Another book by this author I could not put down! I loved the family dynamics in each family represented because they all felt like either my family or some I have known. Plus many characters had baggage they had to overcome to get where they needed to be by the end of the book.
The romance portion was entertaining at times as personalities clashed, but as in any good book, it all works itself out.

This was an interesting book that stayed true to the themes in the author's previous novels, and added in some new twists. Family, love, redemption, forgiveness, second chances, moving on, worthiness... it's a lot but it's all here. The characters are well-drawn and there is a great deal to consider as they make their way through their new lives together.

Susan Mallery never disappoints, and in this women's fiction novel that also has two strong romances, she illustrates how families can come together without a shared history. Three half siblings who did not know of the existence of each other find themselves building a family, with all of the stress and missteps inherent in creating new and lasting relationships. The character development is strong, especially with the perceptive yet insecure (but wholly charming) 12-year old, Kiera. How this family joins together to build a future is a worthwhile and definitely recommended read.

When We Found Home by Susan Mallery
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is two romances in one but is not the main theme of the book. This tells about three siblings who only meet when some are grown and one is still a young girl. At the heart is family is everything but sometimes it takes time for all to adjust and learn to love. A nice story that kept up a interesting flow with problems that keep popping up causing change in all.

I love Susan Mallery and this book was just as wonderful as her other offerings. I loved the characters and the plot. I was sorry to see the book end!

This is a great story about three siblings that didn't know that the other existed. Malcolm grew up in wealth and love with his grandfather. Keira is a 12-year that lived in foster care after the death of her mother. Callie comes from a background where her life took a bad turn and she's trying to start over. When the grandfather learns that he has two granddaughters that he wasn't aware of he finds them and brings them into the family home. Keira has an adjustment period -- expecting to be abandoned at any minute. Callie comes from having nothing to having whatever she wants. She finds it all hard to believe and doesn't trust that it's real. The two sisters have an immediate bond. Malcolm has to work on what it means to be a brother. This is great story about finding family and blending and making things work!

A story I just couldn't put down. I loved this read and will be recommending it to customers in our store!

Talk about your blended family! Alberto, owner of a large corporation has lost his only son, but has more or less raised his grandson who will follow him into the business. Years after his son's death he finally goes through the son's papers and finds that he had two daughters. Alberto wants to bring them 'home. Kiera was fairly easy to find, but the two men really don't know what to do with and or for her. She is pretty much left to her own devices. The older daughter, Callie was more difficult to find. She was plucked from her hand to mouth existence to moving into the family mansion. This is a lovely story about what and who makes a family successful.

When We Found Home is a contemporary romance novel that reminds us of what it takes to be a family. Its not just being related by blood but all the effort it takes to grow the familial bond. Malcolm Carlesso is the heir apparent to the Carlesso food catalog business. While he is able to run the business with ease, he finds that its not so easy to develop his relationship with he new found half-siblings Callie and Keira. Keira, an abandoned orphan who is 12 years old, has learned not to trust those who claim to be family. Callie, an adult whose one mistake seems to be haunting her, is even more skeptical of her good fortune of being part of the Carlesso family. As these three try to adjust to their newfound family relation they'll really learn what it means to be a family.
I enjoyed reading this book because it reminded me of all the family drama I've experienced growing up. The sense of belonging and knowing that even though you may fight with your siblings and will still have their back if an outsider tries to harm them, was a great stress reliever from my busy work days. Yes, siblings can be a pain but loving them despite that is what helps that bond stay strong. Susan Mallery incorporates those elements very well as Malcolm, Callie and Keira learn how sibling relationships in families work. At the same time she introduces the aspect learning about yourself through every relationship. From families to romantic interests, nothing about the way we grow is left out or how vital communication is at every turn. The characters seem to grow and change through every encounter. This book has its quirky, funny, sad, angry and empathetic moments that just leaves you feeling satisfied from the beginning to the end.

Mallery is a master at creating a place and characters that capture our attention and hearts. She weaves their lives into a cohesive story almost effortlessly it seems. This is the story of three siblings who find each other later in life and learn how to live together. Abandoned by their father they have endured trials but their grandfather welcomes them into his home. I really enjoyed this book. There are recipes at the end of the book as well as reader's guide questions for book discussion groups. Outstanding

Dear Ms. Mallery,
A few years back, I discovered your Fool’s Gold series and absolutely devoured it. I read nothing else for weeks! It was pretty glorious, since one of my favorite things an author can do is continue to tell new stories in the same world.
When We Found Home isn’t part of that series, but my head canon is that it’s still the same world – just different characters in a different town. And oh what characters they are!
At first I had a bit of trouble with the frequent narrative changes, but once I had a handle on each character’s voice it was easy to distinguish between them. Of course, my favorite was 12 year old Keira. That child stole my heart right from the start. Watching these strangers become family was almost as if I, too, was becoming part of the family. And generally speaking, that’s the exact kind of thing I go to a story for.
I want to come out of it full of warm fuzzies, wearing a huge smile, and bursting with joy.
Your book gave that to me, and I really couldn’t have asked for much more than that.

I would give this book 3.5 stars. The family story of the three siblings learning to love and trust one another was very well done. You could appreciate each characters' point of view and understand why they acted in certain ways. The romance could have used a little bit more in the end. I thought the wounded party in each relationship forgave too easily, and I wanted to read more about how the couples rebuilt trust.
Overall a solid story from an author who I regularly read.

In this book we meet Malcolm who has taken over running the family business since his grandfather has retired. When he was twelve he came to live with his grandfather learning along the way that he had a father who didn't want anything to do with him. A few years after his fathers death his grandfather feels it's time to go through his papers and Malcolm learns that he has two half-sisters that he never new about. One is twelve year old Kiera who is in foster care, they immediately bring her to live with them, the only problem, Malcolm doesn't know how to be a big brother much less a guardian. When his grandfather finds his other sister Callie who is twenty six and brings her to live with them things become even more intense and strained. You see Malcolm has cut off his emotions thanks to the betrayal of a fiance and doesn't know how to open up. In comes Delaney, a young woman who works as a barista at a coffee shop located in the building where Malcolm works. She steps in offering friendship and does her best to help Malcolm navigate the changes that have been brought into his life. Delaney herself has her own issues to work through and having a new friend to offer up advice might help her to. Follow along as Malcolm tries to become the brother he so truly wants to be for his sisters and maybe he will let the ice around his heart melt to let love in. This was a lovely story about how families can come together and become one and that love can be found at the most unexpected times.

Absolutely wonderful new release from Susan Mallery! Stories of family lost being found go straight to my heart because the stories are always heartbreakingly beautiful, and When We Found Home is no exception.
The characters are perfectly portrayed and felt like good friends which is one of my favorite aspects of a good book. You feel like you’re there with them. I absolutely loved Keira and her part in the storyline. Malcolm was another favorite as he had some growing to do and it was awesome reading his transformation from a barely involved brother to becoming fully invested in both of his newly acquainted sisters.
If you are looking for a heartwarming, poignant story of family and loving unconditionally When We Found Home is exactly what you are looking for.

When We Found Home takes us through the emotional story of three siblings. They never know the other existed, but are brought together at the request of their Grandfather.
After the death of Alberto Carlesso’s son he learns that he two other children out there somewhere. Of course Alberto stars searching for them, he first finds Keira, a 12 years old, who hasn’t had the best life. Callie, the other granddaughter Callie hasn’t had it much better. Keira and Callie hit if off right away, but Malcolm not so much.
Malcolm was a stoic man, all business. That is until he meets Delaney, who happens to be the barista that he sees as his normal daily visit to the coffee shop. I think she might exactly what he needs too. She’s just as intrigued by him as he is of her.
Now as for the younger sister, Keira, she is a spunky kid and I just adored her, and I felt bad for her when it came to her and Malcolm. She’s just a kid and Malcolm has no idea how to be around her or even talk to her. I have to admit, I really enjoyed Callie, she grown and been through hell and back. Trust is an issues for her. She isn’t used the luxurious life that Macolm has grown up in. They butt heads a lot, but what sibling don’t. Mine sure do.
There is a lot of little stories from all three of the sliblings, and the company that the Carlesso family owns. A little bit of romance was in the air too. I enjoyed the growth this family went through, it was always easy but it was so sweet and inspiring at the same time. I just kept rooting for them all to get that happiness they so dearly deserved.
When We Found Home was such a beautiful story of family, second chances and a little bit of sweet romance.

It isn't every day that I'll read a book in one sitting. For me, it hasn't been that way in such a long time. I felt like I was about to get into a reading rut. It happens when I've been reading a string of great books - eventually, the hangover will occur. Before When We Found Home by Susan Mallery, I picked up and started several books. If only you could have seen that list, it amassed into a lengthy list. It wasn't that I didn't like those books, it just wasn't the right time for me to read them.
I have been a fan of Susan Mallery for a long time. Like my love for Nora Roberts, I'll turn to Mallery for feel-good stories with a touch of romance. Before When We Found Home was just the case.
This story is about three half-siblings that are joined together as a family unit by one grandfather righting the wrongs of his son. They all came from different walks of life, now found with an instant-family, instant-wealth, but not necessarily instant-security. For Malcom, Callie, and Keira, they each came to terms with their new status, in a thriving family business, in their own way.
Malcom is the broody oldest son. He has been with grandfather Alfredo the longest, but also feels the most loyal. He would do anything for him and the family business, even if that blindsides him with the other aspects of his life.
Callie is the newest member to join the family, but I feel is the strongest. Throughout this story, regardless of her past, she has more insight and intelligence than the others. I connected the most to her, and she was my favorite.
Keira is the youngest, at only 12. My heart broke for her the most. Her past really did a number on her, and it was heart-breaking reading about all her troubles and emotions towards her family.
Mallery put together this cast to symbolize that family isn't always who you choose, but loving people that you can trust is everything. I loved their stories individually, but especially enjoyed their path to becoming a solid unit.

I’ve read a lot of Susan Mallery novels and I liked this novel better than her Fool’s Gold series which had gotten a bit repetitive and just too unrealistic. This story had better developed characters who grow over the course of the novel.
The theme here is siblings who just met each other finding out what being part of a family means. The three siblings share a father who didn’t care at all about the children he fathered, but his father did. The grandfather, when he found out about his grandchildren brought them all together to live with him in Seattle. It helps that he’s extremely wealthy and has an internationally successful business that they will all get a share of. The oldest, Malcolm, is the CEO of the business and he falls for Delaney who serves coffee in the lobby of his building. He doesn’t know how to relate to his 12-year old half-sister who is having trouble adapting to her new situation. The other newcomer to the family, Callie, is trying to build a life after having made a mistake as a teenager that landed her in prison and a felony on her record.
Now that all this good luck of suddenly finding herself with a new family and wealth that she can barely understand, Callie also has trouble accepting her new situation. But she loves her brand new little sister. She also attracts the attention of Malcolm’s best friend, the hunky Santiago, who falls for her at one glance.
All these characters have to work through their new relationships and situations. I enjoyed following their paths, but the romances that developed seemed a bit too quick. Santiago takes one look at Callie and decides she is the one for him. She’s a strong and admirable character, but there is no way that he could have known that when he met her. He was just a bit too good to be true and that detracted from the portrayal of their relationship. But, otherwise, the story was very enjoyable.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

A very interesting twist in this storyline of 3 half siblings being brought together by their paternal grandfather and how they end up relating not only to each other, but in relationships with friends and significant others. The multi-layered plot lines of the individual siblings and how the storylines intertwined was quite interesting and entertaining. I couldn't put the book down and ended up reading it throughout the night!

This is a wonderful book about love and family. My emotions got a good workout in this beautifully written story.
Sometimes a family grows in the most unexpected ways and they let it, it can all of their hearts with so much contentment, peace, love and joy. This is a book about just that and I highly recommend it.

This is a great book with a wonderful, heartfelt story. It is a second chance story with a bit of a twist. If you are a fan of Susan Mallery this is a must read. If you have never read her books this is a good one to begin with.
