Hot Target by April Hunt is book Four in the Alpha Security series. This is the story of Rachel Kline and Logan Callahan.
I felt this was easily a standalone book.
Rachel is out looking for her friend in Vegas but she is in danger. Logan had one night with Rachel but he knows that isn't enough...he wants more. Logan is willing to help find Rachel find her friend and work toward his goal of being more to Rachel.
Quick exciting packed book!

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

This was book #4 in a series and while I could follow most of the plot, there still was some confusion about some of the characters and their relationship to each other. The back story which was only mentioned in parts was that Logan was part of a team that rescued Rachel and Carly when they were held as prisoners by a drug lord.

So, Logan and Rachel kind of know each other and have not acted on their attraction until their meeting in Las Vegas. It was fun to see them as they ran for their lives and tried to stay a step ahead of thugs trying to kill them as they searched for Carly.

I loved that the book combined romance and intrigue and threw in a good dose of humor! It was also nice that after knowing each other for a while, they now were able to open up to each other. I thought it was great that Rachel felt so badly for Logan when she heard that his fiance dumped him that she cried.

The conclusion to the kidnapping seemed to end pretty quickly but I thought the epilogue with the wedding was a great HEA and full of humor.

3.5 to 4 stars

Hot Target is a fast paced read, and although it can be read as a standalone, I feel that it is best read in order in the series for the best experience.

Rachel's backstory was introduced in prior books as her sister and the Alpha team rescued her from a horrible situation. Logan was there for her through the aftermath and her long road to recovery, and although he is interested in more with her, he understands she is still very skittish. When she finally gives in to the UST for one hit night, he thinks they are on the same page at long last until he wakes up to find her gone.

What Logan doesn't know is that Rachel received a cryptic message from her terrified best friend Carly and she took off for Vegas to find out what is going on.

What happens in Vegas doesn't stay there- it takes a quick detour straight into crazy town! With a police raid on a brothel that snags Rachel, flying bullets and snipers, wedding chapels with Elvis and Priscilla, a fantasy hotel hot tub complete with floating lily pads, and former military operators executing a rescue, there's a lot packed into this novella but it was a lot of fun for me as a fan of the series. If you are a fan of romantic suspense and alpha males who are not alpha-holes, then you should check out the whole Alpha Security series!

I will not restate the plot nor reveal any spoilers in this review.
HOT TARGET BY APRIL HUNT is a fast paced rollercoaster from beginning to end. For a novella, the characters were well-rounded and the suspense was awesome. As you start reading this book you are made aware of previous events involving the characters but that does not affect the plot. The main characters, Rachel and Logan, are people who can dig deep inside themselves to find strength to endure the hard edges of life. And yet, they are also vulnerable and allow that vulnerability to add to their strength of character. These character traits are hard to get across in a short story but April Hunt achieves this masterfully. This book is a suspenseful romance full of drama and has the HEA ending.

3⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love this series and was excited to finally read Rachel’s book but I wish there was more. The interaction between her and Logan is so good and they compliment each other well. My only problem is that I didn’t get enough of there story. April Hunt always does an amazing job keeping you on the edge of your seat and she did not disappoint with this book. Definitely a good read and should be on your TBR list.

I really had a tough time connecting with this book. From the first page I was completely lost. It felt like I started the book smack dab in the middle. It's possible because it was an ongoing storyline it's my issue for not being familiar with the author and her work. On the other hand, I think that the author should have made sure that you could immerse yourself in the story despite not fully knowing the prior events. Instead you should want to explore the other books and meet the characters.

An addicting addition to the Alpha Security series, Hot Target is an action romance on every page. After spending months recovering from the hands of a mad man, Rachel has somehow ended up in another dangerous world. A frantic call from her best friend leads her into a vegas underground world filled with drugs, violence, and extreme risk. Only one man from the aloha Security team is available to help her and it’s none other than Logan Callahan, the sweet talkin southern charmer that she spent months dreaming about.

Logan doesn’t know how Rachel’s managed to get herself in trouble again but he’d do anything to keep her safe and out of harms way. From the minute he sets eyes on her in Vegas, it’s a fun-run for your life romance filled with disguises, undercover ops, and a whole lot of sexy intrigue. I wish there had been more of this sexy cowboy and redeemed beauty but Hunt did our Aloha hero justice!

This is the fourth book in the Alpha Security series. I do suggest you read them in order.

Rachel has gone through rehab from the drug that was forced into her while she was in Honduras. But now she finds herself in a Vegas jail because of a brothel raid. She needs to find Carly.

Logan is the cowboy alpha agent with the funny shirts.

I really like both Racehl and Logan.

There were some funny parts, like the condom. There was action as well, also some steamy scenes.

This is a novella, the previous tree are full length.

This is the 4th book of a standalone series about a group of men called the Alpha group. They seem to be a group that helps the government with various activities. I did try to catch up on this group by reading the first book in this series and it helped me figure out the general plot line. Rachel and Logan are the primaries for this book. Because I had read the first book I knew Rachel’s backstory so felt that I knew where she was coming from. Logan was always the happy go lucky one of the group, but he was a sniper in the marines. However that was all I really knew about him. This was an interesting plot but not very developed. If you want a light read in a contemporary setting with an alpha guy and a feisty woman, this is a good read.

This book was fast and furious yet not lacking in detail or excitement making it completely entertaining. It's the fourth book in a series but you can read standalone although I do think you will appreciate it more if you have read the prior books. Although this is a novella it has plenty of action, suspense and romance. Everything between Rachel and Logan moves along at a nice pace rather than having the back and forth we get in other stories. There is great banter and chemistry between these two.

I definitely recommend this one.

Logan keeps running into Rachel and when she was in travel in Vegas, she finds him rescuing her again.
They fell into bed together before she left him and came to Vegas to rescue her friend in trouble.
Rachel has a history (which was described but maybe previous book had more detailed one) with drugs, capture in Honduras and she is still recovering from. Her life has been ever changed since she came back from Honduras.
Rachel was trying to rescue her friend but she gets into trouble and Logan came to help her out but right outside of police station, snipers are aiming at them. They needed a fast get away. They are in the run and Logan is trying to figure out to get them out safely. But it is not as easy as they thought.

It was short novella about Logan and Rachel. It can be stand alone but i think story will be better understood if I read the previous series.
I would honesty give 3 1/2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hot Target was a fast-paced and sexy novella! The story immediately jumped into the action and never stopped! I thought the plot of the novella was so much fun and very addicting.

Since this was a novella, you really had to read the previous books to get a better understanding of the characters and their history. Rachel and Logan had a lot of chemistry that had been built up from the previous books! Rachel has gone through a lot and Logan was always there to support her and care for her. It was nice to see them to really connect emotionally on a new level throughout this novella. They understood what it was like to struggle and try and recover from their past! Their relationship finally fully developed and became very steamy and romantic

If you are a fan of this series, this is definitely a novella you will not want to miss! This steamy and fun novella is a great addition to the series!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review of this book, through Netgalley.

I will start by saying that this is the first in this series or by this author, that I have read. I do think that some of the things that I didn't care for in this story were due in part to the fact that I haven't read the first 3 books and this is a novella type.

The editing and writing style were good. I think the characters were probably good as well had the first three books been read first. I was under the impression, maybe my fault, that thI books were standalone with cross story characters. Much of this book left me feeling as if I was missing a large part of what was happening between these characters, that there were big chunks of their stories missing.

Although there is definitely hot chemistry between the H and h, I just felt that this storyline was too rushed, with too many missing pieces to be fully enjoyable for me.

This was a quick read. Although it is the fourth book of the series it does fine as a stand alone. I haven't read any of the previous books and I followed along, malthough it probably would have been enhanced by he backstory. There was plenty of steam and plenty of action, along with some humor. The set up kinda annoyed me, because obviously she has access to an elite security company, yet she decided that even though her friend is in trouble she can help by herself......But overall this was a fun read.

This was an enjoyable novella. That drew me in and had enough to hold my interest throughout. Including a little action and suspense and I honestly never once felt lost or confused by having not read any of the previous books in this series. But I certainly would check them out in the future after reading this.
And I'd happily recommend Hot Target to others. Especially if you're a fan of the series or similar stories such as Cristin Harber's Titian Series or Lynn Raye Harris's Hostile Ops Series.

Quick read

A emotional and suspenseful story. Being the 4th in series I felt like I was missing some of the back story in a few places but enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading more.

I voluntarily read an advanced copy.

I’ve really enjoyed April Hunt’s Alpha Security series , and this was no exception. Love the characters in this series , and they pop up in each book. Lots of action and suspense. I just wish it would have been longer , so we could get to know the characters better

This book started off strong and kept the excitement and suspense, not to mention the romance, moving at a brisk pace. Both main characters were likable and there was a lot of heat between them. I did get a feeling of missing out on a little, since this book is not the first in the series. It wasn’t anything that hampered my enjoyment of the book, just wishing I knew more of the secondary characters and their back stories. I only wish it had been a bit longer, since the world the author created was fun to hang out in.

I really had trouble getting into the book initially and getting caught up in the emotions of the characters. The storyline was good, but it just didn’t stand out in my mind amongst other books in the genre. The blurb was great, but overall the book just fell flat for me.

Rachel Kline, the main character in Hot Target, is an intriguing character. In a former book (I haven't read the former book so I don't know which one it was), Rachel was kidnapped and forcibly given a drug that caused addiction. She was apparently rescued by Logan and others in this Alpha Security group. The book opens in a fascinating prologue with Rachel in a rehab facility. The woman is experiencing withdrawals from the drug as well as claustrophobia issues from her kidnapping. Logan is there to be support for her.

Jumping ahead 18 months, Rachel is in jail in Las Vegas for attempting to find her friend Carlie at a brothel that got raided. Logan again comes to the rescue, even though Rachel had snuck out of his bed. From there, it's a mile-a-minute pacing. Hunt placed the characters in dangerous scenes and comic scenes, and Rachel and Logan shone no matter what situation they were in. The characters made the extended Elvis Chapel scene good, which took some skill. Considering this is a novella, there is a good amount of backstory and action, which is always tricky in shorter stories. There are even secondary characters that are decently developed for a novella.
