A heavy sci-fi graphic novel, that combines some weird DNA stuff, some post-Gibson cyberspace/social media thing, and some alien worship. Or does it? Frankly it's all too confusing for me to cope with, with varying art from a multitude of visual craftsmen. The script is very rich with its own jargon, meaning it's really hard to get an 'in' to this world.

A very interesting concept for a story. I loved the colorful artwork! I enjoyed the parts of the story that I could follow. I found that instead of adding to the story that the scientific aspects bogged it down making it too complex for graphic novel format.

I must admit that I don’t often read graphic novels but I picked up Legend of Sumeria from its blurb without realising it was one! In saying that, I actually think the format of graphic novel actually does this book no favours – the artwork isn’t particularly anything special and it’s too complex with too many layers to be told coherently in just a few textboxes per page. If the plot had been told in a novel format, with enough time spent on exposition, exploration of the world and proper backstory of the characters I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more than I did.

I found the plot to be disjointed and a bit of a mess; there seemed to be multiple plots that the book would randomly jump between, none of which seemed to be properly explained and none of which I really understood. I usually write a brief teaser of the plot at the beginning of my reviews but I honestly don’t think I can do that for this as I had no idea what was going on most of the time. The narrative style seemed overly complex in scientific language to almost patronising levels and I didn’t feel anything for any of the characters.

Overall this book got me really excited to read it from its synopsis and upon reading it I’m still really excited to read that book – it’s a shame that Legend of Sumeria isn’t it! Thank you to NetGalley and Dream Novels for a chance to read the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
