I enjoyed reading about Sophie and Cain in The Hookup by Erin McCarthy, her first book in The Jordan Brothers series. Sophie comes from a wealthy family, the younger sister and is a bit different from the norm; she lacks social graces and is a genius. I thought maybe this Harvard Math whiz was on the edge spectrum, maybe Aspergers, especially since she said whatever she was thinking. Sophie was also a twenty-five year old virgin and ready to give it up. Cain, a lobster fisherman, is a broken man, being in the same town as his deceitful twin brother, Christain, who may or may not be the father of the baby boy Cain thought was his. This is the reason he drowns his sorrows by drinking himself to excess each day after the boat docks. Cain is also charming, sexy, and bored with his life, whether drunk or sober. When Sophie enters a bar with her sister and asks him to take her virginity, he knows she will be the perfect distraction from his feud with his brother. This was supposed to be a one-night hookup but Sophie soon becomes an addiction that Cain does not want to stop. The more time Cain spends with Sophie he wonders if she will be the one to make him change ways?

I truly enjoyed reading this book and had trouble putting this book down. Ms. Law wrote a wonderful story that had me smiling at the end. She drew me in and did not let go until I turned the last page. I definitely recommend this book to other readers and I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book supplied by the publisher through Netgalley.

What starts off as a casual hookup turns out to be so much more in this sexy yet quirky story of Cain and Sophie. Cain brings the sexy and Sophie brings the quirky. I love both characters, and they are a perfect match, the correct answer to the love equation if you will. They complement and comfort each other in so many ways-physically, emotionally, and mentally. Cain finds Sophie's sense of humor (or lack thereof) and blunt nature refreshing. On the other hand, Cain is exactly what Sophie needs with his carefree yet stern attitude. They come from different backgrounds and are pursuing different futures. This presents several obstacles, heightening the tension well. A lot of the plot actually reminds me of The Notebook, with key differences of course. But if you are fans of that book (and you better be!), The Hookup is definitely for you!

Sophie is a sweet nerd of a girl who has spent her life studying. Cain is a bad boy with no direction in life and a drinking problem to boot. This is a little painful at times to watch them both navigate through life BUT real life can be painful as well! Erin McCarthy does an amazing job of making her characters seem so real while we fall in love along with them! A great read!

The Hookup, by Erin McCarthy, is the 1st book in her new "Jordan Brothers" series.
Sophie is a math major working towards her PhD. She is determined to hookup with a stranger for one night to lose her virginity. Cain is a lobster fisherman who drowns his sorrows nightly at the local bar.
While out celebrating her sister's upcoming wedding Cain spots Sophie, not your average girl, and the hookup begins. However, once the sparks start to fly a one night stand becomes impossible.
A hot, fun and very entertaining book that I couldn't put down.

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept for an arc of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

The Hookup by Erin McCarthy is the first book in the Jordan Brothers series, and let me just say, this could be one of my all time favorite series. I instantly fell in love with Cain and Sophie. I loved that both of them were a bit lost and wondering around when they found each other. I love that neither of them are afraid to hide who they really are from the other. I loved their connection and how they knew from the get go that they were different.

One of the things I loved most about this book is how we see Cain at his worst. He's an alcoholic poo laundry and simple. Erin didn't sugar coat this and make it a non-existent issue. Throughout the book we see Sophie acknowledge this, come to terms with it, and ultimately decide whether or not she can deal with this. Sophie on the other hand is socially awkward, and a bit ocd. I love that Sophie didn't change, not after becoming comfortable with Cain, not after signs of trouble in her life, no matter what happened Sophie stayed Sophie. I love that Cain encouraged her to be herself and not to change.

The Hookup was a fast read but I enjoyed it so much that I may have skipped a meal just to keep reading. After reading this one I NEED Erin to hurry and write the next book because I need my Jordan Brothers fix and fast!

Sophie Bigelow is a mathematical genius with a touch of OCD. She hasn't learned the art of subterfuge. So when her and sister Bella walk into a bar, all her lady parts woke up. But the minute he sees her sister, Sophie becomes invisible. Bella is just out for fun because she is engaged. She has no problem introducing the two of them. Cain Jordan is a local fisherman and hot as sin. He is also a functioning alcoholic. Two people who are the opposite of each other, yet they click. She makes him laugh and smile. He knows she will never lie to him. Sophie realizes he is the first person that really gets who she is and likes her. These two just made me smile and laugh. Tough times await them. In the end you will be rooting for the HEA.

A couple of years ago I read this author’s Fast Track series and really enjoyed it for the most part. Somehow she fell off my radar after that though. When this popped up as a potential ARC I knew the name sounded familiar. When I realized this book was by the author of those books I was all over it. Man, this story was awesome. I’m so glad to have Erin McCarthy back on my radar!

Although there were quite a few things in this story that made me laugh, I wouldn’t consider this a light-hearted book in any way. In fact, it is quite a gut punch a lot of the time. I was in tears more than once. Not because the hero or heroine were bad to each other, but because others were really not so great to them. There were also so many tender moments. The author did an excellent job of taking a potentially hot and steamy scene and adding a lot of heart, then taking a tender moment and giving it humor, then taking a humorous moment and turning it steamy. So many emotions.

I can’t say that Cain wasn’t a glutton for punishment. He definitely has his reasons for being the way he is, but that doesn’t’ really excuse all of his behavior. But I can’t help but be furious at his family for acting like he’s done something wrong and that he’s caused all the problems. I’m sure we’ll get his brother’s side of the story in the next book, and there may be a good reason for his actions. Yet that will still never excuse the way Cain was treated in the aftermath of all that happened.

As for Sophie, I’ve unfortunately seen it in real life too many times. The offspring doesn’t fit into a mold the parents can or want to understand and therefore make said offspring feel “less than”. No matter the praise for her brains and her accomplishments, Sophie is still made to feel like she’s not “normal” by her own family…the people she loves and should love her with no conditions.

Reading the story of Sophie and Cain is like taking the first big hill on a roller coaster. It climbs up and you can feel that anticipation of knowing that once you reach the top you’re going to go careening at a fast and unstoppable pace. I loved it!

The Hookup
By: Erin McCarthy

📚💕⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💕📚

Dysfunctional is the least of Cain and Sophie’s problems.

Authors Blurb: Is there an equation for the perfect hookup? Turns out it’s a lot more complicated than one plus one. . . .

Sophie: Numbers are my comfort zone, which explains why my sex life is a big fat zero. Then again, if I’m smart enough to earn a PhD, why can’t I calculate a way to get a guy into bed, just to see what all the fuss is about? With my prima donna sister, Bella, getting married in Maine, I figure her wedding is the perfect opportunity for my little experiment. And Cain Jordan seems hot enough—he’s certainly drunk enough—to show me what I’ve been missing. Judging by the body of evidence, it’s a lot. . . .

Cain: Being stuck in the same town as my lying SOB twin brother, Christian—who may or may not be the father of the son I’m not allowed to see—is a hell of a reason to drink myself silly after the lobster boat docks each day. Any port in a storm . . . But Sophie’s different. She doesn’t play around. And she’s becoming a habit I don’t want to break. Because the smartest woman I’ve ever met is also the sexiest—and the only one who makes me want to change.

Is there an equation for the perfect hookup? Turns out it’s a lot more complicated than one plus one. . . .

I really enjoyed this book and it kept me engrossed throughout. I really loved the characters and the way they interacted with each other. This is a fun, hot, romantic must read book and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.

Erin McCarthy has written a book that has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a four star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.

Thanks Netgally for letting me read and review.📚💕

I'm completely speechless......this book was amazing!!!!!! You really get a sense of the characters true feelings and while I agree that at times Cain can be a complete jerk, there's so much more to it than that. He's hurting and he doesn't know how to deal with it so he lashes out.....at everyone. Until Sophie comes along. She's so honest and forthright about everything; she doesn't know how to be any other way. She just wants to be treated like everyone else, but people are intimidated by her brain; including her own family, but not Cain. The both see the good and the bad in each other, but accept themselves and each other for who they are, flaws and all.

I love how this story shows things that truly happen in everyday life, both good and bad. You see the struggles that Cain has with alcohol and family issues and you see how Sophie sees so much more than most people thinks she does but she has her own struggles as well. And she has feelings just like everyone else.

Sophie and Cain make each other want to be the best version of themselves.

I wasn’t sure what I was getting with this book, but it was way more than I thought it was going to be. I absolutely loved Sophie. She was genius level smart, a little quirky, socially inept, and yet a wonderfully honest person. Cain was the proverbially bad boy, being alcoholic with a bad attitude. But he saw something in Sophie who was in his hometown for her sister’s wedding and a one night stand was supposed to commence. It did, but became so much more than a Hookup. Beautifully written, this story had Heart written all over it. I thought it was well written and thoroughly enjoyed it.

This book was oh sooo good, I could not put it down.

This is book one in the series, and it is Sophie and Cain's story, I love these two together, Sophie is a numbers girl and is working towards her PhD and Cain he's a lobster fisherman, how much more opposite could these two be? But they say opposites attract, well Cain and Sophie have it in spades.

I really loved how Sophie and Cain met and her determination for their one night together to be just that, one night, so that she could lose her virginity with no strings attached. What Sophie did not count on was falling for Cain and attaching a string to him, till their worlds collide and come crashing down.

Will there be a happily ever after for Cain and Sophie???

Cant wait for the next book in the series.

Enjoyed this fun read. I loved the characters. Especially Sophie. Reminds me so much of me with the no filter and just lets it all out! Cain is a hard character to love with all his flaws. But Sophie breaks him down. I really enjoyed the ride. I wish there was more!

The good storyline and the well detailed characters kept my interest throughout the entire book! I enjoyed this book so much that I ended up reading this book in one sitting!

Tough one to review! I must say I really enjoyed this one. There wasn't anything "wow" about it but it was entertaining and the characters were intriguing. Sophie with her slightly OCD ways and straightforward talk was hilarious. My heart broke for Cain but he needed someone to shake up his pity party. Thankfully Sophie was the perfect person for the job. Sophie was always serious with her head stuck in her books while working toward her PhD. Never having time for a social life. Now she's determined to lose her VCard and bad boy Cain is just the man for the job. Cain was betrayed by his brother and girlfriend and is currently losing himself in one night stands and the bottle. Sophie seems like just another in a long line but she turns out not to be just another hookup!

Very entertaining read that I definitely recommend.

A heart-breaking, yet heart warning story about learning from your mistakes and growing from what you mistakes. Cain is an alcoholic who sees no point in changing his ways. His brother and girlfriend betrayed him in the worst possible way. And to add insult to injury, the rest of his family believes he needs to grow up and get over it. Sophie is a woman who is wicked smart and is liked past, in favor to her sister. When they meet sparks fly, but it is only supposed to be one night.
The best laid plans never seem to go as planned and they can't stay away from one another. Neither one wanted their time to end, but he believes that he isn't good enough for her. Just when everything seems too good to be true, it comes crashing down in spectacular fashion. Can Cain come out of the darkness in time to recapture the light that Sophie brought to him? Will Sophie be able to give her heart to him after he ruined things?
I absolutely loved this book and can't wait for the next book. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest, voluntary review.

I think I'm in love with Sophie! She has such a dry sense of humor and I loved her! Poor Cain...he certainly got a raw deal. I felt for him.

What a fabulous book!!!

3.5 stars! I enjoyed this story. I love Cain despite all of this issues and I liked him with Sophie. Their connection was inconsistent though. Sometimes I felt it and sometimes I didn't. I loved that Sophie wasn't your typical heroine. Her blunt honesty was extremely refreshing, but there was also a sort of detachedness about her that made her connection with Cain falter at times. The ending of this book is what really redeemed it for me. Cain truly impressed me and I'm dying to know what went down with Bella and Christian. I feel like the next book will fill in a lot of holes that seemed to be in this one.

I haven't read anything by Erin McCarthy in a couple of years, so it was really rewarding to read this book. It's really good. I really enjoyed reading about Cain and Sophie. Also, I really liked the fact that Cain was so flawed. The secondary characters were intriguing. I'm looking forward to reading the next book. All in all, this was a very enjoyable, contemporary read. It will be going on my recommend list for sure.

The Hookup is socially awkward vs. Social pariah of his own making.
She is the mildly OCD NERD girl. He is the angry drunk. They aren't from the same worlds or even stratosphere. But they work and they both find something more than they ever expected from a hook up.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Loveswept for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I hate to say it but this book really got to me and not in a good way in the beginning. I love Sophie and her no nonsense ways but to want to lose your virginity to some stranger in a bar just to get it out of the way had me about ready to do something I have never done and put in a DNF pile. Then there is Cain, the love interest. He’s an alcoholic, sleeps with anything that moves kind of guy. I kind of saw disaster written all over this book. Then throw in the angst and, “oh brother.” Plus there were a few eye rolling parts.

What saved it for me was actually Sophie. Her quirkiness was pretty endearing to me so I had to go on. She was totally not Cain’s type or the kind of woman he usually goes after. I feel that difference is what attracted her to him and had him wanting more with her than he has with any other woman in a long time.

I’m actually glad that I decided to forge through this one. I can actually see them as a real couple who are flawed and have demons to overcome. So I am glad that the author didn’t sugar coat that. I was a little bothered by the ending and felt that it needed a little more. Of what, I’m not sure but just a little more.
I kind of can’t wait for the next book in this series. I’d like to see what Bella and Christian have in store for them. I’m hoping we hear a little more from Cain and Sophie.
