When Kit relocates to Colorado she'll discover that one family's secrets threaten to destroy a town. Through a comitment to honor and protect they will investigate the fires until the truth is discovered.

I enjoyed reading about Wes and Kit, the friendship that develops, the pride in their work and the comittment to serve and protect.

This slow burn, small town romantic suspense delivers all the feels. Snowy mountain towns, wide open spaces and fresh air. Get ready for a on-the-edge-of-your seat adventure.

Amazing storyline! Loved Kit and Wes and their coming-together! Wes was adorably nerdy and hot; Kit was pretty badass as a cop. I couldn’t stand how the others cops treated her and ignored her insights. The guy on the cover was nothing at all how Wes was described.

This book was so entertaining. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and was involved until the end. The characters were complex and interesting. I found the story to be well paced and engrossing throughout the whole book. I was invested in the couple throughout the book and felt all the emotions through both the highs and lows of the story. The side characters were such an integral part of this story as well. This is the love story i needed to read at this time. If you want an entertaining and well written book this is it for you

Through The Fire is overflowing with intrigue, sexual tension, and lots of twists and turns. Katie Ruggle knows how to combine thrills, mystery, and the kind of passion that shows action can mean more than explosions and high speed chases. Her newest addition to the Rocky Mountain K9 Unit series has everything I know and love about romance and suspense: a great love story, an intriguing plot, and an incredible ass kicking heroine I loved rooting for.

Kit Jernigan was eager to start her new job with Monroe, Colorado PD. She’d left a bad situation in her previous job in the city. From what she’d seen of Monroe in the past, it would be a picture perfect town for a new job with less stress. She was nervous about starting over and working to fit in with new people and new surroundings. But as she arrived in Monroe, those things didn’t seem to matter so much anymore. “Her new town was a devastated wreck, and a possible murder-slash-arson had happened within the first hour of her first day. She was beginning to wonder if she’d survive this new job.” There were some strange things happening in Monroe and Kit is certain she knows the woman responsible. The only problem is no one else seems to agree. No one except Wes March, the local fire spotter. Kit and Wes are determined to find the truth. And to do so, Kit needs to get her new partners to trust her. The lives of everyone in Monroe could depend on it.

I loved every pulse pounding moment of Wes and Kit’s story. Kit, though nervous about her new start, was tough. She felt like she was on her own at times, but she didn’t back down. She had a theory about who was behind the arson but she didn’t try to make the evidence fit that theory. She looked for the facts to lead to her answers. Wes was more than he seemed at first. As fire lookout for the forest service, he’d lived pretty much like a hermit in the tower for the last 7 years. His seldom appearances in town and his little idiosyncrasies made the town view him as somewhat of an oddball. He was pretty nerdy, but he was also brilliant. I loved the slow build of his and Kit’s relationship. The awkward flirting, the initial touches, and the handholding. Their romance was sweet but there was definitely sparking tension between them. Kit was just what Wes needed. She listened to him and saw past his idiosyncrasies. Most people made him feel tense but Kit relaxed him. Kit liked his honest, straightforward manner and how easy he was to talk to. Especially since she felt like everyone else in Monroe was keeping things from her. It was fun to watch that new romance blossom. They were a charmingly sweet couple. And when all hell breaks loose in Monroe, the tough cop and the local nerd made a pretty badass team.
I was thrilled to see characters from previous books again. Hugh has always been my favorite and he didn’t disappoint in this one. We learn a lot more about the background story of Jules and her family too. And Mateo Espina finally makes an appearance. I hope there’s a book for him. His story is absolutely tragic and I want to see him find happiness.
Having read this entire series, I can’t imagine reading this book as a stand-alone. There’s just so much history that leads to this point. Had I not known what Otto, Hugh, and Theo had previously experienced on the force, I wouldn’t have understood their apprehension in sharing info with Kit. Everyone’s story is connected and you won’t get the twists and turns if you haven’t read the series. Believe me, once you read the first one, you’ll be hooked. This series sets your pulse racing and will keep you glued to your seat till the very end.

Kit Jernigan is ta female officer in the K-9 unit. She’s having a hard time fitting in with her co-workers. They are close-knit and have a difficult time letting anyone new into the fold. When fires begin raging through Monroe, her co-workers are so rigid they don’t listen to Kit explain who the firebug is or how to stop her. Local fire spotter Wesley March knows Kit is correct and wants to help her prove it to her co-workers. As Wesley and Kit become closer, someone inside the K-9 unit wants revenge, regardless who gets burned.

Through the Fire is another anxiety-filled story in this series. I enjoyed the content, the pacing, characters, and the continued world building. There is wonderful character development. The dynamics between Kit and Wesley are wonderful. The world-building also allows for clear visualization of the story as I read along.

This novel in the Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit series nicely wraps up the storyline in Book 1, Run to Ground, concerning Jules and her sisters. We get to visit with the characters we’ve grown to love throughout the series and see additional character development. Kip’s training sessions with Sam and his dog are endearing.

I enjoyed this action and emotion-filled novel by Katie Ruggle.

I enjoyed this installment; it was fun, sweet and suspenseful. The tying up of the story surrounding Jules was a long time coming, and I thought it was well done.

Through the Fire, the fourth and last book in the Rocky Mountain K9 Unit series. It picks up from the explosive ending in book three.

This installment differs from the previous books. In this story the heroine is not looking to hiding her identity. She is a police officer. The one thing she shares with the other heroines is that of running from her past. During her relocation to Monroe she meets an awkwardly social, Wesley Marshall.

Wes is a math/computer genius and local fire spotter. Hermit by choice be lives in the middle of now where. He has no friends and finds comfort in his gadgets. As a result, he has difficulty interacting on a social level.

Oh my, I loved their first encounter, which was awkward but sweet. It had me smiling from ear to ear.

Kit’s meeting with her coworkers did not go so well. They kept her at a distance and refused to listen when she disclosed her suspicions regarding their women’ newest roommate. I understood why they reacted the way they did, but Kit being the newcomer was clueless.

I enjoyed the romance. Wes is so adorable. His interaction with Kit was so full of sweetness and it made me smile throughout it all. I loved how Wes slowly came out of his shell. One highlight for me was when he called his sister to get romantic advise. Awww.

The villain had everyone fooled, well except for Kit and Sam. Kit knew she was up to no good if only she could convince the others. The twist at the end shocked me to the core. That turn of events never once entered my mind, but it fit the story. My heart went out to those who were affected by the event.

I enjoyed this installment; it was fun, sweet and suspenseful. The tying up of the story surrounding Jules was a long time coming, and I thought it was well done.

Conclusion/Recommendation
Another hit from Ruggle. Fans of romantic suspense would enjoy this series. I recommend that you read the previous books before venturing to this one.

Kit moved to a new town ready start over after leaving Wisconsin behind. She never expected the town she interviewed at would be hit with such devastation. The first day on the job she hits the ground running and tries to find an arsonist. Crimes are spreading like wildfire and she has a feeling she knows who is comittting the crimes. Finding Wes was like a dream. His analytical mind complimented hers as they worked together to try and save their town from another crime being committed.

Kit is an 8 year veteran K9 officer, transferring to Monroe. When she arrives, she discovers the town has basically been demolished since she interviewed. Her new partners greet her with more skepticism than the stranger who shows up right after a house fire with a charred body in it.

We know right from the beginning that “Elena” is the bad guy. Only Kit seems to realize something is off with her. The 3 guys/officers from the prior books, who previously were extremely untrusting, seem to be taken in by Elena. Huh?! I struggled with their obtuseness. They were pathetic excuses for police officers.

Wes is an introverted, outdoorsy, tech genius, park ranger. He prefers solitude to interacting with people, struggling with social situations. He was just awkward. Loved his gadgets and inventions. I just never got the Wes/Kit connection.

This book feels more like an afterthought than the conclusion to the series. Granted, after the over the top last book, this one had big shoes to fill. It was woefully unable to. The suspense dragged for most of the book and Elena’s character was more annoying than interesting.

The new character is a half Asian woman canine officer. Why is a man gracing the cover with a dog?

Courtney is a child abuser and pedophile yet she gets to walk away after signing custody over to Jules? WTH?!

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC provided by NetGalley and the publisher.

This was a super addition to the series and cannot believe this is the last one but what another enjoyable well-written book it was. This was Kit and Wes story and it was a fast paced really good read in this book Kit is the K9 officer which I was not expecting from the cover but it did make a nice change. If you have enjoyed the previous books you won't want to miss this one.

I enjoyed this one so much, it kept me glued to my kindle. Kit's spider senses are on alert, something is not right in this town. She has her eyes on this woman, is she all that she seems?
I loved Wes, what a great couple they made along with the pooch.
There were some great twists and turns in this book and I didn't see that coming.
What's with the book cover though, the heroine is the main character with her K9?
An entertaing read though I'd advise to read the previous books for an insight into the characters and town.

After the explosive third novel in the Rocky Mountain K9 Unit series, Survive the Night, I knew that it would be a tough act to follow, and I'm sad to say that Through the Fire proved me right--it just didn't live up to suspense and excitement of the last novel, and I can only give it a 2.5-star rating.

This novel does start out like gangbusters and introduces the villain, Alex/Elena in the prologue, as she commits murder and sets the house afire. Of course, we don't know who the victim is yet, but if you've been following this series, the common threads binding these novels together are the K-9 unit, arson and murder.

It's in the next chapter we meet the heroine, Kit Jernigan, and her K-9 companion, Justice, as she's running late for the first day of her new job with the Rocky Mountain K-9 unit in tiny Monroe, Colorado, the setting for this series. Trying to maneuver her car and trailer into her driveway, we also meet Wes, a large, gorgeous hunk of a bearded mountain man who is as attracted to Kit as she is to him, and he helps direct Kit to get the car and trailer where she wants them, and then she's off to meet her fellow police officers at her new job.

When she eventually shows up at the sheriff's office, she finds that it's a blasted out shell, as is what was once the local diner, and she drives around town and finally notices that there are some squad cars parked at what appears to be a VFW post, and it's inside that she meets her new co-workers, discovers that she's the only female on the force, and realizes that this building is now referred to as the "viner."

If you've been following this series, you already know these police officers--Otto, Hugh and Theo, and the women they've paired up with in the previous novels--all of whom live in the same run-down house with their children and siblings, and all of whom ended up in Monroe because they were on the run for their lives, and brought out the protective instincts of their men, including the latest arrival, Elena, who shows up just after the most recent arson/murder. Yet these same men are not all that welcoming toward or trusting of Kit, which certainly isn't what she was hoping for as it was her honesty, ethics and loyalty to the job that cost Kit her last job. In the previous novels these guys were suspicious of everyone who might be a threat to their women, but when Kit meets Elena, senses that something just isn't right about her, and when she mentions her suspicions, the guys basically ignore her as if she isn't a trained police officer. It just felt wrong to this reader.

From the opening chapters to the rest of this novel, the story plodded along slowly, the only bright spots being Kit's growing relationship with Wes, who we learn is the forest fire ranger, a definite computer/electronics nerd, and who seems to suffer from some sort of social anxiety disorder, but who's really sweet on and with Kit. Add to that another familiar character, Sam, the abused teenager whose sister, Jules, spirited him and his siblings away from their dreadful stepmother. Sam bonds with Kit's dog, Justice, and Kit agrees to help him train a rescue dog, Fifi, as a tracker. Those scenes were wonderful and charming and it was heartwarming to see Sam finally begin to come out of his shell.

To this reader, it seemed as though Kit was the only police officer who acted like one. Theo, Hugh and Otto seemed so besotted with their woman that Kit appeared to be the only one actively trying to solve the most recent arson/murder and find the person responsible for it. Rather than listening to or believing in Kit's instincts as a trained police officer, they did nothing other than ignore her and her suspicions. These men were never around to back her up, and having read the previous novels in this series, it seemed totally out of character for all of hem. Where were the heroes from the previous books? They certainly weren't there for Kit, and this was a huge disconnect for this reader. The only time these men acted as police officers was when Courtney shows up. Se's the evil stepmother of Jules, Sam, Dee, Ty and Tio, and she demands that Jules be arrested for kidnapping them, and the rest of the children returned to her care. Her sudden appearance had little to do with the rest of the plot, except that it did point out where the mens' priorities were, and they certainly weren't with Kit. That situation was resolved in short order, in fact, I wondered why it needed to be included in this novel to begin with, other than tying up one loose end that didn't make it into the earlier novels.

Then there's the villain, Alex/Elena, and while she's hiding in plain sight, the other officers accept her presence at the home of their love interests, and they don't even bother checking out why she's there, who's after her, why they're after her, or anything else about her. They simply accept her as a victim, tell Kit to do the same thing, and totally ignore Kit's and Sam's suspicions.

It's not until the end of the novel that the action picks up and we get to understand Alex/Elena's motives. Yet, when we finally do learn what her motives are, they certainly stretched my willing suspension of disbelief to the breaking point. I'd go into greater detail but won't because I don't do spoilers, but if you find the ending as ridiculous and unbelievable as I did, you won't be alone.

While I enjoyed the first three novels in this series, this final book was a let-down, and not at all indicative of Katie Ruggle's talents as a storyteller. I'll consider this as an anomaly, and hope that she regains her standing as an excellent novelist with her next book.

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.

Katie is one of my favorite authors and this ragtag bunch of characters in this series keeps growing on me. When a new police office and a new friend come to town at the same time it threatens to upset the very precarious balance of the group of people who have been able to call Monroe home. Who do they trust in this situation when everything hangs in the balance? You'll have to read it to find out. I enjoyed it. I gave it four stars instead of five because it took me too long to get into the story this time.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Kit is the new K9 officer in Monroe. She has a memorable meeting with the local fire service lookout Wes, when he has to help her park her trailer, using maths skills that left me dizzy!

Wes is not your average, cookie cutter hero. He is tall, muscly but reeks of nerdydom. He is a bit of a mad inventor and is waaaaaaay beyond scary smart. He is socially awkward and I loved the way he turned to his sister for help in deciphering what to do with his feelings for Kit!

Drawn together by their joint feelings of being outsides for whatever reasons, Kit and Wes are soon thrust into danger. Bad things seem to happen to those sent through Mr Espinas underground railroad and the newest, Elena, just seems to give off weird vibes that Kit can't ignore.

There are great scenes with Jules and her brothers and sisters. Sam is just a wee hero and I love him to bits. I love learning the why's to everything that has happened to the girls and why for such a small town Monroe has a homicide/accident rate to envy any major town!

An epilogue to wrap up the story lines of the other couples and that of Wes and Kit would have been nice as sometimes I felt they were sidelined as the other storylines were concluded.

Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) provided by the Author and Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an fair and honest review.

I started Through the Fire and got to chapter five and decided that it wasn't such a good idea starting a series at book #4. Stupid me, you would think that I had learned my lesson about doing that by now. So, I'm going to do this right and read the other three books starting with Run to Ground. It is strongly recommended that you read the first three books as this series is tightly bound both character and time wise. Katie Ruggle really hits her stride with this book, it is a taunt suspense and a really sweet love story.

Kit Jernigan arrives in Monroe, CO to start a new job as a K-9 officer. She is looking for a fresh start and instead finds a town has been devastated by a series of bombings. Everyone is suspicious of any newcomers and on her first day there is a fire and a murdered body is found. Kit and her dog, Justice, find a trail that leads to Jules house. Jules is K-9 cop Theo's girlfriend. They find "Elena Dahl" there. She is a "friend" of Jules and Jules' home is a place for women sent by the mysterious Mr. Espania. Trust is something that is hard to earn sometimes, but when someone is bent on undermining that trust, it can be impossible.

Wesley March, local fire spotter and crazy smart recluse meets Kit on her first day in Monroe and is attracted to her. Wes is socially awkward, but Kit only sees an incredibly handsome and smart guy. He likes Kit and is drawn into the investigation knowing that Kit is right in her assessment of "Elena". He just has to help her prove it and not get burned in the process.

Mary – ☆☆☆☆
Kit Jernigan and her K9, Justice, are starting a new job in Monroe, Colorado, but when they reach the town, she can't believe her eyes. It looks like a blown-up movie set; the town looks deserted. She notices some people at the VFW and when she goes inside, she sees a few fellow officers. But the offices are kinda stand-offish. They don't really know her and after what happened with their last lieutenant, who can blame them.

Wes March is the local fire spotter, when he sees smoke, he calls it in. But they can't save the house. Wes is interested in getting to know more about Kit. He even calls his sister about dating and advice about girls.

While Kit is keeping an eye on Elena, the latest of Jules "friends," everyone else is trusting her. But Kit has a gut feeling that Elena is not telling all of the truth.

Can Kit get the evidence she needs to make everyone see that Elena is not who she seems? Will Wes ask her out on a date? Will the other officers give Kit and Justice a chance?

I love this series and I think Kit, Wes, and Justice might be my favorites so far. While this series gets better with each book, I wonder how much more the town can take? If you like a story that is a great romantic suspense, then this series is for you. So sit back and enjoy, I hope you love it too.

FTC : I received this book from NetGalley for a fair and honest review.

Book Tags : #K9-character #Cop #heroine-to-adore #nerd-hero #kids-in-story #dog #romantic-suspense #violence #arson #part-of-a-series

Content Warnings : Violence, Child-abuse, death, arson.

Heat Level – 4/5. Lots of sex scenes on page.

Author-Style – Third person, past tense POV with dreamy heroes and strong heroines. I do enjoy her author voice.

Quick Scores –

Plot – 3/5. This is the finale of the Rocky Mountain Series. There were bits I loved, bits I needed to read (that I didn't really like) and a whole host of Alpha-males being asshats and losing my respect. Honestly, I think this book ruined the others for me because I'm not sure I can read Theo's again without remembering he is literally a prize arse in this book.

So, what happens? Well, I was very excited that the K9 cop that we get to meet in this book is female. She is strong, kick-ass and her dog is adorable. She is also treated horribly by almost everyone else in this book (under the pretence of keeping "the secret") apart from the local fire spotter Wes, her leading man. Wes is a nerdy, sexy loner who is absolutely adorable with Kit. I loved that he never questioned her, always believed her and was just lovely.

Kit arrives in town as an arsonist strikes. She seems to be the only one that is concerned and, in spite of the indifference and apparent ineptitude of her fellow cops, she starts to investigate a series of crimes that lead her deep into the secrets of the towns residents. The only person who seems to believe her in the towns fire spotter, Wes. Together, they hope to stop the arsonist before they hurt anybody else.

Do not read this book without the rest of series - it is not a standalone.

Heroine –5/5. Kit is a strong heroine who is not made to feel welcome by her fellow officers. At all. She could have let it defeat her but instead she pushes through and starts to build a career and a life in spite of their jack-off ways. I adored her spirit and her strength of character.

Hero – 5/5. Wes is an amazing hero. Socially awkward, he struggles to build the relationship with Kit but he tries so hard. He is a generous, gentle hero who made me smile from start to finish - I loved all of his interactions with the rest of the characters in the book (wasn't such a fan of the way that they treated him).

Romance – 5/5. Honestly, it was a wonderful love story.

Cover – The cover has feck all to do with the story. The K9 officer is female and the hero is not in the slightest military/police like ... it does not sum up the story in any way and actually is confusing.

Re-Read? – Yes. But only as a skim read focusing on the romance.

Favourite Part – I think my favourite parts were the interactions between Kit and Wes. There was so much gentle humour in this slow burn romance that I read most of it with a smile on my face. I wanted them to succeed - their initial meeting was my favourite part in the whole book.

What didn’t work for me? – There are two major parts that didn't work for me. The first is the actions of the other characters within the book. I loved Theo, Otto and Hugh as the heroes in their own books but they were arseholes in this book. They isolated Kit and were incredibly unhelpful throughout. I thought less of them from this book which is a bloody shame. I also hated the bad-guy and their motivation. It was all going so well until the big reveal and then it jut fell flat for me.

An absolutely well written romance story with many twists and turns that really grab your attention from the beginning. Honestly, I can’t think of a thing I didn’t like and love about this book. Katie Ruggle continues to write exciting and exciting books, this is no exception! Another new favourite of mine by this author and on my list of books I love and will re-read again in the future.

This installation of Rocky Mountain K9 deviates from the previous formats quite a bit. Kit isn't on the run, and her love interest isn't on the police force, he's a recluse fire spotter. It threw me a bit, but was still a good read.
Kit is a K9 officer who left her previous department after outing a crooked partner. She moves to Monroe with her bloodhound partner in hopes of a fresh start. Wesley is a genius recluse fire spotter on the mountain. They meet as Wes helps her park her trailer with mathematical perfection and Kit is drawn to him.
Both are quickly drawn into the dangerous situations boiling around Monroe when Elena, another "friend," shows up, and she isn't what she seems. She has the whole victim act down pat, but something rings alarm bells for Kit.
