The Erratics is a very strange and disturbing memoir. Initially I found it quite difficult to get into it and the writing style was unusual in that it was often abrupt and harsh, stabbing words in sentences which jumped around rather than running smoothly.
Once having accepted this style of writing and suspending my expectations I was able to really read what was happening to Vicki, her sister, her father and even her mother. Vicki who lives in Sydney is separated from her family who live in Canada but this separation is not just physical and Vicki tells about her returning visits when her mother falls and her hipbone crumbles and breaks, ending in having to be admitted to hospital with little chance of getting out. Together with her sister she endeavours to use this to ensure their mother doesn’t return to their father who they believe has been systematically and intentionally made unwell by their mother who they want to be retained in hospital as being incompetent.
While set in the magnificent location of the Rockies in Canada, this complex and unhappy story gradually unfolds in a erratic and disjointed manner.
I am still pondering about this memoir which I suppose reflects positively on the author but I can’t be decisive on how I feel about it. Once getting over the initial hurdle of the different writing style I did become emerged into the story. I confess I found the last chapter a little puzzling except to explain the name given to the book.

Thank you to Netgalley and publisher, Finch Publishing for an ebook copy to read and review.

Sigh... I think this one was a case of it's me not the book.

I got to 25% in and couldn't do it anymore.

I hate being a quitter, but sometimes you just have to say no more.. Like the title, the writing was erratic and I was confused and wasn't sure what was happening.

**I hate that I have to give a star rating for a book I did not finish**

Maybe I gave up to soon and it got better, however I couldn't continue.
