This story is not bad, but compared to Temperance Brennan it doesn't even seem the same author. First of all is so confused, there are many characters between the good and the bad people, and more than once I had to go back and check who was who. Plus the trick of telling the story of the girl was mostly not believable and I hadn't fall for it anymore after the third time. But there are some good points, like the almost complete absence of forensical an hypertechical details about bones and anatomy, replaced by some good computer skills that I appreciated a lot more. In the end it was a good enjoyable novel, with all the problems that usually go along with a first installment in a series. I will probably keep on reading this series.

THANKS NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!

While I love Kathy's Temperance Brennan series, I was very excited to see a stand alone book for the same author. I had high hopes for this book being different yet as engaging as her other books. This is where the book fell for me, I just could not warm to the main character Sunday Night, her quirky sarcasm started to grate on me. I enjoyed the plot, which had a flowing pace with a good mix of suspense and actions. Night is hired by the rich Opaline Drucker, who wants to find out what happened to her missing grandchild when a bomb went off at a Jewish school. With a different main character, I would have loved this book more, however for now I'm afraid to say it just wasn't for me.

I liked that the story was similar to current events and that it was incorporated very smoothly into a story.

Sunday Night is ex cop and ex military and is now retired. She was very good at her job and that is why she is being sought by a very arrogant millionaire to find out what has happened to her grand daughter who she believes is alive after a bomb explosion which killed her mother and brother.

Working with her twin brother Gus who is bubbly and smooth, the opposite of Sunnie they have very few clues to start with. However, the people who start sniffing around obviously know more of what Sunnie is looking for and this is all she needs to start.

Through clever deduction and sound intelligence work Sunnie begins the hard job of trying to find Grace. Whether Grace wants to be reconciled with her grandmother however is another story. Having to confront her own past whilst looking for the girl is another thing that Sunnie did not account for.

Fast paced, going back and forth between the girl and Sunnie's own schemes you had to concentrate on this read to know what was going on.

This new series from Reichs features a new to us heroine who is smart, tough, and talented in things a "average" woman isn't and whose desire for thruth and justice, comes from her own dark past.

Meet Sunday Night, she is a woman with physical and psychological scars, and a killer instinct, who is out to catch a group of killers and bring revenge and satisfaction, for herself and those who pay her to find a missing girl. She has gone missing, lost in the chaos of a bomb explosion, and the family needs Sunnie’s help.

Is the bombing a ruse, to hide a secret group of jihadists or something else.

Reichs really went all out with this one. I highly recommend giving it a go, it's a changes from Tempe, and could be a new start to a new series about Sunnie.

An excellent start for a new series from Kathy Reichs. I have read a few of her Temperance Brennan series and I'm a big fan of "Bones" and this novel is of an equal quality to her others. It is a little clichéd Sunday Night (awful name choice) is ex-army/police and is now dragged out of retirement to try a her hand at a little private investigating. She does however have a very original back story which makes her more than qualified to find a young girl who is missing after an explosion that killed her mother and brother. I wouldn't normally choose to read a book on the theme of terrorism but I thoroughly enjoyed this and look forward to the next one.

Hmm, this is a toughie for me. I love reading Kathy Reichs books and love her Temperance Brennan character ... her new character, Sunday Night, is something altogether different and I found her difficult to get to like. I admit that I struggled to get into this book and the only way I can describe it is a little chaotic - a bit like Sunday - and I think that's the point but it didn't really work that well for me. Having said that, if another in the series came out, I would give it a go to see how Sunday develops as she is an extremely complex and interesting character that I would quite like to get to know a bit better.

Kathy Reichs, famous for her Temperance Brennan series (“Bones” on TV) has written over 30 books (according to her website).

Having watched (but not yet read) Bones, and thoroughly enjoying Temperance, and seeing this was a standalone, I thought I’d try Two Nights. Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for my ARC.

Sunnie is a recluse, with a squirrel for a friend. She is contacted to help with a case of a missing girl and must meet with Opaline Drucker, a wealthy socialite who lost a daughter and a grandson in a bombing. The teenaged granddaughter went missing at the time.

Sunnie is my kind of heroine. Gutsy, smart; damaged and scarred, she seems afraid of nothing, and everything. She’s angry and takes on the world, yet resourceful and packs her underwear - and some serious weapons. I loved her strength and the glimpse we had of her soul. Her strong voice rang true, and this was written well - short chapters, lots of dialogue, and many villainous stalkers out to get her before her mission was accomplished.

Ms. Reichs is a forensic anthropologist, and this novel is more action and psychological thriller than forensic, which may disappoint Temperance fans. I had no basis of comparison.

However, I was a little baffled by all the crypticism (yes, that isn't a word, but it should be). There is a reason and a reveal which I won’t spoil, but I wondered whether it was worth all the subterfuge. It may make others less patient with this action-packed engrossing page turner.

I really enjoyed this book. As a reader who has read all of Reichs's Temperance Brennan series, this is the first one of hers that I have read not to involve TB. The lead character was really interesting and very well written, the supporting ones only added to the story also. There are two storylines written here, one in present time and one from a memory and the memory one totally threw me, I would never have figured this one out till the big reveal. Hope Kathy writes more involving this character.

I have been a huge fan of Kathy Reichs Temperance Brennan novels for many years so was really excited to request this book to read. It is very different to the Temperance Brennan books and so I tried not to let that influence me when doing this review. The book was well written and fast paced with a second theme running through the book which I must admit I thought was someone else until near the end! Unlike Tempe, I couldn't really warm to the Sunday Night character even though I wanted too. I don't know if this is one of a series of books because there were, for me, a few loose ends regarding Sunday and her brother Gus's story and background. Nevertheless it was a good action packed read and I did chuckle when I read about John Stanton binge watching 'Bones'!!!

This is a complete change to the normal Kathy Reichs books, but still a good read. Took awhile to get going , but definitely a page turner. Looking forward to the next in the series being released.

Another great classic crime from Reichs. Never fails to impress with her writing and new stories.
