I've had my ups and downs with this author's different series, but on the whole it's been a good experience overall. After the ending of the last book, I was hoping for a lot from this book and I wasn't disappointed!

I wasn't sure who could be left to pair off, so bringing in two new characters was a good move to me. I really liked Kit and Justice, but really wanted a lot more of their background than what I got. I also wanted more background on Wes, but I was able to easily connect with him and saw a lot of my son in him as well. He really made the book for me! I absolutely loved the fact that this book tied up several loose ends in the series! It provided that final bit of closure and really made the series shine overall for me. There were a couple of nagging questions at the end of everything, but on the whole I quite enjoyed it!

Kit has moved up to Monroe, Colorado to get away from a bad situation in her previous job as an officer with K9 companion. But Kit doesn’t realize the drama that’s gone on in Monroe since she’s applied for and accepted her position. It’s obvious when she first starts that it’ll be a while before her fellow officers accept and trust her, and this is a bit discouraging to Kit. They all seem to love her bloodhound Justice, though. Then there’s Elena, also a new arrival who sets off all kinds of alarms. Her damsel-in-distress act doesn’t fool Kit one bit, but just about everyone else including her fellow officers seems to buy her act. Despite some of these obstacles Kit is determined to work hard and gain trust. Plus, there’s Wes a gorgeous, but awkward forest ranger, as she’s arrived in to town doesn’t hurt.

Really liked Kit and Wes. The way she just got Wes and found him to be so utterly attractive even with his awkward social interactions. Wes was immediately attracted to Kit and was over the moon that she didn’t seem repelled by his lack of social skills. She seemed to understand and accommodate the fact he got overwhelmed in a group. AND (!) he didn’t fall prey to Elena’s helpless girl act was a huge positive in my book!

Loved the relationship Kit had with her adorable bloodhound K9 tracker partner, Justice, and that she was willing to help Sam with his training of Fifi, another bloodhound.

I’ve really enjoyed Katie Ruggle’s romantic suspense stories, and her Rocky Mountain K9 Unit has been filled with thrills and danger! I had fun with Through the Fire, but I wasn’t pleased that Kit’s concerns over Elena were ignored or brushed aside. It felt unbelievable in a few instances. Didn’t like that it took so long for the guys to believe Kit after enough red flags pointed Elena’s direction. Just the fact that Sam didn’t like her should’ve registered with Jules and the gang! Still, the fact that I loved the awkward and sweet romance between Kit and Wes made up for the disappointment.

Kit Jernigan feels like she will never fit in with her new tight-knit K9 unit because they have been through too much together. But when a killer strikes she fights to convince her fellow officers to trust her long enough to catch the woman she knows is responsible.

She knows she can't do it on her own. She asks local fire spotter Wesley March to partner up with her..

Wes knows in his heart that Kit is right, and he's willing to leave his lonely tower to help her prove it. But the more time they spend together, the hotter the fire smolders…and the more danger they're in. A member of the K9 unit's inner circle is determined to have her revenge—no matter who gets burned in the process.

I loved this book. Kit waded into a mess of epic proportions while trying to fit into a new town. It was trial by fire and she reacted in such a believable way that the reader just went with it. Despite my knowing all there is to know about the town and Jule’s home, the author kept Kit in the dark and let me groan as she discovered things bit-by-bit. Then there was Wes….loveable, awkward, hunk of a man…Wes. He wasn’t the typical hero, but I fell in love with him all the same. Their romance moved sweet and slow, and worth the wait. I also enjoyed how we knew who the antagonist was right away, catching a glimpse into their actions, but the reason for it all was a mystery until the end. Nice twist!

I absolutely loved Kit's story while she is trying to find fit in and her place when coming to a new K9 Unit in another town. A small one at that, which makes her journey to fit in a struggle. Kit's challenges take on many aspects while trying to get others in the sheriff's office to trust her and take her concerns about a resident as a real threat. When she meets Wes, the story takes on a life of it own, with a blossoming romance, suspense, and drama, while finding and stopping a killer in their small town. "Through The Fire" brings the last book in the 'Rocky Mountain K9 Unit' to a wonderful and satisfying HEA. Each book can be read as a standalone. I would like to thank NetGalley and Sourcebooks for gifting me "Through The Fire". My opinion is always my own. This is mine. 4.5 Stars!

I adore Wes and Kit. I loved their romance and I enjoyed reading their story. I loved the way the author wrote Kit. She is a police officer who is very strong and independent but still accepted help from her fellow police officers and wanted to fit in with them. Wes quickly became one of my favorite characters in the whole series and I enjoyed getting to know him. One of the things I love about Katie Ruggle is that she isn’t afraid to write characters who aren’t outgoing or “normal” like everyone else. It’s something I can relate to and it’s nice to read characters that are a little different from the rest. I’m sad this series is coming to an end but I look forward to reading future books by this author.

Through the Fire, written by Katie Ruggle, is the fourth book in the Rocky Mountain K9 Unit series. Each book in the series can be read as a stand-alone novel, however, I highly recommend reading the entire series.

Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit Series:
Run to Ground (Book 1)
On the Chase (Book 2)
Survive the Night (Book 3)
Through the Fire (Book 4)

Kit Jernigan has just transferred with Justice (her canine partner) to the quiet mountain town of Monroe. She started the job with two strikes against her....she is an outsider, and she reported her previous partner for illegal activities. She wants to desperately earn the trust of her team, especially since she knows the identity of the woman responsible for setting the mysterious fires in Monroe. Kit needs help, and with her team against her, she needs someone on her side. She enlists the help of the local fire spotter, Wesley March.

Wesley March works for the Forest Service, and spends his time in the tower watching for fires. He is completely fine with being alone, and actually prefers it that way. However, then he meets Kit, and everything changes. Kit recruits Wesley to help her catch the woman responsible for the fires. The closer they get to uncovering the truth, the more dangerous it becomes for Wesley and Kit. Will they catch the killer before it is too late?

The story that unfolds is described in such vivid detail that you can actually visualize the story as you read it. Katie Ruggle is an amazing storyteller, and brilliantly weaves together a suspenseful story line with complex and well-written characters. This story will capture your attention from the very beginning until the very end. Kit is a strong and loyal character, and I actually admired her determination to fit in, despite how the rest of the team treated her initially. Wesley is a quirky, but lovable character, and the only one to truly have Kit's back in the beginning. I especially loved the way in which Kit was able to get Wesley to open up to her.

Overall, this is a wonderfully written book that has a bit of everything in it...from suspense and mystery to love and friendship. I strongly recommend this book, as well as the previous books in the series.

I would like to thank Sourcebooks Casablanca and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read and review this book. My views are my own, and are in no way influenced by anyone else.

Kit Jernigan is the newbie to the Monroe K-9 unit. The town has been hit with one disaster after another, and now it appears there’s a killer on the loose. Kit and her blood hound Justice can’t seem to convince her partners who she believes is a suspect. Suspense, big drooly dogs, a very hot Forest Service officer, and a sweet romance.

Good story but I felt a little lost , not having read the previous 3 books in the series. There was so much backstory and history with the characters that it was hard to stay interested! That’s on me , not the author. Good storyline and characters, suspenseful , and K 9 ‘s. ... great combination. Think I’ll try the other 3 to clear up my confusion!

Over the past two years, Katie Ruggle has become one of my favorite romantic suspense authors. In Through the Fire, she brings readers another intense, suspenseful, and emotional story set high in the Rockies and once again, she had me glued to the pages from beginning to end. Each of her series has four books with a mystery beginning in book one and concluding in book four. For that reason, I strongly encourage readers to read the books in order. For this series, those books are: Run to Ground, On the Chase, Survive the Night, and Through the Fire.

Kit and Wes are a great couple. I loved this book and was sorry to see the series end. I loved the fast pace and all the action and seeing all the other characters show up in this story and how it wrapped up. I highly recommend this book to anyone especially anyone who loves stories with dogs.

This is Book 4 in the Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit series. It can be read as a stand-alone without any problems understanding what’s going on. I haven’t read the first 3 and really enjoyed this one. Kit has just started with a new K9 unit and she’s finding it hard to connect with them. There’s a killer around and she knows who it is but can’t convince anybody because she’s the newcomer from the city.
Then she gets involved with Wesley, who is a fire spotter for the town. This is a story that flows from the start and keeps you interested in trying to catch the killer before it’s too late. The ending is not what you would expect but I think that is what makes it so good. I can’t say enough about this book, but I know you will enjoy the suspense and the slow romance that’s in here. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book that I received from Netgalley.

This was a great story with suspense ,twists and turns. I really enjoyed this story line. Wes and Kit’s story is very interesting and I love every minute.Their romance was sweet but there was definitely sparking tension between them. Kit was just what Wes needed.

I’ve been hearing about Katie Ruggle for sometime and it’s all been good. So, she’s been on my list of new-to-me authors to check out. I’m just not sure if this was the best one to start with mainly because it’s book 4 in a series and I always feel like I’m playing catch up when I do that.

Even so, it was an enjoyable read.

The heroine, Kit Jernigan is smart, savvy, loyal, and funny, not to mention, she has an awesome dog, Justice, her K-9 partner. She loves her job and wants to do a great job and fit in, to find a home. Unfortunately, her human partners on the force don’t exactly make that easy for her. Still, she didn’t give up; rather she resolved to win them over. I really liked this about her. Kit wasn’t whiney, she wasn’t bitchy, she was nice—something we need more of in this world. She also had great instincts, which is important not just for police work, but for life in general.

Wes March as the hero was a breath of fresh air. He was quirky—super smart (he makes the coolest gadgets), sweet, honest—just not a real people person. I love that he was there for Kit when she needed him, but he also stood back and let her do her job too.

I loved watching this romance between Wes and Kit slowly unfold. While the romance was a strong plotline in the book, it wasn’t the main focus and that was okay. It seemed more realistic and built naturally. The two characters really “got” each other, but there were still those sweet moments of uncertainty that were so fun to watch.

What I wasn’t too crazy about were the other police officers. I know it’s typical to razz the new person, but they went beyond that and were flat out jerks most of the time. They also came across as stupid, inept, and slightly corrupt. Given that I didn’t read books 1-3, I did have to guess as to their motives and I tried to give the characters and the author the benefit of the doubt. Although, based on other reviews, I think “dumbing down” the men was the author’s way to make Kit the hero of the story.

As to the rest of the book, it was fast paced with lots of action and kept you turning the pages. I would recommend not reading this book until you’ve read the first three in the series.

My Review: I have been a huge Katie Ruggle fan since I originally discovered her Search and Rescue Series, so of course I jumped at an opportunity to read the next book in the K9 series (and I believe this is the last book in this series). I instantly fell in love with Wes, something about those quiet, rough, lone mountain men gets me, and he is insanely smart to boot. I also like how this was a bit of a role reversal from all of Ruggle's previous books with Kit being the one in police service. I really enjoy how she wasn't an instant part of the crew, there was definitely a warm up period, as is natural all things considered. This book really revealed that it can at times be difficult to break into that small town circle, everyone knows everyone and they are often suspicious of newcomers, though they can also be extremely welcoming. I loved the twists this book took and how it turned what we all expected from previous books in the series and turned it on its head. This was definitely a great page turner and kept pulling you into the story.

My Rating: I really enjoyed this book and loved how there was a bit of a role reversal in it with Kit being a police officer instead of the guy being in that role. While I loved this book I am a little anxious to see what comes up next, there wasn't really much of a hint for a branch off series like there was in the Search and Rescue series branching into this series. Anyway, this is definitely a Four Paw book for me!

Kit is starting over, new location, new job, new home; the only thing coming with her from her previous life is her K-9, Justice. With a lot to prove to herself, and her new co-workers and Kit jumps right in. Quickly finding herself in over her head, Kit is rescued by her mysterious mountain man twice.

Wes never imagined rescuing a deputy from a firing squad, or falling in love with her. A computer savvy engineer, Wes has always been fine in his watch tower with his gadgets. Becoming part of the community and making friends was almost laughable. Unable to fight the pull any longer Wes breaks down and faces his fears to spend time with Kit.

Wes and Kit have a sweet-flirtatious relationship to start with. It was more of a slower building romance than previous ones that are almost combustible from the start. They are a couple that took their time and playfully bantered and flirted before letting the sparks ignite. Ms. Ruggle answered a question that I have had throughout the last two novels…interesting turn of events; something readers have been curious about, it’s finally answered, all laid out.The plot is a fast paced, action packed plot that really focuses on the couple and Kit’s K-9 Justice. The characters are well developed and help the plot flow nicely throughout this novel and in connection with previous novels. Through the Fire is a great addition to the Rocky Mountain K-9 Series, although it’s not my favorite, it’s still a great read!

Monroe, CO, may seem like a sleepy mountain town when Kit takes a new job with the police department, but her first day on the job is a surprise for both Kit and her K9 partner, Justice. Not only are the police station and two other businesses nothing but burned out skeletal remnants but before she can check in with her boss, she and her new partners are dealing with arson and a possible homicide. And then things really get interesting.

The advance copy I read of this book started out a bit slowly for me, but when things took off, they really took off! And don’t let the cover fool you. This book is all about the heroine, Kit, while she settles in to her new job and tries to track down a murderer. Then there’s the growing attraction between her and Wes, the solitary, quiet smoke spotter for the forestry service. I absolutely adored Wes, with his brilliant brain, inner nerd and social awkwardness. His first meeting with Kit is as cute as it gets, with him using geometry to help her back a trailer into the driveway, and I fell a little in love with both Wes and Kit from that scene alone. With a wonderful cast of secondary characters, of both the human and canine variety, this was a delightful, intriguing, heartwarming read.

This book stands apart from the rest of the series in a couple of ways. We begin with the new arrival to town but are not immersed into their background. Instead we are guided to the new K9 unit. With all of the problems this poor town has had in the recent months, Kit is sure to fit right in. She forms an unusual bond with the local hermit, and fire spotter, Wes. They will need to work together to end the threat against the town.

Great addition to the series. The story is full of family and community strength. Returning characters participate without taking over the story-line. It is hard to tell if this is the end of the series or if we will continue to watch the town be restored to its former glory.

A great book that has it all not only do you have a wonderful romance but there is also suspense and drama to keep the pages turning

Kit Jernigan as just come to Monroe as the new K9 officer she had to change jobs after turning in her corrupt partner at her last station and she thinks Monroe will be a nice quite change for her she couldn't be more wrong. Wesley March is a local fire spotter he rarely comes in to town because although he may be brilliant as far as electronics and maths is concerned but he doesn't deal well with other people Somehow though Kit and him jell and now he is coming to town more than he ever has before, yes he still struggles but Kit seems to have the ability to put his at ease. I love how storylines from previous books are wound throughout this story Overall I enjoyed this book and would recommend

This appears to be the last book in the Rocky Mountain K9 Unit series and it ends with a bang. Kit Jernigan is the new K9 officer and her Bloodhound partner is a scene stealer. He provides some needed laughs as the story progresses. Kit meets Wes on her first day and the two are a interesting match. A new woman has arrived at Jules and while Kit does not trust her no one is listening to her. That leads to danger and an answer to several questions that have been part of the mystery in the series. This is a fun story full of tension, danger, romance and some very nice comic moments. I loved Kit and Wes has become one of my favorite romance heroes.

I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.
