This started really well but soon lost its way.
The characters were wooden with absolutely no personality and the story did not know whether to be science fiction or horror.
Neither of which were really carried over very well.

Could not finish this book. I don't mind having gay/transgender characters but the author is seemingly fixated on relationships that have nothing to do with the story. I was troubled with an organization that trashes a star-ship captain that is sentenced to death fighting in an unwinnable situation against an implacable foe. If you have read and enjoyed Asimov's 'Starship Troopers' then you will be disappointed with the unfortunate parallels including the use of 'Mobile Infantry' to fight the enemy.
