They’re all crazy which makes me crazy too…in a good way.

When I received my approval for an ARC of Hot and Badgered I did a wee bit of a shake and shimmy happy dance. After a stressful few days in real life, reading this story was like a breath of fresh air. I laughed, smirked, squirmed and sighed throughout the whole story. I also did one of those silent laughs that ends in a snort trying to be quiet because it was 4:00 in the morning and hubby was asleep beside me. Yeah, yeah, I should have been asleep but hubby snored for a couple of seconds, woke me up, and of course, I had to read myself back to sleep (good excuse).

Anyone who has read and loved Shelly Laurenston’s Pride or Magnus Pack series will love Hot and Badgered. This author's characters are extremely loyal to their family, protective of those they love…and have no hesitation to murder you in your sleep if you do them wrong. Turns out Honey Badgers are that to the EXTREME!

There’s something about these stories that suck you in. Most of the characters are goofy with a side of psychotic that just makes them so endearing. When we meet Charlie and her sisters Max and Stevie they’re kids and even from their tender young age, we come to realise that they are a wee bit more psychotic than goofy. But geez, it’s no bloody wonder. Their dad is a douchewaffle of EPIC proportions. He’s so bad I wanted to jump into the pages to hold the idiot down for Max to do her thing with knives…and I would have been grinning right beside her.

I think Shelly Laurenston is brilliant. I’m not sure another author could pull off her skills of maximum confusion. See, when you start her books they tend to jump around a lot. You’re looking at one character and seeing their world one minute and the next someone completely different. Now, this different character may seem completely unrelated to the current story, but you just KNOW they’ll be back.

Where the brilliance comes in, is that, this confusion is a little like the characters and the storyline. We become honey badgers who bake one minute and pull a knife out of a leg holster and throw it, the next. Picture it like you’re in a control room with six monitors going. You slide your eyes over each screen hoping to keep abreast of all that’s going on. It’s quick and if you blink, you miss it and I didn’t want to miss a thing. The little jumps have a purpose and when it all comes together, you're glad you had the opportunity to build the puzzle yourself. I find that Shelly's stories are fast-paced, keep my head spinning and my heart thumping.

The love story is a bit of a slow burn. Charlie, as the oldest sister, feels a lot of responsibility in keeping her sisters alive and well. She doesn’t have time for romance and doesn’t want to drag a good man into the family curse…named, Freddy MacKilligan AKA, Dad. Funnily enough, the one man/shifter who wants to get dragged in, completely understands her and her family dynamics. His family is just as crazy.

Berg Dunn is a triplet and his life changed forever when a naked woman fell into his world. Berg is a bear shifter who works in security with his brother and sister. They work together and live together so he understands all about family loyalty. They get mistaken for each other (even the sister) A LOT, have each other's back and would die to protect one another. Just like the MacKillagan sisters.

I loved Berg. He comes across as kind of dopey in a sleepy bear coming out of hibernation way. But, there’s this other side to him too. This side of Berg is kind of scary and intense. One minute he's calm, next minute the cranky bear comes out and if you're in his way, he could pop you like a pimple.

You never know what’s around the corner for Charlie, Max and Stevie (boys names because the douchewaffle wanted boys and got girls). I will tell you one thing that I loved about each of them. Charlie bakes to relieve stress, Max smiles as she kills, and Stevie forgets people she’s just met because she doesn’t want to waste brain space on insignificant people…her brain is too important. There's plenty more I could mention but I limited myself to one each. They’re quirky, tough and kick butt. I loved them.

Hot and Badgered was a fun read with plenty of action, suspense and adventure. I would call it a slow burn as Charlie’s crazy life gives them plenty of time to get to know each other before we get to the fun stuff (wink, wink). And, boy was it FUN. Berg starts slow and intense but when his bear kicks in, it's hard and fast and oh so FUN! It’s also not a short story but I never found a time that it dragged or made me want to hurry things up.

I really enjoyed Hot and Badgered and I know this is the start of a new favourite series.

Hot and Badgered is the first book in Shelly Laurenston's newest paranormal series about honey badger sisters. And if you are a fan of Ms. Laurenston then you know that this is going to be awesome with female empowered plot, great but definitely flawed female leads and violent, lots and lots of it. I have been hooked with this author's shifter series and I don't think I will ever get tired of them anytime soon. Fair warning though, a lot of secondary characters are cameos of main characters from her other books which sometimes distracts me but not enough to derail the whole storyline. Hot and Badgered introduces us to the MacKilligan sisters, Charlie, Max and Stevie. Same dad, different mothers which resulted in well in the shifter world, honey badger hybrids except for Max who is pure honey badger and maybe a psychopath as well. These sisters have been through a lot all because of their no good dad and it is usually up to level headed Charlie to keep them safe and most importantly together. When another of their dad's harebrained schemes goes wrong, the sisters are again caught in the middle. This time around though, they suddenly find themselves with Bear shifter allies one of which can mean a possible happily ever after for Charlie. All they need now is to get rid of their father, save their cousins wedding and save the shifter world from being outed to humans and they can finally go ho!me to Queens! As I said, if you love chaos in your shifter romances with strong empowered and neurotic female leads, strong and supportive male heroes and crazy violent villains who are out to destroy the world then better start reading Hot and Badgered, its a great starting point for Shelly Laurenston's wild and fantastic paranormal shifter world!

Hot and Badgered is the first in a new series by the amazing Shelly Laurenston. This author has no limits to the craziness she inflicts on her characters, and no matter how ridiculous the situation, she always gets them through with flair! Shelly Laurenston is just one of those authors that you just have to suspend belief and go with the flow, but boy, it is so worth it.
Charlie Taylor-MacKilligan and her sisters are completely nuts but in the best way possible. Laurenston has the ability to produce tough, wisecracking characters who are truly likable and have a heart, often buried under a gruff exterior.
Hot and Badgered is shaping up to be one of Shelly Laurenston’s craziest and funniest series yet, I can’t wait to see what she is going to inflict on her characters next!
I’d recommend this book to anyone who is willing not to take anything too seriously, who loves a good laugh combined with an emotional core, and just wants to enjoy the rollercoaster that is Hot and Badgered.

Humor and the unexpected. Charlie and her sisters believe they are cursed and all because of their father. They are part of a big family, but not, because the family doesn't acknowledge them. Someone is trying to kill her and her middle sister and kidnap her baby sister. Can they figure out who and stop them? Where can they stay safe until they figure it out?

Berg understands family. He lives and works with his brother and sister and they're triplets. He meets Charlie and wants to help her but in order to do that, he has to accept her sisters too. Somehow he convinces Charlie that he has the perfect place for her to stay to hide out from the people after her and her sisters. Together they set out to solve the problem and in the process Berg hopes to get Charlie to take a chance on him.

There's appearances from some of my favorites from previous books and twists and turns that make for a great read.

I'm gonna admit something. I thought this was a porny honey badger book when I got it.
And I was dying to read it....because...

The hot times don't even happen until 75%..and it's just one time. *Insert sad face here.*

But all was not a total loss. This book is about the three MacKilligan sisters. They all are kinda crazy. I like that in my characters so I settled in to see what they would get up too.
The sisters are all half sister shifters. They all got the honey badger part from their worthless father..
(who is totally this guy in my head.)

Then each sister has their own special talents. Charlie who is a mix of wolf/honey badger, she just doesn't shift into her animals. She really doesn't need it anyways. Max who is might be psychotic. Then we have the baby of the family who spends time in mental institutes when she needs and break from being a genius 20ft tiger/honey badger.
Just your regular neighborhood girls...

Some parts of the story did seem to drag and their were a ton of characters that just didn't seem needed to me. However, I still had pure fun with this family and will probably break one of my own (not followed) rules and read the next one in the series. Because you never can have enough honey badger in your life. For reals.

I just have to repeat how much I ADORE this author. I don't know if another has ever made me laugh as much. The MacKilligan sisters are just the best! The antics, the high-strung obsessions, the fights ..there is so much to love about this book.

FULL REVIEW

Charlie Taylor-Mackilligan is the protector over her two sisters. She has had to be, thanks to her cursed father. Her sisters can take care of themselves but together three of them are a force to be reckoned with and unstoppable. When she lands on a balcony after being attacked she gets assistance from Berg Dunn a grizzly shifter, it is short, bloody, and sweet but Berg can't get Charlie out of his mind.

Back home Berg finds himself in front of Charlie again. Realizing her family needs help he steps in because he knows he wants a date with Charlie. How do you date a woman who believes she is cursed? Simple stay by her side and get under her skin without her realizing it.

I have been waiting for this book for awhile and cleared my calendar so I could just savor all the goodness that this book brought. One of the best so far and you get little cameos from some of your favorite characters from other books. Loved Berg, he is relaxed and lets Charlie do her thing. The sisters are a hoot. Several surprises and I cannot wait for more more more.

I have been waiting for Hot and Badgered for eons! First, I thought I snagged an ARC but then learned it was only for the first chapter. Even though I’m not a sneak peak kind of girl, mainly because I have zero patience, I read it and was intense and funny and had me wanting the full story right freaking then. See. No patience. Then I waited, and I waited some more. When I finally scored the full arc I was doing cartwheels. I dove in and it was every bit the snarky, violently hilarious funfest I expected.

The three MacKilligan sisters have had a tough life constantly being dragged into their POS father’s crazy schemes. If they could find him and kill him off life would be so much simpler. Only one of the three sisters is a full honey badger, the other two are mixed breeds with Charlie being half wolf/half honey badger. These three are as close as close can be and are extremely protective of each other which is good because hybrid shifters have it tough in this world.

Charlie’s job has been to protect her baby sisters since her Mom was killed. With as crazy as her sisters are and as much trouble as they always seem to be in, Berg surprised her. The cute grizzly that kept popping up at opportune times (like when bad guys are bent on killing her). He actually went out of his way to help her and took her and her sisters to the safest place he knows, his bear neighborhood.

Between kidnapping and assassination attempts, grumpy bears getting their precious bee hives raided and none other than the Group getting in the midst of things, this was one crazy ride. Having Dee-Ann Smith, the most obnoxious, maddening, Group operative of them all getting a little lesson in humility was just the icing on my snarky and fun cake.

Berg was perfect as he did his best to “stray dog” his way into Charlie’s heart. He was a perfect mix of sweet teddy bear and gruff growly grizzly. Charlie was the sanest of the three sisters, but that really wasn’t saying a lot. She was loyal to her sisters and hell on anyone who crossed them.

Charlie and Berg had great chemistry, but once again the romance took a bit of a back seat to everything else going on. This was mostly A-okay with me though, since I had such a good time reading it. I can’t wait to read more honey badger stories. These books have always been insane, but the honey badgers seem to have ramped that up a few notches.

#HoneyBadgersRule because this was a smart, sexy, laugh out loud (really!) action packed story with never, not a one, dull moment!

We get to meet the three Honey Badger sister, connected by their father, with different mothers. This is the story of Charlie, and we get to know her and her sisters Max and Stevie. Charlie is half-wolf, but can't shift. Max is full honey badger, and came to live with Charlie and her mom when her mom went to prison. Stevie is half-Siberian tiger, and her mom dropped her off with Charlie's mom for an afternoon and never came back. The story starts with the three sisters arriving at Charlie's grandfathers pack after her mom was killed by bad guys after her dad. Dangerous, even as children, you know what you are getting

What we get is a persistant grizzly named Berg, who is a triplet, and lives with his brother and sister, who falls for Charlie the moment she drops in naked in his hotel room. She ends up crossing his path again, and he tries to pursue her. She likes him, but feels her family is cursed, so warns him away. He doesn't give up, and before they both know it, they are in a relationship

Crazy is too tame a word for the antics of the characters in the book, insane is a better term. We get to see where so many of our favourites from the pride series are now, a few years later, and the Parker-Louis family is front and centre, along with a teenage Kyle. There were a few times I had to stop reading because I was laughing too much

If you have been waiting for the Honey Badgers, you will not be disappointed. If you are looking for a fun read, you will love this. If you like some action and mystery with your romance, this has that too. In other words, this probably has something you are looking for, so give it a read!

Hot and badgered Shelly Laurenston

A world of the pride is back and better than ever, with an introduction to new characters and a return of old. It’s been 5 long years since we were first introduced to the world of the honey badger and 4 years since the author released a book within her Pride world and Hot and Badgered was the perfect book to break the 4 year silence.

The first book in a 3 book mini series created in the Pride world Hot and badgered is the introduction to the Mackilligan sisters and a whole new shifter breed, she’s introduced us to Honey Badgers and now she introduced Wolverines! Get set to welcome the crazy the Mackilligan’s are here and they aren’t your normal brand or Honey Badger crazy.

Half Honey Badger half Wolf the eldest of the sisters is Charlie and Hot and Badgered tells her story and how she falls for a Bear shifter Berg. Action packed from the start the first few chapters contain an attempted hit, jumping from one hotel room to another landing in bergs arms, a car chase and oh so much more the excitement abounds with this book. I loved Chairlie the way she managed her family throughout the book and how she was slow to realise that Berg was the one for her.

For me Shelly Laurenston isn’t just a TBR she is a must read her books whether from her writings as Shelly of GA Aiken filled with fun characters entertaining plots worlds I just want to hear more from. Hot and Badgered was a fun book to read another 5 star read from a favourite author. My only disappointment as ever with an SL book is that it is all fiction and one of her hot hero’s won’t find his way to me.

TEN!!! RIP-ROARING, ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC, MARVELOUS, LAUGHED SO HARD I THINK I CRACKED A RIB FROM FALLING FROM THE BED, READ IT TWICE, ON MY THIRDRE-READ SO GLAD THAT MS. LAURENSTON WRITES THESE ASTOUNDING BOOKS STARS!!!!! (Ummmm, was that too much, you think? Nah, Lol) I am so glad that Ms. Laurentson has continued to write these shifter stories. I cannot recall laughing so hard and so much and able to totally relate to these stores as I have never done with any other book before. The honey-badger MacKilligan sisters are a hot mess and I am in love with them so freaking much! It seems Dee-Ann has met her match with Charlie Taylor-MacKilligan (and love that last name by the way, kill-again, lol, priceless). We have Charlie the oldest and the one that can keep, Max the middle one, from killing everyone while smiling and Stevie, the youngest, the prodigy who I believe, in my opinion was the best of them all, in line and out of trouble, Lol. Then we have the Dunn's, Bear Triplets! That is just, WOW. I mean Bears in Triplet form? How freaking amazing is that! Loved it! Loved Berg, who was completely and calmly perfect for Charlie. I cannot say enough about how awesome it was to catch up on past characters and so many pleasant surprises. This was the best, I read it so fast the first time, I had to read it again and I am currently reading it for the third time and decided I needed to write this review, Lol. I cannot say too much about this, because if I do, I will spoil it for all the fans and I cannot do that. So please, please, I implore to read this and enjoy it! AMAZING 10 STAR READ!!!

P.S. I need more Panda, can we please get more Shen? Lol...

It’s not every day that a beautiful naked woman falls out of the sky and lands face-first on grizzly shifter Berg Dunn’s hotel balcony. Definitely they don’t usually hop up and demand his best gun. Berg gives the lady a grizzly-sized t-shirt and his cell phone, too, just on style points. And then she’s gone, taking his XXXL heart with her. By the time he figures out she’s a honey badger shifter, it’s too late.

Honey badgers are survivors. Brutal, vicious, ill-tempered survivors. Or maybe Charlie Taylor-MacKilligan is just pissed that her useless father is trying to get them all killed again, and won’t even tell her how. Protecting her little sisters has always been her job, and she’s not about to let some pesky giant grizzly protection specialist with a network of every shifter in Manhattan get in her way. Wait. He’s trying to help? Why would he want to do that? He’s cute enough that she just might let him tag along—that is, if he can keep up . . .

Review:

Honey Badgers are freaking awesome!

If you have read other books by Ms. Laurenston's Pride series you will recognize many of the characters and places in this book. If not, where the heck have you been? Really though. If you like crazy, flawed, sarcastic, and interesting characters you should read her books. This book like her others are full of strong women characters. Charlie is a caretaker and sometimes taking care of others more than herself. Berg is a perfect compliment to her. He is calm, strong and watches out for her, while the craziness that is family and friends is going on all around. There is sex, violence and good times all through.

Great start for the Honey Badgers, I will be waiting for impatiently for the next book in the series.

Charlie MacKilligan, a honey badger/wolf hybrid, has been shot, fallen off a balcony, and is running away from armed military types that want to kill her. She’s not sure why but she’s pretty damn sure her father Freddy is at fault. She and her two sisters, Max and Stevie, haven’t had the most normal of lives, but once they meet Berg Dunn, grizzly bear, they start to realize that normal isn’t what’s important - family is. Well, the ones you don’t want to kill, at least. And yes, eventually, romance happens.

The Good, The Bad, and Everything In Between

The Good
It has Laurenston's trademark humor and action (with the accompanying violence)...and that's just the family scenes. Honey badgers are the name of the (shifter) game for this series, which is a (pretty close) offshoot of Ms. Laurenston's Pride series and I am loving every minute of it. Charlie and her sisters aren’t the best at making friends and influencing people (unless it's through fear and pain), but they make up for that in sheer mayhem and snark. Charlie, Max and Stevie have a close, and at times violent, relationship but you never doubt their love for each other. Their banter was hilarious and my kindle should glow in the dark from the amount of highlighting I did.

The Bad
I’m a romance junkie, and I did love Berg’s sweetly beta ways and Charlie’s badassery. But I’ve come to realize that Ms. Laurenston’s books are much more about the overarching storyline. They’re incredibly entertaining, but if you’re all about the romantic scenes, they are not plentiful. It’s the literary equivalent of running out of road. Establishing three very different women and their complicated relationships with those around them truly took up most of the book, and the romance got the fuzzy end of the lollipop, so to speak.

Everything in Between
For longtime readers of Ms. Laurenston’s books, you can enjoy the integration of the MacKilligans into the Pride ‘verse and seeing old favorites from new eyes. I think it can work as a onramp for new readers to join in the fun. However, I can also see the potential for confusion, because there’s ALOT going on. But when the world is so balls to the wall that it comes alive on the page, especially when the action ramps up, I can’t be mad at it.

The Bottom Line 4.5 stars
Ms. Laurenston writes the best shifter stories, and the MacKilligan sisters are a worthy addition to her ‘verse. The MacKilligans can bring the sh*tstorm like no other (as honey badgers do), but Charlie and Berg were the calm in the middle of that madness. I think Ms. Laurenston brought fresh eyes to the Pride ‘verse and I cannot wait to visit them again.

ORIGINAL REVIEW
4-4,5 stars.

Shelly is my unicorn author, and every new release has me counting down the months until release.

This particular story was just as funny and action-filled as I expected. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars, is that I feel like I missed something. I remember feeling this way when I first read the Crows, and that series has jumped to 5 stars after numerous re-reads.

I love Berg and Charlie's story.
I love the small glimpses of previous characters.
But what I love most is the chemistry between the sisters!
I can't wait for everyone to meet these crazy HBs:)

I read Shelly Laurenston's books when I need a pick me up, a mood lightener, or just some all around fun. Hot and Badgered follows the winning recipe that is true to all of Ms. Laurenston's books--a dash of outrageous characters, a pinch of ridiculous situations, and a big whopping cup full of fun, fun, fun. Charlie MacKilligan is the oldest Honey Badger sister. She handles things, seriously dangerous, out of control things for her psycho sister Max, and her spastic, basket case, genius of a little sister Stevie. With a loser father that always drags the girls into dangerous situations, the sisters are tough, take no crap, honey badgers that should stike fear into the hearts of everyone they meet. Their father's latest scheme has the girls seeking help from bears and staying in bear suburbia. Living in the bear neighborhood provides the sisters with a normalcy they have never known as shifters. Charlie is totally crushing on grizzly shifter Berg. Berg might be perfect considering his acceptance of all Charlie's baggage and as a reader you want to see their HEA happen. The MacKilligan family's craziness keeps the pages turning just to see what will happen next. The book put a silly grin on my face from page one and I was still grinning and giggling at the end for one of the most fun reads ever. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.

Favorite Quote: “I hate my fammmmiiillllyyyyyyy!!”

The MacKilligan sisters are in trouble. Their father has done some terrible things in his life but this time, he may have sealed his death warrant and possibly theirs with his latest get rich scheme.

Berg Dunn is just your average bear who works as security for the rich and famous with his siblings. When a gorgeous but naked honey badger drops into his suite with guns blazing, he falls head over heels. Determined to help her, Berg gets his siblings and the other bears involved because you never EVER get between a bear and his honey.

Hot and Badgered is the first in a new spin-off series starring her infamous honey badgers. Laurenston first introduced this new species in her Pride series in book eight, Wolf With Benefits and ended (maybe) the series with a honey badger heroine in book nine, Bite Me.

Shelly Laurenston can do no wrong in the paranormal world and proves it with this latest hilarious, sexy, action-packed story. This new series introduces readers to a whole new set of characters who put the fear of God into the shifter world and has all the groups up in arms. A rambunctious story line blends well with solid plot lines, a sexy engaging romance, punchy dialogue, and a slew of new and old friends. Non stop action and crazy antics keep this ever-expanding world rolling along, delightfully fresh and laugh out loud insane.

I laughed this entire book. The MacKiligan sisters are a riot and their unconditional love for one another is the mainstay of this story. Charlie MacKilligan is a fixer. There is nothing she will not do for her two younger sisters. Raised by their grandfather and insulated from the other shifters, these three hybrid honey badgers learned early that life is not fair, their father is a horrible HORRIBLE person, and allergies are the devil. Max is the killer of the group. She has no empathy or morals. Her leash is held by Charlie and woo to anyone if Charlie lets her go. The youngest of the group, Stevie, is a genius and is scared of everything. Until she shifts then everyone needs to look out because she is something never seen before. She is also besties with Kyle Jean-Louis Parker. YIKES.

I love Laurenston bears and she definitely outdoes herself with this bear family. The Dunn triplets (Berg, Dag, and Britta) are an easy-going family who grab onto the MacKilligans and hold on for dear life once it becomes clear Berg is falling for Charlie; even though it takes Charlie awhile to get it. They give the MacKilligans something they haven’t had for a long time-a family who helps with no conditions attached. Though there is a romance, the foreplay last most of the book, the story revolves mainly around the MacKillians and their problems. Family first in here. I liked that this one was lighter on the romance and sex. It worked well for this story line and the characters.

Berg and Charlie are the perfect match for one another in that they are both natural-born protectors and warriors. Both are calm until angered (or startled), intelligent, and witty with a unique approach to handling life’s little problems that belay their complexity. They accept their attraction and eventually act on it without a lot conflict, fussing, or chasing. Berg understands female shifters and waits for Charlie to make the first move. It takes Charlie awhile because she’s only dated humans and has no idea of her own appeal. I loved that Berg not only understands Charlie but accepts her and her sisters just the way they are. He is also very protective of them.

There are multiple subplots rolling through with the main one revolving around the MacKilligans’ sister’s father. Laureston does her usual excellent job of setting up the parameters and explaining the various family members and their relationship to one another. The Group involves themselves and learns the hard way in a hilarious scene that sometimes the bigger you are just means the harder you fall.

As usual, plenty of familiar faces arrive in a mass hoard to interfere, offer useless advice, and generally annoy each other to distraction. I love that Laurenston always infiltrates current story lines with past characters. The entire shifter nation interacting with one another is what makes these stories so damn funny plus we get to see what they have been up to. Bo Novikov, Dee-Ann Smith, Crush and Malone, the oh so arrogant Kyle Jean-Louis Parker, and even Livy and Vic show up to hinder… errr…offer some help to Charlie and her sisters. We also meet plenty of new characters and species whom I can’t wait to see more of in action.

The ending is explosive and resolves the main conflict perfectly while leaving a large opening for plenty more stories to come. If you enjoy outrageous scenarios, witty banter, and insanely hilarious characters then look no further than Shelly Laurenston. She writes winners across the board.

I enjoyed the story and the crazy sisters. At first I wasn’t sure how I liked them overshadowing the established hard-assed characters I’ve grown to love…but it was fun. Though fewer in number, the MacKilligan girls reminded me a bit of the Jean-Louis Parker family with less histrionics. Not to say they don’t have their share, it’s just tempered with a few tender and understanding bears. This promises to be a fun spin-off series full of sexy mayhem.
