I really enjoyed the book until the ending. The last chapter threw me, maybe I didn't quite get it? I read unraveling Oliver a few months ago, both were written quite well! 3/5

This is my second book by this author. Once I started the book and got about a quarter of the way into it, I had a hard time putting it down. I enjoyed it just as much as I enjoyed Unravelling Oliver and now can't wait to read her third book. Thanks to netgalley for granting this wish.

A high 4 stars!

Lying in Wait is a dark creepy psychological thriller! And a page turner. Very readable and very well plotted. The story starts in 1980 Dublin with the murder of Annie Doyle. The book opens with the line “My husband did not mean to kill Annie Doyle, but the lying tramp deserved it”. The story is told from the perspective of Lydia who is the murderer’s wife, Lydia’s son Lawrence, and Annie’s sister Karen. It’s best to say little of the plot because this one is worth going into cold. Suffice it to say that Lydia’s narrative holds the story together. From the first line, it’s quite clear that there is something not quite right about her. Lawrence starts off in his mother’s thrall but slowly things get complicated for him. And Karen just wants to know what happened to her sister. Very clever, very dark, and with a creepy ending. I definitely want to read more books by this author. Thanks to Debbie for the recommendation and to Netgalley and the publisher for an opportunity to read an advance copy.
