Ok book , good read, lousy ending. It was a good story that kept you wanting to keep reading. But it was like we got to the end and it was time to end it. The whole story was deep and then it just ended.

This book was so entertaining. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and was involved until the end. The characters were complex and interesting. I found the story to be well paced and engrossing throughout the whole book. I was invested in the couple throughout the book and felt all the emotions through both the highs and lows of the story. The side characters were such an integral part of this story as well. This is the love story i needed to read at this time. If you want an entertaining and well written book this is it for you

Sexy times, nerds, sisters, and not taking bs...those are the absolute wins in this story. There are things that don't work as well for me, but the good outweighs the bad, thankfully, and this turned into an enjoyable read.

I'm a huge sucker for a brainy female and when she's all quirky weird and yet cute I love to see her get a partner that truly understands her and adores her for all of it. Sophie does find that in Cain, though their journey isn't exactly smooth sailing. She needed to find her confidence and her passion and she did eventually find both of those things in a way that was believable.

With Cain being an alcoholic there are things there that need to be resolved and I feel like some of it gets brushed under the rug or is solved magically by loving Sophie. He also didn't treat her very well at times. His treatment of her, his refusal to overcome his addiction on his own in a healthy, lasting way, his refusal to move forward with Sophie because of a strange attachment to his hurt pride...what began as a man in pain that I could connect with devolved into an abusive man who was good in the sack that had to be saved from himself. He made up for it in the end though with his confessions and his heart.

A good story overall, I enjoyed many parts of this and am curious about Bella's story.

This book was a quick read and it was just okay. I really enjoyed the beginning and then nothing seemed to be happening. It was really slow for about 50% of the story so that took away from what I was really enjoying. I did like both Cain and Sophie a lot and I will probably read the other book in the series at some point. But I think I could have done with some more to the whole book.

This one was just not for me. While I loved the heroine and all her quirks, I strongly disliked the hero, Cain. I found him problematic.

One can never go wrong with an Erin McCarthy novel. Anyone who is looking for a delicious male and a sassy yet intelligent female lead will always enjoy.

THE HOOKUP - Erin McCarthy

#1 in The Jordan Brothers romance series

GREAT CHARACTERS! - 5 stars

Plot - 4.5 stars - Sophie is looking to lose her virginity, so she hits on Cain at a local bar. But somehow they click, their chemistry is hot, and their relationship becomes something much more than either of them anticipated or even wanted.

Writing - 5 stars - McCarthy got my attention right from the first page. She writes in a fun and comfortable style that makes it easy to breeze through the story and get involved with the characters. As for the characters, she's built good back stories that really makes you empathize with them even though they are both so different from each other and from this reader.

Characters - 5 stars - This is where the story shone for me. Sophie is adorably awkward, totally straightforward, and admittedly unknowledgeable about societal behaviors. But she's totally cute in her totally dorky way, and with her earnestness and eagerness to learn. Cain is wallowing in his misery after a horrendous family betrayal, and Sophie is just the honest woman he needs to get himself out of his rut. He should be unappealing because of his constant drinking and obvious need to punish himself and everyone around him, but instead I found myself rooting for him and hoping he could find himself again. He's close to his family, for the most part, and that's always a plus for me too.

Title - 4.5 stars - This is how their relationship began, but there's so much more to it than that. However, it's a good title to catch a potential reader's attention.

Cover - 4 stars - Nothing totally special, but I'm glad there are two people rather than a lone man, which is the usual cover for this genre.

Overall - 5 stars - I had absolutely no expectations about this book, and I was totally surprised and pleased with how easy it was to read and how wonderfully crafted the characters were. Both main characters are a little different from the norm, and that's probably what drew me to them initially. Sophia is an adorable nerd, making no excuses about it and perfectly willing to admit her confusion about dealing with standard societal rules. Cain, although outwardly unattractive because of his obvious misery about his personal life, shows a glimpse of a strong man underneath all the pain--his vulnerability was very appealing. Although these characters are fairly opposite, they click immediately and I was totally absorbed in following the building of their relationship and hoping for the happily-ever-after ending. Loved it!

A quick romantic read. The heroine was a lot of fun with all her quirkiness. I'll admit to struggling with the hero for the most part, but by the end, I was on board the relationship between him and the heroine. I definitely need to read more from Erin McCarthy!

This is the first book I've read by Erin McCarthy and I enjoyed it! I liked this book mainly for the two main characters, Sophie and Cain as well as the slow-burn romance! Sophie was a unique character that I really enjoyed reading about. She is smart, funny, says what's on her mind, doesn't care what people think and I loved that about her. She also overthinks and overanalyzes everything which made her a character I can relate too. I also loved how she accepted Cain for who he is. Cain's character was very real and raw and I liked how unique that made him as a character. I also liked how accepting he was of Sophie.

I had a great time reading about the romance between Sophie and Cain. It was such a fun time watching the two characters spending time with one another, getting to know each other and seeing the romance building between these two characters.

Overall I thought the story was quite different and a lot of fun to read! I look forward to reading the next book in the series and reading other books by this author!

I enjoyed reading Sophie and Cain’s love story. Emotional and engaging read. There’s a little humor. One night turns into unexpected love. Sophie was determined and Cain was a troubled soul. When the two got together they both found out that they could provide so much more than they thought they needed from each other. Secrets from the past and Cain’s emotional struggles challenge their second chance. Only slight disappointment is that one aspect was left unresolved. Hope the next book will resolve the issue. Still a great read. love the characters in the book especially Sophie. Recommended read.

Such a cute read!! I couldn't out down my Kindle. When

Sophie Bigelow is spending some time at her parent's massive home in Maine helping her sister get ready for her upcoming wedding in just 2+ weeks. Her selfish parents decided to fly to France for a vacation and left Sophie with her self -absorbed older sister, Bella. Sophie is a mathematics genius currently finishing up her Masters degree at Harvard with her focus on a PhD. Boys, a social life, etc. we're never on the 24 year old's agenda. That is until her trip to Maine. She's determined to lose her V-card during this trip. She may have her quirks, but she knows exactly what she wants, and plans to achieve this goal.

When she meets Cain in a bar in town, she makes it very clear what she wants from him. One night.

Cain is fighting demons that has led him to become an alcoholic. He knows what he's turned into, and if he's the talk of the town; So be it. Meeting Sophie is refreshing, she somehow managed to stop his demons ranger from surfacing when he is springtime with her. What started out as a one time fling, suddenly becomes more on both sides.

Bella starts freaking out and acting differently a few days before her wedding and Sophie takes notice. Her selfish, marriage minded sister starts acting out and Sophie doesn't know how to deal with her.

But when Cain's ex comes back to town, Sophie realizes just how different they really are;and not just their lifestyles. It all comes crashing down when he starts a bar fight, humiliating Sophie in the process, and hurting her more than anyone has ever done before. So she walks away. She doesn't need to be around someone who verbally tears her apart in a public bar while he's hammered. She knows that she has feelings for him, yet he just destroyed everything with words that she'll never forget.

After Cain sobers up, he realizes that he loves her, but he messed up big time. When he goes to apologize to her, she says goodbye.

What will it take for him to realize that he lost the best thing that ever happened to him?

Sophie is going through the motions of assisting her sister, Bella, with her wedding. She’s the nerd in her family and wants nothing to do with the fru-fru and bridezilla tactics displayed by her sister and mother. But something’s off about Bella’s behavior and Sophie doesn’t know what to make of it.

All Sophie wants to do is rid herself of her “innocence” but whom to choose to do the deed? Enter Cain, the identical twin brother of the guy who’s bartending for her sister’s bachelorette party. He’s a good looking, bad boy type but his conversation is music to Sophie’s ears.

Cain is at his wits end. His ex-girlfriend is back in town and he and his brother are on the outs. Only the bottom of a whisky or beer bottle is a friend to him until this brainiac, plain-spoken little slip of a woman sits down at the bar beside him. Well, if it’s a hookup she wants then he’ll be more than happy to oblige her. After all, they both agree that it’s only a temporary thing and then she’ll be moving off back to school and he can forget all about her…right?

I really enjoyed this book. It was engaging and interesting. A great quick read for me personally, but something I think our audience will really enjoy.

There is wonderful writing in this sweet romance and interesting choices for characters makes for an enjoyable read. Sophie is a smart girl that’s more comfortable with numbers than with people and is ready to lose her virginity. Enter Cain, the hot hunk she meets in a bar. This guy has some issues especially with alcohol. The dichotomy of these two lead to some entertaining and emotional interactions. Cain’s family problems and his drinking are difficult issues and make him unlikeble at times but he’s wonderful and accepting of Sophie and her quirks. Likewise she is understanding and supportive of Cain. They are a really cute couple. This is an emotional read but worth it. I voluntarily reviewed a NetGalley ARC.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this book or not but I ended up enjoying it. Sophie’s character sounded to me like someone with Aspergers with her OCD tendencies and issues with reading social cues and some of her other quirks. I found her character interesting and her perspective of things original. I loved how Cain’s character accepted her for her quirks and didn’t see anything wrong with her.
Interesting story, very well done.

The Hookup by Erin McCarthy get a solid 4/5 stars from me. The premise of this story is the very definition of opposites attract. Despite their differences, the MCs understand each other in a way no one has every understood them before. There was lots of angst and drama and of course lots of sexy times!

Sophie is in Harvard getting her PhD. SHe has been so focused on her education, that she has neglected other areas of her life, hence the need for a hookup. Sophie is a math genius so its hard for her to form personal relationships, since most people don’t get her. While helping plan her sister’s wedding, she meets Cain. Cain is fighting lots of demons, and his favorite way of fighting them is at the bottom of a bottle. His twin brother betrayed him in the worst way and is now raising a son that may or may not be Cain’s. How do you come back from that type of betrayal? Sophie and Cain collide and cannot stay away from each other. Sophie is understood and Cain starts to find a way to avoid the alcohol.

I liked reading The Hookup, but sometimes it was hard to read how much Cain was wallowing and drowning in alcohol without really wanting to get better. Cain was great at reading Sophie and their humor together. I loved their chemistry and how he taught her more about her body and pleasure, but there was so much drama sometimes I was not sure what would happen.

We were left with several questions that will be answered in the next book, The Breakup. This book is between Cain’s twin, Christian, and Bella, Sophie’s sister. We also never found out why Christian did what he did to Cain and I hate not knowing the answer to that question! Other than this, I really found the novel entertaining.

I liked the romance between Cain and Sophie. It was great to read how well they really understood each other and were able to look past each other’s faults. Sophie was quirky and sarcastic and great for Cain. I cannot wait to see what else will happen in the sequel, The Breakup.
