Though I began by being interested in the MC, Laura Lee, I soon had major issues with the plot and the historical details. I had a hard time believing a farmer prosperous enough to hire all his help would at the same time be unable to add on another small bedroom to his house over the summer at some point. I found the situation of women wearing his trousers to be odd and unlikely, as too-large trousers would surely have been less modest than one's own dress for horseback, and definitely would be scandalous in town (most especially as a single woman living in a single man's house and borrowing his attire).

Then the juvenile hemming and hawing about whether or not to commit to each other and the modern attitudes toward customs, as well as the modern phrases that occasionally slipped in, was enough to deprive me of a "time-travel" experience and to drop my rating.

This book was just okay for me. There wasn't anything specific but it just did not hold my interest. I did end up finishing it, but it took several tries. The story ended up being somewhat satisfying to me, just didn't hold my interest.

Baby On Her Doorstep Is a wonderful story. It has just what it says - a baby at the doorstep of Mrs. Lee. She has always prayed that God would always give her one - a sweet little baby and here one shows straight up at her doorstep - the school's doorstep - one morning all dressed up in a basket and a letter directed to her - a baby. Is this child legally hers? Will the lady at the boarding house let her keep the baby? If not what is going to happen to the baby? Is she going to keep the baby? If she does where she going to go with the baby? All that is safe and true is God and the baby.

Laura found something wrapped in a blanket on the one-room schoolhouse step. When she actually got to the doorstep she looked down into the sweet rosy cheeked child who was sound asleep. Pinned to the blanket was a note asking Laura to take care of this child as the person knew Laura was kind and would make a good mother. The child was a little girl who was a year old named Hope. Hope was small for her age but the note said she was in good health and a good eater. Laura wondered if her landlady would let her stay there since she had a no children's policy. It had been four years since Laura’s husband Charles had died and now she was given a child to raise. Thinking about Charles gave Laura a fresh wound to her heart, how she disappointed him when she found out she could not have children. Laura went to the sheriff to see if legally she could keep hope. He said he would have to look for her parents and then Judge Miller would be in town and he would make the final decision but until then she could keep Hope with her. The landlady would only let Laura stay for the rest of the week as she had already paid but then she would have to go. Then the sheriff sent a rancher to talk to Laura as Clint/the rancher needed a Nanny for his two year old daughter Gracie or his Housekeeper/Cook was going to quit. Laura accepted the job until school starts again. Laura went to Clint’s ranch to look after Gracie and Hope who had become quick friends. Now Clint lived with four females-His Irish housekeeper, Laura, Grace and Hope and they had begun to boss him around on his own ranch. But they also were stealing his heart at the same time. Clint had vowed he would never marry again. Not after his heart broke when he lost his wife Martha as he never wanted to go through that pain again. Then Laura and the housekeeper sat down and talked and Laura learned she had gave birth to three children but they had all passed away before they were three years old. Finally Laura and the housekeeper bonded and became friends. As time went on Clint found Hope had crawled into his heart but so had Laura. But Laura was to leave with Hope when school started again.
I liked this story a lot. I liked how Laura and Clint interacted then I was happy when they both started to care for each other. I loved the two little girls and how Gracie made friends with Hope right away in her little girl way. Also how Gracie was so good to hope for as young as she was. I love how the sheriff had suggested Laura to Clint finding answers to the problems they had. Gracie and Hope definitely added a lot to this book. I liked that Clint and Laura slowly built a romance with each other no insta/lust/love. I found this a refreshing Christian read. I also liked Laura had lived on a farm before so could help it she was really needed. Liked the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend.

Baby on Her Doorstep was a cute story and written well, but I wasn't a fan of the ending. Things wrapped up too perfectly and it just didn't seem believable.

I enjoyed the mystery of who left the baby on the doorstep and I didn't expect that story to play out the way it did. I liked both of the main characters and the girls were cute. :) I found it adorable how they got along so well with each other immediately.

All in all, Baby on Her Doorstep was a nice read.

Widowed school teacher Laura Lee is surprised when she finds a child on her doorstep, with a not asking her to care for 1yr old Hope. Laura has always wanted children, but it just never happened, she is excited at the thought of being able to raise a child, but she is cautious.

Meanwhile widowed rancher, Clint Shepard, is a single father to 2yr old Grace. He is a good father, but he could use some help, is housekeeper convinces him to go to town and ask Laura to help out with Grace.

As Clint and Laura get to know each other they wonder if God is giving them a second chance at love?

Grace and Hope instantly become friends, Grace is very outgoing and excited to have a friend. Hope is more shy, but Grace encourages her to try new things.

Laura sees Clint and how kind he is to her and the girls, treating Hope just like his own daughter. I love how their relationship grows as they care for the girls together, picnicking, fishing, rising horses, the communicate well, and admire each other's character.

Laura has a big heart, and she welcomes Hope with open arms. She is a woman of faith, compassion, and determination.

Clint is a good man who lives his faith, he is brave and rushes to the rescue, but fears that his mistakes will keep him from finding love again.

I love the characters in this book from Clint and Laura to the girls and the persnickety housekeeper, there is great interaction, and I love how the plot comes together. Enjoyable read!

Widowed schoolteacher Laura Lee didn’t believe she’d ever have a child, until a desperate mother left her one-year-old, Hope, in her care. Soon she has another child in her charge, the motherless Grace, when Grace’s rancher father Clint hires Laura as his little girl’s nanny. A golden summer follows, with Hope and Grace filling Laura and Clint with as much joy as they find in each other, and God. Troubles do occur, of course, but they are easily resolved in this mild, tender little romance set on the Texas frontier that makes you smile in the moment, and then immediately forget. And sometimes that is all you’re looking for, isn’t it? – Maura Tan

2 1/2 stars.

Sorry but I couldn't get into the book at all. I tried though, I'm so sorry for my ADD brain.

I started this book a little distracted, as the heroine shares her name with one of publishing’s most famous erotic romance writers. This wasn’t the best choice for a chaste Christian book!
Baby on Her Doorstep has all the hallmarks of Harlequin’s Christian romance line: the abandoned child, the match of convenience, the single father trying to make ends meet in the 19th century Wild West.
I struggled to connect with the story in the beginning, because all the plot points seemed to be happening in a hurry, before we got to know or like these characters.
In the space of about an hour:
• The heroine finds an abandoned baby, with a note attached telling her to care for her.
• She meets with the sheriff, who gives her permission to keep the baby (it occurs to nobody to find out why the child was abandoned, or find the mother).
• She meets the hero and his daughter.
• The hero offers her a job.
• Hero, heroine, and both children go out to lunch.
After that there’s a time jump where we discover she has accepted the job and is moving in with him.
If you like books with these themes, there’s nothing wrong with this one, but it felt more like paint-by-numbers than others I’ve read in the Love Inspired Historical series.

What a wonderful book. The antidotes of Rebekah Hardin takes many different changes in this story. Enjoy Kim’s writing style. Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for letting me read and review this story.
