Sandra Markle's nonfiction books are always so interesting because they show aspects of animals that so many of us don't think about. This newest one looks at weird migration of snowy owls as far south as Florida!

Snowy owls are usually Arctic animals, but sometimes they show up outside their normal range and every once in a while there is an irruption. This book covers a recent irruption of snowy owls, and how scientists used this their unusual access to the birds to find out more about snowy owl habits. With beautiful photos this book is sure to grab the attention of young owl enthusiasts.

This is a very interesting story about an irruption of snowy owls in the 2013-2014 season. The text is compelling and fast moving with short pieces on each page. The photography is amazing-giving details about the owls I never thought possible, including how to tell the difference between a male and a female snowy. I'm so excited to get this one in my library!

Sandra Markle does an amazing job with her Animal books, whether it is an endangered species, or tracking animals such as the Snowy Owl. I have seen Snowy Owls at the airport near my home so this book helped explain why they have been here in the last few years and never before.

In 2013 there was a Snowy Owl Iruption and they ended up traveling much further south than before. Scientists were able to band some of them and later put GPS trackers on them to see what their migration paths were. There are lovely illustrations accompanying the text explaining this phenomena and giving us some general information about the Snowy Owl. My 4 year old grandson and I went through the book looking at the illustrations and describing them. He enjoyed learning about the own even though the rest of the book was beyond him. A great book for school libraries especially when studying animals, their migration, adaptations and the impact of the environment on their lives.

This is another fabulous book from Sandra Markel. The text is well written and engaging. The amazing photographs are close-up and very interesting. As readers follow the true story of how scientists tracked snowy owls to learn more about their migrations, the reader becomes hooked on the story and in the process of reading, learns more about how scientists work. I also appreciate the author's note at the.end of the book that gives additional information, but most of all gives readers a sense of Markel's excitement tracking down this story. Wonderful book!
