I truly had a bit of a hard time with this book so sadly, I DNFd it. I'm willing to give it another try at a later date.

This was an amazing fast paced story that I really enjoyed once I got into it. I can’t wait for the second book! I definitely recommend this one!!!

Don't get me wrong, I am really into books about angels, hell one of my favourite series of all time is the Guild Hunter Series by Nalini Singh. But the thing about angel books is that you have to write them in just the right way so that they don't come across... wrong (?). Unfortunately, in my opinion, this book was not written in that way.

It came across more as a Supernatural/ The Mortal Instruments fanfiction. I found the writing stilted, many of the character interactions cringey and aspects of the plot taken directly from the above sources.

It seems there was also an attempt at representation of mental illness, namely depression and PTSD, but it was very poorly done. In the very first chapter, Asteria is preparing to commit suicide before being interupted by a smug Micah. And apparently that's all she needed to be pulled out of her "depression" because she never experiences those compulsions again. Later on in the book, Asteria experiences a trauma and subsequently PTSD. And how do they help her through it, you ask? They recreate the trauma in an attempt to "help her through it" which ends up just making it worse. They never once consider therapy or anything of the sort.

It seems that there will be more books in this series, but unfortunately I can't see myself continuing on. One book was plenty.

Asteria: Into the Fray is a great mixture of fantasy with religious iconography.

The premise of the book is really interesting, I liked the aspect of the prophecy that it a three person prophecy and not just everything on one person shoulders. 

There are some great action moments as Asteria and Micah battle Azazel and evil band of demons, fallen angels  and Sorceress. 

The book packs a lot into its 270 pages, sometimes it feels that everything is happening very quickly. One moment Asteria doesn't no she is a descendant of nephillim and the next moment she accepted it and is now fighting demons. 

Asteria has a lot of potential, I am hoping if there is another book that we get to know more about the Asteria, Micah, Kendra and Grann. 

My rating for Asteria: Into the Fray is 3.5 out of 5.

I found Asteria to be a quick easy read. It was a slow start and nearly became a DNF but I’m glad I didn’t put it down. If your a fan of Cassie Clare pick this one up.

What initially drew me to request this book was the cover (which is just awesome!) and the premise of archangels, which is right up my alley! Unfortunately this book just fell flat for me. I really, really wanted to love it but unfortunately that just didn't happen and it did take ages for me to read it as I often had to force myself to keep going.

Firstly the things I didn't like; the friendship between Asteria and Kendra felt way too cliche and a little cringey at times. The pacing also felt completely off. Some points felt like they took too long and others just whizzed by and left me wondering what happened. I also hated, HATED the way the points of view were written. It wasn't one characters point of view per chapter, the characters swapped and changed mid page and sometimes even mid paragraph which often left me confused about who was speaking. At one point I thought it was Micah but turned out to be Asteria. I think one point of view per chapter would have worked much better. Finally, the romance seemed to come out of nowhere. I liked how it started with simple attraction and was glad there was no insta-love, and then all of a sudden they were both madly in love with each other. It just didn't feel believable and made it hard for me to commit to their relationship.

However, I did enjoy the characters of Jethro and Micah and found them to be fun to read. I also enjoyed the action and tension between the angels.

Overall it was unfortunately not a great read and not one I'd recommend. Two stars!

The premise definitely sounded interesting. Unfortunately, the combination of the writing style and the characters kept me from really enjoying this story.

Asteria is a normal girl trying to navigate through life after losing her parents but is she as normal as she thought? A chance encounter with a handsome stranger sets off a series of events that changes everything she knows to be true.

I really liked this book, I thought it took a while to get into it and once it did I found the action was over a little too quickly for me, I am hoping that’s because it is a setting up a sequel though!

When I started reading it it really reminded me of the Supernatural tv show, probably due to the similar character names however it did split away from that near the middle.

I liked the romance and that it wasn’t all sex mad angelic beings but at the same time the insta-love storylines do annoy me slightly.

Overall, I would recommend this book to friends of mine that like readin g similar stories and I would love to read a sequel to if!

I’d say the chapter page needs straightening out. A few pages in I was oh no here we go again. Further into that I felt the story was obvious and simplistic and read more like a lit RPG. I did enjoy it and would recommend it.

Interesting concept, beautiful cover art. Couldn't wait to dive into the world of angels at war with each other. Unfortunately, the writing style kept me from enjoying the storyline.

Asteria: Into the Fray is about Asteria, a nephilim(she doesn't know that yet) that was driven to commit suicide by the loss of her parents. When she is about to commit suicide her guardian angel, Micah (an archangel )intervenes and continues to appear in her life when her life is at risk because it just so happens that Asteria is the nephilim from a prophecy and now Azazel and his fellow forsaken want to kill her so evil can win.

When I saw this book I requested it because of the cover and the whole premise of archangels and the nephilim, it sounded truly interesting. However, there was a certain issue I had with the writing style that the story has. I just felt like it had an abrupt feel to it when describing people and emotions in general. It read like fan fiction, and I don't mean that as an insult but rather it reminded me of one when reading.

While at first I didn't think there was insta love but rather just attraction(I mean...Micah is an archangel, he's literally perfect) I was quickly proven wrong when Asteria reveals that he loves him...and I'm pretty sure that this book takes about 7 months tops. I felt like that was just forced and I did not enjoy how it was executed and how quickly they were emotionally attached.

While I liked Asteria enough to read from her point of view without grinding my teeth, I could not tolerate Micah. Micah was always angry or conflicted, I know he has gone through a lot but how his emotions were written and described was annoying, he was just always aggressive which didn't sit well with me.
Astoria I think was a good enough character, her development (and Kendra's) is not really credible, I mean. A little training and they're kicking demons? But it was still interesting enough to keep on reading.

The plot of the book...I don't really know. It was fast but not in a good way. Things just happened quickly but it never seemed like we had reached the climax.

Overall, it's a decent read. Not the best and many things could be improved.
