you read a book and there’s a little giggle inside of you when you finish it…a giggle that has nothing to do with how ‘funny’ the book was but how delicious of a read it was…even when there’s death involved? (and if you say, no, you have no idea…then I guess that means I’m a little whacked…)
Every Single Secret by Emily Carpenter gave me that giggle and that chill I have a feeling she was going for.
The writing is delicious…you don’t skip over the words, you spend your time with the scenes, looking for all the little clues you know she’s left and realizing you probably haven’t found half of them. Throughout the book I kept repeating to myself…”break the mirror” even though I didn’t have a clue what it meant, but it was so good, it stayed with me as I turned every page.
Now, you know by now I’m not a spoiler kind of reader. Nor am I the type to replay everything that happens in the book. I prefer to share with you how I felt reading it…and reading Every Single Secret filled all those places I was looking for in a book. There was mystery and relationships and miscommunication and fear. There was questions and information and challenges and even periods of frustration.
Was the story believable? For sure. Will I go on a couples retreat without doing my own due diligence – not on your life!
Emily Carpenter writes within a place of fear – acutely aware of placing her readers in the precise locations they need to be in order to fully experience her books. I have always been a fan and even more so now.
Do I think you should read it? Absolutely! Order it today and be prepared…

Read this book in a day! Totally riveting and wild and crazy ride. Love Emily!

From the very first page you'll suspect Daphne and Heath's relationship isn't what it seems, that the couples-therapy week in an old house up a mountain (complete with Big Brother style cameras everywhere) more than likely isn't going to help their issues...

Edgy, twisty, and utterly compelling, with a setting that'll give you a myriad of goosebumps, EVERY SINGLE SECRET had me flipping the pages. I, too, had to know everything Daphne and Heath were hiding from each other, and themselves, and what would happen when they revealed their truths.

Thank you to the author for an advanced copy (may I please have the honor of reading advanced copies of all your future novels?) :-)

This fast past thriller had me hooked from the first page to the last. I was tense as I turned the pages - wanting to find out what happened next but afraid to find out. The setting was fantastic and made the story even more intense.

Engaged couple, Daphne and Heath go away to a couples retreat because Heath has been having nightmares and they want to find out why. They are total soul mates and appear to have a fantastic life together despite the fact that they both keep secrets about their past. They claime that the past didn't matter and that their future together is all that matters. Daphne refuses to go through the program but goes to a deserted retreat to help Heath as he goes through intensive psychological treatment. Daphne is uneasy about the entire set-up with cameras in the rooms and not being allowed to talk to the other participants in the program. As the week goes on, her unease continues to grow and what happens at the retreat will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end.

This is a creepy thriller that will keep you tense through out the book. It's Emily Carpenter at her best.

Thanks to the publisher for a copy of this book to read and review. All opinions are my own.

Wow! I completely got sucked in to this story! The author did an amazing job setting the scene at the institute where Daphne and Heath went for his therapy. I felt like it had a very Alfred Hitchock-esque type feel to it - it gave me goosebumps to read the descriptions of the old mansion. I found myself holding my breath several times throughout this book. I really liked that this book was not predictable- there were several parts of the story where I thought "whoa, didn't see that coming!" This was the first book I've read that was written by Emily Carpenter - after my experience with this book I will definitely be seeking out more of her books! I received an ARC via NetGalley.

How have I not read Emily Carpenter before? Her latest, Every Single Secret, is creepy at its finest! This psychological thriller is about Daphne and Heath, an engaged couple who go to a secluded mountain retreat for couples therapy. Their relationship has always been superficial, as they each have secrets to hide. After Heath begins suffering from nightmares about his past, he insists they must go on the retreat in order to save their relationship. Daphne agrees to go, but not to attend therapy. She is especially put off by their host’s very strange rules, which she ignores. While Heath endures intense therapy, Daphne goes on a snooping adventure that leads to a fight for her life. The reader will be shocked by the secrets that emerge.

Wow! If you want a crazy ride that will have you on the edge of your seat, this book one is for you!
"I am who I am. We are who we are." This is the statement that sets the tone to this amazing novel, but the real question is "Who are these people?"
This is what the readers will find out as the chapters progress and they go to "dangerous and unknown places."
I had no idea what was truly happening until the last piece of information was revealed and it more than held my interest while I was holding my breath most of the time!
