I love all Lisa Unger books and this was no exception. All the twists and turns had my head spinning but in a good way. I recommend this book to anyone who loves twisty thrillers.

Unfortunately, this one didn't hold my attention. It's a DNF for me. Thank you for the opportunity to be a reader and a reviewer.

A year ago Poppy’s husband was murdered while on a jog. Now when Poppy dreams, she has ‘memories’ of things that happened during his murder and she tries to piece them together to find out what actually happened.
For me, this book was just ok. It did keep me guessing but I didn’t feel like I needed to get back to reading this book immediately.
Thank you #netgalley for an advanced copy of this book.

Under My Skin is a psychological thriller/suspense/mystery and the story takes place in Manhattan with Poppy as our narrator and Jack her husband who was killed.

Poppy was a verifiable hot mess. She has balckouts, disappearnace, lapses of time, hallucinations and crazy dreams. I kept trying to figure out what was real and what wasn't. I just love a great unreliable narrator. I feel as if they keep me on my toes. The mystery was enjoyable and I wondered what did actually happen to her husband.

This was certainly a page turner but I feel like the end of the book let me down a bit. The twist was great and unexpected but the beginning was definitely more readable for me.

Thanks to Netgalley and Park Row for allowing me to read and review this book.

Poppy Lang is grieving the tragic loss of her husband, Jack in a brutal street crime one year ago. She turns to drugs and alcohol to numb the pain and keep away the nightmares. Poppy dreams of Jack, bloodied and beaten, and all the things she could have done differently to change that morning he died. She also dreams of a woman, broken and bloodied, who states she knew her husband. Poppy begins to suspect that someone - a hooded man - is following her. As Poppy digs further into the past year, more questions occur than answers. Was Jack having an affair? Was that what led to his death? Is she really going crazy?

I was confused for most of this book. Poppy was in such a state that I found it hard to tell if she was remembering past details, dreaming, or if it was her reality right now. I suppose that made it a very suspenseful thriller! The ending wasn't as much of a shock as it should have been, but it did tie everything up neatly. This was definitely an entertaining book, but it was hard to follow and keep up with.

Poppy's husband, Jack, was brutally murdered. After the funeral, she had disappeared for four days, only to reappear at her friend's home with no memory beyond occasional flashes of what happened during those days. Now, it's a year later and, despite counselling, she is still having problems distinguishing what is real and what is just the result of the drugs and alcohol that she has been using to dull her grief. She is not sure, for instance, whether she is being stalked or she is just imagining the man in the black hoodie who seems to always show up wherever she goes.

Under My Skin is a well-written, well-plotted psychological thriller by Lisa Unger. A bit confusing at times trying to distinguish between Poppy's reality, flashbacks, and drug-induced hallucinations but, of course, that was the intent. Overall, a real page-turner, one that kept me up at night trying to guess who dunnit it.

Phew! This was one twisty, psychological mind blowing story. Felt reminiscent of “The Sinner” with Jessica Biel (in structure, not plot).

Prepare to be stumped. This one will leave you reeling, never knowing what is real and what’s not.

This was a 5 star read for me up until Part 2 where I feel like the story lost some steam.

Lisa Unger is a fabulous, suspenseful storyteller!

Copy provided by publisher, thank you.

I've always been a fan of Lisa Unger and this book doesn't disappoint. The bone-chilling suspense, the layered characterizations are all there. When Poppy's husband Jack, is murdered during his morning jog, Poppy's life falls apart and she quickly is caught up in a riptide of grief and despair. To complicate matters, she is also having blackouts and she fears her memory is playing tricks on her. Does she really know something about what happened to Jack?It seems implausible to her, but she wonders if she could in any way be responsible for his death. Don't miss this terrific thriller from the talented Ms. Unger.

Another unputdownable story from one of the best suspense writers working today. Lisa Unger scares like nobody's business!

This book was SUCH a page-turner and I could not put it down! Poppy Lang is a widow who lost her husband in a random brutal attack while he was running in Central Park. In the months after her husband's death, Poppy relies on booze and pills to keep going (and I use the term "keep going" very loosely).. With no suspects or leads, the police seem at a dead-end to find her husband Jack's killer. And to make matters worse, Poppy seems to be hallucinating, seeing things as well as people and situations that aren't really there. Poppy starts losing her sense of reality and dreaming, loses time and memories, and becomes convinced she is being followed . As her memories and clues start to be uncovered, Poppy begins to wonder if she really knew her husband as well as she thought she did. Meanwhile, Poppy's best friends Layla and Mac are terrified that their friend is really losing her mind and are desperate to help her. Poppy decides that in order to move on with her life, she needs to uncover the truth about her husband's death...at all costs.

From the first few pages, I was hooked on this book. I found myself questioning my own feelings and wondered how I would be able to cope with (God forbid) such a tragic loss. Would I be as terrified but brave like Poppy, or would I just totally lose it? If you are a fan of super fast-paced thrillers, you DEFINITELY do not want to miss this one!. I can't wait to read all of Lisa Unger's other books.

4 out of 5 stars for Under My Skin by Lisa Unger.

A huge thanks to the author and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book!

I am sorry for not reviewing fully but I don’t have the time to read this at the moment. I believe that it wouldn't benefit you as a publisher or your book if I only skimmed it and wrote a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for not fully reviewing!

I liked this book, though I found the ultimate resolution slightly disappointing. I was expecting more twists and turns.

Though I am a huge thriller genre fan, this was my first Lisa Unger book. I was drawn in immediately. Poppy’s husband was murdered one morning and has been lost in her grief. She ends up self medicating. Between the alcohol and the pills, she seems to hallucinate at times, believing she is being stalked. The book is told from Poppy’s point of view that alternate between past, present and nightmares and/or memories. This is definitely a book that you have to pay attention and read every single word, sometimes multiple times. If you try to skim read, you will end up lost. Overall, I enjoyed the book.

I love Lisa Unger but I had a tough time reading this one. I couldn't get into it. I never knew what was real and what wasn't. I didn't like the format. I didn't like the characters. Honestly? I didn't like anything about this book, which is unfortunate. I won't stop reading Unger, every author is going to have a dud once in awhile, and this was hers.

Poppy’s husband was murdered while out for a run. Shortly after, Poppy shows up at her friend’s home intoxicated with no recollection of what happened. The first half of the book is Poppy trying to cope with the death of her husband. It’s full of discussions with her best friend Layla and appointments with her psychologist. She struggles with popping too many pills and mixing those pills with alcohol to cope with the pain which makes her memories even more disjointed. I struggled to get through the first half of the book, but was actively engaged about halfway through trying to figure out how all the pieces fit together.

In this book nothing is what it seems. Poppy Lang's husband was killed while jogging in the park a year ago. Since this happened she has been in a deep state of grief, taking sleeping pills and other pills, drinking, and trying to get through her day-to-day life. But things are happening to Poppy. Are these things real or is she dreaming, or as her therapist calls it micro-sleep. She is continually reliving the last morning with her husband, coming up with different scenarios that would change the outcome of his death. She is recalling memories or are they dreams? This book definitely keeps you guessing until the end.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Hanover Square Press through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

MY THOUGHTS:
I'm going to keep this short because I wasn't that big of a fan of this book.

I found this book... confusing. I understand that it was supposed to be confusing because we are reading from the Main Character's perspective and she has had a nervous breakdown and is confused. But I also feel like this could have been done without making me feel so confused! (How many times can I say confused/confusing? But seriously, it sums up my reaction.)

I got frustrated with everyone being perfect and rich. Yes, that started to unravel toward the end, but it was too little too late for me. Some sections dragged and I found myself skimming. It just wasn't for me.

MY RATING:
Overall: 2 stars

A totally engrossing read with many twists and turns along the way. How can we be sure what is real and what is dream in this compelling story?

Too many things happening recently got in the way of my reading time but once I started this book I found myself picking it up for just a little bit more whenever I could.
