The Heavenly Minded Mom by Katie Bennett is a 90 day devotional. Each devotion is very short but meant to refocus a mother's attention from the daily struggles of motherhood to what really matters in the long run. Designed specifically for mothers, this book is a wonderful resource that can be picked up for just a short time or longer if used in conjunction with the suggested Scripture readings. I loved this book and think that any mother would love it as well. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

A great devotional for a mom who wants to make sure she keeps her focus on Jesus.

Each devotion is short and is the perfect length for a tired mom. While each day's devotion is short, it gives much more than the few paragraphs. Katie encourages you to use the devotional book as a jumping-off point for time in God's Word and not a replacement for it. She knows that it's most important to dig into God's Word, but creates a great structure and guide that will speak to moms.

Chapter such as "The Idol of Results", "The Idol of Seeking Possessions", "The Idol of an Easy Life" remind us that our hearts and lives should be focused on living in Him. We can impact our children's lives as we live out our purpose and "Heavenly Minded Mom" is a great resource to help moms stay focused on God and His Word.

I received a review copy, but was under no obligation to leave a positive review.

This book spoke directly to my heart as a Christian mom. It's easy to get caught up in the routines of day to day life while missing the big picture of how these days matter for eternity. The devotions are quick to read (a big plus with toddlers to care for), and include both Bible verses as well as practical applications from the author's life. I read through this book in a few days because I couldn't wait to see what was next. It brought me back to center to focus on what is most important right now-mothering my children. This is definitely one I'll read again and again. If you're a mom, you need this book!

Straight to the heart with no filler! This book is amazing! People in general are so stressed these days, but moms have specific worries and this book will shine on a light on your darkness and expose it for what it really is. I will be recommending this book to every mom I know. Thank you so much for the opportunity (gift, really) to read this amazing content.

Heavenly Minded Mom (Bennett, Kate, Abingdon Press, 2018) is a devotional directed to moms of all ages with children of all ages. While it’s great to have a devotion book written to a specific era and situation in your life, I have truly enjoyed these daily readings that would be helpful for any mother.

From wealth and ease to fun and friends, so many of the things we hope for, even idolize, for our children do not end when they complete their teen years or establish their own homes. Mothers want more and more for their children so long as both are living. Yet Mrs. Bennett reveals to us that we are setting up these lofty dreams as idols and once exposed she urges us to tear them down and replace them with the light and the truth of God’s word.

Each day a scripture reading is given (from the New International Version) then 3 or 4 paragraphs speaking to a mother’s heart. This is followed by additional scripture references in a section entitled “Embracing God’s Word” then a couple of questions to guide your journaling for the day.
Abingdon Press, the publisher of Heavenly Minded Mom supplied a copy of this book for me to review. They sent an electronic copy and there are several things I did not enjoy in that format. There is no Table of Contents so there was no way to look at the whole book and peruse the subjects that would be covered. Also, that always makes it difficult for me if I lose my place in the digital book or if there was a particular subject I want to re-visit. Also, should you lose your place, there are no dates on the individual entries, so you don’t have that means of finding your place. If I were going to buy this for a friend I would no doubt choose the paper version.

Overall, I can recommend Heavenly Minded Mom.

I cannot say enough about this devotional! I have tried several in the past and just gave up on them because they were nothing more than fluffy feel-good stories. Nothing stuck with me afterwards, nothing helped me grow closer to Christ.

Then along came Katie's book, Heavenly Minded Mom. Wow! What a thought-provoking, stick with you, always pointing back to Christ devotional! This book makes you deal with your sneaky idols, things that are stealing your focus from eternity. Each daily devotion is short, but there's work for you to do afterwards, so you can't just forget about it as you would a typical devotion.

I highly recommend this book! You become refocused on Christ and on eternal things that matter.

Every Christian Mother should read this book.

Heavenly Minded Mom tackles issues that undermine our relationship with God and drains us as parents and provides practical solutions.

Bought the hard copy, reading it again!

This devotional is great for getting into the word every day, great life reminders and lessons. But what I love most is the tie in to daily journaling too. This is a book I will go back to over and over again.

As I'm finishing up this devotion and reading at a faster pace than what it is meant to be read; I am refreshed. A simple yet tough concept for so many of us mothers.... I was blessed to receive an advanced copy of this to review and I will delve further into it as I now have time to reread the three parts that are broken up into clear segments for focused attention.

The author does a great job of tying in meaningful scripture and using specific verses for each day.

I have recommended this book to many close mom friends and will continue to sing it's praises

Sometimes God takes our preconceived notions and ideas about life, and starts to turn them slowly. It may not be all at once, but through different avenues, He begins to shift our views to something different.

Recently, God has been showing me that life isn't about the small, petty things that I hold so dear, but it is the eternal things that are most important. After all, if I have the most beautiful house, the nicest car, and the best of everything, what does it matter in eternity?

And, why do I always want more? When I get the one thing I thought would satisfy me, a craving for something new comes along. This is not how God intended us to live.

King Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, said this, "Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity." Everything we do or participate in here on earth will one day be gone. Only the things we do for God have eternal value.

Katie Bennett is a blogger at Embracing a Simpler Life. Her new book, Heavenly Minded Mom, deals with this subject. When I first saw it, I was intrigued by the title. As a Christian it is my goal (or should be my goal) to live with Heaven in mind. But, as I read, I realized that so much of what I do in my life, really has no eternal value. The things I think are important, the things I struggle over and pray for, are not the most important things, they are temporary, and they cannot bring satisfaction.

I'll admit that as I read this book, I chaffed at first. Give up the "idol" of my family? My dreams for the future? My financial security? My possessions? My hope for an easy life? Fun times with my family and friends? No, thank you!

But then I realized, NONE OF IT MATTERS. If I die tonight, none of those things matter one bit in eternity. One hundred years from now, it's doubtful if anyone will even remember my name, much less how much money I had, or what my dreams in life were. The only things that matter in eternity are the things I did for God, and the ways that I helped to build His kingdom.

An idol is anything that I allow to be more important in my life that God. Any time that I seek my own good, I am setting my affection on earthly things, and not those above. When I pursue only worldly things, my life is shallow and meaningless.

This is a hard pill to swallow. I want to believe that I am a good Christian. I want to believe that I put God first in all things. But, as I read Heavenly Minded Mom, I began to see all the things in my life that I allow to take precedence over Him.

As I read, I realized that God may not ask me to give up my material possessions. He isn't asking me not to have nice things, not to spend time with my family, not to pursue dreams for the future. He is only asking that I always seek Him first--that I am willing to give up whatever He asks.

Many times we cling to a "prosperity gospel" that tells us we will always have an easy life. That God will never ask us to do hard things. We want to believe that our lives will always flow smoothly, we won't struggle with sickness, death, or even financial problems. But, that is exactly the opposite of what He said.

Some of Jesus' last words before He died on the cross were these: In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. He plainly told us that sometimes life would get hard, but that He will be with us on our journey.

There came a point as I was reading Heavenly Minded Mom when I started to feel really down. I realized that everything I've ever thought was important in life, really isn't. It's all vanity--nothing. But, that's exactly where God wants me to be! When I remove all the idols from my life, when I rid myself of all the things that will one day burn up, then, and only then, can I find God's true purpose for my life.

I'll admit to you, Heavenly Minded Mom is sometimes a tough read...but it's tough because it's true. I challenge you to keep reading! Just when you come to the place where you think your life is meaningless, and all of your pursuits are vain, Katie shows you how God pours grace, mercy and love in our lives. His goal is to have communication with us. His desire is for us to be His friends!

I found so much strength in those final chapters. They encouraged me that my life, if given totally to God, is not vain. It has purpose, it has meaning. He can use me for great things (even if they don't seem great to me) if I'll surrender all to Him.

Heavenly Minded Mom is not for the faint of heart. If you are not willing to truly look at your life, and see it for what it is, it's not for you. But, if you want a deeper connection with God, if you want to find a life that has eternal value, this will help you find it.

I received this as an advance copy from netgalley.co.uk

This is an excellent devotional for young Mums. Whilst not replacing the need for more detailed study of particular passages it is a devotional focussed on scripture with application to all areas of mothering. it also encourages the reader to delve deeper into scripture with further passages for study and journaling questions.
I feel it would make an excellent gift for a new mum or baby shower present as it would be a good book to read daily in those early newborn days when mothers need to be in the word but the thought of in depth Bible study seems overwhelming- this is an accessible book with depth.

This is a fine Christian devotional for mothers, but it does not stand out from the many others on the market. Each chapter starts with a Bible verse then has a short reflection, which often includes stories from the author's life. Each chapter ends with further Bible verses to read and questions to journal about. The author overuses italics for emphasis.
