This book sounds like a story a child would tell. The frog is told by many to be careful, doesn’t listen and ends up lost. But when he does the exact things that got him lost to begin with, he ends up back at his home. This story is too simple, too easy. Not in terms of reading, but in plan. It’s very wordy and the story line seems half done. I like the graphics they are nice and bright. I wish the wording was over layered on the graphics instead on white pages in between.

Hoppy the frog is lost in the city , after ignoring his friends warning that a storm is coming. Now Hoppy must find his way back home through the city of the unknown were lots of adventures await! An overall cute storyline.

This isn't a review. Sadly this book downloaded to my kindle without any words or illustrated pages that I could read or see. I tried to download it to two different devices and got the same result.

My son and I were looking forward to reading this today. I like the cover and the summary sounded like we would have enjoyed it. Maybe I'll buy it the next time I'm out shopping for books.

Sorry

This was a really fun story that was easy to follow and full of great images.
It is nice, bright and sharp and the text is great for the age range it is aimed at.
5 stars from me for this one.

This is a super cute book and my daughter loved it. The illustrations are colorful and fun and I like that it had an underlying message that can speak to kids. We will be reading this one over and over. I would definitely recommend.

Hoppy the Frog takes a nap in the middle of the pond, so of course a storm floats him off to the big city.
The first three pages are completely alike except for a different animal giving Hoppy the same warning about the storm. Did not like that; could have at least used different words. Smacks of laziness more than repetition for the sake of learning.
In one page the author used “Began to—” four times! Argh!
This is perfectly fine for kids, but in comparison to most other children’s books, this just isn’t as well written.

Hoppy is a very sweet story about a frog who learns that ignoring advice from those who care about him can lead to trouble. My 4 year old loved the bright illustrations and the cute animals. I loved the simple story and lesson. The text didn’t flow well when read aloud, a little tweaking with the wording could take this cute story up a level.

The first thing that stuck out for me for 'Hoppy's Big City Adventure' was the dedication; Gabrielle's father retold this story to her over and over again as a little girl, and she put pen to paper and turned it into a book, which is lovely. It's a book about Hoppy the frog, whose friends tell him there is a storm coming; Hoppy ignores the warnings and ends up lost. The short and sweet moral of the story is that Hoppy realises it is good to listen when someone tells you to be careful. A nice simple story with lovely illustrations.

The underlying story of Hoppy the Frog is quite a good one (he doesn't listen to his friends, and gets carried away on a big adventure by a storm, and gets a lesson along the way etc). The illustrations are colourful and fun and will appeal to little ones. As will the alliterative animal names. However, the story is told in straightforward, almost stilted language, with no'sing-song quality, rhyming, rhythm, fun words included etc to improve the 'read aloud' quality or make toddlers want to hear it again and again.

Lots of good kids picture books don't rhyme - so not saying that's the problem - but usually even if told in prose not verse they have a 'read aloud' quality created by the word choice, fun words, a rhythm underlying the tale, things flowing really well etc. That's the major flaw with this book (along with the blank white pages of text - it would be better to have the text over illustrated pages, eg in the sky above the city street, etc.

It's a nice story with some good pictures, that could be elevated to a really great story with a few tweaks.

I thought the illustrations in this toddler book were very cute and my 2 year old granddaughter listened to the story. To her the story seemed simple and she could follow it easily. My evaluation of it however found nothing really new or unique in this story. The character leaves home and ends up in the city, distressed. Then he "floats" home again on his lily pad. I wish there had been some sort of dealing with the situation when he reached the city instead of giving up and going to sleep. I know that he learns to listen to his friends and "be careful" but I wish there had been a bit more of his city adventure. Again I have to say that my granddaughter did enjoy the book

A big thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. I found this to be a cute fun story. Great for bedtime. Think most children would enjoy first to have read to them and later to read. Nice.

Adorable story for younger children! It teaches a great lesson and I love the bright illustrations that go with it. I will be sure to read this to my daughter.

It is a cute lovely book about a bold frog who doesn't care too much about what other people warn her. We've all been there and some of us are still there. Especially when you are a little kid keen to take control over your life, telling everyone to 'not worry' because you are not afraid anyway is a common occurence. But sometimes, as in the case of Hoppy, things might not go as good as expected. With a little bit of luck, he is back to his pond, with a lesson and the strength to tell the story. After all, there is a reason why friends are there, isn't it?
A recommended reading to children about to understand how world and friends are working. The illustrations are cute and the story has a lot of appeal either as a bedtime story or a kindergarten read.

Hoppy said, ‘I went on a trip and I learned something.’

‘What?’ asked Frankie.

‘I learned to listen when someone says, “be careful”.

Hoppy is a cute little frog who chats to several of his friends as he heads to his lily pad for a rest in the sun. Each warns him about the coming bad weather, and to each he says

“‘I’m not worried. Goodbye.’’

So of course he falls asleep, sleeps soundly as his lily pad floats on the swollen stream under a bridge and to the city. He wakes up having absolutely no idea where he is.

A friendly rat and pigeon can’t help. They have never heard of the pond. Oh dear!

Eventually, Hoppy tires of wandering around and returns to lie down again for a rest on his lily pad, and what do you know? It rains! It pours! It rains so much he’s washed right back to the pond, which is when he tells his friends he’s learned to listen.

The illustrations are simple, bright and appealing, and the words are simply printed in a large Comic Sans font that will be easy for children to read. The phrases are simple and repetitive, the way the story of the Three Little Pigs is repetitive, and I imagine very little children will learn to say them and pretend to read the words before actually reading them.

I would have enjoyed a slightly longer, more complicated story with a few more phrases, but this may be enough for some people.

Thanks to NetGalley and author Gabrielle Grice for the preview copy from which I’ve quoted.
