I voluntarily read an Advance Review Copy of this book through Netgalley. The book is well written and entertaining, especially the banter between Devlin and Sophie. The book involves danger in that someone is trying to set Devlin up with being a suspect in several murders with the end being the death of Devlin. Sophie is his staunches supporter and goes about trying to solve the mystery. In all that is happening they form a strong bond and eventually have a HEA. The book is a great read full of mystery, danger and murder and I would highly recommend it.

This was such a fun read, full of humour, intrigue and scandal. This was the first I've read in this genre and it was a lovely surprise indeed. Sophie was a wonderful character, a young lady with some quite modern ideas for the times. She was such fun to read and you never knew what she was going to get up to. Devlin was a charming character 'The devil duke' as he is known by all, a totally scandalous character or so people believe. I'd happily have that rake court me. There were some great lines between these two characters, some had me laugh out loud. The characters were all well written, and I thought I knew who the bad guy was so I was pleasantly surprised to find I was wrong. Very enjoyable and I look forward to reading more by Maddison Michaels.

Thank you to Netgalley and Entangled Publishing Amara for a copy in return for an honest review.

Devlin Markham or the 'Devil Duke' as people call him is a notorious rake, but now he needs a wife and the only woman he has in mind is Lady Sophie. However, the lady seems to be the only woman he can't seem to charm. But luckily, there's something she wants and that's to save the orphanage she gives much of her time to and he has the means to help her. Will a marriage of convenience be enough for Lady Sophie; or will Devlin wake up and see that they have a real chance at happy ever after before it's too late, especially when someone is determined to take everything from him?

What a wonderfully-crafted and highly entertaining read Ms. Michaels has delivered in this Historical Romance that encompasses two incredible main characters that I could not get enough of; and a fantastic combination of playful banter between Devlin and Sophie and intense moments due to the main characters back stories that had me reading quickly determined to discover whether these two would get their happy ever after, especially considering the person determined to take everything from the hero.

The way this story started drew me into the story immediately because of what Sophie and Devlin are doing. Devlin being the notorious rake that he is, it was interesting to see what he was like before he comes face-to-face for the first time with Lady Sophie. However, this story really takes off when Devlin and Sophie meet again after their initial meeting because Devlin wants Sophie to be the one he marries and he'll do anything to get her to agree. Moreover, the heroine is resilient, courageous and I liked how much of a challenge she provided the hero because she's determined to discover what's going on with someone she considers a friend and to help Devlin discover who is out to get him, no matter how dangerous things get. I also liked the relationship she shares with her family, as her aunt is quirky and wanting to see her settled with a man while her brother is overprotective and isn't afraid to stand up to Devlin.

While the hero, he's confident, cocky and I just loved him from the moment he was introduced into this story, as he has quite the reputation, but is determined to do anything he can to make it better. I also liked how determined he was to win Sophie over, even though it seems he'll use any means necessary to get what he wants. Yet, what I liked most of all about the hero was how charming he could be and I loved how he interacted with the heroine and the heroine's aunt; and I also liked how protective the hero was of the heroine because he doesn't want anything to happen to her.

Overall, Ms. Michaels has delivered an utterly fantastic read in this book where the pages flew by because of the intense chemistry between this couple and the delightful romance that had me loving these two together. As for the ending of this book, I loved it because of the lengths the hero went to for the heroine to protect her and the fact that he finally realizes how much Sophie means to him. I would recommend The Devilish Duke by Maddison Michaels, if you enjoy the marriage of convenience trope, the blackmail trope or books by authors Kelly Bowen, Christi Caldwell, Elizabeth Bright and Amalie Howard.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Lady Sophie Wolcott is known as an eccentric bluestocking in Victorian England. She has been in love with her best friend’s brother since childhood determined to spy on him, she climbs a tree only to witness him propose to another woman. Before she can escape to nurse her wounded heart a couple with amorous intentions arrive. Sophie falls from the tree to land at the feet of the Devil Duke himself.
A year passes and the Devil Duke, Devlin Markham, returns to London. Queen Victoria refuses to agree to his business plan unless he marries an acceptable woman. The only woman he can see himself with is the spunky woman who fell out of a tree. Determined to marry her, he will do whatever it takes.
Lady Sophie is passionate about the orphanage her mother supported. When the orphanage is threatened she agrees to a marriage of convenience with the Devil Duke. Unbeknownst to them both, danger is lurking with a murderer intent on Lady Sophie.
I really enjoyed this book. The relationships are well-drawn, and the dialogue is witty. I particularly enjoyed the verbal sparring between Sophie and Devlin. The mystery kept me guessing and I was surprised to learn who the murder it was. The story is well crafted and intriguing with heated romantic interludes.

Maddison Michael’s The Devilish Duke reminds me of why I love historical fiction so much. It was a masterful blend of historical romance with mystery and intrigue.

Lady Sophia Wolcott is widely known for being a beautiful but eccentric member of high society. Determined not to marry, she frequents social events to solicit donations to support her local charity for orphans. The Duke of Huntington, Devin Markum, is known for being a unapologetic rake and philanderer. Together, they form an unlikely alliance that has the ton in an uproar and a killer on a rampage.

It has been a while since I’ve been this excited about an author. It was a refreshing read that did not disappoint. The characters pulled you into the story and the pace was on point. There were intricate details that I appreciated without feeling like the story line suffered. I highly recommend Maddison Michael and The Devilish Duke.

I received an advance reader copy from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. I enthusiastically give it a thumbs up and 5 stars.

I really enjoyed this debut novel by Maddison Michaels. Sophie, the heroine is the witty, courageous friend I want in my corner, and Devlin is the perfect rake. The pace is quick, the author presents the Victorian era well, and I love a little mystery with my romance.

I really liked this historical read. Devlin, is ordered by the Queen to give up his rakish ways. Sophie has no plans to marry and only care about the orphanage that her mother supported. However, when the orphanage is in trouble she has no choice to make a deal with Devlin. They agree to marry and as they spend time together their attraction grows but someone is after Sophie. Can they discover who it is in time? This read really draws you in. The story is fast paced with great characters and an entertaining story. I loved it!

Thanks Entangled Publishing, LLC and netgalley for this ARC.

This romance just did not work for me. It was stilted, predictable, and just plain boring.

This was a delightful romance, with a charming h and delicious H. Loved how this story developed, with a sweet almost spinster and a rake who agree on a marriage of convenience, though both are immensely attracted to each other. As they spend more time together, the relationship develops and they grow closer, understanding each other more fully. Sure, it takes liberties with the time period, but the story was so entertaining, I didn’t care. Of course, there’s a HEA, and a mystery weaves throughout the story with a surprise twist. I received a free arc in exchange for an honest review.

Ms. Michaels weaves an engrossing tale.
Lady Sophie Wolcott runs an orphanage and solicits donations constantly to protect her charges.
An accidental meeting with 'The Devil Duke' on one of her worst nights, leads to conflict and attraction between them. He must marry...and she is the ideal candidate. When she refuses his first offer, he makes sure she won't refuse the next.
They investigate the murder of one of her former charges and find much more darkness then either expected. In trying to protect each other, they come to realize the love they feel for each other is stronger than anything else.
Told with mystery, angst, romance and sensual scenes.
This is not-to-be-missed.
I requested and was granted an AARC from NetGalley for my opinion.

The Devilish Duke by Maddison Michaels is the story of Devlin Markham and Lady Sophie Wolcott.
Sophie thought herself in love and when she climb a tree to spy on him to see why he took a lady upstairs she found he offering the lady marriage. Heartbroken she ended up falling from the tree to right after spying Devlin with a married women. There Devlin helped to make sure she was okay along with having some bickering going on between the two.
Now a year later Devlin has not seen Sophie since that one time after she fell from the tree but she has been on his mind. When he is meeting with Queen Victoria to ask for their signature on a contract to install telegraph lines, the Queen confronts him about his reputation and disregard for his title.
Devlin will have to clean up his reputation via marriage and Sophie would be the prefect choice. Devlin and Sophie come to a deal to help both of their causes but can they still to keep emotions out of it?
Really enjoyed this book and will look for more by this author!

I definitely prefer the hero to the heroine in this story. Devlin Markham, the Duke of Huntington lives up to his name as the Devil Duke, he keeps up that facade but his heart is not black as he would like the ton to believe.
Lady Sophie Wolcott has a kind heart, a humanitarian. but she takes unnecessary risks detrimental to her person and reputation. For someone who has an Earl for a brother and a Duke for a betrothed, she rushes headlong sleuthing thereby risking her life, limbs and her good name. She should have seek assistance from these powerful men in her life who deeply cares for her safety to help her ferret out the villain.
What I like most is the murder-mystery element in this narrative! It's so well-done. There are a couple of red herrings before the real evils were revealed!
This is an NetGalley arc which I voluntarily read and reviewed honestly.

A marvelous debut novel for Maddison Michaels!!! Skillfully plotted and full of romance and a mystery to be solved, I really could not put this one down. Using the setting of the Victorian era, there is even a meeting with Queen Victoria and our hero, Devlin Markham, the (Devil) Duke of Huntington. When a story starts out and I find myself laughing out loud pretty quickly, I know I am in for a great read. Lady Sophie Wolcott is in love and she finds herself up in a tree spying on her beloved proposing to a lady and is devastated. What is funny is that she is at a party and as she tries to quietly climb down, she falls into the bushes and that is when she meets the Devil Duke. That meeting is very important to the story because it becomes the bases for them meeting again a year later. Sophie is a bluestocking whose main interest is in an orphanage she supports that her mother had started. Devoted to raising funds and helping every child possible she is a feisty, outspoken heroine who has decided she will never marry or fall in love after seeing her mother devastated by her philandering father. Devlin on the other hand feels the same but is pushed into marriage in order to fund his business venture and be shown as a reformed rake. Sophie is the only choice of wife that Devlin can even consider and Sophie will benefit with hugh funding for her orphanage. What could be more perfect? Two people not wanting to fall in love and both benefiting from the union. Well that is when the adventure and mystery begin. Murder, disappearing objects and a growing attachment between Sophie and Devlin had me entrenched in the story. This author made the characters come to life and the secondary characters were delightful. Prepare to be thoroughly mesmerized as you read this wonderful story of fate taking a hand in bringing two people together and their journey to happiness. I cannot wait for more stories from this author!!

The Devilish Duke is one of those books which have everything, romance, intrigue, suspense, mystery, rakish hero, independent and strong heroine, and a lot more. It's a really well-written historical fiction, the kind of book which has the ability to make you fall in love with the genre. I genuinely enjoyed reading it, especially because of the characters. They are all amazing and fun to read about.

Devlin and Sophie's first encounter was a year ago, and it wasn't something either of them could forget, although for different reasons. For Devlin it was strange to meet a woman who could resist his charm and he simply could not forget the way she had behaved around him, censoring him like no other person ever had or since.. For Sophie it was simply embarrassing.... but neither could forget it.

Now Devlin is back and in need of a wife. The first and only woman who comes to his mind is Lady Sophie. And he is the man who gets what he wants one way or the other. He has decided to marry her so he will. On the other hand, the lady in question isn't thrilled about the prospect of marrying a known rake, however, she wants something only he could give... So will she agree to this farce of a marriage or not?

While this is the romance side of the story, there is also a mystery unfolding. One of Sophie's ex-orphan has gone missing living behind a trail of mischief and mayhem. What happened to her and how is it related to either Devlin or Sophie is a question which will plague the readers for quite some time. But we will have our answers eventually...

It's a great read. I loved it and would recommend it to all readers who enjoy mixed genres, especially historical fiction.

Bedeviled!

Our first, and Devlin Markham, the infamous “Devil Duke” of Huntington's first introduction to Lady Sophie Wolcott is rather intriguing! After all how many debutantes land at your feet, from a branch overhead, just as about your pleasant interlude with a dashing wife (someone else's of course) was well underway.
And the pace doesn't let up from here! Twelve months later, Huntington finds himself under royal decree to marry and Sophie springs to mind. Sophie finds herself in rather a tough place. The orphanage she supports is under threat and it seems "the Devil Duke" might have an answer? Or is this an opportunistic move on the Duke"s part?
Strong main characters, an interesting plot and quite a few laughs, amongst the heated romantic interludes makes this an enjoyable read.

A NetGalley ARC
