Becoming a family will take patience, humor, a little bit of wine and a whole lot of love...

Life is meant to be savored, but that's not easy with no family, limited prospects and a past you'd rather not talk about. Still, Callie Smith doesn't know how to feel when she discovers she has a brother and a sister--Malcolm, who grew up with affection, wealth and privilege, and Keira, a streetwise twelve-year-old. Callie doesn't love being alone, but at least it's safe. Despite her trepidation, she moves into the grand family home with her siblings and grandfather on the shores of Lake Washington, hoping just maybe this will be the start of a whole new life.

My thoughts:
I've read a few Susan Mallery books but this one definitely wasn't my favorite. The book started off decent then just felt slow to me.

I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Thank you, Harlequin Books!

When We Found Home was the first book I've read by Susan Mallery. I enjoyed her writing style and was easily caught up in the story of Malcolm, Callie and Keira, three siblings just meeting one another for the first time. I loved how Mallery portrayed the difficulties of getting to know and live with people that are actually your family. I also really enjoyed the interactions between these three siblings. The one thing that I really disliked was the inclusion of some much too graphic sex scenes. Not only do I not like this type of material in my books, I also thought that it seemed completely out of place and unnecessary for this story. The scenes felt like they were just thrown in and it did not add, but definitely took away from my enjoyment of the book. Because of this, what would have otherwise received 4 stars from me, only got 3.

Callie Smith makes the shocking discovery that she has a brother and sister that she never knew about. Because of a surprising turn of events, she winds up living with her siblings and grandfather in a life of luxury, which she's never experienced before. This novel explores family dynamics and what the true riches in life truly are. I loved the premise of this heartwarming novel.

Three people find out as adults that they are half-siblings. They all move to their grandfather's house, but learning to live together proves to be more difficult than they expected. Susan Mallery presents an intriguing situation, and as always, the storyline is complex and well-written. Her characters are believable and the dialog ranges from intense to humorous. We go through many twists and a lot of turmoil before arriving the the conclusion, but the ride was worth it. Highly recommended, especially to those that like family drama.

This story was great. It was unique; a family of a mix of people of different ages trying to figure out how to be a family. I liked the premise of a brother who doesn't know how to be a brother, and sisters who don't know how to be part of a wealthy family. Tons of great quotes, and a satisfying conclusion.

This was a DNF for me. The multiple storylines were overwhelming, and I couldn't immerse myself in the writing. I know this author is beloved, but I wasn't thrilled with my first foray into her work. But I'll definitely try again in future!

RATING: 3.5 STARS
2018; HQN/Harlequin

When Malcolm's estranged father passes, his grandfather discovers that Malcolm has two half sisters. While Malcolm grew up with his grandfather and mother's love, he has not really let his heart open up to new people. Kiera, a wise twelve year old, is found in foster care, after her birth mother leaves her with a friend. That friend has a criminal record so is put into the system where her paternal family finds her. Callie made a dumb mistake and has paid for it by going to prison for a few years. When she is told that a wealthy family has been looking for her she is suspicious. As the three very different people try to live under one roof, they learn to realize that blood may be thicker than water.

I liked the idea of this story, and the characters, but felt like there was something missing. Kiera seems to have a strong presence in the beginning which gives the novel heart. Yet, as the romances build, Keira gets a bit shafted. I think the two romances were also a bit forced and may have been better as two separate books. I did overall like the book.

I struggled to get into this book. My attention was held in the beginning but towards the end I just didn't love it.

Many thanks to Netgalley and to the publisher for the advanced reader copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I. Loved. This. Book.

I started reading this book thinking it would be a light summer read. It was surprisingly full of serious issues, well-developed characters, and SO much heart. I was rooting for all three characters soon after starting the book and loved hearing each character's perspective. The author was able to capture the dynamics realistically while still keeping a thread of hope and heart throughout the book. I highly recommend this feel-good novel!

When We Found Home will bring family closer than ever when they stop fighting and start bonding.
Family is always complicated. There is no way changing it. It is going to get more complicated when Callie discover that she has two sibling - one older and one younger. It's definitely a surprise for everyone but everyone is kinda willing to live with each other with their grandfather.
It is going to challenging for everyone because there are three different personality. So it is going to take some adjustment for everyone. Each of them are going to wonderful for each other. It may be hard at first but they need each other. Family always do.
When We Found Home will bring three sibling together in the most unexpected way and it is up to them to forge their bond.
Three Stars.

When We Found Home is another amazing book by Susan Mallery. I loved getting to see the relationships between Callie, Malcolm and Keira develop.

I have been loving these stand alone books, that almost fit into the women's fiction category, but are still romance at the same time. This one checks all of the boxes about what I love for both categories! Siblings who are learning about each other, and learning to love and trust their new instant family. I loved the sisters in this book, and their relationship with the main character, Malcolm! I also loved watching Malcolm grow emotionally in this book, and his story. I highly recommend this one!

I really enjoyed reading this story. The characters have their own personal story along with an overall story as well. The author does a fantastic jobs with combining it without losing important parts. There are chapters that I couldn't read fast enough!

Oh my! One of Susan Mallery’s best books yet! I could not put it down. I thought of these characters for days after finishing the book. Have you ever read a book and get so invested in the story that it is hard to start a new book? This was one of those for me. LOVED this book

I love books about families. Whether they be dysfunctional or somewhat functional, (because is ANY family just plain functional??) the intricacies in family relationships is just super interesting to me.

And this book is a fun one. One day, Callie Smith finds out that even though her whole life she thought she had no family, she actually has a brother and a sister, Malcolm and Keira.

They all decide to move into their grandfather's grand home on the shores of Lake Washington, to get to know each other. The summer proves to be more than they expected in good and bad ways, teaching them each what it means to be a family and love each other in ways they never had before.

You will fall in love with this sweet, new family of siblings, while wanting to move to Lake Washington. Ha. I really loved this book, and will be recommending it to all my friends!

I have read and loved every single Susan Mallery book. She writes some of the best stories and characters, but for some reason, I just could not get into this book. I hope that once it comes out on cd I will be able to listen to it and enjoy it.

Life and family aren't always easy by any means, but discovering one you didn't know you had adds a certain twist. Callie navigates the news well, even moving to get to know her new siblings better. A lot of well done family drama, a good story by the end.

This was a sweet, slow-to-unfold, predictable read that I enjoyed. It’s a book I put down for a few days, pick back up, and fall back into it. Susan Mallory has writing down to a science, and I will read anything with her name attached to it.
