This memoir, about a woman who reflects on life as a single woman before and after her 40th birthday, surprised me. I found myself unable to put it down. Each chapter has a tight structure, with MacNicol moving seamlessly between her present and past to illuminate why she lives her life the way she does, and why that's so important to her. On a shallow note, she also had a lot of fabulous adventures that were fun to be part of, even if only through reading about them.

If I were more interested in memoirs, I would have given this a higher rating. It was great as a woman to read. Ageing was addressed in such a poignant and refreshing way. I really enjoyed reading about the potential paths and decisions we make on a day to day basis and how Glynnis decides and figures out what she wants. I liked the feminist tone in the background of this, and how it challenges womanhood and societal norms that have plagued women for generations. I really enjoyed this.
