This is such an adorable story! TIGER VS. NIGHTMARE centers around a young tiger who claims she has a monster who needs dinner. She feeds the monster, they play games, and then this friendly monster fights off the bad nightmare monsters while she sleeps. Only one time, the friendly monster can't fight off a nightmare. So what are Tiger and Monster to do?

I would highly recommend this book for anyone with little kids who might be afraid of the dark or struggling with their own monsters and nightmares. My son and I had so much fun reading this one together and were sad when we had to bring it back to the library.

Cute graphic novel for elementary readers. The focus on friendship, teamwork and bravery is a nice lesson wrapped in engaging art and the universal theme of fighting nightmares.

This is the kind of book that makes Finn say he wishes he had his own monster. He loved reading about their hijinks and he was laughing the whole time. The artwork is cute, and the story was so much fun.

We all have scary dreams but sometimes we need some help fighting them off, especially if they are re-occurring

Tiger vs. Nightmare was cute and fun. I enjoyed the art, especially. I think this is good for younger kids. Older kids might find the storyline babyish. But I liked it.

Re-imagines the whole "monster under my bed" theory into a cute story about friendship, working together, and being brave.

Tiger vs. Nightmare is a sweet, touching, and exquisitely illustrated story about friendship, teamwork, and learning to conquer your fears. Tiger and Monster are best friends: they play together every evening, and when Tiger goes to bed, Monster fends off Tiger’s nightmares so she can sleep peacefully throughout the night. One night, however, Monster meets a nightmare that isn’t so easily defeated, and the two friends have to come up with a plan to fight the nightmare together. Emily Tetri’s loose, expressive artwork perfectly captures both the joy and humor of Tiger and Monster’s friendship and the abstract terror of Tiger’s nightmares.

Tetri’s humor and brilliant character work shine particularly brightly when Tiger and Monster enact their first plan to fight the nightmare. In two of my favorite graphic novel pages in recent memory, Tiger outfits Monster with some armor at bedtime and then the two friends pump each other up for the fight ahead. I’m a big believer in letting people discover the joys of certain illustrations for themselves, so I haven’t included any images from that sequence, but you can tell by the other illustrations I’ve shared just how beautiful Tetri’s artwork is and how strong her storytelling skills are.

Every page of this book is a joy, with loving family interactions between Tiger and her parents, heartwarming scenes of friendship as Tiger and Monster play together, charming dashes of humor, and a triumphant ending that teaches young readers how to defeat their own nightmares. Tiger vs. Nightmare is an ideal gift for children who are having trouble fending off bad dreams, but this is a title that will appeal to anyone who enjoys a great story and gorgeous artwork. It is indeed a book you just want to hug, and Tetri’s recent Eisner nomination is richly deserved. This is a masterful graphic novel from cover to cover.

A beautifully illustrated graphic novel for elementary aged readers, this book is about friendships, teamwork, and what you can accomplish if you stand up to your fears. no matter how big they are, or how small you are. Absolutely wonderful.

I'm always interested in what a short graphic novel like this one achieves and how it differs from the same story as it would be told as a picture book. The relationship between illustration and text is vastly different. THere's more plot complication than your typical picture book. A cute story about winning over fear and defending our friends.

Tiger vs Nightmare by Emily Tetri is a most adorable children's book laid out comics style, in panels. Every night Tiger asks to take food to her room, to feed the monster who live under her bed. Her parents indulge her, thinking Monster is Tiger's imaginary friend. Tiger says Monster keeps her nightmares away. Then one night comes a nightmare that frightens even Monster. After several nights of terrible sleep Tiger realises something very important. Nightmares are illusions of the mind, and she has more power over them than she ever knew.

This artwork is just lovely. And Tiger's 'monster’ is so cute! She reminds me of a Pokemon. There are lots of great lessons packed in this little book. Not just that our nightmares are of our own making, and we have within us the power to overcome them, but also subtle lessons of politeness, etiquette, and friendship. My cubs and I all loved it!

Tiger vs. Nightmare is a short comic story where we see the everyday life of little Tiger. She comes home from school, interacts with her parents, has dinner and always remembers to take an extra plate of food for the monster under the bed. But this monster is no scary monster. Monster has been friends with Tiger for a long time and he protects Tiger’s dreams from scary nightmares.

Tiger’s parents think she’s hungry and that is why she is always taking an extra plate of food. Meanwhile, Monster plays with Tiger different games every night before going to bed, but what happens when Monster can’t protect Tiger from the nightmares? Tiger and Monster team up to protect her dreams.

This comic has a wonderful message delivered through a cute little tiger and her monster friend: the power of believing in yourself. When Tiger has trouble sleeping, she does not let herself be defeated, she instead believes in herself and what she can do to solve the problem. And along with the help of Monster, they keep the nightmares away.

Tiger vs. Nightmare is a great story for all ages with cute characters and a nice watercolor illustration. A great bedtime story recommendation.

We loved this! Tiger vs. Nightmare was an amazing story about friendship and conquering your fears. My son has only recently started believing that monsters lurk in the dark corners of his room, so this book was very applicable to him right now.

However, instead of Monster being something Tiger is afraid of, Monster is her friend that lives underneath her bed. They play together every evening (her parents think she has an imaginary friend), and Monster keeps the nightmares away. They have a solid friendship and a good nighttime routine, until the night a nightmare gets through.

I don't want to give anything away, but eventually the two of them have to work together to conquer their fears, and they end up becoming better friends because of it. Tiger couldn't rely on Monster to do all of the work, she had to learn to face her fears and be there for her friend.

Tiger vs. Nightmare might look like a long book, but it's a quick read with a wonderful story. It's definitely one we're going to be adding to our shelves.

Tiger has a friend Monster. Monster came when Tiger was really little and was supposed to scare him, but instead Monster decided to stay. Now Tiger and Monster share food, games, and then at night Monster scares away the nightmares. But one night a nightmare comes along that is a bit too much for Monster. Can Tiger and Monster figure out how to deal with this nasty nightmare?

Awww, Monster and Tiger are adorable friends. I like the way they tackle problems together and figure out a way to keep the nightmare at bay. (And use a strategy that might work for real kids too.) The world they live in has a fun scifi vibe that creates an interesting backdrop to the story and leaves me with an urge to see more of their world. I hope we get more adventures with Tiger and Monster in the future. Highly recommended to kids who have trouble with nightmares, kids who like adorable heroes and great friendship stories, light scifi fans, and graphic novel/picture book fans.

I received an ARC of this title from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

A super cute story of being brave, overcoming what you are afraid of, and of working together. I loved the artwork. I believe it is watercolor and with all the details that the artist put into these the whole book is amazing looking.

This book is so cute! It is perfect for kids just beginning to get into graphic novels. The illustrations and story were adorable. It's all about facing and overcoming your fears, and I think a lot can be learned from this tale.

Tiger's got a monster who lives under her bed! But it's okay - this monster is her best friend. She shares her food with Monster, and they plays games and hang out together every night until it's time for lights out. While Tiger sleeps, Monster scares her nightmares away. But a big nightmare is waiting in the dark, and Monster can't fight this one alone - Monster is pretty scared, too. It's up to the friends to work together to get rid of this nightmare for good.

Tiger vs. Nightmare is an adorable intermediate/early middle grade graphic novel about friends, bedtimes, and scaring away those big, bad nightmares. The Nightmare is spooky, but not so scary that it will give little readers nightmares. I read it with my 6-year-old, and he was fine. Honest. There are positive messages about teamwork, trial and error, facing fears, and friendship. The watercolor and pencil artwork adds a dreamy feel to the story, and the color schemes run cool blue for nightmares, warm colors for the dawn. Monster is blue, linking to the world of nightmares, but as Monster also offers support and comfort to Tiger, I think of blue as more of a bridge between the dreaming and awake worlds.

Tiger vs. Nightmare by Emily Tetri is a children's graphic novel currently scheduled for release on November 6 2018. Tiger is a very lucky kid: she has a monster living under her bed. Every night, Tiger and Monster play games until it’s time for lights out. Of course, Monster would never try to scare Tiger—that’s not what best friends do. But Monster needs to scare someone…it’s a monster, after all. So while Tiger sleeps, Monster scares all of her nightmares away. Thanks to her friend, Tiger has nothing but good dreams. But waiting in the darkness is a nightmare so big and mean that Monster can’t fight it alone. Only teamwork and a lot of bravery can chase this nightmare away.

Tiger vs. Nightmare is a cute graphic novel about friendship. The artwork is cute, but I was not a huge fan. It looked a little unfinished, but I think that was more because I was looking at an electronic, early galley rather than the final copy. I fully expect that in the final version the artwork will be crisper. Tiger is friends with the monster under her bed, but of course everyone thinks the monster is her imagination. I love that the monster decided not to scare Tiger, but to scare away nightmares instead. However, eventually there is a nightmare too powerful for the monster to fight alone, and feels terrible when it slips by, but cannot admit what happened and becomes more determined to take care of Tiger. He dedication and guilt are things that most of us can relate to. The desire not to admit or failings, or ask for help when we need it is something adults struggle with just as much as kids. I like that Tiger is paying attention to Monster and is ready to help her friend. Friendship, support, and teamwork between the friends, along with the understanding that the nightmare is coming from Tiger's mind, are key lessons of the story, and wonderfully told. Facing your fears and dealing with nightmares like Tiger is a wonderful example to follow, and something even the most outwardly brave child can stand to hear. I like that her parents do not try to talk away the monster, but support Tiger in her connection and imagination. The supportive family is nice to see in a world of kidlit that often has clueless or unhelpful adults.

Tiger vs. Nightmare is graphic novel for young readers that tells a wonderful story about friendship, facing your fears, and supporting others.

I read an ARC via NetGalley. This graphic novel for beginning readers is about a young tiger who works with the monster under her bed to scare away nightmares. The watercolor artwork was evocative, but may be a little scary for picture book readers. However, it is perfect for ages 5-8. Recommended for young readers dealing with nightmares. A quick and cute read.
