This is a well-written suspense thriller.

A great read that is extremely well written. The characters really make this book enjoyable, as the author took the time to truly ensure this was character driven.

Beachhead by Jeffrey Hess

Seeing the reviews that mentioned this author was reminiscent of John D. MacDonald had me immediately interested. Why? My father had many books I read in the past and one by MacDonald stuck with me for decades – The Girl the Gold Watch & Everything – and I could not pass up reading a book that might have an equal impact on my reading experience.

This book gave me a chance to read a book from the perspective of the male hero and a hero he is though he indeed has a few flaws. His strengths are love of family, standing up for what he believes in and doing the right thing…well…mostly the right thing. His backstory includes a rough childhood, a sister who was there for him, a loss as an adult that reshaped his life, decisions made in the moment (for the right reasons) that again changed the direction of his life. I liked him and could see how his life again changed through the book. I would LOVE to see a series based on Scotland Ross but even if there never is one…I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of reading this book! [Just saw there IS at least a second book so my wish has been ansered :)]

Thank you to NetGalley and Down & Out Books for the ARC – This is my honest review.
