Dr Sara Langdon put aside her painful personal feelings as she returns to Angel Falls because her grandmother needs her. As the police chief, crossing paths with Colton Walker is always going to be inevitable in this small town but she wasn't expecting it to be so soon after her arrival. In her absence, the man whose actions were the catalyst for her fiancé dumping her before her wedding is a good friend of her brother but her grandmother too.
Angel Falls Police Chief Colton Walker loves his life and works in the small town he calls home. When his best friend's ex-fiancée arrives back to help care for her elderly grandmother he knew he was heading for trouble. Especially when the woman isn't aware of all the facts...the truth.
When you're blamed for causing the break-up and ensuing embarrassment for the bride jilted before her wedding, Colton's coping strategy towards Sara does little to improve their fractured relationship. His actions aggravate her anger towards him until the truths from their high school years are uncovered and changes their attitude and feelings towards each other for the better.
Sworn enemies to lovers, this is a slow burn romance with sexual tension sizzling in the background. The protagonists both struggle to ignore their attraction to each other and use defence mechanisms to try to counteract the draw to each other. With them both basing their attitudes on what they believe to be true of the other, it isn't until Tagg, the person with links to them both that the truth begins to surface. Only he also wants Sara back...
As the first book in this Angel Falls series, The There Was You has established a wonderful foundation for future novels set against this small town backdrop. The secondary characters lend a warm family and community spirit to the proceedings. I really enjoyed how the families of both protagonists complemented them and their tentative relationship as we learn more about them too. Whilst I mostly loved this aspect of the narrative, there's phase in the middle of the novel where I would have preferred more emphasis on Sara and Colton. Overall, I appreciated the sentiment enough to continue and read more from this Angel Falls series and Ms Liasson.

My Review:
Regardless of the author, I seem to brace myself when diving into the start any new series with an equal sense of trepidation and anticipation. My response to this sparkling entry was a zealous fist pump and head cheerleader worthy squeal. I needed something fresh and engaging and Sara’s less than confident return to her small-town was just what I needed. The storylines were appealing as well as relevant and relatable, the characters were endearing and realistic, and the writing was pleasantly easy to follow yet craftily observant and amusing, and held my interest throughout. The richly detailed narrative made excellent work of introducing the town and key characters while cunningly laying the groundwork and setting up the series for subsequent installments, and I am eager to schedule a return visit for a family dinner or two at Nonna’s and perhaps some coffee and cake at the Bean. And that’s that.

I love enemies-to-lovers stories, especially ones where the main characters were so much fun to watch together. Especially when they have a connection and so much history together. Miranda Liasson gave us a sweet and charming story full of laughs and swooning in Then There Was You, her first book in the Angel Falls series.
Colton was the boy that was always irritating and annoying Sara as they grew up. Add in she blames him for ruining her almost wedding and we have quite the story! Sara has been away from Angel Falls for ten years, but when she is needed back home, she has no choice but to return. Now Colton Walker is the police chief and her very first patient.
At the start, it seems Colton and Sara are determined to stay away from each other, but somehow keep running into each other. When one things lead to another, can Colton and Sara see what they could have together, or will she always see the man she blames for her heartache?
Then There Was You was such a cute read and I am looking forward to reading more of what the author has to offer in her Angel Falls series. I loved both main characters and their journey so much. I was totally charmed by this story.

Then There Was You is your typical enemies to lovers trope and Sara and Colton take their time fighting before they get to the lovers part. It creates a nice tension to their story, but also gives the reader a little time to get to know their pasts and why they always hated each other. Sara’s reason for being back in Angel Falls is a great subplot and humanizes Sara making her more three dimensional. Without dealing with the effects of dementia on a family, as well as learning how to partner with her father in a medical practice I think she would have been just like a lot of other romance heroines, pretty vanilla. Instead we see all that Sara’s got going on in her life, and there is a lot of it! She deals with those problems, while still agonizing over Colton and his behavior towards their budding relationship.
If we had not gotten those family subplots for both Sara and Colton I think I wouldn’t have liked this book as much as I did. There were a few moments between them as a couple that were pretty cliche, but how they dealt with their families, and then each other at the end of the book rounded out their characters and made me like them as a couple. There were a few moments where I wanted to kick Colton in the rear, but that added to the tension in the book very nicely. If you are a fan of Miranda Liasson’s you will love this book- it’s a good start to a brand new series. ❤❤❤❣
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley for my honest review and it was honest!

Melinda Liasson’s new series starts with a bang, with a mix of deep emotions, antagonism, humor and a heartfelt romance that kept me completely engaged.
Sara and Colton are the perfect antagonists. They have a history, one that ended in a not so pretty fashion but needs to be dealt with. The push pull between them was perfect and both Sara and Colton surprised me with their more vulnerable sides. Both are hiding insecurities that have plagued them for most of their lives. Their interaction begins on rocky ground when Sara returns to her small town to join her father’s medical practice and help her ailing grandmother. For her sake, she is willing to face the demons of her past, and that includes Colton.
Colton was the popular jock in high school, until a knee injury changed everything. He is now the police chief of their quaint small town. He is charming and well-liked by most everyone who knows him. As Sara and Colton spend time together, there is plenty of heat and tension between them. Old misunderstandings continue to drive them apart. At first there's plenty of animosity between them, but they can't keep it up. Colton used to think that Sara was spoiled and didn’t have to struggle for anything. The reality is different.
This story warmed my heart, it was a lovely slow burn romance to get lost in. Sara and Colton were perfect together, their chemistry leaped off the pages. I loved the quirky small-town vibe and the characters’ strong sense of family. Miranda Liasson is a new to me author I'm definitely putting on my reading list.

I'm in love!! In love with the wonderfully charming small town of Angel Falls and in love with the town's sexy police chief Colton Walker. Colton and Sara have never really gotten along but he really has no idea why. Sure she's a little uptight and plans out everything but she's nice to every one but Colton. OK and she blames him for her fiancee cheating during his bachelor party but she doesn't know the whole story. Sara isn't sure coming back to Angel Fall's was the right move for her. She wants to help her father in his medical practice but he doesn't want to let go. Then there is Colton and he seems to be everywhere. Getting past her feelings for him won't be easy but if they are going to be living in the same small town she needs to learn to deal with him.
This is a beautifully written feel good romance and just the beginning of what should be an amazing new series. Can't wait for the next book and I definitely recommend this one.

Man, oh man. Aside from the enemies to lovers trope being one of my absolute favorites, the characters just DID it for me! Sara and Colton are my new favs and would it be too much to ask for more of them? They're just too perfect!
I picked this one up at random after I received a copy and it certainly lived up to its front cover blurb because I seriously couldn't put it down! I was so enamored with not only our main couple, but with all of the amazing and lively secondary characters whom I can't wait to read more of!
This one was so full of heart, sharp one-liners and some definite tear-worthy moments. I couldn't recommend it enough!

Wonderful small town/second chance romance. There are a lot of things about this plot that is predictable, but well... it's romance, there are only so many different ways to write this type of story, but what Liasson is great at is writing characters that really draw you in and make you care about their version of this story. Sara comes back to town temporarily because she is sure she knows she isn't a good fit for the town but her character growth in how she sees the town and her family now that she is older is what makes her so interesting.
Colton is easy to like from the start and it is hard to reconcile the man Sara remembers with the man he is today, which thankfully Sara figures out sooner rather than later in the story. Liasson does a great job with their story showing how they are able to get beyond their past so they can have a future.

Dr Serafina Langdon has moved back home to Angel Falls in the wake of her wedding that didn't happen. Starting over surrounded by the family who loves her is the perfect way to find out which direction she wants her life to go. But, being back in Angel Falls also brings her face to face with the one man she has no desire to see... Colton Walker.
Colton Walker is police chief of Angel Falls, local ladies man and best friend to Sara's ex-fiancee. He and Sara have never gotten along, but now that she is back and she is no longer marrying his best friend, the hidden feelings he harbors for her are becoming impossible to hide...
A relationship between Sara and Colton would be filled with too many problems to ever work out, but maybe, just maybe if they forget all of their hangups, they could find a happiness that they never thought they could have...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This was a really great book! Sara and Colton's animosity toward each other is a hilarious and fun beginning to a story filled with love, healing and finding happiness when life throws you a curve ball...
Sara had been with her ex-fiancee since high school, so when he broke her heart, she finds herself lost and completely devastated. Returning home, she moves in with her ailing grandmother and joins her father's medical practice. While she is slowly reestablishing herself within her family and the small town where she grew up, she also starts to realize how much she doesn't hate Colton, and she finds herself wanting to actually... spend time with him...
Colton was a jerk to Sara in high school. Always ready with a quick jab, now that he is older he realizes that all of his making fun of her was to just mask his true feelings. Now they are older and wiser. And when they are honest about how they feel about each other, they can open themselves up for the possibility of something that could really be great...
With complicated lives, Sara and Colton have a long road before they can find the HEA they deserve...
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
I loved everything about this book! A wonderful story with great characters that will touch your heart. I can't wait to read more by this author.
This is the first Miranda Liasson book I have read, and what a sweet, pleasant surprise it was.
I am a sucker for small town stories, a frenemies to lovers story, a second chance at love story, and Then There Was You had a little bit of it all.
Sara and Colton's story is sweet, tender and a whole lotta adorable. They have been destined to come together, even if it has taken a lot of years, and oh my I couldnt' help but be their biggest cheerleader.
Family, douchey exes, so many things that could conspire against them getting their HEA, but fight for it. Even when they are just plain old fighting.
I adored the small town-y vibe to this story, where everyone knows everyone's business, everyone has everyone's back.
Wonderful characters, endearing story, I read this book in one afternoon.
I will be going back to read Ms Liasson's earlier works, and look forward to more of this new-to-me author in the future.
What a great enemies to lovers romance! Sara and Colton make the perfect pair. The conflict draws you in and has you rooting for them to find their way into each other's arms and hearts. The build-up in the story is wonderful, and you won't be disappointed in the end.
This is hands down my favorite book by Miranda Liasson. The characters are completely relatable and likable. Dr. Sara Langdon returns to her hometown a year after her fiancé cancels their wedding and leaves her for the woman who jumped out of the cake at his bachelor party. She comes home to partner with her father at his practice, but mostly to help care for her grandmother who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. Her big noisy family provide laughs, love, and support (what could be better?). Her path crosses almost immediately with Police chief Colton Walker whom she blames for her wedding going up in flames. Colton is best friends with Sara's ex, and also teased her mercilessly when they were growing up together. The two of them slowly become friends, move past some lies that kept them apart, and gradually figure out how good they are for each other. This book has soul searching emotion and humor that kept me engaged from the opening pages until the end. I look forward to reading the other stories in this series.
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The quality that appeals to me most about a Miranda Liasson read is her ability to keep it real, without losing her adorable brand of charm. Then There Was You is a journey of life lessons and at times harsh truths, tempered by heartache and humor. In life and in love things happen for a reason. It's the knowledge gained from those experiences that shape us into who we are. Sara had a front row seat to heartache, perhaps happily ever after is right around the corner.
Sara has come home to help her Nonna who has dementia and now it seems to be getting worse. Her first time in the ER and she runs into the one person she truly hates. Colton heard she was back in town but seems like maybe avoiding each other would be best. But it seems that other forces might have options. Can they live in the same town and get along or will the past be to much?
I loved this book, I loved how nothing was held backed. This is such a sweet love story. I can relate to Sara as having a family member who has dementia, that being said even if that's not the case the characters were so down to earth and I really felt like I could relate with any of them. I loved how the author had a way of getting to the heart and also had fun moments throughout. I loved Carmen she was just the constant icebreaker throughout and you truly never knew what was coming out of her mouth. This book does have some adult language/scenes but was a super fun read. I truly loved this book and I am not sure if this will become part of a series but if it does I can't wait for more.
You really can't go wrong with this amazing love story.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley, I was under no obligation to post a review and have given my honest opinion.
*thank you to Forever Romance publishing for sending me an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review*
I went into the book thinking it’d be a chore because it’s romance and I don’t read romance. But as I read, it really blossomed into more of a story, like a movie would, and less of a stilted unbelievable pining of a lover’s heart.
This book is definitely a slow burn. For me it hit a lull right around the time that Sara and Colton decide to give their relationship a try but if you can just stick it out a little longer, it’s truly a great read.
The main character, Sara, has moved back home to Angel Falls after a failed engagement. Though Sara’s been gone nearly 10 years, it seems her old play-pal Colton hasn’t left. There’s a lot of history between these two characters that almost makes the tension between them palpable.
Things work out in the end, the happy couple is happy and, it would seem that because of that huge dump of background characters, that this book is the first in a series. As much as I enjoyed this one, I don’t think I’ll continue the storyline: reading romance isn’t my typical bag, I’d much rather see a rom-com than read a script for one.
Did not finish. I tried a few times to read this but maybe it was just my mood. A shame because certain aspects appealed to me. I gave up about 50 pages in. I may try again in the future
When you pick up a book by Ms. Liasson you are assured you will be reading a story that will touch your hearts, that’s real and will also be thought provoking.
This one centers around Colton and Sarah, two souls that since HS, due to fate seemed to cross paths that were hindered by unexpected circumstances.
It might have seemed like a love hate relationship , but to me , it was more a lack of confidence, self-image and insecurities in both their parts that kept them apart during their teenage years. Hiding behind arrogance and snippy answers , when in fact the feelings ran much deeper.
This is a story about how our experiences as children will affect us as adults. Especially due to the death of a parent or due to abandonment. How sometimes children are forced to become adults, at least in their eyes. Sometimes acting out to hide their pain.
It’s also a story about family. No family is perfect , but in this story, the bond between parents, siblings and grandparents , is shown to be one that is strong. Making them strong not only as individuals, but also as a unit.
In addition, Ms Liasson’s treatment of Alzheimer was touching and very well described.
The plot was engaging and the characters, Colton, Sara, as well as the secondary characters Nonna, Cookie, Gaby etc, were complex and interesting.
Another winner by this very talented author. Can’t wait to read book 2 in this series.
I was entrusted this copy by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
4 - "...The angels are never wrong." Stars!
Then There Was You is the first book in Miranda Liasson’s new Angel Falls series. We have a bit of a second chance vibe going on with Police Chief Colton Walker and Dr. Sara Langdon’s reconnection, when she returns to town after a decade away.
Irritating her was too much fun…
You know the boy at school that pulled your hair, called you names and generally seemed to be a nuisance wherever you went, and not because he didn’t like you, but for reasons you only work out as you get older? Well Colton Walker was that to Sara growing up. Being her boyfriend's best friend didn’t really help things either, especially when she then assumes that he plays a massive part in him leaving her on the eve of their wedding for the woman that jumps out of his Stag Party cake.
"I’m sort of liking this enemies vibe… Lots of sexual tension… It’s like watching a rom-com."
You can tell from the offset that this is the beginning of a series, with a whole bunch of secondary characters introduced, and a whole lot of background being incorporated into Sara’s return to town. To be honest it was almost too much to take in, because at the 30% mark I almost called time, what with the overload of information and a very slow start to the relationship between Colton and Sara, I was erring into bored territory.
"I was wrong about you… Maybe you’re wrong about me too…"
But there was something about the pair of them when they did get page time together, that made me stick it out, and I am glad I did because when the author stepped away from dumping every other characters back story and focused on the two of them together; I. Was. Hooked!
One kiss.
One lie.
One missed opportunity.
I can understand why though because it’s easy to see that all of them are going to play pivotal parts in future books, with a few of them likely to take center stage now these two have sorted themselves out.
"How about we start again..?"
But I think the dispersal of the information may have been better off spread out through the entire book rather than all at the start, but if like me you find yourself struggling do stick with because the second half more than makes up for it.
"I don’t care about the past anymore… Not our past or your past… it’s time to take a new course… For both of us."
No news on when the next book is due, but I hope its sooner rather than later. This is an author that I have only recently discovered, but I am liking her writing a little more with each book I read.
"Life is just too short to hate cake."
A good enough premise, which was what caught my eye.
However, in the end I found it to be lacking.
The writing felt a little forced and the story, well, it wasn't as good as the summary portrayed it to be.
Overall execution was a 2 star rating for me, because I was able to get through it, so it had to be just okay.
Okay was not what I wanted. I barely managed to finish it and that was because I took breaks. If a book really grabs me then I barely take breaks.
